the colliders used for cloth are way more optimized and lag less than dynamic bones

It's a lazy fix, but outline is very frequently used to prevent the insides of surfaces rendering as transparent.

Kind of annoying to have the hood on one of my common avatars just look like a weird floating halo/hairband to all newcomers.

If it were a more serious issue, I'd probably do that. For slight errors on the undersides of hoods/skirts/sleeves/hair, I'll probably just deal with the imperfection rather than turn into a roblox.
