Question
Can we have specific voice channels for specific subjects?

What this solves

  • It would help set expectations for the people asking questions and the people trying to help them.
  • It would eliminate a lot of "Hey can anyone help me with XYZ" when there's no one experienced in that subject in the channel.

Implementation suggestions

  • General Channel for general questions
  • Programming Channel
  • Art Channel
  • Animation Channel
  • Keep slackers channel for off topic things

While I'm not opposed necessarily I think that's kinda how we have things named just with less obvious names and it wouldn't change much people tend to congregate in one channel and ask questions to anyone listening

We already tried this for two years and no one used them that way, so the current setup was introduced in late 2023.

Bingo, yea we did this for years. Activity was still the same as it is now. Wherever people are is where people gather. Activity breeds activity. So if people were in Artist Alley, everyone piled into Artist Alley, regardless of topic of conversation, questions or expertise. It just lead to new people sitting in a channel that nobody was in because it wasn't the active channel for the day, and they would walk away thinking "oh I guess only artists join the VC" or "only programmers join the VC" etc etc. The more obscure and generalized names have resolved this issue.

Though, have seen a few newbies who don't get the unreal related puns in the names, and have found them hiding away in Begin Playground because they thought that's where people who are beginning should be. So will likely address that in the near future
