#ChatGPT, etc

Can you elaborate with an example of what the problem is as it relates to the server specifically?
To late for what?
Can't you still interject it when it happen?
We are not going to police bad answers, it would be infeasible to do so even if we wanted to. Its up to the community and those that care to be accurate to pull up others who are giving bad advice/answers.
Yeah this is a nothing burger if people want to get or give bad answers using chatGPT
-
people will realize they are giving bad answers and ignore them
-
there's no way to detect an answer that came from chatGPT anyways
I'm just as likely to be outright wrong lol
server rules: never give wrong answers or else!
was my last message produce by a chatbot? we shall never know
FWIW you should intervene when someone answers with ChatGPT, or wrong answer in general
Unless the one giving wrong answer is really stubborn for whatever reason
if you see someone giving outright misleading info that's all you can really do, yeah
When the other misleading answerer is stubborn, it's tempting to just bail out
I think the OP is just confused about what #969360633386655744 is for; it seems like they're giving us "feedback" about what they think is a bad programming practice, not feedback for the server.
I think they are more looking for a server guideline like - do verify chatgpt answers before posting them here. Or something like that. Though, this should be applicable for any kind of answer. Therefore, proceed as usual - shootout if you find a mistake.
Just talk down ChatGPT answers and they will stop
This exists for ages and we can't stop it tbh. I also didn't see users answer questions with it yet. If someone does use that in private then what do we care?
I find it way worse that the code these things produce don't state where it's coming from
Like precisely where
At least copilot did not last time I checked. I haven't looked at ChatGPT yet. I only saw ONE answer to a UE question of it saying to cast the GetPlayerCharacter to your Controller and I immediately knew that thing is absolute bs
I do love that OP mentions "Javascript and Print String debugging" :D Any other hot opinions you want to share?
Let's ban Print String debugging I guess. Lemme quickly PR the PrintString node out of UE.
Somebody not knowing what a generically named "feedback" forum is for? Gosh!
Back then #server-feedback sometimes mistaken as feedback for official Epic Games servers. Not often tho
Not to mention print string debugging can be insanely useful especially when no debugging has straight up lied to me
I like it when I want to examine values over time.
The AI model chat GPT uses, when given a list of medical questions that would be asked to diagnose general medical issues was found to be ~91% accurate. The same questions asked to doctors, when allowed to use the resources they use every day, scored about ~94%. Regardless of the opinion you are going to see it. It's a useful tool, a tool is only as good as the person using it, and you must understand the pros and cons of the tool. To come yell at people with false facts, encouraging not to use it because you don't like it is just stupid. Let people come to their own conclusions. Really no need to discriminate on how people learn game dev or use technology
except espeically for unreal it can be downright wrong
i saw one yesterday that was telling you to connect a getter to an execute pin
dispite them being pure
i tested it on on unrela stuff and sometimes it couldnt understand basic english, so i worry for the efficacy of its code
i am also astonished that you use the medical example as you should only receive medical advice from trained doctors
its not that we dont llike it, its that it is extremely unrealiable
Again I would refer to the tool thing. It's obvious if you ask it to create a inventory system for you, it's going to tell you to pull out the Create Game blueprint node, then to expose the C++ Inventory class to blueprints using a python script.
But, if you give a lot of context, ask how something should be done, go back and fourth, point out the stupid stuff, re roll the answer, suddenly you just found a tool to help with the creative block
You'll never get a copy paste solution, but to be able to basically "phone a friend" whenever you want, and curate their answer is invaluable. It's all about how you use it
I'm saying the model chat GPT is based off of
chat gpt is like the new toy everyone gets to play with while they use that data to make what their actually working on better
I would never say to get medical advice from an AI, you would have to be pretty amazing to have that as a takeaway. I am saying that the AI is just about the same as talking with a person, a person exaggerates and hallucinates the same way an AI, sept I can actually wade through the bullshit better then I can with a human
I don't think we are here to discuss AI though, OP doesn't really have clear feedback for this server and AI, I'm saying don't be a nay sayer and let people experience life themselves ya know?
