Hey all! Just finished up this study today. I've really been loving the lighting tools UE5 offers. Hope you enjoy 🙂

This is the second piece made for my studies on Ansel Adams. I truly learned so much about depth and contrast with this piece. Where previously I may have tried to adjust those elements with lighting or post-processing alone, in this scene I dove into utilizing material shaders to initially create the depth in the scene through color and contras...

I've always been an admirer of Ansel Adams.

Sounds like you're working backwards, "painting" the zone value directly with the textures, is that right? Interesting approach.

This looks really nice, the pop of the tree bark is what gives it that Adams feel. 🤠

Thank you! Yes, in terms of the zone value, in my previous Adams study I didnt really mess with the textures too much and instead kept trying to adjust lighting and the post processing on the camera. That worked to a degree, but I feel as though I was missing the lessons from Adams' work and what he was teaching with his zone system and how he focused his exposure when developing film. With this latest study, I found that by mostly adjusting the brightness of the texture and compensating that brightness slightly with the saturation of the texture, I was better able to achieve the contrast and depth of the image; particularly with the midground trees.

Its been a really great lesson and I love doing these studies. I've got one more I'm working on but, it's still in blockout. Thank you for the feedback! I appreciate it! 🙂
