Oh
But i could do level design, only if its paid though
Cant do it for free, im doing other projects atm that require alot more attention
what's the difference betwen level and a world '
@wild solstice there is none in this scenario
i know which is why i find it funny that someone who does it 'professionaly' is confused about it (no offence intended)
anyway @plucky hatch you should make a more professional post about looking for paid work, with a link to your work, should be getting jobs in no time
@plucky hatch add tag and some portfolio link
i can post some screenshots ๐ ฑ
actually
i can also do 8 bit sound effects
25 cents per sound
my portfolio is my discord server lmao
[paid] composing and sound effects - https://soundcloud.com/electiwirez
awww
i thought you were going to do a music one
i knew a good guy for you
What?
I saw compose
Yes?
got excited because my friend does music
I mak emusic.
Oh.
Welp I need money.
i have more screens on there than anything else
If you expect people to take you seriously. Set up a website.
Not saying that setting up a discord server for yourself is bad. Where you can post updates and whatever. But I just don't see how anyone would take you as being a "pro" in anything without an online portfolio of some sort.
Even just an ArtStation would be better.
okay
Posting screenshots doesn't do anything for anyone other than #work-in-progress
@mental drum lol
hmmm
But yeah need a webpage or something with all images, random posted images never work
This was a serious matter. I mean, does anyone else have their portfolio set up on a Discord? Is this a new trend?
I guess ill leave
Anything art related, people would be like, what's your ArtStation?
Or your website.
@Luke Landwalker#2967 No need to leave. Just trying to help you out.
Do you guys need music for your game?
@plucky hatch of course we do.
do you want my music?
You say $10/track.
@plucky hatch do you have any actual GameDev experience?
i worked for fangames
honestly not any real games
but look at my compositions
they are pretty good
i mean decent
by the way was just a jk and later told you that, no idea why exit because of that
He just wasn't able to take constructive criticism.
Not really advertising a job but I would love to know if someone would be willing to teach me blueprint or c++
Plenty of free resources
@strange hinge
If you are wanting someone to tutor you, you would have to request that.
But the chances anyone would tutor you for free...eh
Not impossible though
Yeah that's what I was expecting
I sometimes tutor people for free
I've more or less given up on that, though
People usually end up happily doing their own thing while ignoring sound advice
(I'm V_Rex btw)
(Just put my name back)
Lol
To be fair, I don't tutor paid either, since I have no way of being paid
And most people in need of tutoring don't have money dedicated to pay for it xD
Need to find some whale who is bored and wants to try GameDev then.
If I did, no one would know
So you are no-one?
reference? (Insert confused face)
There we go

What is the best way to receive the payments today?
@pastel estuary what about chargebacks?
@opal cloak has had one doofus trying to do so, but she won the dispute.
as long as you have proper proof it shouldnt be a problem, besides a frustrating time-waster.
@pastel estuary ok, thanks for clarification, i was really unsure if i should stick with PP
No one likes paypal, they have shark-like fees
They overcharge every single thing they can
Direct transfers are the best
I always do bank 2 bank. I would possibly add to a skrill account but I wont use paypal
I'd absolutely try and force anyone paying me to do bank transfer
Except I don't get paid
x3
I still would though
If @opal cloak doesn't mind sharing the info on the culprit, it would be nice to know. So others can stay away from scammers.
Paypal is the worst because they're fantastic liars. I once got my account limited because they wanted my bank details, due to it being "EU law".
When confronted with "I'd love to hear exactly what statute or reference I can find that under", my account mysteriously had the limit removed, and no mention of this ever made again.
They're technically not a bank as well, which makes for all kinds of "fun".
I've never had any issues with using PayPal for disbursements
But maybe that's just because I'm in the US
I used to get paid via checks also when I was working for a studio remotely. So that's always an option. As long as you can trust that person/company ๐
Paypal locked my account years ago with funds inside it citing "security issues", and never let me get it back
I raised this issue with my bank, since the accounts were connected and Paypal had drawn funds from my account
I got my money back, but Paypal has permanently blocked all my bank accounts
they would never tell me what the "security issues" were, and no information I could give them was apparently enough to get my account back
lol
Hey folks. So I'm kind of at my wits end. I've been applying to every company I can (AAA and indie) for entry-level testing and programming jobs, but I haven't heard back from anyone. Am I doing something wrong? Should I try to get in touch with people at these companies?
You can talk to me
we need more modelers
maybe more of programming
@strong shoal
@ancient light I am a programmer. Is it a paid position?
Thank you for the offer, but I'm looking for full time employment right now
[ROYALTY] Looking for a modeler for this project: :http://store.steampowered.com/app/672220/Unlimited/
Unlimited is a new generation voxel world game in a mysterious world.Together with unlimited possibilities and an immersive story, we aim to make the best voxel world game.If you enjoy any other voxel games, you will probably enjoy this game even...
Jul 19, 2017
Hmm why is it not pinning it?
The bot hasn't been working for a while
@strong shoal I sure hope you have some form of portfolio?
Otherwise they're never going to hire you without relevant degree
You need at least one of those two
With portfolio being most important, I'd think
I had a portfolio up for a bit, but I took it because I got too much criticism on its aesthetics
@strong shoal Hey
Can I see your portfolio?
Even if it's barebones or "hidden"
@strong shoal Or Linkedin/resume ?
Hmm
Well first off, there's the lack of relevant experience. But that's usually not an issue when it comes to entry level stuff. I think the biggest issue, for me, would be lack of online portfolio.
You've only worked on one game (Lead N Brimstone?), but there's nothing when I google that game
Nvm, found something on the company site
Okay, it's not released yet.
So yeah, I would defintely say, you need a better online representation of yourself. Definitely showing some personal projects you've worked on or something.
I think that's fair, and hopefully something I will have corrected by tonight
@drowsy tundra Do they mean to fix it anytime soon? xD
Also you seems to be here 24/7 xD <3
I've got no idea, just seen it mentioned on here
It's not like the bot itself is down, it still does welcome messages and things like that
Just the pinning doesn't work :/
Maybe mods should pin stuff for now, gonna be really hard to find stuff without it ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
@everyone Hi, I am a programmer for 8 years and know C++, C#, C, Java, SQL and Python. Currently working on a project set to be released on steam (paid) with another person. We have the marketing ready and are in need of people. Send me a private message if you are interested ๐
@hidden hill why
Just why
ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
@hidden hill Wow nice now I can verify that you are a 9 years old kid that has no idea what he is doing
@ everyone in a 2k ppl server and then talking like this, nice
@sour mist It seems as if this person is rather a bot. Copy pasting his message in the discord search bar reveals two people with the same message. They are namely @hidden hill and @lean cove
@opal cloak I think you might want to look into this. Thanks.
@knotty cosmos Are you sure this is a bot? I look now and it looks like someone/or him removed some of his messages
Can't guarantee, but it is likely spammed by the same person. The messages are exactly identical.
Wasp is looking for "people".
I'm a person.
When will I get paid, if I take the person job?
Yea lol actually just read his message and he didnt say who he is really looking for, he just said "PM" me
@pastel estuary Thats you!? ๐ thats really cool, I think I saw it on lvl80
hey @proud patio you still looking for someone to help blueprint program your heist game ? I tried to DM you earlier this week but dunno if you saw my message on discord

