@hidden jetty
it's more trying to get the blueprints to work
Hello I'm currently seeking Animators and Programmers along with other team members for our Project please check out our information below and our GDM.

https://forums.unrealengine.com/showthread.php?142309-Game-Project-as-Per-Everyone-Else.
@nimble halo tried that he just wasting time
Asking him for specifics and I get sarcasm great way to recruit potential clients. He wanted me to give him a price but won't tell me what it is he wants me to do . Makes a lot of sense lol
:/
Unless he wanted a general hourly rate, that's pretty bad.
Also, UE4 does not require the use of BP whatsoever.
Hello, a pro fps player several years in Battlefield and another game I can't mention due to lack of contests. I'm a blueprint scripter but I can write my own plugins for more scripts. I have absolutely no experience annnd this is what I want to do.
I would be interested in prototyping boss fighting (with some creative content control)
-creative content control would be... I have this boss already so in my prototype I would give this feedback... he needs to be able to perform these attacks visually and/or his minions would look like this they intend to do this... or affect on players that does this...
and arena? (with enough "balance control" and that it would be a skill based team vs team event)
-this is not something I'd really like to talk about but the balance control would assume players would not be limited from developing their character in anyway and they have enough options to dynamically put together serveral viable different options within their team composition. The balance control would be limited to time, attack and defense, or control point, map layout things that would be abstract game logic not limited to those things mentioned.
pls message me maybe we can do an NDA thing just don't be too yeah please just standard interview topics not related to experience or anything I've divulged any further without NDA. I'm looking for a team and project that needs help and is growing.
@hidden jetty Yeah I wouldn't bother either - I tried too
Took me hours to.figure out what he needed :p
Any experienced map designers or 3D modellers here looking for work? Also looking for texture artists. Estimated map size needed 80-150km2
@left cliff Look at the pins, it'll give you a better idea of how to make a post on here
80-150km2? holy shit
His period key must be broken
[ROYALTY] Hey guys im still looking for people to work with me to launch my next title. I need someone who is extremely comfortable with UE4 BP's. and or C++. You will have a royalty in the game that we can sign up for and discuss. My last game has sold over 20,000 steam copies and im very serious about this next game and growing a studio with some good partners. Please message me if interested. I will need to see previous work. Cheers, Rich!
80-150 km² isn't THAT large Allar 😛
Sorry? The entirety of NY is 140km^2
NY?
depends entirely on map, desert would be rather easy to spruce up, but enough with clogging up the jobs channel with unrelated stuff
You're talking one of the biggest game spaces of all time
It dwarfs even 'empty' maps like ARMA 3
It's a snip over 100km^2 (I work for Bohemia)
nice
Lol, I was thinking the same, 150 is HUGE
But yeah, I did a 3*4km map for.Ark this month and it's taken me about 100-120 hours so far, even though it's entirely outside and I was totally reliant on procedural tools
in the end it boils down to the type of environment I suppose
true, but it's a huge map 😉
12*12 would be a full time job for me for six months or so, and even then it would be repetitive and sparse (not worth playing, IMHO)
^ i doubt you really need that large of a map too, like 4x4 is HUGE already, no matter which kind of environments really
Considered procedural generation? It won't give you the same result, but 12x12 is gonna cost a heck of a lot of time ^^
I don't think you can do it anyway. There are technical problems you won't be able.to get around (32 bit coordinates for one). You'd need a specialist engine.
I have a 16km * 16km test map and it seems to run fine with world composition + origin shifting enabled
What do you do at Bohemia @lilac walrus if I dont mind asking?
I'm looking for character rigger
If you're interested, PM me for more detail.
Cheers
@odd mulch - moving between zones is no problem. Interaction between objects that are tank-gun range apart on the other hand is something else. You might be origin shifting and everything feels fine, but a target 8km away is still 8km away
@wet sail - I'm a technical game designer
The other problem with a tank sim on open ground is their speed; at 12km across, if.you spawn tanks equidistant from one another and the map edges, they're 4km apart. They'll cover that distance and collide with one another in 2-3 minutes
Do WW1 tanks - 2x2km would be more than enough 😄
[PAID] Need someone to help me fix my Crash Report Client
@wet sail Free advise, did you install the debug symbols for the engine?
@odd mulch IRL modern tank's effective firing range is between 2 and 4 kilometers. Artillery with the longest ranges have about 60km of maximum range (AKA not effective. Maximum). Trust me, you won't need a map the size of the state of New York. Try and start small. Expand your map on the long run if need be
[UNPAID] Looking for a 3D Artist (environment, probably, rather than character) to join me in a portfolio prototype project. When it's feature-complete, I plan to pass it around amongst friends and gauge if it's fun/interesting enough to be worth trying to polish out further as a sellable game (maybe go the route of the usual patreon/kickstarter). Worst case scenario, we have a project for both of our portfolios. Best case scenario, maybe we'll eventually make like $10usd or something off the Steam store or whatever.
- Here's a clip of what I have so far (about an afternoon of effort): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jey2Tw--Oy8
- Here's a clip of the old, '90s, unknown favorite game of mine that I'm aiming to recreate (and maybe "bring back"): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FCO6R_cZcM
Compilation of top moves by the Flow squad, uniball allstars. Enjoy! Did you find the game interesing? Please check http://www.uniballhq.com ! Music Bieks - ...
@waxen torrent - modern tanks (T-14, Abrams, Leopard) have effective ranges of around 7-8km. Some artillery pieces can hit a dime at 300km.
@opal cloak Unless I have to manually download them for source, I'm pretty sure the github build includes everything
@fading yoke That's a pretty cool looking game

[Paid] Looking for an animator with a reasonable price as im not looking for anything complex
@plucky hatch I once asked a guy if he could animate 10 weapons with extreme basic animations, he said he works with indies at a very reasonable price. He wanted $6000 USD for the animations...
And I'm talking about like a draw, holster, idle, fire, etc for a gun, which honestly if you know what you're doing takes no longer than 5-10mins per animation
Lol what sounds like he tried to rip you off 😂😂😂
Or that he thought you wanted something with better quality than a 10 minute job. There are a lot people in this channel with no real idea how much time quality takes, and what it costs (not saying you don't. More a general feeling)
I mean, 10 weapons * 6 animations * 1h/animation * 100 USD/h isn't an unreasonable price if you are after good quality content, though it might be wrong to market yourself as targeting indies.
What @flat gazelle said.
i agree @flat gazelle if it was 10 minutes per animation then yeah it would be a rip off but yeah normally they take alot longer than 5-10 mins @wet tundra
cause dont forget they have to learn what does what in your rig
Yeah, I understand animations like a reload and such can take much longer, but the simplicity of the animations I requested were basically just blending between two frames
It was something that I could do myself, but I was too busy with other work to get it done
@wet tundra that makes no sense, none of the animations you mentioned would have 1-2 frames only
A simple draw, holster, idle, fire etc do not need a lot of frames
I mean a quick draw would.
draw = 7-19 frames
holster = 7-19 frames
Fire = 3-7 frames
Idle = 10 frames for smooth animation
Draw and holster are probably the least detailed and can literally be done with 1-3 frames
But my point is, even a 7 frame animation wouldnt cost nearly the amount he requested
well a 7 frame animation can take anything from 5 minutes to 20 minutes if you are really good
most people wont do extremely basic work because its not worth there time or portfolio space
Perhaps, but he came to me for the work
First or third person?
third person

