I was sick of hand placing decals so I made Decal Brush via scriptable tools blueprints. It's really nice to finally have access the viewport/mouse without runtime or playing needed.
I put lots of features in like spray, erase, pick materials, ignore actors, make lines, randomization, mouse drag and drop, auto naming and grouping. It's now a lot easier to place them, no more pesky nudge.. nudge... rotate. It's part of a free update for Decal Designer.

Under the hood I'm line tracing to find good positions/orientation for the decal. And sampling any other things I need like extracting material info. There's a handy counter down the bottom for decals spawned in the session... in case you get carried away...