@sour mist please refrain from posting fake job listings.
Sorry, didnt ** it tho so it didnt pin

Bot is down anyway, but a lot of people don't know about pinning either so just refrain from it :)

https://answers.unrealengine.com/questions/520109/ai-orient-movement-to-rotation.html
Looking for a hero to help me achieve this by writing an override class for the pathfollowing component. Could try it myself, but I'll almost certainly fail as I'm awful at C++.
thatll cost ya $800 @hybrid phoenix
@V_Rex#8437 So you want the boss to stay in a single place? Your image makes it look like it's circling and moving...but in an elyptic path from the top
@untold granite I want him to only move forward, rather than moving backwards and sideways while it's turning to face the target
isn't there a 'can strafe' flag in the movement component?
Yup
And it does exactly nothing
I've tested every single setting relating to it
I've spent three days trying stuff
maybe it's just for AI
seems odd that it would only be for AI, but in this case, we are specifically talking about AI, in which case I'm sure I've used that flag before
Really though, I've scoured the docs, answers and the rest of the internet
I've tried everything that doesn't involve an override
Only useful stuff I've found is posts concluding the only way to do what I want is by overriding the pathfollowing component
Any ETA on when our good 'ole bot will be back to pinning?
[PAID] [Looking for Work]
Blueprint / C# / Technical Art (Materials, Art Implementation, Dynamic Lighting) / Level Design
I've been working in Unreal Engine 4 for over half a year, and in that time worked a lot using both Blueprint and the Material Editor. I'm decent at blueprint work, mainly due to previous programming experience in Unity (Two years). Before that, I started Level Design in CryEngine, so at this point I have three years of experience in Level Design (mainly aimed at open-world design).
I prefer to do Level Design, and will be fine doing the technical art such as custom materials, and the occasional blueprints (getting doors to open) involved in getting the level ready.
I do not currently have my portfolio set up, but if you need any of these, drop me a PM and I will gladly see what I can do for you.
I only take payment through bank transfers.
Someone asked me for a resume for the first time in a couple of years, I forgot what its like to write a resume

Guys, I am working on a VR ArchVis project with fixed price, and the client asks for the ue4 project source, is it normal to give him the source?, I am wondering if the rights of the project belongs to the client or not?
@urban pier yes
He is paying you for the service no?
To be honest, it really depends on the contract you signed.
But ethically, I don't see an issue with giving him source if he requests it after the fact.
Legally, it depends on the contract.
I thought you were the same one from VR
If you really just want to hold onto your source, for some reason, you can get that in the contract
Aye
but generally if you didn't already do that, its theirs to request and I'd include it in my deliverable
But, you shouldn't think you have exclusive rights to source if they are paying for the development of it.
Aye, depends on contract
Exactly
I personally wouldn't care if it were included (but usually will have a simple blurb about it in service contract anyway) since again... They are paying for the development of the project.
In my eyes, it is theirs.
and whereever you have some 3rd party content in it or not
I am just facilitating the service requested.
if you used some payed plugin and it's now part of your codebase, your client need to legally own it too
um willing to charge him for the project source since it contain models, complex materials, BP which I made before working on this project ๐
Well. I guess in my latest contract. I have to mash together FOUR different Marketplace assets for my client. I am obviously going to give him the project so he can continue development however he pleases
um willig unwilling? You're willing? Um, will I?
might want to be clear that it's a non-exclusive too, so you can use the same code for your other projects
@kindred mason Dang man
The most I've done is something like 6 BP packs - 1 C++ plugin
Some assets have overlapping systems
Lets not get into art packs, they don't count
@urban pier TBH, if you ever did that to me, I would never hire you again and leave a crap review.
So in future, you'll be crystal clear in your contracts- right @urban pier?
is it normal to withhold source access until payment has been made?
What, if he charged you for the time to make the pre-made assets and then charged you for them???
Kinda confused where your objection lies
@fallen cosmos you can wait until the end
Like I mentioned earlier... Set up milestones.
He can charge for the asset itself and then the time to integrate that asset
IMO
But it has to be market rate for the asset- can't be more
Any premade assets is cheaping out
And he can't charge for the initial cost of developing the system
Not if the client wants it
He used those assets to make his work easier
Again, all my opinion
Faster
That was his own doing. Client should not have to pay extra
Client should get full access.
If somebody came to me and wanted to hire me to use my own pack, but didn't own it.... I'd totally charge them for the pack and my time.
Yeah, if this was a surprise....
?
top tip : License your work for a fee. Sell your work for a fee * 5
That's different
If he just decided to use some of his old stuff, then I agree
Yeah that's what he did
From the sound of it.
Just because I use old code I have used. Or old techniques. Doesn't mean I can charge extra for my "previous" experience or code.
The client is already paying for it via the hourly fee.
Which is what is being used in this case.
I rather build up a good work ethic/reputation than come off as some wierdo charging fees after the fact.
I would take this one as a loss. Use it as a good learning experience.
@dreamy jacinth ?
Fee * 5?
Well, I wouldn't try any 'fast ones' after the fact... certainly not.
And I agree with you for this case.
Psh
;)
Still think there are cases where you might charge for something you've done before- if its agreed on first. MP pack is just the obvious example.
And Marc is saying you license work so that you keep the rights
@digital gate yeah, if it's your own stuff
You can charge them the price (or cheaper) up front
@digital gate do you have a code project on MP?
I can't be hypothetical?
If I had a Multiplayer-ready MOBA pack
Oh and if you haven't actually had an offer, that doesn't count either
Multiplayer ready
But better than my current framework
I would use my pack as a base. But probably not charge him.
Depending on a few factors though
What I'd do is update the asset, maybe raise the price, and then he can buy the asset
Or
Develop a new asset, and offer him an early license
Or exclusive rights
Well. Let's say the contract is probably a few months Worth of work
But he only pays for the asset, not all the work
$7500
unless exclusive rights
I could care less about a $50 asset pack
because exclusive rights means that its basically just a regular contract now
Right.
And that's mostly what people are wanting anyway
Very few contracts will come through non-exclusive
But lets assume he doesn't care, so I'd work with him on features he wants. He doesn't pay for my time, but I can sell it.
Unless it's from @vernal wolf
We just come to an agreement on the license fee
just to see if I follow- someone is only chargin $7500 for 3 months of full time work?
I've done it
@sacred tusk 3 months doesn't necessarily mean 40 hrs/wk, 160hrs/month
I don't do it anymore
But even if it did
But I've done it, absolutely
Some people can do it
I had been making $2500/month for a studio while I was a student.
I didn't mind it.
@kindred mason well, that's what full time is suppose to mean. When it's less than 40 it's a part time.
Unless in US this means something else ๐