The Endline will be for the 15th of August
(so get in touch just if you will be available in this timeframe)
This looks cool, blows my mind Ubisoft is requesting people here!
@shadow kelp is that with Scaleform by chance?
ahh cool. I haven't touched actionscript since UDK came to end of life. I used to really enjoy the work though
@shadow kelp Which ActionScript? 3.0 ?
surely nobody uses as2.0 anymore 😄 It was nasty.
highly useful when you wanted to code something without performance in mind though
AS3 yes
@plucky hatch AS3.0 mainly, a little Flex. Some Java and SQl useful but not required
@shadow kelp Just interested if you use UE3.5 or UE4 with scaleform integration? Or it's not about UE at all?
Oh, I see your answer to Marc_Rogerson. Nevermind
Not UE. Just asking around...not easy to find AS programmers
how long would it take for experienced C++/JS developer to learn actionscript?
Actually AS code looks very much like TypeScript aka JS with types 😃
AS3.0 is pretty easy to learn when you know OOP. It follows the rules in most cases. Flex is the same. Using both together is pretty damn powerful too
I always thought it was a shame that Apple and the browser companies killed it off in a way. HTML5 was always going to replace it but it's still a proven method of making games and apps.
I actually think Flash is more a security hole than anything
so i'm glad its mostly gone
that wasn't the faulty of flash though, more the control that loaded it
now instead of flash and Air you have html5 and electron
I used to be pretty angry about that but UMG has come a long way. I hear from Nick Darnell that it's getting a sizable overhaul in 4.17
AS is dead easy to work with
@plucky hatch pretty easy, it's not a complicated language.
Flash was necessary because the browser makers and HTML standards bodies faffed around for years. Of course you wouldn't start anything in Flash now....but there are successful Flash games out there that are still going
going strong enough to still be hiring!
not strong enough to find AS programmers to hire though
Just find a software developer then and give them a week to learn AS/Flash
Problem solved
I'll pass that on to HR...
I used to animate a lot in Flash and make interractive books, but I guess the purpose matters too @shadow kelp. Also just saying, by posting here, a lot of people will be physically limited from a response as most people do not live in Germany, let alone Düsseldorf. If physical presence is something you will not require, Can you please specify the hours per day you expect someone to work, the project (outline it, I understand you are legally bound from divulging information)
Physical presence is required. I am aware that most people here aren't in Germany. I'm assuming they will be capable of filtering out posts that are and aren't suitable for them

[Contract Rev-share] Unreal Engineer, Remote
Hello there Unreal Slackers. We are NoMoon, a newly formed company formed 6 months ago, consisting of AAA game developers from Ubisoft, Riot Games, Activision and Gameloft. The company is based in Denver, Colorado and in Bucharest, Romania.
We have 4 games currently in development, with one game in polish phase, launching next month after a successful greenlight.
We are currently looking for fill out a core position in a new project that we are kicking off in the next weeks.
This new project is a physics based first-person platformer, emphasizing on user generated content, creative level design and impulsive trial and error.
We are looking for a core member to work closely with a game director, artists, designers and other contracted short-term individuals to build the game towards Early Access.
Specifications:
- 4+ years with C++
- Minimum 1 year experience with Unreal Engine or 4+ years with Unreal Engine 3
- Experience in launching at least one shipped title
- Must be able to work remote.
- Working knowledge of the content creation tools and processes involved in real-time 3D user generated content is a plus
- Highly autonomous
- Experience with one or more of the following is a plus: shader creation, rigging, camera logic, modular level design
Now something about us:
No Moon is a cross-continent operation. Working via the internet across time zones is not something we do occasionally, it is how we operate. To us, it doesn’t matter where you are or when you work, what matters is what you can do.
For more details do not hesitate to contact me: francisc[at]nomoon.io
Sometimes I wonder how people expect so much skill, while they still don't offer payment
I mean if you can build up enough royalty its like a paycheck anyhow. I'd take pay now most of the time, but if the game(s) is(are) wildly successful you get more from a royalty... So its pretty variable. That being said a lot of people take royalty as automatically better than unpaid but if the project isn't going to make money then you're introducing the politics of royalty but with no money at the end.
@hybrid phoenix - There are a lot of developers that are self-sustaining and want to be part of something bigger. We are 25 people and all are on revenue-share and we are sustainable.
But I understand your point. We are positiong ourselves in having top-notch professionals that are autonomous and do not require mentoring or a lot of delegation. This is due to the fact that we are working exclusively remotely. Cheers!
Oh, I absolutely get it from your side, too, I just see so many royalty-based jobs with really high requirements coming by that I've started to wonder if that's reasonable to do.
Depends a lot. We are open to any dialogue though.
@remote herald : is it full time?
I presume not o.O
It's flexible. We have 2 week sprints.
And 2 calls per week
We do not impose a shedule, we only have mandatory calls. We believe that the future of work is meant to revolve a greater attention to our personal lives and family, while also feeding our creative appetite on the way. This requires flexibility, autonomy and maturity in order to kill our ego and create meaningful experiences.
nicely worded, ..but can i check out any of your projects ?
nvm found it.. nice pixel art
That is exactly what I think
@digital gate Also the problem with royalty is that you have to wait a year or whatever for it: what will pay your bills/rent until then, you know?
The idea would be that you perpetually work on royalty projects and only have that problem at the start. I'm not saying that its practical or even common. But if you can predict which projects succeed and you can land a decent royalty at them it can be worth it. I'll stick to pay now, but I imagine there's at least a few people doing the royalty-only thing.
the passive income dream 😃
royalty projects are fine, just the approaches to recruiting people are kinda lame most of the time
you can see it as an investment, if you have income and some free time, why not
it's much like a game jam when you team up with unknown people
just on a larger scale
it's good to get experience on team work, get that 'shipped title' achivement unlocked finaly, you get insights into how other people run their projects
etc..
imo, you need a hook when recruiting people
paid jobs have a good and simple hook, money
also, since you're already filtering away a large amount of people by not offering payment during development, it would be better to be less demanding in requirements
- at least one shipped title is not realy necessary for a programmer
years of experience dont exactly imply a level of skill
except the skill to not get fired
you should be more inviting, you can always turn down the few people that apply
just look at some of the curret and recent stuff they did

