#Can we have a forum channel for questions?
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
This feedback channel is a forum, but it didn't help you find out that this has been asked before and was rejected several times.
The reason is simple, people don't look at past questions and just start another thread. The result is the same, the question gets buried.
If you like forums, just use the official forums; but most of the people here prefer chat rooms.
I saw it, I saw Robbies response. It's a repost to show that people want it.
I would have mentioned that if it were me
but there have been more times this has been requested than just that one
anyway long story short, I doubt you'll get any where with this because the official forums exist...
this is a Discord server, if you like forums better just go use the forum instead of trying to change a chat room into something else
Discords real-time chat nature puts traditional long form Q&A at a disadvantage on this platform.
As has been suggested you can use the official forums for keeping track of specific questions and answers.
This platform is more suited to immediate questions receiving immediate answers and is unlikely to change.
Combining chatting with a forum style is what discord forums seem to do and is a growing preference nowadays. We should be willing to adapt to the growing preferences of the community and if this is regularly requested then presumably that's true.
In either case a forum style like this chat condenses the last 50, 100? messages into a single view without having to scroll. It's definitely more efficient. I can see what's being discussed and I can better filter what I'm interested in by glancing at the title.
Has this server even tried implementing and seeing if people like it? The attitude is almost like implementing would destroy the server. When really it's a simple change.
A forum style channel increases the likelihood of questions being seen and conversely increases the chances of questions being answered.
It's just about increasing the effectiveness of the server. I don't know how anyone can believe otherwise.
Unfortunately it is not regularly requested. Its just a few people here and there that want it.
This server has over 100k users
If it was that much in demand, we would see more requests.
We do not believe that forums within the Server for Q&A is a better approach.
This is has been discussed several times and tried in a few channels.
The regular users here prefer chat and every once and a while a new user who feels like they aren't getting answered enough starts this discussion.
The thing is that the same questions being ignored in chat would still be ignored in a forum setting usually.
At the end of the day, you cant force anyone to answer your questions. This is a community server, everyone is here voluntarily. They answer what questions they can and want to answer.
A forum doesnt change that.
Which means you will always have questions that get buried.
I think I made compelling arguments.
I'm not claiming it fixes all the issues. I'm saying it's better
for what I thought the purpose of this server was
anyway
We have tried it before, and our conclusion is the opposite to your assertion.
Hence why we do not have it.
Okay
The main reason it failed is because it basically kills organic discussion. Which is the primary driver behind engagement on a platform like this.