@plucky hatch proper lawer would be a good thing to do ๐
@plucky hatch `murica
don't save on lawers ๐
Aye, lawyers are the best part
You try to do a contract yourself and you forget one little detail...
You just lost million bucks
Extreme example obviously
But the only thing that matters is that contract
@plucky hatch to be clear, I have no idea about possible complications but if you suspect something like that, it's better to check
As i know you write down in the contract that all lawstuff is under the laws of your country in this case norway
for example, in Switzerland people find it harder to hiring someone from US, not because of their laws but because of imigration policies. But lawers can help with alternative arrangments - hiring by subsidiary or using agency
ah
That doesn't work
With remote
You have to be very careful when dealing with international laws
Just because you put something in writing about some strange law in Norway
Doesn't necessarily mean it's enforceable in the USA
Well but then the guy from us have the problem as i know
Not you
Because you acted in your country like your laws work
remote/on-site is very different in this case
I don't hold an International Law degree
And probably no one on here does
I mean really, if someone f8Cks you over
They are just going to tarnish their own reputation
good attitude, especially in case of wives ๐

Looking for someone to show me the ropes with C++. Help me understand it, help me figure out how to properly code. That's it, really. feel free to PM me
@waxen torrent In my experience, you have to do most of that yourself, because you have to learn how to learn that stuff - so you can later answer questions yourself. It's way easier to answer specific questions you have, and sure, maybe someone showing you the basics makes sense, but in the end - you have to learn it. Docs are out there. ๐

@vocal abyss
This means that if I were to leave after the game's released, I don't get paid anymore? ๐
(I'm not even an animator, I just like to look at job postings)
"As long as they are working with Celtic Dragon Studio" -> If you leave you don't get paid
like what i mean is that if you are still there for when the game is finsihed and realised you get some royalty for that even after you leave but you wont be getting if you leave before the game is finished
But you will still use the person's assets?
Any animators , modellers pm me for work!
Hello, it there anyone that has experience with Camera Projection setups in UE 4 ? It would be paid work for a comercial, I need an answer today ๐ ... They need a setup similar to this, but that actualy works ๐ : https://forums.unrealengine.com/showthread.php?109643-Camera-projection-CameraVectorWS
@hybrid phoenix That sounds quite fishy indeed. On top of that studio can decide themselves if someone is working for them or not anymore. What if you work and then can't work anymore because of health reasons?
I understand that there is no standard in how royalty based compensation is made, but you do need a contract with your employees in any case and people are suppose to be compensated in proportion to their contribution and not for a simple fact of being on a list.
This is necessary for both sides, as if person wasn't compensated for their work, they can demand that contribution to not be used - if there was no contract that release their ownership over the work that they've done.
Another reason to have those contacts is for cases when investor or buyer will appear - your legal side has to be clean as people would rather avoid legal implications with former employees.
[looking for work]
Pay me money to do things
@nimble sable pm me
That is like....the most descriptionless listing I've ever seen ๐
Please atleast mention your skills (AKA modelling, BP, c++ etc.)