@toxic sable why did zou release zour first game free in the first place?^^
You certainly have some reputation, and the genre is as valid as ever, just sequels can have a rough time on steam, not sure whether it applies to you or not
Hey @fathom sinew The first game was a mod for the half life source engine. We wanted to pay-it-forward to some of the great mods of our youth so we gave it away for free! I'm not worried about sequel-itis since our sequel gives us massive brand recognition as well as a very large fan base who wants a more polished experience.
We ARE charging for the second game. We are all a lot older and have families now ;)
@fathom sinew @toxic sable Source modding ftw

https://arstechnica.com/business/2017/06/konami-reportedly-blacklisting-ex-employees-across-japanese-video-game-industry/ <<=-- scumbags wow what a pack of scumbags
"Furthermore, according to the article, Konami is pressuring other companies not to hire its former employees."
Wow
Well, Japanese people are very proud. It's a deep mindset going back centuries. You usually stick to only one "boss" for your life, leaving your boss, can be seen as very disrespectful and dishonorable. You would figure that in 2017, things would be a bit different, and while I have no idea how the video game industry actually works over there (never worked there, only lived). It's probably an even worse mentatlity, especially considering the longer hours they put in comparison to other countries.
Obviously to us, that mentality seems barbaric, but to them it's commonplace. Just remember we all have our own societies and social constructs that we value and have grown up with, try to respect that. Also... someone seems a bit butthurt towards Konami, and may or may not be misleading the public.
Especially when they have such a big voice.
yeah but its not just happening in japan
its happening here too
that shit should not be tolerated by anyone working for any company
i mean threatening to sue a former employee because he/she puts the company as a line item on the resume?
Ah, I think I saw that on Linkedin or something. Threats are just that. People need to thicken up their skin a bit.
right, but if they serve you with papers thats a scarey and expensive thing
especialy while unemployed
at that point its not about having a thick skin
I think that's what makes them effective.
People who are scared of crap like that.
scared of losing all your assets?
It only takes one person with some balls to countersue and win...
i think anyone with half a brain is scared of that?
Not really.
As long as you know what you are actually dealing with.
The main issue at hand really, is ignorance.
either way if you get to the point of having to write letters that means you're shelling out money for attorneys
kanomi might very well be able to get away with this bullshit in japan because of the law there, i dont know
but if they tried to pull that on me here in the states, there would be court, and it would be super expensive for me
I am no expert in any country's laws.
😉
I just know that if it were to happen to me ever in the future, I wouldn't back down.
As long as I knew I was in the right obviously. Though, I doubt I would ever put myself in a position where I was in the wrong and had a chance to get prosecuted.
They wouldn't take it to court. It would go public here in the US by law.
And a company can't bar an employee from joining or making another company
@kindred mason i've heard similar things about non-japanese companies too
@gaunt sky Right
@boreal tulip Perhaps, but again, people are allowing these things to happen
I have management experience and I know you can't say anything that would jeopardize employment with another company.
that's freaking me out to the extent that i just fear to go work for companies
all my life
Or don't work for one?
And work for yourself
But really, if you aren't serious about a job position and the company, why apply for it in the first place?
I mean, I understand, some people are desperate and will just try something out temporary for money or whatever.
Most companies are good companies.
people working for companies are always look intimidated and chained
Hmm, that's not true.
I love working for the company I work for
I know a lot of devs who work for some big companies that are very happy
I may be wrong
You are
hope so
But that's not saying that you aren't partially correct either.
Not everyone is perfect.
Not every company is.
You just have to find your place in the world and be happy
It may not be the first job you get, it may not be the second, hell, it may take years for you to find your home. But never give up.
I work for intel, and they're very supportive of me making a game, live streaming, and every thing I do
But, don't go into a company thinking...oh, this is probably some evil company and it may not work out..
Give it a fair and honest shot.
also sometimes most despotic companies are those which employees are most eager to show their loyalty 😃
in public
Nah, you should never speak negatively towards your employer, but if you enjoy your employment why not share. I'm at work right now with enough time to type this out.
anyway, that thing from the article isn't related to japanese mentality
I don't think there is such thing as despotic company, two different department of the same company can work completely differently and on top of that be a part of corporation
this kind of generalization are no good to anyone
and Konami just as any other company or person, can do what ever they want untill dragged into court
in US it was very common to sign non-compete aggreement, which as far as I know never won in court 😄
but companies still kept treatening people with that BS
@ocean harbor a couple years ago the federal court deemed non compete agreements illegal and made several tech companies pay like apple and microsoft
@gaunt sky I've just checked in parallel, it seam that they are illegal in CA, in other states they can work but have to be very "soft". Like you can't forbid someone from working for 5 years
and how much money do you need to take company like that to the court?
in most of EU they are illigal, didn't stop employers to hand over those
none if you win
right, and what they did is have no compete agreements inside other companies. Meaning Microsoft could not hire an Apple employee
it's not you who goes to court but them
@gaunt sky I don't think such thing exist in large scale, maybe as individiual agreement between specific HR firms
@gaunt sky i've heard about that
CEOs change, do you really think that they have a list of employees they won't hire because someone else asked them not too?
I see quite the opposite - Google hiring students who get internship in IBM for example
Papa Johns has the same thing
@ocean harbor heard exactly about that 😃
both Microsoft and Apple are international corporations, what happens in Dallas office has nothing to do with office in London
Correct
there are blacklists, but for a very different cases - people who where stealing or leaking data but wheren't dragged into a court
but not about MS or Apple just local offices of other international companies
but who will decide to put someone in blacklist...
No it was mainly California Oregon and Washington sites
Where headquarters are
It stalled wages for programmers in the company to keep labor costs down
Because no one else would hire you if you wanted to switch
that is very hard to believe, taking into account that everyone is slooking for talent all the time
Let me find the article
I'm sure there are individual cases, what I mean is that this is not a rule which you can apply to whole industry
but biggest chunk of work don't require any talent and just need to be done and they need people mostly just for this
Well, I work for IBM and we have people from Google and some left to work for Google. So not sure to which employees this actually applies
Not sure, and it wasn't all tech companies
Article even says that main motive to settle is to avoid court cost
415 million to avoid court costs?
let me quote it
I know what it says, I don't think that's why
"After three other companies settled in 2013, the four remaining companies tried to avoid a potentially costly and drawn-out trial last May by agreeing to pay $324.5 million to the plaintiffs in a settlement offer. "
"I would be very pleased if your recruiting department would stop doing this," - perfecly normal thing to ask btw
well, 65000 employess - that looks bad 😄
Lol
Some of the evidence in the case focused on emails sent between executives at the named companies that allegedly detail the conspiracy.
yeah I see that thing 😄
Lol
welp, count me as convinced!
If it goes to court, those emails go to public record, any one can read it
0.0064307692307692 - that's how much per person they've got
so 6.5k
sounds rather cheap
Now I need to make some chips
make me some too
Is this seriously the case?
Because I actually told a company I wouldn't sign a contract with a non-compete in it, and they got rid of it 😛
But if I actually would've had legal grounds, that'd have made the situation a lot easier
Just checked, seems like, for the most part, non-competes are a big grey area where I live
And if they end up being a problem you can go to court over them and odds are big you'll win the case
@hybrid phoenix the idea is rather simple, they can write there whatever they want. Like you will give away your first-born to them. But any agreement that brakes constituion/federal/state law won't have a power
by EU law, no-one can take away your right to work and this is derived from constitution of main members
but for sure, if you ask them to remove it then it's much better as there will be no grounds for a case
because the fact that non-compete is illegal in most cases doesn't mean that they can't try to sue you if they want
friend of mine has a funny term in contract, where company states that they have ownership rights to everything he makes, including at off-work hours
basically his music, paintings and pasta that he cooks 😄
o.
o.O*
"Oh, by the way, that food you ate yesterday at home, that was ours, so we want compensation for that or we'll be suing you."
yeah - it doesn't really mean much, they would have to prove that him cooking pasta and selling it in free time somehow went cross with company interests
😄
they are just trying to be cautious - like maybe you've consulted someone and that helped them to make some good profit, if company can prove that this harmed them or consultation was based on knowledge/expertise acquired during employment then you might get into trouble
they can do it without agreement too btw
this is so common that should be clarified by everyone 😃
it's a good idea to check with your employer when you publish articles or tutorials
not everyone would be happy that you are sharing information for free
anyway, turning this into monologue again
are there still companies that fear that you might be revealing their precious corporate working techniques or something?
well, today it's even more problematic than 10 years ago
not talking about technologies just techniquies
for sure, just sharing what works with what can give someone a good lead
like providing tips on how to make specific key-value store and index search work nicely together can save weeks of research
That's what NDAs are for @boreal tulip Nearly every company makes you sign one as terms of your employment. Some things are un pattenable or uncopyrightable. So in this sense non disclosure is all they have to protect trade secrets or product leaks
@gaunt sky I'm talking about things which perhaps now hard to understand with these tons of free youtube tutorials, but back in some 2005 you could learn only from experienced people in working studios
Now theres all the Youtube videos and theres probabaly an app for that
That's true. For the most part, you would only have to sign one if they paid for your training. I remember in high school we had group sessions after school to learn unreal engine. That was back in 2005 though
thats nice, but some people had to learn only from trial and error 😃
I like your style
@peak pivot You should check the pinned messages and then repost your message
@sour mist Thanks for the heads up. Updated
Also, - Experience in launching at least one shipped title sounds a bit weird after you said you dont have any shipped titles yet ~just saying
You need to make it bold and repost the message
**[ROYALTY]**
[ROYALTY] Hey Everyone,
We are No Moon, a newly formed company - established 6 months ago, consisting of former AAA game developers from Ubisoft, Riot Games, Activision, and Gameloft. The company is based in Denver, Colorado and Bucharest, Romania.
We have 4 games currently in development, with one game in polish phase, launching next month after a successful Greenlight.
We are currently looking to fill out a core position in a new project that we are kicking off in the next weeks. This new project is a physics based first-person platformer, with an emphasis on user generated content, creative level design, and impulsive trial and error.
We are looking for an experienced engineer to work closely with the game director, artists, designers to build the game towards Early Access.
The ideal candidate:
- 3+ years with C++
About us:
No Moon is a cross-continent operation. We believe in supporting passionate game developers to do what they do best. We work with talented people across the entire world, to produce high quality, meaningful experiences. To us, it doesn’t matter where you are or when you work, it matters what you can do.
For more details shoot me an email: evan@nomoon.io
Now he likes you xD
@sour mist Thanks :). Well, everyone on our team has shipped titles before, not with this current company, but that's because it's new.
Oh ok then :P
Since I'm a broke loser, I wonder if it makes any sense to try and hire people on a very small salary (like $100 per month) and then a smaller revenue-sharing percentage as opposed to just offering nothing until release and then revenue sharing after it's released.
Offer a profit share or royalty
That's what I'm doing until we have something to show for kickstarter
@fading yoke it does. This is what my company does www.underflowstudios.com
everyone I contract with gets paid per milestone and then a percentage of the profits per title.
That's a really good idea, actually -- map everything out in detail and then pay people when the milestones are reached.
I'd definitely take that over larger royalties anytime
yup and it keeps myself and the contractors in a good relationship. The second the business starts to effect friendships the business has failed.
and in the games industry if you can't work with your friends (or work with people who then become friends) then it's going to be painful.
@wheat hinge To follow up on this -- how exactly do you map out and plan where those milestones are in the project? Because when I think more about it, I could see people being upset about adding extra stuff to a milestone so that it gets even further and further away. Sort of like constantly moving the goal posts.
I imagine that in order to pull this method off, you would have to painstakingly work out your design document and whatnot far more than what I see everybody else doing when I check out projects that are looking for people.
If you've already finished or shipped a thing using that method, I would love to look at one of your design documents so I can see how it's done exactly if you'd be cool with that.
You don't add things to a milestone in Agile/scrum
Not usually anyway.
You do your sprint/milestone backlog first and then add those to your milestone.
Sexy Burndown charts are sexy....
We don't add anything to milestones.
the milestones only include the basics of what we need to ship. the royalty is there to say hey, if you make it better it will be more profitable thus...
and yes exactly, anything that we ABSOLUTELY need gets talked about in more milestones.
and as we add more milestones we have additional contracts drafted (super easy we have a template) that state they get more royalities as well as time goes on.
So overall the more you do, the more you complete, the more you add to the game the more money you make overall from direct pay and from continued royality support.
It may also be important to note that Underflow isn't a full time job for me and I don't recommend it as a full time job to my contractors. I am employed at Puny Human as well who is awesome and lets me run my own studio and do my own things while I work with them remotely. 😄
Also the only reason I don't recommend it as full time is because finicially I don't think you would get as much as you would want.
but I do have like somone in sweden who does it basically 8 hours or more a day.
but sweden you know 😄
Hey, is it ok to post here "i need a team" post for my hobby-project? (the project is not a commercial one, just for self-learning, so I'm looking for other devs who's want to learn UE4 or maybe just interested in my project)
You can sure try 😃 You'll probably want to use the **[UNPAID]** prefix.

