@thorn latch As I'm not a Vive user I don't know if there are any "hacks" to do it, but people have put up feature requests on the canny to add that functionality. If it's something you want then you should go there and upvote it so the developers know it's important to a lot of people.

@snow bone It might be to do with the view position on the avatar? Best thing to do is find a world with a mirror, stand in front of it in a straight but relaxed pose, and tweak the height there.
Remember, looking down slightly pulls the avatar up so make sure you can see yourself fully while looking straight ahead.

@snow bone Also worth checking is to make sure SteamVR's floor calibration is correct. Easiest way is to put a controller on the floor and get right up close to it with the HMD on and flip it up a little and see how far off your virtual floor is from the real one.

Although you said sometimes SteamVR throws a glitched 3rd controller in, that will definitely fuck with the height settings since it thinks you're in a partial full body tracking mode, where a lot of what we're telling you works a bit differently.