Man oh man... can anyone tell me at least three things wrong with this contract? https://gyazo.com/46bb4f082d930b4643418e82b89277ce
Duration is 3 months at the top and it's not an NDA, it's just a contractual agreement for work to be done
but it says NDA at the top
and also theres no duration for the NDA "parts" of it
well since the contract is an "NDA" and the duration is 3 months, I would imagine that's it
also hourly pay isnt specified, so basically $0
NDA should be another agreement which is signed alongside the actual contract
yea that's why i originally said this wasn't the NDA then realized it said it right at the top lol
@kindred mason did you get this?
also it speaks about deadlines and pay is hourly, so it seems like one side can screw the other
Aye, I just received it ๐ญ
The wording of the hourly rate payment is really odd.
To me it sounds like you WONT be paid hourly until closer to release lol
"I will be paid on an hourly basis towards the completion of an project...."
What does that even mean.
You only get paid for the hours you worked when the project is done?
Whos to say the project will even be completed...
Lol
Whats the hourly rate?
So, the rate will be my rate on Upwork
Ah k
But yeah, I looked at this and was like wtf, the contract before this one, was 7 pages long...lol
I know everyone has different contracts and stuff, but I wanted to make sure people knew what crappy contracts looked like.
That one sounds like he wrote it himself after doing 1 google search
Weird contract. Ill-worded. Wouldn't trust it, and doesn't seem like it'd hold in court if it ever came to that.
Sounds like a contract from a guy who would name his stealth game after a line of cleaning products
@digital gate "BAM and the dirt is gone" sounds stealthy
You can use stealth to turn the TIDE of any engagement
...
@kindred mason clearly that contract is written by someone who doesnt know what they're doing
even if they choose to have an extendible contract they can't do that unless they get the explicit permission from the signer
in an nda you'd have to outline the key terms of not sharing data recieved or given lmao
that means that you could get away with some things they dont want you to do... not suggesting anything doe

Looking for a gameplay scripter / programmer for a lightweight fun, quirky strategy prototype. Hello dear Programmers!
I am the creator of the Project: Unreal Fighter 2D, a Template where you can create 2D Fighting Games and I need your help about it!
Here is a link to the project: https://forums.unrealengine.com/showthread.php?93255-PROJECT-Unreal-Fighter-2D
The things I need are all Engine extensions as I will be giving more detailed information below about them. So that's why I need an experienced C++ Programmer to get the Flipbooks to a next level.
So here are the things that I need (Which may increase in time.);
Flipbook Engine Extensions: Currently Flipbook Sprites can not be changed runtime and you can't create a flipbook with a function aswell. It would be great to be able to change/add/remove sprites from a flipbook and being able to create a flipbook from scratch by using a function that has the options of "frame per second" and "array of sprites" etc. runtime.
Being able to use Flipbooks in UMG: This is already achievable by a marketplace item but I want a system of my own with flipbooks being able to run in UMG with "Start" "Stop" "Loop(B)" functions.
I can pay via Sendvalu.com and via Paypal as Payment Requests.
Thanks for your time and reading!
Hello I'm wondering if theres any programmers that may be searching for projects?

ENVIRONMENTAL / ARCHITECTURAL ARTIST - 3D
Metamorphix Studios is looking for a talented Environmental Artist to design a modern home (exterior and interior), along with surrounding yard, for an exciting VR game demo in UE4.
We are looking for someone who can accomplish this in a relatively short timeframe (several weeks.)
Experience in Arch Vis / level design is preferable. We are not looking for photorealism, but a realistic-looking living area optimized for VR.
Must be able to model and texture as necessary. Using prefab assets will be acceptable, as long as they fit the style of what we're building.
Strong communication skills and a passionate drive to create worlds are highly desirable!
Please PM me if interested. Look forward to hearing from you!
Haha. Literally humans and vehicles are the only two things we need
[ROYALTY]
Looking For: Modelers | Animators | Sound Producers | Level Designer In UE4 | Texture Artist
My Exp: I'm gonna be the project leader and programmer.
Project:
We are doing this project as a hobby.
We have already started, we are aiming to release in Early Access in about 1-2 months.
Here are some of the key features of the game:
- A big open world to explore and build in.
- Survival Stats
- Character Attributes
- Skills system to unlock craftables.
- Can tame and ride creatures.
- To get certain creatures in the game, you will have to breed creatures and there will be a chance of getting a different creature.
- An advanced building system
- Your planet has exploded and you came to this planet to survive, what you dont know about this planet is that everthing thats on it including you has some sort of magic powers, which is from the core of it (end game.. story..).. And because of this power you find out that you can make spells and cool magic stuff
Length Of project: When the game is "out" it's gonna be in Early Access. We aim to release the game out of Early Access in about a year.
Split: Depending on the sales, we will talk about that when we get close to release.
Looking for an artist to do clothing, and combat animations for 10 characters with various weapon styles.