@deft trench Just as some critical feedback:
"we are happy to say that our game is not going to sit in Early Access for a years like current games. We are expecting to remove the EA title after a few months after launch up to a year."
- Most games there for years do not actually intend to be there for years
- You've got no way at all to be sure about that you won't, besides the desire, but desire doesn't always cut it, sadly
(Not to mention that it comes across as a bit arrogant to me)
//rant over
Dont know how it comes across arrogant, must be the heat getting to you, go have a cold drink 😃
@hybrid phoenix I changed the statement
It came across as arrogant as it seemed like "While they're all stuck in EA, we're doing this"
Didnt say all at all
Though I have to admit, I've got some bad experiences with people who said stuff like that
So there may be some prejudice there
(Some major prejudice, to be honest)
Cool.
I don't blame you @hybrid phoenix, the post has quite the "ideas guy" vibe which is typical of projects that don't progress. It's common occurrence in the modding scene
I'm also gonna give some critical feedback, another open world survival game? What makes YOUR game unique?
Compared to others of the same genre?
how many end up making it to release? I can only think of Don't Starve
7 days to die has a large following. H1Z1: Just Survive. DayZ had a large following. Arma mod community. There's plenty that are commonly accepted.
The thing that I think makes my game unique is.... im not telling until its done lol im not doing another no mans sky situtation
Thanks everyone for the confidence in me.
@deft trench lol
@fallen cosmos Miscreated
7 Days to Die
H1Z1: JS & KOTK
DayZ
Conan Exiles
Ark Survival
The Forest
Contagion
Hurtworld
Survivalist
Primal Carnage
Wolfenstein
Arizona Sunshine
Dead Rising
State of Decay
list goes on
@kindred mason Thanks for not joining the bandwagon of hate and non confidence towards indies
Well like half of those are still EA, no?
Not really in on the conversation, just an observation :p
Doesnt make them not successful
Why do you want to make another survival game when that market is already so saturated?
I want to take a different side to survival
Yes its zombies, the game name is PatientZ: Survivalist however the ideas i have are fantastic if i can pull it off
If I had a dollar for everytime I heard a designer say "If we can pull it off" I wouldn't be watching the Jobs board haha
@ionic rose which genre is not currently saturated and guarantees me 💵 ?
Strategy
why not?
That is so niche. It's not even funny.
And I AM a strategy fan.
XCOM fan since 1994
So hit a niche market that never releases anything consistantly?
X-COM
is that not $$
? There are plenty of strategy games that release every year.
Indie and AAA
Anyway, kind of derailing the channel a bit.
yea most of them are just games of the series, such as X-COM
Any genre can make you money if you have enough customers interested in it.
And the sad fact is.... Freaking zombies...
My comment was mainly based on there being so many survival games released recently
strat games are more over sat than survival
People love zombies.
Guys help me.. I read this as the jobs channel .. am in the wrong place ?
@wet tundra not good ones
What defines good dirt.
Something that is good to you may not be good to others.
Everyone has opinoins.
when you look at your list of survival games, most people would consider those games relatively good in most aspects
the same can not be said for recently released strategy games
And why not?
@deft trench @ionic rose can you continue this discussion in the lounge 😃 ?
@deft trench I was talking about survival games that get out of early access, it was more just out of interest
didnt really have a whole lot to do with your game, it just made me think
probably because strategies are too bound to PC
I mean halo wars 2 recently came out and that-- nvm that's an RTS
Let me fix it then.. RT"S"
haha
😛
@plucky hatch @Jordan#6736 Yo, we got an automated system to pin messages. Please read the currently first pinned post and format your post like this next time.
Sorry that i didnt put it in "bold"

