What sort of new mechanics should we be on the look for?

For starters, nobody so far created a cool way to traverse trees and natural shapes. Parkour is mostly created for cubic shapes and urban environment.

I mean for instance such as spider crawls or other novel parkour techniques you see in Ninja Warrior (the show) or Ghostrunner?

Those are all custom setup and repetitive setups, most times hacked.
I've personally worked on 2 assassins creed titles, and my colleagues on the project worked on AC as well next to Horizon Series. Their systems are flawed even though the amount of money and years they've spent developing that parkour is insane.
We are trying to do something different with 1000x less money and with just a few people.
Our ultimate goal is to have a fully procedural forest and tree shapes that work well with parkour in any given situation.

Like when falling, does weather effect your movement, etc.

We are not yet that far into design, still preproduction 🙂 but in the future, weather influence to gameplay is a plan to test out
