#Helpfulness rating for answering people's questions

It would be nice to know at a glance who helps a lot around the community, and who only asks questions and doesn't help others in return.
This is very useful in case a person that helps others a lot, has a question themselves. That way their question has a low chance of being ignored/glossed over. People will be inclined to answer questions and generate goodwill which will end up helping them in the future.
This could be an emoji, which, when placed on a user's post increments their helpfulness rating

Being the one who answers more than asking, I don't think this is going to solve that.

It could open up to gamification problems

I don't think having this would make people more likely to help "helpers"

#

I think most people don't purposefully ignore questions, but just don't know the answer or never saw it

# sand kestrel I think most problems could be solved with some boundaries set up, like limiting...

This is a solution for a non-existent problem imo. Like Dieter said, nobody is getting ignored on purpose (mostly) so it's not like extra help is gonna manifest just because a "helper" needs help.

To elaborate on that though, there are people who get ignored, but it's mainly due to their attitude and refusing to provide the people helping them with the code/error/etc they need to help them solve their issue.

Like the discussion we were having in #cpp earlier about construction helpers. They're bad, but they work. You should use a better solution. But people can just give out bad advice and be praised for it. Like most tutorials.

It encourages it even more, though.

it'd def be worse I agree

#

all this would do is exacerbate the issues we already have with bad info being spread

The only rep I need is a thanks and a ๐Ÿ‘ . Secret cries in the corner.

I'll take them being pleasant and not fighting help as payment... thanks are a nice bouns

This may also cause the issue of some helpful answers being ignored just because their rep points arent high enough, and are deemed "less trusted" answers

#

And may prompt elitism issues where people claim they are more "correct" because of their high rep, compared to other helpers.

I'd downvote them so hard.

I have a feeling that such a system would need negative rep

In the end this is another attempt at solving the "Why arent people answering my question" problem. Usually the actual problem is people just asking questions poorly with limited information actually provided. If we have to ask someone to explain their issue better, the less likely we are going to help that when there is someone else with a bunch of screenshots and information provided that we can start solving immediately

#

If someone isnt answering, ask again later with more info. We are not as likely to prompt you for info ourselves, as it should be assumed we need it.

#

For instance, dont just ask "Why isnt my character moving", but actually show the code you have to make it move.

#

Then we can identify the issues immediately

Also maybe it's just me, but FWIW I have more advanced questions that can be unanswered, but on the side I do my own research, or find a workaround if it's not worth immediate tackle.

I heard and understood you guys, thanks for taking your time to elaborate on this ๐Ÿ™‚

It's not that it's a bad idea, per se, it just not necessary and open to abuse.

Hang around long enough and you already know whoโ€™s a good helper or not. I consider myself somewhere in the middle. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Pretty sure we had this before. Also as part of the original thread about people apparently never helping anyone. I'm relatively sure we already decided more than once to not add a system like this.

Its also worth noting even the reputable ones can give bad advice sometimes. no one's immune to mistakes. and taking a "trusted members" answer as gospel because of imaginary rep points aint the way to go.