Hey fellow members of Unreal Slackers.
My name is Jordan, I am looking for people to help bring a game to life.
About the project
We are a team of 4 and we are looking on expanding. Because we are a team of 4 there is a limitation on what we can do. This game is going to be changed as we go down the line. We also understand that the community especially the survival community really dislike the Early Access title so we will try our best to produce the game at a steady and stable rate, updating frequently and fixing issues quickly.
We are gamers ourselves. Listening to what people have to say about these types of games is worrying because this community is hard to get into as there is strict guidelines on what people want.
Game Information
PatientZ: Survivalist is an online, open-world, post-apocalyptic, survival game proudly powered by Unreal Engine.
It all began after a plane crashed, inside was a nuclear bomb. It killed thousands upon thousands of people... However, later that day police forces received reports that the people who died started to move again. The virus spread and infected everyone in the area. Later that day police secured Hangar 07 and they completed a head count. Some people were missing. No one knows if they jumped from the plane or ran to the nearest town. Hangar 07 is highly radioactive and should be approached only if needed with protective gear.
There survivors around the area remaining, however, you will need to be careful with your movements you never know what you are stepping on, walking past or approaching upon. Always have a friend and stick in cover.

Hello, I’m a newly game developer that have my own patreon page: https://www.patreon.com/drunknescafe
My game contains nudity/sexual content. And person hire for this game will see nudity/sexual content.
I have been working with rpg maker mv, but lately some in game bugs with the program had made me want to change game engine. And with that I have looked into unity/unreal. I myself have no experience in Unity/unreal or programing experience at all.
My plan is to move away from the normal rpg maker mv games and over to a point and click with real time render of the character and scenes in the new game engine.
As you can see how I want the GUI, it’s a normal time and date system with a natural decries of energy, hunger and hygiene for every hour.
On the left side with the blue censors over it, is an arousal or horny meter.
Bottom left side is to show what type of outfit the player has on. This will be a click on object to remove cloths. Etc. panties.
The red square will be the event or scenes what happening in the environments.
Dialoged and face to the person talking in self-explanatory.
What I want in the start of the game is a character creation event, where the player can create his own character (female) with different hair, skin, props cloths. Etc
Something similar to https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/umorph-character-creator
My models are made with Daz3d. Genesis 3 models.
So, what I’m looking for:
• High experience with Unreal 4.
• Programing experience in C++ and Blueprints.
• 3d Animation.
• Cut scenes.
• Lightning.
This will not be a product that will be done in 1-2 weeks. I’m looking for a person to make and do in game changes as I have written evens/story.
@marble iron I recommend re-reading EULA of Unreal Engine, as far as I remember they don't allow this kind of usage for their engine
yeap, its all fine actually, don't know why I thought it's restricted
😃
@ocean harbor yeah, I would have told you about the guy that is roughly $4k/month on a UE4 NSFW game from Patreon alone.

Hello everyone! My name is Harris aka. Vortex. I'm the project lead of an exciting new VR game project titled Atheneum created by the Cosmic Creations game studio. We're currently bootstrapping this project in hopes to make it available for all to enjoy. As of this moment, we're currently looking for new team members. Please read the description of the project below this message and PM me if you're interested. Thank you!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Description link: https://pastebin.com/FaXJHB0Y
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Who we're looking for
Particularly interested in:
- Developers experienced in Unreal Engine (Blueprint & C++) (Other languages are a plus!)
- 3D Modeling, Rigging & Animation
- 2D Concept Art Design
- Sound Designers
- Social Media & Online Presence Managers
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Compensation
As of this moment, we do not have monetary compensations available. We're currently just a team working on this as a passion project to bring our vision of a true VR magic game to life. I understand that many can not afford to spend such time on a large project without monetary compensation, and I'm not expecting anyone in that situation to join us.
This status may change as we approach alpha, beta and release stages of this project.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you're interested feel free to PM me to learn more and meet the team! Thank you!
who makes the money from it then?
@dreamy jacinth talking about the one above you?
aye
I already cautioned them to take care of all the financial stuff now because it will become much more of a headache later.
like a Willy Wonka contract? "You get nothing. You lose sir." 😄
Willy Wonka fed people still :P
Greetings everyone!
My name in Jonathan and i'm a newly sound designer. I really enjoy making sounds for games. You guys can take a look at my portfolio on my website https://jonathanp18.wixsite.com/mysite
I'm open to any kind of project
Cheers!
^ saw some of his stuff, he is a bit wet around his ears but I think he'll grow into a nice sound designer for sure 😃
The honesty is powerful hehe
I wonder if urinal-cake found someone for that position he put up last Friday
There are a lot of great game designers here, so I am sure it was competitive.
so just a general question, has anyone successfully done a rev-share model for a game? or knows of one?
@plucky hatch I did one to release but it made no money so I got none :/
how was that experience for you?
long and drawn out. I just wanted to finish so I could move on.
As time went on I was more skeptical. Mostly because of design choices that caused issues that were not going to get resolved before release.
could i see the game by any chance?
If I could take positives out of it, I have another shipped title for the portfolio. I also learned a few things I may not have done working on another project. As a programmer that can be profitable in itself. For example I wrote a dll that gives Unreal Engine support for TrackIR. No way I would have thought about that on my own projects.
Gameplay from CDF Starfighter VR captured in 4k at 60 fps using an oculus rift. www.cdfstarfighte r.com
that doesnt look that bad
i mean i guess the pacing is off
did it literally make 0 ?
that is a pre-release video. You are the second person I have heard talk about the pacing. First was at a VR expo we took the game to. I took it on board but I didn't do the AI or setup the ships. It hasn't made literally 0 but there were costs involved with making it. Loans, capital expenditure etc. They had to be repayed before I saw a cent.
ah okay
i dont know the sale numbers but steamspy has it around 3,000 units, give or take 1800 :/
erm 1100
I didn't really do it for the money though, which is why I lasted the full term of the development cycle. It was more to build up some work, learn a bit more about UE4 along the way and ultimately do something I enjoy
However I wouldn't take on that kind of responsibility again, because I value my time more since release
yeah i was wondering if you knew the project wasnt "good" why even stay?
since you wouldnt really have anything to lose, other than reputation
Loyalty to the project and a friend.
i see. yeah that puts you in a tough spot. i can never decide if working with friends is a good idea or a bad one
that depends on the level of honesty between you I guess. I mean if you have an issue and you cannot point it out for fear of offending them, that can be tough. Also if you are asked for advice and your advice is ignored, that can raise stress levels.
@snow yarrow can you post in the right manner?
See pinned
Just put [UNPAID] tag in it
like this?

