rendered with lumen only. The final render will be with path tracer but this is just for composition purposes thus the motion blur quality and lighting is mediocre. The longer shots of the car in certain parts are meant to have visual effects happen on the car, morphing liveries of the car so that's why the shots a bit longer instead of more dynamic cuts.

Car is Chaos Physics, some code/event triggers during the cinematic such as changing the weather at the end, position and timing of the lightning and a few other minor things to make the cinematic more engaging. Comments and critiques very much welcome.

Well done sir. Nice render. Can you give me your 5 hottest tips for car work with chaos physics? Im just this week starting a project with car model. 🙂

# silk seal Well done sir. Nice render. Can you give me your 5 hottest tips for car work wit...
  1. If you are planning on doing any drifting or cornering that requires more than just simple drive, you are better off going with Control Rig for animation on the car instead of Chaos physics. You will save yourself a lot of time. In my case I'm using chaos physics vehicle that is driving along the spline path with throttle and brake controls however if you need fancy moves it will be very hard for you to achieve that with Chaos vehicle. The reason I went with Chaos was because I didn't want to animate the basic physics feel to wheels and braking and how the car behaves but my case has a very simple driving mechanic. A major reason I went with chaos vehicle was because this car is actually drivable as I will have a demo aside from cinematic that will drive it for this project (like a game).

  2. When you are working with level sequences, the first thing you should do is figure out the path of your car and what it will do. The problem with Chaos vehicle is that you can't see really where car is going in the level sequencer unless you actually play it in editor.. so you really have to either A) do a take recorder of the car's animation which you can re-record if you need to and just replace the car sequence as you fine tune or B) Use Chaos Cache Manager to record the drive and then play it in a level sequence as Chaos Cache and not your actual actor. This will allow you to see the Chaos vehicle in the level sequencer. Just remember, you can't attach any cameras in that case inside the Chaos vehicle blueprint so you will have to do camera tracking on a separate level sequencer track.

  3. With your level sequences make sure you work in 60fps. You can easily render it out to 24fps later in Premiere or your program of choice. Chaos physics knows to act funky at the lower framerates.

  4. Be aware that even if you make the car drive itself via spline.. to make your life simpler use the Follow Spline Path component Epic's Stephen Phillips component. https://dev.epicgames.com/community/learning/tutorials/ryL5/unreal-engine-follow-a-spline-and-report-distance-along-it-using-an-actor-component

  5. Expose your car's functionality like steering, braking and similar to cinematics so you can fine tune the behavior of chaos vehicle in your level sequencer.

Wow why thank you , if this is like you said I'm glad I asked, I'm going for a controller based game with front wheel driving that decides the drifting (physically) and I really thought chaos venchie was what I needed. Why is it that chaos venchie makes it hard.

And Thanx for the feedback!

you can definitely adjust drifting in chaos vehicle and play around with vehicle component setup to get desired behavior of the vehicle.. I was just refering to the cinematic itself. With drifting in cinematics it's usually much harder to get it just right even if your chaos vehicle is setup to be able to drift.
