#Suggestion for Voice Section

voice channels are usually low down on the channel list in discord servers, not to mention voice chat is the first topic in the FAQ
Our voice chat is very active and has been for years. I don't think anyone who cares is missing it.
Some new people missing it. i also found voice channel after few months and active regularly.
because we don't see it until we scroll down to the END.
yep. but many people when they join in they don't read FAQ & everything.
I mean if they don't spend the few seconds reading the channels customization that pops up when they join, they probably aren't missing vc all that much :P
most people 99% come in hurry to solve their unreal issues. I came just like that. and I also never focused on FAQ & other things and very few people read that.
it's subconscious human behavior. Just like we accept software agreements without reading it all
and now I'm everyday in voice chat I came to take help almost 5 years back and now helping others. & I think it will be more better place when more people in voice chat since there's so much thought exchange happens related gamedev.
I can understand where you're coming from but am still against it for a number of reasons. Firstly, voice channels always tend to be more inactive than other channels. Voice is never going to be more active than say, ue5-general. Putting voice channels at the top is favouring them over more active channels. Secondly, most servers on this platform have voice channels at the bottom. It's pretty expected behaviour if you're in more than a couple of servers. Thirdly, even if people aren't customising their channels and are blind to the existence of voice chat, the people who would join a server with the intention of joining a VC would probably just ask. Given this server has one of the most active VC's I have seen from any server I'm in, I don't think it's going unnoticed, most users just don't care. As you say, they come in to just hurry and post their issue.
I'm 100% sure it will Increase engagement if we put on top so everyone will get to know there's voice channel and it's active.
that's what UX is. if we show something interactive to user at first place it increases chances of interaction with it.
i don't have anything to say, It's just Suggestion not MUST have thing.
UX is figuring out a way to put everything on top
not really but in this case it will increase engagement in voice channels for sure.
i personally found voice channel after months and heard same thing from few people.
that's when this suggestion came in my mind. i already know where is voice chat and I'm active everyday.
so it's definitely not for my personal interest. i just thought from new peoples perspective and shared suggestions.
AI!
UX designer here (well was before getting promoted) and that's not the whole picture here. User experience is more than just where something is, it's why it's where it is. The explanation of most servers have it at the bottom is UX because users will instinctively understand to see VCs they gotta scroll. Is that true for everyone? No but we also don't design to the lowest common denominator. Fwiw discord's dev server puts their VC at the bottom too (tho they only have a stage).
TLDR: there's no perfect solution but putting it at the bottom is standard and good UX keeps standards in mind
When I first joined, it took me almost 4 months to realize there was a VC. New people on Discord don’t automatically have the instinct you’re talking about.
and I’ve been here for 5 years, why this suggestion came in after 5 years It came up because multiple people said they weren’t even aware VC existed, they thought there's just text channels.
So this suggestion is coming from new people's feedback/experience. i'm just passing it.
People who use Discord all the time don’t have this issue, but new users clearly do. And I don’t need to be a UX expert to know that placing something more prominently (at the top) increases visibility and engagement.
Sure it might increase visibility but I'd argue that's a loaded assumption because you are assuming they want more people in the VC I think the main focus of the discord for new people is just getting them to the right channels which isn't generally the VC for most folks joining. The VCs are helpful for showing what you have questions about but they are also a place to chill making it more prominent will lead to more folks just jumping in there asking their question and then leaving. If the goal is longer term more meaningful engagement that goes directly against that goal 🤷♂️ at the end of the day it's a server made to be an unofficial resource to help devs the general focus has always been afaik on providing a space for devs to chill.
It's also a feature used by a very small portion of the user base. Why should it get priority?
RIGHT that's the intention of suggestion to make that very small portion big.
But it won't.
It'll make a very small portion slightly bigger, maybe, but it'll still be vastly smaller than the non voice users.
If you want to use voice then you'll look for voice channels.
If you don't know voice channels exist at all... Well, that's discord's fault.
Personally, I'm never going to use them here and I find their very existence on the channel list annoying. You can't fully remove them.
Why I feel this Server is Best?
Reason: because of VC not text. I got mentorship from Industry Experts in my initial phase. i feel same mentorship can help more people.
that's the goal of Suggestion & this DIscord Server aswel.
Another reason: VC is more engaging than text channels atleast my experience.
I rearly get responce in text(but still its important). but in VC i get responce 100% times.
It's a Suggestion & Feeback from new people. NOT ARGUMENT.
Glad you've gotten the help you needed in the voice channels! They are very cool, for sure. Just not for everyone.