Hey guys
I am a 3D artist, I have been learning 3D for 3 years and I finish university with my 3D animation diploma in 2 months.
My strong points are modelling and texturing. I am looking for a job or just to help someone for more experience.
As far as paying goes, it all comes down to how much you're putting on my shoulders :) but if it's small I can work for free ;)
[PAID] [LFW]
Looking for work: 3D Generalist.
Protfolio: https://www.artstation.com/artist/flakusha
Rates and availability: $5-15/hour, available more than 30 hrs/week.
Skills:
- Hardsurface modeling, assets modeling, level architecture modeling;
- Character modeling;
- PBR texturing;
- Rigging and animation;
- Unreal Engine material creation;
- Rendering in Unity, Unreal, Blender Cycles/Eevee.
Software: - 3D: Blender, Modo, Substance Designer, Substance Painter, xNormal, Krita/Photoshop/RawTherapee, AwesomeBump, Unity, Unreal.
- CAD: AutoCAD, Solidworkds, Draftsight, FreeCAD.
- Source control: Git, Perforce.
Hey man. Seems like you're undervaluing yourself and your time at $5-$15 per hour
from my experience if you go higher a lot ppl just saying ok then ill take someone cheaper ^^ (sad but true atleast often) @wet tundra
I guess if you want constant work then it's fine and can probably break even, but someone with a lot of experience can typically charge $30-$50 without issue
I've only had one person tell me they couldn't go higher than $15/hr within the past year.
ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
ye me2 ๐
but well its the indie industrie noone is rich so ye 30-50$ are dreams for AAA studios ๐
Generally Id say if you cant afford $15 you shouldnt be trying to higher someone because you really undervalue their time and work
I would be insulted if someone said "I can pay you $10-$15/h"
If I wanted to make that money I would work at mcdonalds
Lol..
Some people have higher standards, others don't. Some people do it because it's fun.. people might not value money as much as the next guy/do it as a hobby, so they might not charge as much. It really depends on the person. ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
^ That. Also, experience plays a big part. If someone is brand new and is trying to build reputation and a resume, I should hope they work for whatever they can get.
We all gotta start somewhere.
Mhm.
@wet tundra that's actually good money for my current habitat and even good for Europe as I can work 8-12 hrs a day ๐ Thank you for an argument though.
On the other side market demands lots of 3D specialists and all the places in the industry are occupied anyway.
Many studios do not hire foreigners or remote workers.
As long as you know your value and arent selling yourself short then all is good!
well i talked once to a guy that wanted over 20 different weapons in battlefield quality
i told him hm 100โฌ per gun but then he said its too expensive someone offered me 20โฌ per gun ๐
the buisness is tough so ๐
Yeah but at that point they are most likely getting an inferior product
ye probably
$30-$50/hour for contracts is not impossible, even for Indie Devs. But yes, you will need to have some experience and a good portfolio and recommendations to get to this tier.
I think I mentioned this a month ago, but one of our lovely devs was "conned" into a programming gig at $2/hour
The issue with this, is that this same client was also paying one of our other lovely devs $30+/hr
$2 an hour, jeez?
So, what's that say about the client?
Yeah, but now he's got a decent gig at $15/hr
that's good
I was gonna say, pass him on to me and I'll give him $4 xD
Heh
The thing about it is...he's pretty good too.
So, yeah, don't undersell yourselves. Even if you're hurting for money.
A better opportunity will come surely.
well, if you tell someone you're willing to work for $2 an hour, they'll pay you $2 an hour
Aye, that's the issue with most negotations
People don't know how to
Most clients won't tell you their budget
heck, I'd offer them $3 and they'd think I'm being overly generous (even if my budget was $20)
They will wait to hear your offer
And then lowball you as much as possible, usually.
yup
But. I've had some really awesome clients so far...
you won't get lowballed in Western Europe from a serious client, it's considered extremely rude
but elsewhere, they'll try and negotiate downwards
It depends again, "serious client" is subjective
I would assume most anyone on here looking for devs are "serious"
for 2$ an hour u better program some bitcoin miner in there ๐
back when i did an internship i had to set up a database, and got payed way under minimum, had to do something to pass the class tho
but after a year they actually needed changes and i didnt comment anything so was impossiburu for any1 to do anything with it for other than what it was set up too do, got compensated for my crap pay later ๐
Pay me like I'm shit, I'll work like shit? ๐
That's pretty unethical. You should always do as much as you can, even when paid poorly
I mean if I agree to the payment yeah, but I'm guilty of doing that too, due to what happened between me and the company. They 'forced' me to work in a no pay situation after promising a set budget, and before I could walk out, I had signed into it, so when I was finished, they brought me back in at triple the rate I had asked for to better, and fix the code. (Seriously, why would you rip someone off of $5/h?) and we both got what we wanted. A functional code, and a good pay.
But definitely do try to always do best you can.
hey, they made glue, they didnt save drowning kittens from starvation ๐
and my work was good enough for them to want expantions for it
asking for decent pay for the work i allready did to expand on it is pretty fair ๐
dang
I see alot of indie studios with people working on a game for royalty , but the last good 3d artist I found he asked for $300 a day lol
its a difference between freelancer proffesionals
and AAA studio eployees
AAA Freelancer take 300$ a day because often they get jobs for 2-3month and then no job for some month
yeah
I'm just trying to be one of those small teams who develops a decent looking game you know
not huge AAA studio or anything
some 2d artist on artstation makes 3k a week on patreon alone ๐
pretty good art tho
3k is off the chain
Whoah, guys. I'm not sure if I should have posted LFW here. So big debate lol.
eh, don't blame yourself
In my country post-graduated students rarely get more than $300-350 per month.
Most talented leave country for better opportunuties and minority works in really serious and big companies, mostly foreign and get $500+. IDK for around $1000 a month I could make lots of assets and could afford myself much better life conditions.
Aye
That's the issue really. Some people can afford lower rates.
Which brings down the overall impressions of value/worth on some devs (for the same job)
[PAID] $25 if someone can explain why FWidgetRenderer is rendering full blank pixels (0,0,0,0) when running in a commandlet? Commandlet is setting PRIVATE_GAllowCommandletRendering to true and initializing the slate application in CreateCustomEngine. Expires if I find the solution myself.
Going to hail mary tag @versed trout while I sleep.
https://i.gyazo.com/85cdbd35f63e40201722491fe0377ed7.png
I wouldnt even get out of bed for double that.
What do you price your animation, modeling, compositing, lighting, other other visual effects at for freelancer or salary rates at a studio?
he wants to hire you for cheap
Why does it need to send the results by email....
Why cant it just show me what my theoretical worth as an vfxartist would be if i was one
because stupid website
lol, wtf. With certain settings he suggest you should be charging 2$ per h. At that point you might as well go collecting cans and bottles on the street and you probably make more money.
I have an alt fake email for those kind of things
Me to lol
filled with spam and anything I sign for
I just put in a sarcastic fake e-mail address
on another semi-job related thing.
how much would it cost to get me a macro that moves the content I select in the contentbrowser from one project. to the content browser in another project.
Something like "select content, press macro, select content browser from other project (with the folder selected to which the content needs to move), macro copies the uassets to the right content folder
it wouldn't be a macro, it'd be an editor extension
this is what the migrate functionality does already though - what's the difference?
could be a macro.
it could just "show in explorer, copy the files there, then open in explorer in other project, paste, done
because I want it to be faster, and not always adhere to the old folder structure
i want it to be one/two clicks and done.
not copy anything referenced by/to the content
just move what i selected
would save me a shitload of time
nudging @lethal adder just in case.
you're doing work like that for more than double like you posted earlier? ๐
yes
hes very good at copy paste
the amount of time I have to spend constantly moving mat functions, textures, materials around into clients projects is insane. so I would like to reduce that by shitloads
do you bill it as "transportation"?
Lol
i hate that work which doesnt feel like work
still saves more time than having to recreate said materials or functions, or generic effect setups
could save even more with a macro-tool-thingy
you could make some python script or something
why not make a "parent" project that holds all your materials and mat functions
and use the migrate option to move stuff?
I have that, but I have yet to meet two clients who have an identical folder structure.
I wouldnt be asking this if I didnt think it was worth my money to get made
also, the difference between one macro-key press and maybe one additional mouse-press vs the whole migration stuff will be hours over the course of a project.

