One thing to note, back when the devs said Playmaker would be a thing, before the population explosion, a majority of VRChat users were VR users. One thing about VR users is that they're either good at saving up money, or have a good amount of money. $30 to most of them is not a problem. Obviously a bit of a generalisation here, but you get the idea.
