Just had one of my posts removed from the work-in-progress forum for having a Discord invite. I was under the impression that you were allowed to post links to your project including the Discord link as long as it was contained on the thread. Nowhere in the rules does it explicitly say this is against the rules. Neither in the actual work-in-progress forum guidelines nor the server rules. At the very least if it does then it’s extremely vague and there’s no way to figure out without getting into trouble for it first (I doubt the work-in-progress thread counts as “spam” which is the only thing in the rules that I see Discord links explicitly mentioned as not being allowed, but even then job posts are allowed to have Discord links….?)

Don’t get me wrong, I respect the rule and I kind of see why its put in place. But frankly the rules need to be less vague about this.

I'd say it is. It says self promo needs to be unreal engine related, which a discord link is not.
It's also somewhat common sense, typically servers dont take kindly to advertising other servers in it

The rules apply to the entire Server. If the rules disallow something, then you cannot post it, if it doesnt then you cant. Project WIP does not have special rules.

Unsolicited Discord Links (ones that are not prompted by another user, in that no body asked for it) are spam. Spam does not just mean making the same or similar posts constantly across the server (this is also not allowed, but can commonly be misinterpreted as the only meaning for the word)

As for links in the Job posts, we try our best to be vigilant and remove what we can, but the reality is that we cannot read every single post made by every single user at all times. The Bots help us in this as well as other users of the community, but the Job posts cannot be automatically parsed for these types of things at the moment and so we have to read them all manually.

Alright, that makes sense. But that said I still think the rules are too vague considering I had to make a feedback thread in order to get clarification. This server has a very different definition of spam than I or most other servers I’ve come across have, so IMO that would be important to specify.

As for job posts, Discord links are disallowed there? That’s good to know. In the past, most of our job posts have included links to our game including Discord links and those have never been removed - unless this is a newer rule. I think the posts were made so long ago that it doesn’t matter because nobody will see them anyway, but if this is a problem I can remove those posts.

The posting guidelines for the channel specify: no promotional links or calls to action of any kind.
