Many people confuse #level-design channel with #graphics or #work-in-progress and %95 of the conversations end up someone redirecting people to correct channel.

It's not an active channel either, we don't have much online people that can provide help about specific things related with Unreal Engine's level editing tools.

Also most of the people confuse environment art with level design. See #969692597431980072.

What level design actually is?

Level design should be about the actual design of a level, whether that is something like "Does this shape of landscape help or hinder the flow of the game", "Does the lighting here help the player decide which way to go, or does it not do anything" that sort of thing. But questions like "Why do my textures look like this" or "My shadows look bad, how to fix" is clearly not level design.

But people regularly ask questions about materials, lighting and share #work-in-progress screenshots.

We had an user named CE that was keeping the channel alive by answering actual relevant questions about level design and redirecting people to correct channels when someone misuse the #level-design. But he recently left the server and currently the channel is pretty much dead.

There are still a few amount of relevant Q/A going on but I think we should separate the channels instead of letting people get confused and misuse the channel most of the time.

I offer archiving #level-design and having specific channels like:
#landscapes (or #landmass)
#waterplugin
#worldpartitioning
etc

Since #graphics and #lumen is two different things, #level-design and the rest can be different things imo Especially since UE5 introduces various of features for them.

Even if this is not possible, I still support #level-design should be archived or at least renamed into something that does not involve "design". Maybe it can "level-editing" etc.

Biggest motivation here is preventing the channel to be misused mistakenly and guide people by separating channels or naming them properly.
Of course, decision is up to mods. In the end, this doesn't affect anyones daily life since deciding between #graphics and #level-design is a matter of reading the channel description but having changes could improve the consistency and Q/A flow a little bit.

I'm putting my vote on #level-design archival as well, not to mention more and more people getting salty about redirecting graphics related questions to #graphics.
