If your avatar is red and translucent, the servers are having issues, or the avatar is broken.
Steam accounts are guest accounts.
You can't upload stuff to them, and that will probably never change

Make sure you are not using a steam account because those can not be verified and continue playing the game until you get a notification or e-mail.

When I first started playing, I had my verification come very quickly, after just a 4 hour and an 8 hour session. First session was spent bouncing around over a dozen avatar maps, and adding one friend by the end of it. second session was spent traveling around with my brothers friend group, adding about 9 people and visiting various maps.

If your account is new, You just need to play vrchat for a while. Once the system gets a bit of a read on you, and think that you're safe to uploaded, you will get an email and tou can upload

so i tried out wearing the vive tracker but everytime when i load a new avatar, either the avatar is slanted or just stuck in a horizontal "V" position
i also fidgted with the device as well
Many Avatars are not FBT optimized and you need to recalibrate for each 

@blazing badger It's a good idea to do a calibration check with Y-Bot (default avatars list) to see if things work right, as that one is known to work properly.

If someone comes along and copies your avatar off you, reporting them usually just needs your output log and some other basic info.

This report system is extremely flawed, & with the number of people you'd have to report daily, its practically useless how it is, right now
An in-game report button would really help
for shader abuse, i usually just block anyone i suspected, if the shader disappeared immediately after i block someone, that might be a proof
The output log should show who is activating the shader anyway
does anyone know why the vrchat interface isn't tethered to the camera's point of view rather than world-based like it is now? Cuz as it is now its really like if you are forced to move, like during a fall, it just jitters a lot.
I would imagine if the menu was tied to your viewpoint then it would be super annoying to navigate it for vr users.

@lilac swan I think this is one of those typical things that should be configurable.. I for one highly dislike that when my avatar moves a lot I can't select an avatar cuz the menu doesn't respond due it jumping all over the place.. And yea I didn't mean tethered as it i'll rotate along with cam view.. I meant just tethered on coordinates.. so you move, the menu moves along with you. If you rotate, it wouldn't rotate with you
I'm pretty sure it's a bug that you even can move when your menu is open in desktop mode. That is not the case when in vr, you stay put no matter what (unless you physically move around)
If you get jerked around because you're in a moving chair, the menu does stay in place
It's basically spawned in world space and your own position is generally locked
If you open your menu while falling, you will continue falling
With your menu lagging behind you more and more, sometimes you can press respawn if you're quick and kind of lucky

I think you're talking about two different menus
The quick menu in your hand is very glitchy when you're falling or otherwise moving without using the control stick/touchpad
On desktop, it also stays where it is when you pressed escape
The full menu (Worlds, Avatar, Social) should freeze you and itself in place, but if you still get moved somehow, the menu doesn't move with you.
So if you're falling really quickly and stuck in a teleport loop, it might be impossible to press respawn.

That one stays in place and you can still move your physical body in VR
But the quick menu in your hand lags behind you a lot

If you open the full menu while falling you just freeze in place in the air. Can be useful.
But it's very difficult to click it when falling

If you can fall for that long, maybe you need to raise the respawn height

The terrain is pretty big, so it was difficult to place platforms accurately in Unity, and I missed by a few kilometers

Vive/Vive Pro for tracking quality and max playspace size, Pro for increased resolution. Downsides: Current controllers are a bit wank. The most expensive.
Oculus Rift for a good quality-price balance. Currently better controllers. Downsides: Tracking isn't quite as good as the Vive (damn close though), smaller max play space size, requires third camera for roomscale on par with Vive.
Windows Mixed Reality for low cost (when they go on sale, they go on sale.), good resolution, very easy setup (no external sensors), portability if your VR system is portable.
Downsides: Loses tracking easily, can't accurately track out of your field of view (does so via algorithmic estimation), most HMDs use LCD displays so poor contrast compared to OLED ones. Controllers feel cheap and flimsy.
Oculus Rift is my go-to because of the controllers
WMR is you get what you pay for, which is still pretty decent for the low price you can pick it up for
Vive is currently overpriced for my tastes, especially because the controllers aren't very good and they all break in the same way after X time
Whether you prefer touchpads or control sticks is preference

You're looking at the Samsung odyssey? I use WMR. It's decent for the price, and for simulators, I'd go with the Odyssey. But for VRChat, you're going to want those touch controllers. I'd recommend the rift if you're willing to spending that much
I know at least one of the vrc devs has a set.

@rough pulsar the vive having better tracking is a myth unless you really have big spaces which oculus is not rated for or only use 2 sensors.
You also forgott that the Rift comes with Audio and a good mix and has the better Lenses Compared to the non pro.
Every single person i know with a rift has lost tracking at some point, never heard that from a vive user
one of my lighthouse turned off while playing, and i didn't notice for an hour
i heard one works rather well too yeah
I have never had any issues with lost tracking
My friend's Vive lost tracking when it became too hot
Also forgott a very important thing
Vive's controllers have a rechargable battery that once its out... you have a problem

I just bought rechargeable batteries for my Touch controllers, I never have to stop playing to charge or anything
It's interesting how the Vive lighthouses have a spinning thing inside of them, at like 3600 rpm. Wooooosshh

They sound good but there are vast swathes of pages about people's Rift headphones giving out

L/R audio would constantly switch for no reason

Still not sure if it was my rift or my HDMI port
the only issue i had with it was a lose contact cus the screw losened
tied it back up and its perfect
Yeah, I had that issues too except it lost contact even when screwed in super tight
@vocal shard What I find most amazing about lighthouse is how their prototypes were literally laser units strapped onto stripped down HDDs.
I should re-test it with my new PC and hope I didn't break the fragile things

A deciding factor when choosing between Vive and Oculus: The controllers. The former you will hold "sticks", the later you will hold... your hands ? lol
people with much money couldn't care less about price differences 
that's the first I've ever heard of complaints about display brightness

I went Rift cause: 1. I'm a peasant 2. Controllers, with actual sticks, that fits in hands.

I kinda wanted a vive pro, but until I was able to try one I wasn't going to get one because eeehehehe.
I wouldn't switch to the Vive, that would be too expensive for me to justify
the Knuckles are actually not that much more promissing if you already have the touch
you'll have the battery problem again
and from what i have seen, it does barely provide much advantages over the touch

He means that the jump from Touch to Knuckles is small, which is true
Knuckes track all fingers, fully from open to closed, and is pressure sensitive for the grip.
touch also has basic hand sensing which is not to forgett
...
It's two or three extra fingers and the ability to squeeze the controller rather than the grip.

Yeah, they're two technologies that kinda need each other whenever it comes to large virtual spaces.
Gloves would be a dream IMO
imo a glove would probably beat both of them

third party things are a big issue with vr
they need to form a standart else its not gonna work
controllerless tracking + some vibration/buttons on the gloves themselves
With either the Vive wands or Touch controllers, you feel like you're actually holding a gun or a sword. That is decidedly not the case with gloves.

OpenVR and SteamVR is trying to solve that with their skeletal input API.
Since for input in VR, the standard is the human hand, so abstracting the controller out of the picture, so all the game gets is a hand skeleton is the way to deal with third party input devices.

The knuckles you don't even have to hold. Don't forget the hand strap.