Anyone interested in creating a sprite-template for Locomotion and several Battle Poses?
Basically I need a 2D mannequin. All I need is Locomotion in 3 Directions (Left/Right can be mirrored) and Battle Poses need to be one direction (Left/ Right)
I am working on a SNES-era inspired Action RPG and what I need is a template I can work with.
I need:
-> Basic Locomotion like Walk and Run in Four Directions
-> Basic Battle Locomotion: A simple "Sneak" Animation is enough, even 2 Frames are enough.
-> Animations for Dodge (Preferable a Roll while jumping)
-> Attack Animations for a list of Weapons
-> Recite Animation for Spells
@nova bloom this is the job channel, dont post it anywhere else.
see that as a warning
A bit of advice for programmers applying for jobs... stop underselling yourselves... $2-$8/hour is a complete joke and should defintely not be the standard to which others pay you for that particular job. Even if you are just starting out, you obviously have skills that others do not, and that others want. This applies to anyone really. This isn't Fiver 😉
Why would you even consider that haha.
Its probably more the issue that people asking for coders think thats what the job is worth
Definitely dont undersell yourself
@spice dagger I didn't. But others have and so I have been presented with these prices on some projects. It's a bit sad really. I wonder at the quality of the code in those projects.
Yeah that is sad.
I don't know what world a lot of you guys live in where you can afford to sit around and wait for someone to offer you thousands of dollars out of nowhere.
For $2 / hr I'll just go apply at all the fast food near me.
$7.50 beats $2
Obviously salary varies wildly from region to region, but I think $20/hr + is a good estimate of entry level, right? Iunno. I'd have to look it up.
I cant imagine a place that you would be living in that an highly skilled highly sought after job such as programming is only worth $2/hr
But if you're just sitting there waiting for someone to offer you thousands of dollars out of nowhereyou're doing it wrong. There's nothing out of nowhere about it.
I dont know about you but i certainly have to chase work. Its rare that it would come to me "out of no where"
And my rate changes based on what's currently happening.
If you're just sitting there at $5/hr and you've not bothered negotiating up that's your fault.
You gotta bump it up or down based on what you offer and what positions you can get.
Exactly
Luos has to work at $2/hr, right?
i wouldnt even get out of bed for 20 dollar/hour hehe
Haha i was gunna say that lol
Wow I guess I'm in need of a rate evaluation
heck, id barely get out of bed for double that
Wow ease up there id love to say $40/hr haha
depending on what you do, you can. more even if you are fast and good at what you do.
some people --even ones here on discord-- ask at least 200 dollar/hour, but they know their bleep
lol
Wow, wonder how long they were sitting around waiting for that to fall out of the sky
Yep. Having the experience pays thise bills quicker
😉
You guys seem to know an awful lot about getting Unreal contracts. How much money did you guys make last year from Unreal gigs?
its one of those things... Its hard to know what you are worth/should charge
it would be very useful if there was a standard, but each person and job is different
@fading yoke I'm pretty open with what I make from the marketplace, generally I make around $1k-$2k a month, so I generally base my rates off of that
Largest contract I've taken so far has been a flat fee for 4 weeks of work, which was $3k
Yeah all USD
I'd say I'm a generalist, but mainly focus on environmental art
I won't say what my total income was, but it's enough that I can do this full time
yeah thats all good man
its interesting to know
im lucky that I have never had to take small contract work
all my jobs have been fulltime
but i still struggle to know what I would charge
I'd like to get a full time job, but I'm not current skilled enough
I basically base it off of my time spent, if I can make say $5k over the lifetime of a product that takes me 2 weeks to make from start to finish, then I'll basically charge around that for a 4 weeks of work
Since payment is immediate rather than say over the course of a year
thats a good idea
its tricky though, it should be significantly higher than someone who is working fulltime though right?
to cover the times where you don't have work
I wouldn't say that's the case
Having a premium on your services isn't a bad thing considering that your work will reach a smaller audience and perhaps never even see the light of day in a project, but to have it too high is off putting, unless you really offer quality service
If you offer AAA quality services then your cost should be higher, but you shouldn't expect a massive payout from clients since most are just small indies/hobbies. If you're getting hired for contract work from a legit studio then you can sure charge higher
thats a good way to look at it
it goes against what the others were saying though
the talk of taking jobs for such low money
You definitely have to value yourself correctly
Undervalue is bad because it shows you don't know what your worth, and you get ripped off for your time
Over valuing is bad because you try and rip others off and shows that you don't know what you're worth
A lot of people will go the cheaper route to get more jobs, because in the long run it builds a client base, gets you references and experience, and generally more jobs
bit of a catach 22 there though
gotta have experience to get experience
i can see why people take jobs for free, or for very low money
When I say cheap I don't mean $2/h, I mean just discounts and such for certain clients
Don't do $2 please
Still won't be undervaluing yourself, but allowing yourself to be more accessible
$2/HR job was such an insult to whoever was making it
@wet tundra How many contracts is that money spread over in the past year?
Which money?
"I won't say what my total income was, but it's enough that I can do this full time" is what I'm referring to
I mostly do marketplace work
Rarely do contact work since most of the time it's not stuff I'm passionate about
@wet tundra that is a big deal too
You can't just take any contract work
If you are going to just dread working on it
Then you might as well just wait for another one to come by
That may be something you actually wouldn't mind working on
The funny thing is; all my contact work has been people coming to me based off of my marketplace work
So they want stuff similar and know my style, so it's not so bad
They like what they see... They want it for themselves ;)
Yeah exactly
Aye
Programming is a bit different than Art though
It is harder to compare, to see differences between devs.
;) Also. It is a bit fun when you're in a bid war.
are there usually people looking for blueprint game designers and such? Is that something that is in demand at all?
A game designer who can prototype things in BP would probably be able to find work. There are people who get work based primarily on BP ability rather than their skills in other roles.
There is work for prototyping in BP as @digital gate said, though its probably also important to be able to carry that through to an proper production build more focused on C++ and performance/polish after the fact. Saves them time trying to find someone else who would need to get familiar with all the prototype systems to be able to even start working forward.
All things being equal a designer who can BP > a designer who cannot
Any proper reason people don't want BPin their builds?
I think an mix of the 2 is important (others hold different opinions) but really having an C++ base can save you alot down the road.
At least offloading the more heavier/larger systems to C++ will simplify alot as well as create performance efficiency greatly.
Well, as for reasons why the bulk of the project shouldn't be BP, I can list a few.
* Can't properly use source control if that means you have to merge BP.
* As BP scales, the effort required to keep it tidy becomes ridiculous
* With massive BP, even with functions, the editor can hang and lag- when opening, moving nodes, or panning the view
* There are a mass of BP-specific bugs which can waste work and/or time.
* If you aren't mindful of how it works and treat it as a visual C++ you'll run into issues, such as with loops and logic short-circuiting
* Its really easy to corrupt the state of BP (which might fall under point 4)
* Sometimes it really is quicker/smaller to do something in C++. While it isn't always a pain to move that into C++ it can be.
* [EDITED: BONUS POINT] If you rely on plugins to extend BP functionality you tie yourself to it and it becomes a dependency.
In other words, ((BP + VictoryPlugin) < ( C++))
As for why literally NO BP should be in your project, I can list a few as well.
I'm sure I missed stuff on the top list there
@spice dagger, any more come to mind?
Performance being an big one lol
Finer control usually tips me over most of the time as well. There is just simply alot of stuff you just cant achieve with using pure blueprints.
If you are going to write an node to achieve all this stuff you may as well just rewrite it all in C++ anyway.
I have to say, there is also a little bit that is so easy and nice when working with blueprints @digital gate @spice dagger
I'm not saying no c++, but no bp is the wrong thing too
The developer for BP stuff said in the Blueprint Optimization livestream training a year or two ago that there is no significant overhead compared to CPP as long as you compartmentalize your blueprints appropriately (e.g. spread everything out amongst many graphs so that no one graph gets too big) and of course don't do complicated math stuff via nodes (but even in that case, they have the MathExpression node for those situations).
dunno, I had about 2-3x difference at least
mathEpression node can't get velocity, calculate its length, find cross product of that and derive force from it
and I wouldn't call basic Newtonian equations as something "complicated"
BPs are great and C++ is great. Using them both in combinations is great too. Trying to portray either as "the best" solution is not that great at all.
It shouldn't be a "BP vs C+"+ but "BP with C++" - it's way more productive. So far I'm really enjoying doing a prototype in BP first and then c++ implementation, if necessary. But I have time to do this.
I would stick to BPs + some custom nodes if Nativization would work for me and if BPs wouldn't get corrupted during refactoring. It happens rarely but when it happens it can waste a lot of your time. Time which could have been spent on solving problems, instead of debugging something that you don't even expect to see there.
@ocean harbor exactly
@sour mist are you serious or joking as in "nobody aint got time for dat"?
what lol @ocean harbor
@sour mist it's easier to give link than to make assay here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_refactoring
Code refactoring is the process of restructuring existing computer code—changing the factoring—without changing its external behavior. Refactoring improves nonfunctional attributes of the software. Advantages include improved code readability ...