[UNPAID] Looking for animator and/or blueprint type of developer intrested to join me and my friends project that is in a start and we are not that professional, the game we are trying to pursue is csgo type of zombie game that is in iraq and syria and the zombies are ISIS and the good guys are iraq forces. PM me if you are intrested
@lilac walrus @pastel estuary that's such a weird website. i don't necessarily think most of those things should factor in to a rate.
speaking of, though, i do have a vfx position i'm working on, pretty immediate need, long term 6+ months, $27 USD/hr
@wraith osprey that sounds like pretty tacky storyline. I guess it's perfect for gaming ๐
yeah we are trying to achieve something different
the twist should be that neither side are the good guys. Then it would be closer to factual :p
yes
yeah true but i havent seen such game so its a good opportunity and near my original idea
well people do like war games.
ofc, they cant kill people for fun in real life

@wraith osprey of course they can. They can sign up to join the army.
That's definitely the fastest way to be screened out of the military
@wraith osprey Are you located in Iraq?
why would you want to though? Its a completely fabricated war of terror to keep the military industrial complex ticking over
fight the banks, that is the real way to win the war.
erm... now I understand. You are mentally abused into religion :p
I was raised into religion. Until I learned to think for myself. Now religion makes me angry

you cant do specific things you would want but thats fine
you seem rather undecided on things
I live life as a good person, I dont need a religion to make me be a good person. I also dont need it to validate my existence after death. Im lucky I guess.
Hmm, I'd reconsider that position. There's no glory in war. And it would be sad to see someone waste their talent and life in such a conflict. Granted I understand you have ties to the country, but you have a real opportunity to do something that many others in Iraq don't have
You know I have been angry at the neo-conservatives who started the war on Iraq for a long time. Right back to Bush Sr. when he first sent my brother to war.
think about it, your going to war to end terrorism and save human lives, couple kills would avoid multiple innocent kills by that man
end terrorism? It's creating it
isis is falling but it will rise up again because an idea cant be erased
its like two different people
it will rise up again because the US need it to. It's all a big financial scam and power grab.
the world needs a boogeyman
Well, I don't want to be that guy, but this is probably not the channel to discuss this stuff
yeah I was thinking that mastersmith
I was also thinking your rates for your experience are cheap btw :p
add another $5 an hour
everyone delete the messages
I'd probably go even higher than +$5/hr
Well I don't have any game dev contract work under my belt, so it would be nice to build up some references
ahh fair enough. One thing I learned early on from web development though is never sell yourself short. You do a technical job. You should be paid in relation to that
I do cheap work to get portfolio stuff done or to help friends, sometimes free work, but if I am selling my services, I rate my fees accordingly. No shame in asking for what you are worth
Yeeeeeeup, I don't want to talk about it too much, but I've had a hard time recently with two clients squeezing me in the web dev field. They have this strange notion that if there is no frontend work being done, then nothing is being done.
yeah I quit webdev after 15 years of being treated like a scapegoat, not paid on time, not paid at all and then Steve Jobs robbed me of my Flash career. So fuck webdev :p
Well I don't think there's much value in discussing further- you don't gotta be coaxed into charging more than min wage, so that's nice.
What's minimum wage where you are at?
in the UK its ยฃ7.80 an hour I think. I dunno I haven't earned min wage for a while
Woah, that's surprisingly low for both of you
It's $10 here, but that's California for you
I wouldn't work for less than ยฃ15/h unless I was super desperate
but ยฃ25 is my usual rate
Somewhat similar numbers here, been bumping over time and will be trying that again when I try to land another contract
For a while I wasn't but a friend convinced me to try that
yeah always send it in the right direction. I will add to it over time too. Im not losing skills, im gaining them every day ๐
I've had some people turn my rate down, but I haven't been out of work, so
ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
the people who cant afford to pay a programmer what they are worth are unlikely to be the type of client a programmer should work for.
Most times, people will jump at rates lower than what you're worth- you'll hardly ever hear directly you're too low
so I figure if you're not hearing "that's too much" some of the time, you can bump up
Guys, honestly, not trying to be rude, but no one is gonna be able to find any jobs here if you are gonna talk freely like this lol
sorry did we bump you off screen? :p
- the auto pin thing is not working
I was gonna point to the description of the channel which used to say something about discussion on jobs... but that seems to be missing.
Fair point though
yeah technically we are on topic now we are talking wages
You guys brought up some good points, thanks. Also, I'll stop pushing everyone's postings into oblivion ha
someone really should slap @tawny kayak into fixing the pinned messages though
I'm sure we all, especially Victor, appreciate how hard running a community is
Jeez
What happened here
<@&213101288538374145>
Well, pinned message complaining is one thing...
But would like to know why mods aren't policing the channels more. If they are too busy, need a change of guard.
Besides some minor off topic talk, I think our discussion was relevant for the channel
There definitely was some off topic talk, but it'd be nice to know if the more on topic discussion is considered "clogging"
TBH, I would like to see this channel split into three channels: One for Paid Jobs (Both LFM/LFG), One for Unpaid (LFM/LFG) and one general disscussion about job industry. It would clean up the place a lot more.
Or One for Paid/Unpaid LFW and One for Paid/Unpaid LFG, like on the fourms.
I think that's a good idea
@kindred mason Unreal Engine's forum does it like that ^^
[CONTRACT] [PAID]

