#Rename feedback to server-feedback
1 messages ยท Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Isn't that what the old name was before we made it a forum?
Shrug
also pretty sure this got recommended already, I think back when we got the first few people in here giving feedback for Epic
Shoulda been done then then ๐
I agree, I guess I'm saying I don't think this will happen since they know about this confusion and didn't rename it already lol
yeah the last one was denied because "it doesnt happen very often" but still. Its like a few clicks and some letters.
It might be more than that since they have an archived version of the old one, I don't know if you can have an archived channel and an active channel with the same name
so maybe it's 2 renames lol
๐ฑ the horror.
but yeah, forgot about the archived ones lol
ueslackers-feedback ? ๐
unreal-slackers-not-affiliated-with-official-epic-support-but-there-are-a-few-employees-here-because-why-not-server-feedback?
I'm curious why this is being requested again. I haven't seen any more evidence of confusion recently.
Well somebody made a post just earlier and deleted it because I said it wasn't server feedback.
I do this every few days.
Cedric asked me to post this so the other thread could be removed.
Hm that's odd. No idea why we would need to delete a post.
I still see the last one about renaming this channel.
From June 2022.
I see. And people delete their post every time?
Seems like forum channels don't show up in the audit logs. ๐ฆ
Makes it hard to keep track of things like this.
yeah there was a server feedback forum post requesting help with an issue, and feedback on how to implement it. i tried using quinn to report it and it must have worked because it went down
even if it is infrequent, the name change should still be worth it no? it's not like its major restructuring. unless it is, and theres some funky bot stuff i dont know about ๐
It was previously named server-feedback for years because we were worried about this. When I changed it to just #969360633386655744, we did not see an increase in confusion or posts leaving feedback for Epic, so I left it.
The frequency of posts that are for Epic and not us has been about the same.
I might change it back when the new website launches because I'll likely want a feedback channel for that. Although I could also just add a "website" tag. Still not sure.
its not necessarily engine feedback. i have seen a few fairly recently that are more feedback for [INSERT PROJECT THEY ARE WORKING ON]
specifiying this is server feedback again, is a quick change, and could help eliminate that, as it wasnt something i ever saw in the old channel.
In contrast to that, I saw Unreal support questions like "Unreal is broke, my blueprint isn't working, etc." show up in the old feedback channel. So I'm not convinced the "server-" prefix really does much to help.
maybe its a case of me being in the wrong place at the wrong time then. because it seems we have opposite experiences ๐
Personally I suspect this would be better helped by some new user onboarding improvements.
indeed. discord really lacks on the "new user intro" front.
aside from locking channels until you scroll through the server rules. which doesnt really help because it's intrusive
To be fair they're working on adding a lot of good features in this area right now.
any new features you get to play around with soon then?
We have a welcome screen that explains what the server is for and suggests good first channels. We have #more-resources with a brief welcome and links to resources, and we have the Home tab now. But we don't have anything specifically catered towards beginners. That's where my head is at lately.
Nothing we have access to yet, but I can say they're working on two features that will significantly change the game in this area.
One of them will significantly change how Discord works as a whole.
sounds interesting. looking forward to seeing what they come up with
I think it's going to be good for large servers like us.
and uh oh to that last bit.
sounds like a hit or miss there could be fatal
While you may not be convinced, what harm does it cause?
It's not going to make things any more confusing and it has potential to reduce things a little.
true. the potential is there to reduce it. its not really a significant time investment, nor does it pose a risk. its also not really controversial
it could do nothing. and if it does you have wasted 30 seconds typing a word
"Why not" is never a good reason to do something, in my opinion. And again, this isn't something we don't have experience with.
It was called server-feedback for several years, and things were not better.
So I don't understand the motivation.
How do you know they weren't better? You said yourself there are no logs of what's going on and you don't seem to know about the posts that actually occur.
And I wouldn't say it's "why not."
I just want to chime in as another person who has seen incorrect "feedback" posts (both about Epic stuff and personal projects) and as soon as they get pointed out the OP deletes the thread
Maybe 1-2 times a month that I've seen
How do you know they weren't better?
It seems to be the same frequency of mistakes, and same frequency of suggestions to rename the channel. We've tried several names over the years. server-feedback stuck for the longest. I'm not saying it's bad! I'm saying my experience tells me changing it back to that won't make a difference.
You said yourself there are no logs of what's going on
I was referring to forum channels specifically.
I was referring to them too!
Thanks. I believe you.
I'm just not sure why it was changed to just "feedback" in the first place.
Oh, I see. You're saying I don't have good data on the current channel, not the previous one.
server-feedback seems perfect.
Yeah.
Yes that's why I added another data point, I know you believe us lol
One of you says it happens every few days; the other says 1-2 times a month. My experience is in line with the latter, and I check this channel almost every day. I see where you guys are coming from. I'm just telling you that it doesn't seem any different since we dropped "server" from the name.
I'll meet you halfway: I'm open to considering a new name that is not server feedback.
I mentioned earlier I'm thinking about this anyway since we're launching a new website soon, and I may add a separate feedback channel for that.
If I were to give it a new name entirely, what would you guys suggest?
Just to clarify I'm saying I see it 1-2 times a month, no clue how often it happens... I'm not always here or even close to it
Of course.
I don't expect members of the community to check as often as we (staff) do. ๐
feedback-server !
ueslackers-feedback
You could go completely left field and just call it something random.
Then only people who actually read the description would know what it is.
And nobody would ever think to post about lyra help or epic feedback.
discord-server-feedback
or discord-suggestions
or just suggestions
You just know if you call it discord-feedback some muppet is going to post feedback about the discord client thinking we have some sort of special connection to discord
Hell then, server-suggestions or even slackers-suggestions. Alliteration makes it automatically cool
Or even nothing-to-see-here.
What about complaining-that-nobody-answered-my-poorly-worded-questions-I-put-in-the-wrong-channel-which-means-nobody-ever-gets-helped-obviously?
No # !
ok better now? haha
๐
I deleted a post that someone made about feedback for their project. Because that doesn't belong here. Which is why Daekesh wanted to rename it to make it clearer that this channel is not for general feedback on your own projects.
Kinda late to the party I guess.