To all 3D Developers
I am currently working on my own fps with a friend and we're looking for some 3D developers mainly ones who have experience with developing objects such as guns, the plan is to enter the game to be shown at PAX 2019, we would love for you to do some models, you'll of course be in the credits so your name will be seen in front of thousands of people for helping make this game shown at one of the biggest gaming conventions. If you have any other questions please feel free to send me a message and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
"May" be paid?
I'm not sure i've ever seen a single credits screen at any game show
I've also got my questions about actually getting on PAX, but I'll ignore that for now
Especially because it's unpaid
Paid work is assumed to be unique and original, and the person doing the work is usually obligated under contract to have the rights to the work so they can transfer it to you. While you're within rights- certainly- saying "You may be paid" is a bit off-putting. Flag your post [PAID] or [ROYALTY] or [UNPAID], but that's why you got the response you did.
Makes sense, I'll modify it now, I've just had people in the past try give me unoriginal work for money, thought I was being cautious @digital gate
nbd
@tawny kayak UnrealBot not getting updates to these? Or is that coming with the rest of the jobs updates?

[UNPAID UNTIL WE RELEASE GAME] Hello! My name is electiwirez and I am a composer. I've always been interested in starwars and games like battle front. So I thought why not make one my self? So i am looking for some people to help. So I am looking for all roles of people to help on this game. I need writers probably first to help flesh out the game. DM me if you are interested, this could go into it's own studio, and I am not looking for any leadership type position, I just want to make the game, so anyone who comes in can become leader of the project if they want. Thanks.
just to give some sort of reference it will be something like this: http://galaxyinturmoilgame.com/
@plucky hatch why not just work on galaxy in turmoil? i am sure they could another composer 😃
@plucky hatch not the best reference imho, their site is full of concept art but almost nothing on actual gameplay
Hey, folks! I live in NYC and I'm looking for other people who are working on their own projects, or anyone who is trying to meet other ue4 peeps. Just trying to make some connections or possibly collaborate. I'm having a really hard time networking in NYC for unreal for some reason. There aren't as many meetups, classes, or in-person talks as you'd think, considering how huge Unreal has become.
I'm posting this in "jobs" because I believe this is the most relevant topic. People are actively seeking projects, and that can come in many shapes. Whether indie, or big budget...
@dire ridge Eh, not really a #job appropriate post...
Also... There is a NYC Meetup last I heard.

Hmm. They totally stole the name

Hey, I'm the lead developer and owner of a group of friends trying to make a game (duh :p), and we're a bunch of newbies. I'm hoping that by the elite powers of the Unreal Slackers discord, and just luck, that I could get a few experienced hands to help out on this project, and teach us a thing or two. Any job is available, be it modeling, animating, programming, etcetera. DM me for more details if you're interested.
Damnit Lethal, you beat me to it.

People you honestly dunno how to get people to help with your game
First thing you need to write is not who you need, It's what the game is about and some info about your team will be helpful too
provide at least this basic information if you are halfway serious: https://forums.unrealengine.com/showthread.php?168-Recruitment-Template

Hey peeps. My name is Isabella and I own Pivot Business Consulting. My crew is building a game called Intern Pursuit. It is a single player tower defense game. It is an unpaid internship and we are looking to have the demo ready end of this month. Distance is cool, flex schedule, and ability to include it in your demo reel. Looking for individuals that are 3D Modelers with skills in environment, props, robots, aliens and humans. Animators, sound, rigging and programmers. If interested contacts me at ijohnston@pivotbusinessconsulting.com
Generally when you ask for unpaid interns you're going to get unskilled people, just letting you know
Also, that's a lot of role requirements, what do you offer to the team that people won't waste their time?
^
Reading both of the above job offers makes me quite confused
Someone's supposed to have contribute, for free, not even on-site, they need to be experienced as well and there's no mention of even royalties? If I had zero experience there's more attractive job offers where I get royalties 😛
(Not meaning to be a dick, just trying to understand the reasoning - lots of people don't think about job offers when posting, I used to be one of them)
is irony allowed in this channel?
or are these real offers made by real people, without the intention of being funny?
the latter, though sometimes its hard to tell
I offer unlimited puns to any situation. Including this one. It was like a job trying to find a good pun but I worked it out in the end.
@hexed verge look for my offer 😃 it's unpaid but it's for those who are learning UE4 (as well as I am)
and I think I have provided more info than "real" job offers
well i won't have access to a ue4 capable computer for the next 2 months because of traveling
ah I misread you message, I thought you're asking for real offers 😄
but your offer is sound and honest and i'm sure you'll find someone to contribute to your idea
looks like a good first project for someone to get some mileage
no one yet 😄 there was one guy who made a single commit and then vanished... Few devs who said they are interested and disapperas... Some sound guys, but I don't really know how to work with them because th project is on early stage and I'm not sure about what sounds/music it will fit...
and so on 😄
BTW how much experience do I need to get a more-less well-paid gamedev job (as a programmer)?
okay 😦
@peak wadi it generally comes down to three things getting a job:
- experience
- resume
- interview
experience and resume are what get you the interview
interview is where you prove you can do the job
when you have a small amount of experience/resume, the more likely your interview will be a practical one
where they ask you questions and most likely give you a programming test
I got my first job after 2 years of study (which included an internship)
@rotund violet Larian guy!!! Thanks for the D:OS 1/EE/2 😉
And thank you for response, I see... I've got my first programming job (in 2007) after just 3 weeks of self-learning, but it was just HTML/css coding :D
It seems everything become harder in game dev.
well it depends what you want to classify as job
what I was talking about above was in a small->medium sized studio
as a C++ gameplay programmer
all about where you set the bar
tutoring is a job, and is one of the easier ones to start off in
I'd say once you do stuff in exchange for money enough to pay a bill with it, its a job.