?? Showing favortism @opal cloak tsk tsk
Obviously
๐
;)
Serious though, at least pin the guys who literally just posted today. Although, pretty sure there's plenty back there.
@kindred mason Is the bot broken?
Been broken for a few months
And mods...well...don't do what they should be doing ๐ญ
ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
If the issue is the number of mods, then the easiest solution is to get more volunteers. If the issue is lack of activity from mods, due to them being busy with their own lives (which is completely understandable BTW), then the solution is to switch them out for more active ones that can properly moderate the server.
I think the issue for pins in particular is the bot not working (for whatever reason)
Not sure if Unrealbot is open for PRs (or being maintained at all), but I haven't seen anything from Nick about it
Aye, the issue in this channel are the pins mainly due to the bot not working.
fair enough if something came up but it'd have been better to revert changes to Unrealbot's live version until you could finish
cause the reason its not working (AFAIK) is because it was being moved to a new system for dealing with jobs

sadly ^ is unpaid. would love to do vfx/generalist/shader stuff for a game like that.
@vernal wolf I also could use a pair of human hands for like running and stuffs...
maybe we can pool money?
crowd fund an artist? XD
I used to need hands actually ๐ค. I ended up living without them though lol
Ayeeee lets all come together and crowdsource some arms I can totally re-sell
I mean, we could all pitch in a dollar or so to hire someone to make them
and then sell them on the unity and unreal marketplace
and split the profits

Guys are thinking about it all wrong for the current modern way to manipulate markets.
First you release a hand. Not just any hand, a left hand.
See then you get fat off of those profits for about a month, listening to all the little whiny babies complain about how there's no right-hand and how this would be so much better for there was a right-hand to go along with it.
So you oblige and you make a right hand.
And then you get fat off of those profits for a month all the while listening to all the whiny people again complain about how there's no arms to support these hands what are they going to do with just hands? If only people knew how to do their own work anymore....
So then you get a brilliant idea and go back and make an arm but it's just a single arm.
See making both arms at the same time that would just be too much so you're going to have to release these in stages.
Don't forget the arm hair DLC.
Don't forget the double jointed pack.
And of course you don't want to be accused of being a racist or a bigot so don't forget to include at least eight different variations of color skin.
And skinny and fat arms so you don't get yelled at by women and subsequently men.
And then we can sell the nail extensions pack.
If there's anything I missed and you try to produce an I'll sue you in perpetuity โข
All that is just one limb type. You can do it all again with different hand structures, and arm lengths.
That time the point flew right over your head

Hi there! I'm looking for a team that would like to work on a project that I have been working on in my free time for almost 1.5 years now.
To keep the project description short: its a third person, multiplayer only (for now), shooter that combines an Ability system with a shooter aspect. I like to think of it like a cross between Destiny and CS:GO. Everyone starts the same, then throughout the match, they earn cash to spend on better weapons, Outfits, and Abilities.
Here are the features of the project currently:
-Fully functional gameplay prototype using a bunch of free assets
-Functioning (although untested on the masses) online backend service (accounts/login system, friends lists, parties, notifications, etc)
-Self-updating launcher/installer that checks for automatic updates
Gametypes Implemented:
-Deathmatch
-Team Deathmatch
-Reactor Raid (Search and Destroy)
-Guardian Control (MOBA/Domination Hybrid)
Here's a video showing off a final round of my Search and Destroy gametype called Reactor Raid, me playing against AI: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aEuwziVxP4
I'm really looking for any type of artists (concept/2D/3D) to join up to work in their free time but if you really want to design some abilities or can program/blueprint, drop me a message! I want this to be a community driven game, just like CS:GO.
Unfortunately, I have to start this off unpaid. But if anything comes from this project this can always change!
If interested, just send me a DM on here! Thanks!
Gameplay for a final round of Reactor Raid in my game I created for a school project.

We're looking for a group or individual who can produce high quality enviroment object packs including buildings, props and foliage.
The game will be a first person shooter, produced by a small indie team on a very tight budget.
Each pack will make up 1 level, the size of each level to fill will be 505 x 505, we will require a minimum of 10 packs, so this will lead to ongoing work.
In the near future we will also require weapons, characters and animations.
A fixed fee per level, although this is a paid job, we can't pay much, so you won't be able to retire through us just yet ๐
If interested please DM myself, thanks for reading.

Hey guys, thinking about applying to a job on the epic website, but it says to include a sample. I have got a little indie game i've been working on, but it looks pretty barebones, although the functionality is there! Also, the website just has space for a CV and for Sample work, should I add a cover letter into my CV?
I've pretty much never submitted a sample to anyone, heh
I gave my doctor some samples though.. ๐ค

Hey @real pasture
Hi
Check your PMs @real pasture
[ROYALTY]
Hello, we are looking for a 2D game artist who can create Few Game assets & UI Elements (with animations) for us.
DM me for further details ๐
I am looking for a programmer who would be willing to collaborate with me. Or heck even spend just a few minutes with me to help me with my project.
Heck, maybe in return even I might even create an art asset for you in return depending on what you want in return
Hey whatever happened to that game you were working on awhile ago? This isn't that same project, is it?
same project for me, I am in need of help
Just a question for anyone posting for a programmer, mind elaborating on what their job should be? A c++ editor plugin programmer requires a completely different skillset than let's say a blueprint UMG/UI programmer ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
Basically should do the same for any position
@real pasture probably doesn't care C++ vs BP at this point - even someone stapling together MP packs would prolly work ;)
Agreed, but usually when they ask for artists they at least (usually) tell you 2D or 3D ๐
I was merely trying to raise awareness for the fact that there is a huge variaty in what programmers do. But yeah, the general rule applies, try and be specific, it makes it a lot easier for possible canidates
hello. well basically I need help with action input mappings in blueprints, and ai, and helping to create upgrade system, and dismemberment, and game modes
I have a lot of stuff already, but the projects blueprints are broken at the moment, some stuff is disconnected or not connected properly.
I am watching youtube videos at the moment trying to get answers to my own questions
but it would be nice to collaborate with someone
YT tuts are probably enough to fix broken connections, but yeah you'll need someone to come in and glue together any incomplete functionality
Project BP only at this point?
If I could get help with just fixing some disconnected stuff, and possibly action mappings for my controls that would be nice.
I do see in the blurprints you right click and choose action event/input and choose one of the mappings you created in iput of the project settings
so I will try that
[UNPAID] or [CONTRACT]
Looking for someone who can make rigged & animated models and textures and (in the best case) also lighting, post-process effects and particles fx, all to make a "cartoon" style game.
The project: top-down arena shoot-em-up single player in a fantasy theme with RPG elements
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2N2770zcTAk&index=9&list=PLp0Hn1zh4vFO2z4IqJnseFgx3YFk29XqQ
It does not seems a good idea to scale mobs by level :) also something is definitely wrong with mobs movement...