no one i saying dont use it personally. just dont offer it as a solution to others. the people that do dont bother to check the efficacy of the solutions.
i have seen it multiple times. this server isnt for asking for help then getting a screenshot of ai gen nonsense in response. especially in areas that it cant possibly have amazing training on like blueprints
the ai doesnt know a single thing about unreal, and will ave been trained on the other bad info on the web. hence why it tells you even the most basic things wrong
Look, when you boot up chat GPT, it makes you confirm front and center that none of the information is UNreliable and should not ever be used. You don't use a hammer to screw in a screw, it's not a solution, I agree it shouldn't be presented as such, but it shouldn't get the hate that it does. The AI knows as much about unreal as there is information and chatter about it on the internet
anyone can ask it themselves. you arent helping anyone by responding with an ai gen screenshot in response to a question. if you dont know, then dont answer, dont give an ai gen answer that isnt even accurate
no one is arguing that though. we all know chatgpt can be unreliable, hence why we are saying dont use it as a solution for their problems.
random unreal dev that asks a question doesnt know that chatgpt can be wrong
I don't think anyone is doing that. That is some legit feedback right there "when your bored, don't throw someone's question into chatgpt and paste them back the answer, as an answer" I 100% think that might be the OP's point here
the person that gives it as an answer does, yet does so without checking if the solution works
I agree with that, but I don't see it happening. Maybe I just have missed it but I don't believe that's a problem. If it is, the people actually learning unreal will eventually catch on and disregard those people and they will stop
it is happening, hence my comment on it. i pointed it out last night, and it was the example i gave of it saying to plug a getter into an execute pin
its steps for slowing down when moving backwards were
- get character movement and connect to execute pin
- use an equals(object) node to see if movement direction is backwards
- change max walk speed.
which is a terrible solution
and incorrect because you cant even get past step 1
if it cant get something that simple right, i really dont think it should be offered as an answer
i am all for supporting it's personal use in small amounts, as it can be a great tool, especially for traditional code.
but for a lot of unreal stuff i have seen it be wrong too many times to be used as a tool for helping others
stuff like this too
thats all im saying
i quite like the opportunities this new chatgpt opens up
but currently, in this discord i think it i being misused
i also agree it should not be on the moderators to police that
i still agree with you though that its not server feedback
not much the server can do
as you pointed out it is another tool. but it can also be a tool for bad answers, which isnt really the server's fault
I agree it's shit, but you are approaching it wrong, asking it, or anyone, to do the hard work for you will yield bad results. Almost instantly. At this stage, it's best to ask it things conceptually, like how you would talk in a codeless whiteboard interview (those are also shit)
My personal opinion is that the tools will get better as more people use them, and people will understand not to rely on them or use them at all, and when they should be used. Also the hope being as time goes on those problems will be identified and ignored since they are so common
I had no idea it was an issue here I guess I have been missing that part
It boils down to the mods shouldn't need to remind people that advice is advice and most likely bad, human or not
That is a better way to use it and personally I haven't noticed it used much to answer questions but I just don't see this feedback being very useful discussion for this server particularly as policing it is a zero sum game
Sorry I don't mean you are approaching it wrong, by the way, I am speaking generally, I'm sorry if I come off rude or anything I really don't mean to seem that way, and I appreciate your replies as I think it's really insightful for everybody to see a discussion
Whenever I say things I don't mean to direct it at anyone specifically
don't worry i undersatnd that perfectly, and also understand that such an issue is an issue on the users end, however it is still an issue imo.
beginners arent aware the info is bad, the person offering the answer likely is, and in some cases are just using it as an excuse to not be helpful, which is where the problem lies
still not really server feedback though
you mean those couple of jokes that were made then agreed somewhat with your sentiment but didnt feel it was a server issue?
wouldnt really say the mocking route is to make a point that something you said shouldnt be used can be useful, then make a joke about, but ultimately agree chatgpt is not good for unreal
