I'm wondering why can't VRChat get a unity upgrade? I mean 5.6 has officially hit it's EOF which means any security bugs that are unity specific will be impossible to fix or upgrade from unless we are using a custom unity version at that point.

I feel like it would be extremely beneficial to upgrade to at least 2017.4 which is the current LTS build on Unity's site. Massive VR improvements, optimized more for VR then 5.6, and it lets us have just a better overall experience with a lot of things.

I don't see personally why there seems to be no effort into upgrading to the newest LTS version

I'm not a huge fan of how later Unity versions handle model imports, though. That's gonna take some time to get used to.

After importing the model, you also have to manually extract the textures and materials before you can modify them.

It would be great to have this feature completed and re-enabled. Enabling by toggling would be better than having to friend somebody as well, as long as Standard shaders on non-friends is default when the feature is enabled.```

I don't think switching shaders to standard is going to help frame rate very much anyway

standard shader isn't the most efficient option

I just think it's better to see some representation of the person rather than blocking all avatars. If they have stuff like huds that are messing up and it's really that interesting, being able to enable their avatar would be a good feature also which I mention in the request
