#Help us report voice-chat scammers!

Scammers and hackers are more frequently now joining on Discord Voice channels now because they know Discord is too incompetent to add a report button for user-profiles. We cannot 1-click report them if they put nothing in writing and they know it.

Please document and make clearly visible your recommended way that we can flag these bad actors in Voice Chat, so mods can ban them from your discord.

Out of curiosity, from someone who does not visit VCs, what a scammer does there?

literally they are just trying to run a scam verbally. sometimes it's not - sometimes its just harassment - like mic-spam and soundFX machines. but it's usually some idiot trying to get sms verification codes, or directing ppl to phishing websites "asking for help with something" or "marketers" trying to direct traffic to whatever victim is paying them for services.

#

Side note - NEVER read out an SMS verification code out to ANYONE.
--EVER--
The entire point is for the SYSTEM to validate YOU.
With that code they will probably take control of your account (not necessarily EPIC... ANY account)

Currently the forum rules rely on Discord being competent:
10. Contact a staff member when something is wrong. If you see someone violating the rules, right-click the offending message and choose Apps > Report to Moderators. If you disagree with a moderator's actions, please reach out to us privately instead of discussing it in the server.
This is the reason why they run scams in voice chat instead.

The Report To Moderators app is not your only option.

We encourage people to continue to also ping Moderators directly (preferably via the Moderator role, but pinging individuals is also sufficient), especially in such cases as this where the Reporting app is not applicable (because of lack of a text message to report).

Alternatively you can also approach a Moderator in a private message to report the person(s) in question that you believe is breaking the rules.

These methods are not simply for reporting scammers, any breaches to the rules should be brought up with a Moderator via the best means possible as explained above.

#

VoiceChat has added complexity due to there being no history of what was said (unlike the text channels obviously). Taking recordings of what you consider to be breaking the rules is perfectly fine to support your argument as this is a public server.

#

Bringing this to Moderators can help us understand the problem and identify the users more accurately.