yeah
@tawny kayak Can't you quickly fix the Bot to listen to this channel again?
For what it's worth, I know how to work with the DiscordJS and DisordPY library for programming with bots. If all you need is somebody to do a pull request or whatever to fix the bot then I can do it. Just let me know where/how to help.
You're so specific when it comes to 3d, yet not when it comes to c++ ๐ Please see my note before, and atleast explain whether it's plugin (runtime (for example custom BP nodes)/editor), gameplay or something else ^^ It's so hard to skim over programming job adverts for me personally if people don't list these things ๐
^
And you're asking for people to be motivated by something else than money
but not saying anything about the project
Also, a tip for unpaid projects: State what you already did.
What are they to be motivated about, then? Your profile picture? ;3
I've seen so dang many idea guys (and worked with way too many) that I will turn down nearly every unpaid project simply due to the high probability of it being an idea guy. Not saying your project is, but it really does help if you have a showcase of A. more than 1 image, and B. stuff you already did (mainly on the gameplay side of things)
(sorry to be so negative, I've just had way too many bad experiences in the past ๐ )
^
why do people talk in here? I just posted here yesterday, and I cant find my post from all the messages here
It's pinned :)
^
We talk in here to give people feedback
And to discuss things about work
As is defined in the channel topic
@untold granite thanks for the feedback! I will change our text and state what is already done.
But what do you mean with the plugin part?
he means what kind of c++ programmer you need
people rarely do everything
someone focuses on gameplay code, someone does networking, other person does tools and pipeline
I thought I explained the gameplay part pretty well.
so you need a single c++ programmer to code everything for a game?...
I think we'll finish the prototype first, and make a video of it.
anyway, just pointing out that someone might be really interested in working on gameplay code, and have no interest on working on "everything", which includes things like GUI and low level engine changes. So it's for everyones good to explain what kind of programming skills are required and what is done already
Have you read the part above the image?
yeah descriptrion of some generic gameplay features
I'm talking about this:
"ue4 c++ programmer"
Ho sorry @ocean harbor my internet glitched out so I didnt saw your messages. I was just talking without seeing your messages
Thanks for the tips! Really appreciate it.
Just add
ue4 C++ gameplay programmer
UMG UI programmer (unless you require slate)
person who can use ue4 persona
person who can use ue4 cascade
ue4 shader/tech artist
^ all of these can be the same person```
LOOKING FOR TEAM MEMBERS
This project (unnamed yet) is a low poly styled multiplayer tactical shooter. This game straves to a semi realistic military game. There are two teams and one objective. The terrorists wants to defend the objective, but the military wants to attack it. The map is quite large but each round there is a different objective in the same map. The attackers can scout the map with an airplane to search for the objective and the defenders can build up their defense with physically items moved with a truck (there is no item spawning). As a player, you can unlock different classes, weapons and gear. There is much more in the yet undetailed GDDโฌ๏ธ.
Interested? Join the discord server to have acces to our full GDD (nothing final, we are busy reworking it).
*Discord server: *
Searching for a motivated:
- 3D artist for most of the assets
- 3D artist for the characters (can be the same person as mentioned above)
- ue4 c++ gameplay programmer
- ue4 c++ network programmer
- ue4 c++ basic mechanic programmer
- ue4 c++ vehicle programmer
- 3D animator
there is already a team, but we are searching for people to expand it
[IMPORTANT NOTE: This project is not paid, it may be in the future (depends on different things such as patreon and the kickstarter). But money shouldn'tbe your main motivation]
[style we are going for]
[art of our 2D designer, showing off what he is capable off]
@opal cloak re- formulated it and deleted my old post, can you pin it again?
@untold granite looks better now? (I know that I still haven't included any gameplay footage)
Way better ๐ ๐
@-๏ผฑ๏ผต๏ผฅ๏ผญ๏ผก๏ผฎ-#5143 cheers! Gets less people triggered ๐
(sorry for getting triggered ๐ It's just that I like to keep an eye out for interesting opportunities but it can be hard at times ^^)
I normally apply to them anyway
ue4 C++ position? Sign me up!
I signed up to be a gameplay programmer, but right now I'm working on UI. ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
Should prolly specialize at some point
When I started, I was doing far more of the projects I was on
Nothing wrong with being narrow though- but I do find that I'm able to get more work when I'm willing to create a role somewhere.
Imho it's great to be involved in all aspects as everything is important. Tools that artist use can have significant effect on what and how you code down the line
But at the same time, it can get overwhelming when it's your task to code everything without good technical lead.
- over years you build up a certain code base/experience that can help pushing one area way faster than doing research from scratch
Like with AI or physics
@vale shadow Looks amazing dude, I'd want to join you but I don't know C++
@granite brook @opal cloak Sorry. I should've left the old bot behavior functional while I work on the new behavior.
I would do it today, but I'm very close to done with the new behavior at this point.
Sure.
