#Channel for university students

Why?
to ask game design univarsity related stuff and get help
So why not just a game design channel, why university specific?
It was my first thought, I'm open for sugestions
Just in general, could you please write out why that channel is needed (vs using existing channels), what would be discussed in that channel and, most importantly, what makes you believe that the channel would have enough bandwidth to justify its existence.
We get a lot of channel requests, and we can't really start adding them just because someone asks for it. It needs more proof and arguments. We don't want to keep adding channels that only have 2 people discuss things every 5 weeks.
I actually think this is a great idea and it would probably slowly become quite popular
Also it could be used as a place for veterans to scout new talent as well as help newcomers or eager learners
Isn't that just what #ue5-general is?
lol true but I think having that channel would do a lot of good in separation and inclusion at the same time. People feel more inclined to interact when they feel they are on an equal level
So ue5 general is for the idiots and the university one is for the educated elite?
A separate channel for university students is not a good idea. I say this as one.
There is nothing stopping university students discussing their issues and problems, as they already do. All this manages to do is separate and lessen everyone else's equally important problems.
lol such a strange level of distain for such a simple and decent idea
You couldn’t have interpreted what I said more inaccurately
Lol
Also it could be used as a place for veterans to scout new talent as well as help newcomers or eager learners
Thing is, that's not what a channel for University Students should be for anyway.
You should always see everyone on the server as veterans, eager learners and newcomers, no matter what channel.
So a channel for group XYZ would only really benefit them grouping up.
And we kinda want to make sure that people are using the channels based on the problem they have.
So I'm on CuppaTea's side that this only splits the members into groups.
Yes it would be for… university students. I agree with everyone’s main points. But there is literally nothing wrong with the idea and I think they are a unique enough group to have their own channel. But I’m just sharing my opinion. Have no stake in the fight
If they want their own space for university students, they can totally create their own server fwiw.
The hangout channels were only added to make sure the offtopic in #cpp etc. gets a bit less.
Otherwise, the channels are mainly about the topic of the engine they cover
University Students are by far not the only group of peeps that would have/need a channel then
Agree
And that's simply not what this Server is for. Peeps should come here, choose a channel that fits their question, ask it, and get it answered by other users that choose a channel that fits their knowledge.
Doesn't matter if Student, University Student, Beginners, Intermediate, Lead, Senior, etc.
So yes, the idea might be "okay", but the reason this will most likely not go through is that the idea for this server is in fact not great.
Love that tbh. But yea it does point to maybe the brunt of the conversation/ debate. Which is less about the channel and more of its intent.
Cause I do agree that it’s intent is to organize rather than educate
But
I see much value in that organizing
That's fair, yet the Server has tried to not organize for a while now.
That's also why we don't have any special roles and crap like that (aside from UE vs Mods)
It just divides the server for most likely no gain
Yea I can respect the server culture on this one. Does make me feel like there’s room for someone to create such a thing now
Everyone is totally free to create a UE Server that has Roles for every single thing one can imagine, with some bot that plugs them onto new users, with channels for just those peeps, etc.
To help each other with homeworks and other stuff.
You can do that in the existing channels already. Assisting in questions about homework is not excluded from them.
