Reading through the AMA, it seems the current plan is to have butler bots mend buildings etc. each morning; I wonder if this could be a system that the player could interact with incase they want their destruction to be a little more permanent.
Perhaps each town could have a butler-bot factory that could be interfered with in a similar way to how Matt envisions destroying a 'fud' factory might interfere with prices. As some thoughts on implementation (I'm no game dev so maybe this is too hard):
- Each town has a 'butler-bot academy (factory)', possibly with its important components in a 'dungeon' to protect it from accidental destruction.
- If the factory is destroyed, it takes the town's leader (eg.) a week to repair it, so destruction in that town remains for longer.
- If you overthrow the leader of a town (or by whatever machanism you like), you can choose to leave the butler bot factory in disrepair to make your destruction in that town permanent.
This would allow you to pull off multi-day heists, and I have no doubt some players are going to plan on leveling the continent, so this would give them a way to do so using in-game systems as opposed to mutators - if the emergent gameplay leads to a particular town really p***ing you off, I can imagine overthrowing said town and levelling it could be rather cathartic ^^