I'm new to the game dev community, and I am the project lead of a game called "Velocity Brawl" (still indev) that was in the Source Engine, but I'm doing some pre-production work for a game I want to do in UE4. I'm looking for some talented people who want to work on an FPS arena-style multiplayer shoot 'em up game.
[PAID] (LFW) VFX & Concept Artist - Hi all! I'm a freelance VFX and concept artist and currently have some extra time on my hands around a few contracts, if anyone is looking for VFX or concept work feel free to get in touch! Some of my public work can be found at www.adamostridge.co.uk, feel free to get in touch with any questions!
Looking for a c++ coder to get involved with my current project. Due to alot of let downs over the last year or so, I have attempted to re-build the project 4 times now. I only really know BP myself but really want to start fresh with a good mix of C++ and BP. Its alot to ask from anyone to join a project without a income which i understand. All i can say is that we are already on steam and ready to release, as long as the project is built. Parabellum Game is a modern FPS, looking to bring back a bit of freedom into gaming without all these silly micro transactions. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=880184030
This was our current stage of dev, but again due to a few people being complete let downs and leaving the project in a state, it really needs starting from fresh.
I need someone to help with backend c++, everything else i can do via BP.
If it interest's you at all contact me via PM and we can discuss more.
Thanks,
Ka0s
[UNPAID]

[HIRING][FULL-TIME][MOUNTAIN VIEW LOCAL] Hey folks, I’m posting for a friend of mine who is CTO of Divergent 3D, a company that 3D prints vehicles. They are seeking a WebGL expert to help work with their full stack developers and create some revolutionary CAD/IDE web apps. Here is the job posting: https://angel.co/divergent-3d/jobs/196156-lead-3d-engineer-webgl but if you are interested in the position, DM me and I can give you an email you can reach directly for a shortcut through the application process. They are looking for someone who can work from their HQ in Mountain View, CA. Awesome opportunity for someone who is looking to flex their 3D expertise
Apply now for Lead 3D Engineer (WebGL) job at Divergent 3D in Mountain View - Divergent 3D has developed a 3D printing solution on the cutting edge of planet-saving manufacturing. Our solution can produce complex structures that are lighter but stronger than those made with traditional approaches, dramatically reducing the environmental impact of manufacturing. Using this technology, we have built the world's first 3D printed super car, The Blade (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6Zjffs793k). We’ve also partnered with PSA Groupe (2nd largest auto manufacturer in Europe http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20160915005409/en/PSA-Group-Signs-Strategic-Partnership-Letter-Intent) to build the world's first production 3D printed car and made a splash at the LA Auto Show. By 2050 there will be 4 billion more cars in the world – we’re putting the pedal to the metal on cleaning up production. Come along for the ride.
So read through the comments and can share this. I am not an art or program person. I am in the space of HRD. The people that have worked with me are usually seniors and getting ready to graduate, graduated and only have school projects to show. I have mentors with EA that have agreed to mentor my interns and I have worked hard to give real skills they can show with a company product to say they did. My modelers have gotten jobs along with programmers. I was told about this communication channel and throwing out the opportunity. DM if interested.

[PAID] Looking for a C++ or BP programmer willing to work part time (40-50) hours a month for around $400 (this is all negotiable). This person would work on gameplay mechanics (ballistics, driving, etc.) I'm mainly looking for someone willing to work for experience or just for fun rather than the money itself. If you want to work full time, I can pay $1k a month.
Project info: The game is a heist/mafia multiplayer FPS that is pretty different from anything out there. There are three teams, each with different goals that might overlap with other teams. If you're interested in the project, please contact me. I'll be more than willing to describe it more.
Team info: Just me (programmer) and another programmer. I get AAA art from the many friends I've made in the industry. Animations are from the marketplace. Nothing too fancy.
[CONTRACT] Looking for a character animator to make a few custom animations for me. Project is briefly described in the post above. Must have a lot of experience, preferably in AAA games.
For both of the jobs listed above just contact me via discord.
I would be all over that first post if I wasn't otherwise engaged. Sounds awesome for an up and comer
@lilac walrus and gurls also, I don't discriminate
in part cuz it's hard to find decent ppl to work with
Hmmm
The problem isn't that really
The problem is finding people who want to pay you what you're worth.
Or let's say, as an employer, finding people who will not waste your time and money.
But I do agree. Finding people you are comfortable working with is hard also.
yeah, as i mentioned i used to work freelance, had some people who genuinely believed that it's possible to program a smooth game in 2 weeks
without any animations or anything provided
@steel turret hey still looking?
Oh those are fun!! I especially like the ones that then go on to blame the string of contractors that walked from hostile contracts when the game turns out to be garbage!
[NEED PRICE] Looking for a c++ dev to help me clear some errors on an existing project and to expose some more stuff to BP. Its not very easy to explain what needs to be done via this post so would be better to show via a teamviewer session or something. Various little bits to do but as someone has left we need them sorted before we move on with the project.
I can say for sure but looks like about 1 weeks work to clear them.
anyways, I need someone to make either a powerpoint or some vector graphics for a powerpoint. I will pay
@proper tiger pm'd you.

[PAID] Looking for a programmer full time for about a month. About $1700 for the month (around $11 an hour). I'm revising my post from earlier. Need experience with FPS games. Project is an interesting heist multiplayer FPS where there are three teams (rather than the traditional two). Please let me know of you're available. I need this position filled quickly 😄
[Rev-Share/Partnership] Looking for an artist to function as an "art director" of sorts for an ambitious online, co-op, fantasy RPG type of game. I'm a developer/designer with an early prototype ready. Your duties will be defining the entire visual style of the game, including (but not limited to) modeling, animation, textures, as well as special effects. Please DM me for more info.

[UNPAID] Looking for somebody to help me rebuild my inventory system to be more flexible. It's an MMORPG type inventory system that has a lot of base classes, stats and mechanics inside items. If you're willing to help me out, just message me anytime.
Forgot to add that I work in blueprints. If you want to help me with it using C++, you're welcome but it may be troublesome 😛 Just pointing that out
