There is often a need to receive feedback from someone for a thing that you did. What better way to receive this feedback from everyone else who uses the engine?

For example, a HUD that you think needs improvement but not sure where. Or a level where the lighting is off but you can't exactly figure out what is wrong.

We have #1054845120236757103, yeah, but that is more of a show-off thing, right? That is what prompted me to make this post, hope you see what I mean.

That’s probably not possible as everyone could be busy and therefore you’re not guaranteed a quickly reply

#

work in progress is indeed the feedback place

Honestly, this happens all the time in voice chat, i'd recommend checking it out sometime, be kind, be respectful of other's getting help or feedback and you'll be suprised how quickly you can find support in the voice chat ^_^

i mean, i'm just informing you of one of the most powerful resources on the server ^_^ you can choose if you want to use it or not lol 😛

#

VC is that important?

#

like

#

I didn't think a lot of people used it

unreal holly
#

i always see vc channels fairly active

#

wasn't it you @boreal nimbus that had the actual stats on their usage?

shell blade
#

Is this not something you could also use general for? Like general discussion and questions ?

unreal holly
#

it falls under the self promo thing iirc

shell blade
#

Fair enough, I feel like I see images from time to time of someone asking for advice on something but I’m sure it’s just the occasional one off and no one bothers to re guide them else where, probably better to not recommend it though 😅

I just thought having a channel for immediate and short discussion will be good, like here's a picture of a HUD. Is it good? No? How can I improve it? [Feedback] Thank you!

#

Doing the same in the existing #1054845120236757103 would mean creating a post for a one-off discussion which will clutter the channel, hurting those who use it as a way to show-off.

#

I guess what I am saying is that there are 2 kinds of WIPs, one for showing off (late WIP) and the other for feedback (early WIP), if that makes sense.

#1054845177509974107 and #1054845218723209226 are for showing off #1054845120236757103 is for feedback that's how they've always been used if you need quicker feedback the VC is used very frequently and there is usually someone willing to take a look and give some great feedback. A seperate channel for feedback wouldn't make sense to me as we have so many other places for feedback but that's just my 2 cents

Wow

I still think WIP shouldn't be a forum channel.

agreed

Because "give me feedback" can be a thin veil for "buy my stuff".

unreal holly
#

to clarify that point, it's true. a lot of devs use "feedback" as lazy marketing.
like for example "want feedback on my new game cover art", where one is clearly the correct choice, and the other 3 are mind bogglingly, intentionally awful, and it's just done to get the game out there.
you also quite commonly see it in the form of obviously finished, stunning environments.

idts using #ue5-general would be a good idea, it already has a ton of traffic that shouldn't be disturbed imo

#

#lounge is a good idea but that isn't the purpose of it, right?

hazy plume
unreal holly
#

Absolutely not, which is why we already have a channel for feedback

hazy plume
#

we do? where?

unreal holly
hazy plume

sooo that is it?

jovial forum

You really like going in circles huh

#

I agree that #1054845120236757103 isn't ideal for feedback
But any other channel will end up the same way, whether its a forum or not

#

Make some friends who know what they're doing so you can get feedback thats actually meaningful 😄

clever mulch
#

or VC it's great for feedback if you aren't rude

jovial forum
#

I have neurological issues with audio processing, I imagine there are probably other people out there who do too, it took me a long time to realize what was actually going on, but I avoid VC unless its for work

#

For a lot of people, it probably is a good option

ancient flame
#

I avoid voicechat for misanthropic reasons.

unreal holly
#

I avoid voicechat because I'm an unsociable git :P

hazy plume
#

seriously tho none of my friend play games so it's difficult

hazy plume
#

the whole point is to get feedback once

#

but yes thanks for agreering

hazy plume
#

i mean when not irl

#

that is also why I can't live without subtitles

jovial forum
#

And honestly, a lot of the people posting there don't want feedback
They pretend they do
But they just want to promote their projects

hazy plume
#

I suppose that makes sense
