If you don't have a PC with decent dedicated video card and don't want to upgrade than you can get Oculus Quest which is basicly computer integraded into VR headset. If you have a decent PC you can still want to get Quest but for VRChat you will be limited to what worlds you can visit and what avatars you can use and see. If you are sure you won't ever need full body tracking Rift S is a nice option for $400. If you think you may want to have full body tracking you either get HTC Vive for $400 - $450 (Im not sure what the price is) or Valve Index for $1000. The prices of these two differ a lot but with Index you are getting superior headset and controllers.

If it is gaming laptop with GTX 1050 or better in it than it can run VRChat although it may be bit laggy with 1050 but with igpu Index is a no go. You could have better performace with Windows Mixed Reality headsets with igpu but it won't be running very well anyway plus with only two cameras your range of motions will be quite limited

Its not that easy though, if its a static polygon your fine really, once its polygon being transformed... well.. Having moving parts (elbows for example) be extremely high poly can cause worse performance.

And modern programs and processors can handle millions at a time. But its a resource fight, why give that 0,5% extra away for polygons.

The most I use mirrors for is a reference for cuddles. Assists with phantom sense.
If I need to check expressions, I just use the camera then lock it. I prefer talking to people face to face, feels more genuine.

One of the main reasons mirrors become a popular thing is simply because they effectively boost you field of view of a group. Letting you see everyone at once.
The closest alternative is gathering in a circle.
They also give that extra bit of awareness that VR takes away from you, eg, last night someone started petting my head from behind. Didn't know until someone pointed it out. Mirrors resolve that.

So a couple days ago I came across bunch of people using war/soldier themed avatars with some fitting music playing for 15 mins or so. One of them even had a avatar of the you know-mustache guy from germany and had his icon on avatar. Idk if those people were using avatars you're not allowed to use? At least searching around made me lean towards that it might be so. Idk, they didn't really act like trying to harrass people and I found it more of a memey moment since they had so random emotes dances. I'm speaking cautiously just in case so I don't break any rules here.
