Hm I think it's Steam VR as a whole.. That's how I read it, that it's an unnecesarry layer on top of the Oculus SDK

Yeah I'm messing around with the supersampling also. It's a home built spec with 1060, 8 gigs of ram and a fast enough cpu. It runs all other applications super smooth so I'm only messing around with VRC (my favorite app ^^)

it might simply be a hardware issue although it runs other games on ultra (Witcher etc) without trouble. Maybe going to 16 gigs of ram could help VRC since it seems like a lot of the textures are huge

A material lays a texture onto a vertex group on a mesh. So really you just need your mats to be assigned to the proper vertex groups and your mats can have several textures on them depending on the shader properties.

You ONLY need a new material if you are changing the shader. In your case, you could get away with 2 materials. One for everything, and another material for the transparent parts.

If you want the eyes to be two different colors, turning them into separate materials is not a bad idea, but you still gotta atlas after that.

To merge them again.

Turning them into separate materials allows you to put them into different places on the UV map so you can actually have two different colors
