I don't really have a specific request here, but it seems like newcomers are not reading the rules, or they're skimming them or simply don't care. Too many times I get DM'd by people who take any minimal interaction as an invitation to add you. I have DM's turned off but there always seems to be a mutual server I've forgotten to disable it for or something that lets them do it anyway.
#Rule 7 keeps being ignored

The fact you can't block friend requests from a server too ๐ฆ
Just tell them what your hourly rate is for direct DM support. That usually works for most of them and if anyone is still persistent enough and willing to pay for help then congrats you've now got a client!
Hah not a bad idea
Just tell them your rates are something crazy like one of those pay per minute phone numbers in the 90s
"in the 90s" they still exist ๐
They used to be more than adult stuff.... remember things like Nintendo's Tip Hotline?
Yeah. Me and my friends once rang up a helpline for Gabriel Knight 2: The Beast Within
wow I've never heard of somebody actually calling
Turns out it was a fucking QTE - in the 90s!
Had the push the damn wolf into the furnace.
(Battletoads was practically QTE)
You are very welcome to report the user to a Moderator, including screenshots as proof of course.
Unsolicited DMs lead to strikes too.
Should I send you an unsolicted DM with the screenshots?
To be fair, he did just solicit them lol
I know, it was a joke, but I can't actually DM him ๐
I was DMing him in the past, think it happened when the server changed, maybe some settings were changed, or just a coincidence
There's always the mod tag if you need attention!
Well, on that note, here is a specific suggestion then
A channel that anyone can post in but only mods can view
For reporting stuff like this that you don't need a response to
Nobody would even know it existed ๐
I'd rather not tag them to report another user in a public space, that's all
Right click -> report on a random message and explain teh situation. Or on your own message.
Maybe Discord has a better way of handling that
Hmm not really seeing anywhere to write a message or add attachments
Apps -> report message
You can ask to talk to a moderator and send them one when they respond.
Or create a group with a random friend and then remove from the group. You can now paste screenshots to yourself and copy the link. That works on WhatsApp. Not sure on Discord.
I think it might work
Its a small screenshot from a server I use to upload my custom emoji to lol, if that works then its ideal
No need to bother a friend ๐
Also I reported myself instead of a random user ๐
Surprised it lets you do that, maybe this is why ;D
Strange. I didn't change anything. Others are writing me just fine
I've heard if you have DMS disabled, then for some reason it also means you can't DM others
I don't see how striking these people is going to solve the problem, what do you think is the solution that we can help solve this problem for you?
It probably won't solve it
Having some form of modmail would be beneficial though, so it can be reported and they can be reminded that there are rules to read
This might also not always be a black and white situation. Not everything is instantly an unsolicted DM that is strike or even report worthy. If there was communication in a channel before and the DM made sense due to a continued conversation with between the users, it isn't directly something bad.
Everyone can always choose to ignore a single simple DM or tell the user to continue on the server.
I do the same. The DM situations that are really annoying are when one gets contact via DM without any prior interaction.
And those are mostly send on mass to multiple users and what not.
E.g. if I would be talking with any of you in #multiplayer and one of you decide to ask me something in a DM, due to it being something not releveant to the #multiplayer channel or to a public audience, then that's totally fine.
Would be really ridiculous if one would get a report or strike for that. DMs are exactly for that and if one of you doesn't want to receive DMs on their account, you'll have to block them.
I, for that very reason, have a company account (which one can easily swap to with Discord), so that this account here is only for actual friends (in terms of friend requests).
It is clear though that DMs without any prior interactions, followed by a friend invite, violates rule #7 in most cases.
But anything beyond that is a case by case situation and I would very much like people to not be so quickly annoyed and pissed at stuff.
I sit at the top of the server list with the other mods (unless Nick or Matt are online) and I help a lot in the most used channels, yet I barely receive any DMs. And if I do, I tell the users to please continue using the Server instead of DMing me, and that's it. It never hurt me to do that and I will also not strike for that unless someone repeats this over and over again, even after telling them to stop, or they contact a lot of people.
I feel the same for the most part. I only report the ones where there isn't sufficient prior interaction. Continuing a conversation is understandable but often there wasn't one.
And if I report it's generally because I think the criteria that led them to DM me probably means they are DMing others too
Admittedly it annoys me when they want to use my time to get feedback and support privately instead of posting on the server, it feels very one sided and against the spirit of community
๐ฏ I had somebody DM me earlier after talking in #cpp but I just told them not to and responded to their DM question in the channel
no strike needed unless they make it an issue
Is there a way of reporting people for unsolicited DM's so that you guys could automate keeping track of how often someone sends unsolicited DMs? I do not know what the report dialogue looks like and I'd rather not try to find out and falsely report someone :p
Try to report yourself :P
:o I didn't know that was possible. It seems the only way y'all would be able to detect if someone is sending a lot of unsolicited DMs is if y'all manually kept track of how many times a report for that person is mentioning unsolicited DMs.
Yeh but the issue with the DMs is that you have to track down a message they made on the server so that you can use the report tool on them
(unless this is not the only way to launch the report tool, but it's the only way I know)
It would be nice if we had a way to report without having to have a message to click on, and if we already do please tell me what it is ๐
Had one recently where I had to just tag mods in lounge since I had no way to report because they had no messages on this server but this was the only server shared with the user DMing me unsolicited
Roy promptly DM'd me asking why I just reported myself after I did that ๐คฃ
I added the discord link to an image but it might not have showed up properly
