trying to make an italian street scene. feeling like the composition is a bit lacking. would love any and all advice

More stuff in the background probably, and add some pots and plants around the exterior walls of those houses, greenery and vines can help quite a bit too

Some height variation too.
Some houses in the distance higher up, some buildings on the street that are shorter etc

main way to make the composition better is via lighting and a bit of sky cloud tweaking
right now your light is highlighting a barren foreground and the main part of the the scene - the walkway, is in shadow
if you add shadows in the foreground and add a sliver of light in the walkway, with a bit of global illumination, it'll do wonders
