Starting to see a lot of questions about interchange. And as it becomes more prevalent and supporting most formats from 5.5 onwards in some state. It would be good to have an area to discuss it and all it's features. Datasmith channel doesn't really cover it and Editor Scripting is too broad for it to be relevant for people to gravitate towards.

Rename #datasmith and #datasmith-Interchange.

Hm Interchange is kinda its own thing though, right? Datasmith isn't a requirement, so merging that seems strange.
I did get some decomentation about it a while ago, not sure if Epic made that public by now.
We will have to monitor demand on this a bit more. For now you'd need to fall back to either general channels or something like #cpp if you want to write code for it.

It's released in the last few versions and it's getting more and more format support.
Datasmith is integrated into it in experimental stage but will be full featured soon.
I dont think #cpp is relevant for it since interchange is mostly looking to be used with stacks written in Blueprint. But #blueprint is really generic so the chances of finding help or like minded posts. I understand the predicament though since it's an emerging feature set

Pretty sure we wouldn't end up calling it interchange, just cause of how generic that name is.

If we had it as a more general Import / Export channel could we structure it like a forum / threads with tags for each type of import? I understand thats a fair amount of work for the team but would be nice to have it quite organised in order to search through for specifics. Could have a general discussion post at top of it for more "off topic" type impot export chit chat

could maybe have generic tags but try to encourage [import type] at the end of all posts to help filtering / searching? Maybe this is turning out too complicated

Typically we only reserve new channels for topics of discussion that are being had in other channels starting to overburden those channels.
In other words, unless its a popular topic of conversation for a broader channel, its not worth it to move out into its own.

No problem.
I just didn’t see anywhere to start having interchange discussions (I am a pipeline developer using interchange and epic seem to be pushing it as the main framework going forward so thought it logical to have a channel here for a new important feature) and datasmith channel didn’t look like the best area.
I’ll stick to UDN and the unreal forums for now then

Import/Export like proposed by Ben or content pipeline could be used, but those are transversal to many existing channels so I am not sure that is aligned with policies that are used here.
ATM I just search discord for Interchange keywords.
