#Quinn fails to send DM when you got hammered.

Quinn is not able to notify you when you got a ban/strike if your DM's is closed. banham

I think it should be possible to notify the user in lounge or in the channel they got strike/ban if Quinn is not able to access user's DMs.

This problem introduces multiple problems like when you're striked you dont know the reason at the beginning, and you have no idea if you got striked or not since "timed out" does not imply anything relevant with it. Also after the timeout sometimes people end up pinging mods to ask why and it leads to uncomfortable conversations between people.

#

And if I'm not mistaken, there was a feature to message the moderators when you got a ban. If Quinn fails to DM people, it might also prevent them to send message to mods to explain their problem or motivation about the issue. So people also losing their chance to explain theirselves in some situations too, just because their DMs are not open to non-friend users

Our DMs are open though, so they can DM us (:

#

Also, if you get banned you can't really read the lounge anymore. If they don't allow the bots to DM them, then there is little we can do.
I think we can send user only messages, so I would argue that we might be able to send a strike reason as a user only message, but that's something for @lone pilot to answer.

Not to the person who got the strike/ban/etc.

Right, so we can only post a reason public, which I think we don't want. So users who have DMs closed are out of luck I guess.

DM is the only option we have for notifying people when they are punished.

Apart from public notices.

That sounds like the same idea as people driving slow past an accident so they can satisfy their curiosity.
There is no reason for anyone but the person involved to know.

Ohh, yeah. Well, that makes sense. How would you think about timed messages then? Like if Quinn would remove the message after n minutes

#

be it 1 minute or 5 minute

#

I guess we cant stop people taking screenshots but if they are that mad about it, they wouldnt act properly even when they striked silently too 😄

feral marten
#

That assumes people would know immediately when they've been striked.

Again, they can ask us if they blocked DMs generally.

#

Our DMs are open.

#

And if you manage to get 3 strikes, you probably know what stuff you are constantly causing.

Well if the moderators are fine with that idea... ChillBar_shrug

To build on what Cedric said: we're trying to avoid disrupting or derailing a channel. Ideally, we want to encourage an environment where, if someone disruptive is punished, everyone else can move on as soon as possible.

alright then, thanks for the attention

Of course.

I see a third option for notifying users: when punished, let them see only a reason channel unique to them and mods that they have to react to to regain full access; a jail cell of sorts.

# elfin vigil I see a third option for notifying users: when punished, let them see only a rea...

That would bloat the channel list on moderator side, but a general purpose read only channel for "soft banned" users saying "You have been banned, reach out to moderators if you disagree" could work. Those who are in the soft banned role cannot see any other channel except the read-only soft ban notice channel

Caveats would be that the bot have to remember users that are soft banned so that they can get soft banned again immediately if they try to do "rejoin scumming", and those in the ban list can see other members in the same role, akin to prison cell.
