The game takes place in a society (🤡🚬) supposedly in political turmoil, but we don't really see much of that at all besides minor flavour text like Ideological Clash being on Slavemaster specifically and background info like cops and economical strife.
The idea is to add a form of in-game fantasy politics along the lines of determining contraband (legal status of alcohol? translators? drugs? minifridges?), entities (are we, in fact, Cool with Cannibals™? are Zombies Welcome?) or even behaviours (is driving legal? can we eat in public spaces? do traffic lights exist? is there a police lockdown in this region?), possibly even extending beyond shrimple things (maybe the legality of drugs affects the presence of Drug Dealers in fancier bits of town, or removes them from being considered "scumbags," who do we call? the ghostbusters? police? firemen? is there a protected class?).
This, naturally, extends to the idea of campaigning for things, with certain groups voting for certain things by default until otherwise convinced (or just let RNGesus take the wheel) and political assassinations, among other kinds of tomfoolery (voter fraud? corruption? actually, how do we vote? what if you're just not able/allowed?). If we play the same world multiple times, maybe we can have our player character determine the new laws the world will operate by in future playthroughs, either through multigenerational campaigns or achieving presidency.
