#can we keep project launches to games only

#game-launches
yeah it would be nice to have them separate as I like to look at others games and such but I'm not interested in plugins
if it was enforced the game tag could serve this purpose but many plugins use this tag
Yeah If the 'filter tags' were enforced, that'd solve the issue too.
Or perhaps a better differentiator on 'game'. I could see a lot of people thinking oh my game related tool should have the game tag.
Perhaps some tags like 'itch' or 'steam' or something to indicate its been released there? That'd be clear its not a 'game related plugin'
Is there merit in having a place for market place asset launches in the first place? Personally I'd be looking at new releases on the marketplace itself for that
putting this into the "under consideration" status
Maybe just split "made with Unreal" and "made for Unreal", because as the tags suggest, not everyone uses Unreal to make games.
That will just confuse a lot of people who don't speak English as a primary language
I'd suggest a tag for plugins or something simple and just make sure people follow it you'd think tools and assets for plugins but people can be dense
There is already a Tools & Assets tag.
agreed but no one seems to be using the tags correctly so somethings gotta change
agreed, I go there every now and then and I see 1000 plug-ins and assets but like 1 max game
it's annoying
I just looked at project launches now and tons of non-games are tagged as games
Of the first 5 entries, only 1 is a game when filtering by game
There's a pretty big difference between "things made for developers" and "things made for consumers" so my 2 cents would be to allow anything in the latter category
cleaned it up a bit
ping me directly whenever it gets messy again and I'll look into it
or DM me
It's bad again there are many projects tagged as "game" just because they are a plugin for game dev which I think kind of defeats the purpose of the tag. I think there should be a separate channel for #game-launches so that it's much more clear that you can post your new cool game there. That way people won't have to bother clicking on the filters (which they probably don't do in the first place) plus those who have actually put in all the time and effort to finally launch a game would have their game displayed near the top of the list for a longer period of time since the frequency of new games is much less than the frequency of new plugins or assets.
Hmm I guess you have people who genuinely get it wrong, people who do it on purpose to increase views, and people who do it because similar projects are doing it
I'm +1 on separate channel
Thing is this isn't really the place to even advertise your game. Majority of people here won't even look or play it. Plugins and stuff are far more valuable. Splitting channels would be kind of pointless.
I can kind of agree with that one. I'd probably appreciate the inverse. I'm not here to look for games, it's not even that place. Devs aren't the target market.
Now actually good tooling on the other hand that I might benefit from? Now that's interesting.
I do like game stuff in #1054845120236757103. That is if they're actually consistent devlog updates sort of thing. But that's again just to see someone's thought process in building the game and tools, not because of interest in the game necessarily.
It'd be nice to see what games are being released by fellow server members imo
I agree, that's all I really want from that channel
I think they should be two completely different things, vehemently enforced ๐
When you boil it down like that, the current system doesn't achieve it
Tbf it usually works I just ping mods if I see anything labeled wrong
Hmm I mean first 3 "games" right now only 1 is a game
I'm probably in the minority, but I've bought a game that was advertised here on steam ๐
report them the mods are pretty quick to correct it
I still want to see what games other people make since this is a community for unreal.
I thought โoh neat a channel where I can see what games other UE devs have publishedโ and instead I just see plugins I dont care about.
There are a lot of non games listed as games atm
cleaned up and striked offenders
Is it clear that "Games" are actually games and not "for games"?
like the tag should be "Is A Game"? instead of "Game"?
I don't know. But I'd definitely tag my asset as "Game" if I'd made something for a game.
The idea is you use as many tags as possible that fit, right? To get in more filters?
I think it's a pretty easy mistake to make.
"Actual Game" ๐
I agree with Daekesh FWIW
Maybe "Playable"?
Game (not asset) ? ๐
Playable Game (Not Asset)
either way it's not something I can change, only admins can
but we shall discuss it
๐
I think "Playable Game" is closer than what we have
It would be nice if a bot could prompt the user to confirm its an actual game with a warning that if you incorrectly label it you get a strike
But thats easy for me to say when I'm not the one who has to code it
I have some ideas for addressing this, but I want to do so in a way that doesn't leave out people who are not game developers since Unreal is used across many industries now. It would be great to see what everyone is shipping, not just games. However, I don't want to add half a dozen promo channels for every industry and niche.
Regardless, it seems clear we should consider adding a dedicate channel for promoting tools and assets.
Perhaps we can solve this by simply removing the Tools & Assets tag and creating a dedicated channel for that.
I'm onboard with that. I think you'll still have some people putting it in project launches ๐ But there is no 100% solution
