Oh and for those who haven't explored the app & its settings, on Linux I would HIGHLY recommend you enable this button. This button keeps any d/ls from downloading any windows, mac, ios, tvos, visionos, etc -- binary files. Which means a download of a plugins might be less than a minute vs 10 minutes. These files are 100% useless on Linux and in most cases waste 10 to 100 times as much space in an asset as anything else.

Please note it will also clear out these files in your already downloaded vault items the next time it does a vault scan if you click this, which is why it defaults to unchecked because if you are doing team work and you are a cross platform vendor -- you might want to keep them if one of your vault directories is pointing at a shared drive that other platforms access... ๐Ÿ˜‰

amazing work man! i'll upgrade soon! i use your .deb file.

#

btw, one question/request. is it possible to download games too? or is that handled through a different api?

#

(games from the epic store i mean)

LOL, it could -- in fact look at the tab names (the right most one). The issue has been I didn't want to be supporting people on the game side of things. More work, and as it is I have a lot of stuff I want to add. So that tab is hidden and disabled currently. But the last time I activated it, it showed me my entire epic library as the api's are basically the same. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I figured most people probably used something like Heroic launcher for games on Linux which has a few developers, seems overkill to try and deal with it...

oh i see. i haven't seen that tab.
it's ok, when i asked it the words "scope creep" came to mind.

Yep, that tab is hidden along with the others up their that you haven't seen. Some of them will make it when I finish the primary tabs and have time. Games, was more a how easy can I do it -- but it is scope creep for where I want to go with AMS.

tbh i rarely play games, and i found i could download them from my vm. but through your soft it would be nicer. but it's not a huge thing, so if it adds to your work, i'd say skip it. the people making games, and playing games tend to be a bit of a different audience. there's overlap but they're different.

#

all good, don't worry about it then. i do love your new features with the improved downloads.

If you want to d/l epic games, get the Heroic launcher, it should work really well and handles several sites and is built for linux and gamers..

#

just so you know, i don't use heroic, i use proton, i have steam installed and add them there. so all i need is just to dump the game into a folder.

#

thanks, i really don't want to install something extra. i rather keep using my vm.

Heroic can use proton, in fact I though it was using that uvm stuff now which allows starting games EASILY in proton from gog, epic, and other sites.. ๐Ÿ˜„

#

thanks, yes i know. by proton i meant "i use it through the steam client, so i don't need a manager for wine envs and stuff like that".

#

though yes, heroic seems to cover most of the game stuff, and seems mature. so if i put myself in your shoes, allowing to download games would be a low priority.

#

sorry i use steam and proton as the same thing sometimes.

lean crown
#

Yep, I love Steam because of proton -- I rarely purchase games from anywhere else except Gog for the much older classics (But most of thise of at least the Dos era are on my site https://gamers.center so I don't have to worry about installing and can just play when I want on either my desktop or vr headset. ๐Ÿ™‚ .

yeah for me it's more of a resource management issue. by resource i mean my time. and steam works pretty well and has done a ton for linux. so it's my way of supporting.

#

btw, beneath a steel sky is amazing, iirc you can install it from official servers in ubuntu.

The funny thing is I've been collecting FREE games from the Epic store but I can't say I've ever played a single one. Steam is just so dang "simple". Click play... Done. ๐Ÿ˜„

#

yeah, gaben was right. it's a service issue. they got that pretty well i think. and it's quite stable. and i'm confident steam would be a bit more tested than heroic atm.

#

gotta go to eat, i've drifted your post enough. great work man. sorry i'm looking for a job so my generosity is impaired, otherwise i'll donate a bit. but keep it up. ill be recommending your software. thanks for the hard work.

but yean, steam is the most "works out the box" experience, though proton-ge with umu heroic has a very near experience of "it just works"
