For its price I don’t think the vive is worth it anymore. Rift S is higher quality and cheaper

Vive has the lowest resolution and arguably the worst controllers, but a solid upgrade path that will allow you to upgrade to an index or pimax I the future.

Rift S is a perfect middle ground, cheaper with much clearer screens, better lenses, and controllers that are more comfortable and have some limited finger tracking for gestures

The index is the most expensive with even higher resolution and controllers that ha s full finger tracking. The FOV is also the highest

I like the new wmr update though. It now natively allows you to bring in any desktop app into VR games, and even little wmr VR apps like hollograms, you can activate now while in game

The Vive pro really should just replace the Vive and take over it's price point.

@obtuse garnet none of the headsets come with full body tracking. For the Vive or index, you can buy individual trackers which games like vrchat use as full body trackers, but that is $300 extra. The rift S can use full body systems if you mix the settups in steamvr, but that is expensive as well. Most of us don't have full body tracking, and the game just simulates our leg movements

MVA panels weren't really more expensive than IPS when I was shopping around before.

My 55" Sony TV uses an MVA panel and it really is so much closer to OLED because the blacks have much better contrast compared to normal panels. Colours look fantastic too.

You need a solid 600Mb/s+ low latency connection for VNC to be acceptable for low-speed gaming (e.g. Civ, The Sims, etc)

That said, Splashtop uses H264 encoding and that allows for remote gaming onto mobile devices with much lower latency, so that works too.

I was given this stuff by a crazy friend with an overly spend happy boss. My old RAM was 8gb of 1600hz, and the stuff he gave me was 16gb of 2400hz. That's a pretty nice upgrade that I never fully appreciated.

@upper chasm Personally, I recommend setting your safety to custom. Setting everyone to "Avatar, Voice, Shaders" only. Then just fully enabling people on a per-person basis when you think they're going to be OK. Makes pubs mostly usable.
