  1. Two types: Homemade and military grade.
  2. Homemade: Can be crafted with simple resources.
  3. Military grade: Can be crafted with more advanced resources or found at military bases. (I expect a military base to be harder to raid than crafting a homemade mortar.) It also has better range and targeting.
  4. Shells: Homemade: Can be crafted with simple resources. Military grade: Can be crafted with more advanced resources or found at military bases.
  5. Load, aim, fire: Loading will use a "doing stuff" meter, aiming will consist of moving and adjusting the mortar while looking at a map that shows where it will hit (map is more accurate with military grade, homemade will be slightly off) finally, you will be allowed to set the fuse time to accommodate for travel time, military grade has more options for fuse time. (Or you could simply choose between explode above target or explode on ground.)
  6. The shell will release shrapnel and light flammable stuff on fire, military grade will have bigger radius than homemade. Exploding above target will cause shrapnel to rain down.
  7. Homemade mortar pictured left (created by Ordnance Lab on YouTube) military grade mortar pictured right. (I did this because I want to make sure you know I'm talking about a small mortar.)
  8. If the game gets the "Civil War" mechanic I suggested, or a simplified version of it, you could get factories to mass produce military grade mortars and shells. This could work in some way even without the "Civil War" mechanic.
