this rank system is currently far too difficult to get to the higher ranks. people have to have basically no life in order to by default have their full animations shown to the public, this is going to fuck with the creative side of the game because a lot of people like myself meet/met a lot of people through our work on avatars in friends+ worlds and what not. this is a good idea but its just not implemented correctly

the ranks do matter, not for show, but because if i go to a friends+ world filled with other animators, no one is going to see my animations unless they manually turn their settings off which most people arent going to do because they're so paranoid of being crashed or for optimization or they simply just dont understand it. it takes away the social interactions of seeing someone with a cool animation in a friends+ world or a public world and then walking up to them and appreciating each other's works since now simply to by default show any form of custom shader to people by default is to have almost no life at all

There is no official way of raising your rank besides playing the game. No official word has said that playtime, uploaded content, worlds visited, or anything has a major effect on your rank. Anyone telling you "well uploading x amount of worlds raises your rank" is making guesses at best.

I posted a workaround in the bug-reports group. Basically turning it on after logging into vrchat without it makes it work

Stencils are a property of the shader. Hence I believe they are removed unless you are able to set stencils on a standard shader
