You can google it and check the cached page
Honestly, it should be fairly easy to detect. Anyone who does it should just be banned from the Marketplace entirely
no need to ban, just prevent people from changing the price and immediately participating in a sale
it would be trivial to do in the back end
Yup I caught quite a few people doing this today. One of them i had planned to buy during the sale and he readjusated the price. Has epic asked that we report these people for the thirst ?if so where ?
I mean I suppose you could just contact the marketplace support, it would be interesting to see what their response would be
Or don't buy from such sellers. If they do this kind of stuff i can't imagine one would like to work with them.
For that you need to know about it first
I have no clue what stuff costs before the sale.
But yeah, that's shit. Epic should def do something about it.
i don't think there`s anything they can do. same happens with physical stores during so called Black Friday. Nothing happens.
@quaint cedar people should be allowed to name shame here the sellers that are doing that
are they?
Hm, I think it's fair to point it out, so people aren't tricked.
But I also think it's up to Epic to do something about it
Physical stores in the US are bounds by US laws. Online stores are bound by the laws of every country they sell in.
Epic should prevent this kind of thing from happening, through their own back end
I'm pretty disappointed in Epic tbh - it's like they didn't learn anything from when they automatically put everyone's games on sale on EGS and inadvertently ended up causing a few of them to be breaking sales laws (which ended up with some games being pulled from the store)
Steam as an example has restrictions built into it, to prevent games being discounted when they shouldn't be;

Hey guys, found this:
https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/en-US/product/relaxation-and-meditation-music
For some reason, the YouTube preview of the pack is being flagged on YouTube as containing copyrighted music. My first instinct is that I should worry about this as a buyer, anyone ever seen this happen?

I skipped through it but can't pinpoint what triggered it.

oh wow, one person got it right before the sale started. that sucks
emails mp-team to give that person a partial refund
?
hehe
well, more for me in that case :p
No, then he mails back to ask why it isn't using Niagara

are you allowed to publish a new product that is based on an old one but with many additions and features?
as long as they both belong to you
ive done so
if its the same mesh with just a different material I'm personally not fond of it, but if you have like a lite and pro version of a pack that could make sense. or, merge older packs together to form a new all-in-one pack... should be fine :)
you can for your own products, or if you have written permission from an author
at least, unless that changed
Curious but is there any plugin to keep assets outside of a project but quickly load in? sort of like a content browser. Just looking into a better way to store assets for multiple projects
@fickle basin thanks a ton man
Just a word of caution with the current sale that's going on... Source control source control source control.... I'm not going to name any names but I installed a package that I bought yesterday that was on sale and the creator set up his folder structure in a way that it was over writing project settings and various other important aspects of my own game on install.... As well as the precompiled shaders... If I didn't have source control set up... I would have lost at least two weeks worth of work.... And even with source control it took me an hour to get it back to where I was before I installed it.... All these sales are very exciting, but remember to always have a backup before installing anything... That was just a PSA.
Good advice
not to blame the victim and I am happy that you didn't lose anything, but you could create a blank project just to add stuff and migrate.
One last thing but are there any plugins or work around for the sequence exporter? I know it can't be as user friendly as full on renderering software but it feels extremely clunky. No batch renderers.
@queen temple hope you contacted the seller/mp team about that, as the team tries to avoid such problems
Ill do so tonight...it was a devastating experience
@raven ferry you wouldn't even notice if it was created in a blank project which is probably why the marketplace team allowed it
Cause ou would only catch this sort of thing if you're heavily in development
I know because it happened to me before. so many years ago ๐ข
And seriously it's not even marketplace fault... Like I said if it was added to a brand new project you wouldn't even be able to tell what it was over writing
But it wrecked my game mode, project settings, compiled c++, plugin settings, basically everything that was in config and game set up
It was rough
Source control saved me
you mean .ini files right?
I lost maybe 1 hour of work
some assets still do this kind of stuff
An no. I mean the entire config folder was one of the things
images .ini .uproject
He didnt have it in a folder in install...had everything one directory up...which over wrote everything in the folder above content
damn ๐ฐ
Thank god i didnt have any of the third person default content in use cause it over wrote that too...
That's why I'm giving a PSA cause it was devastating
Imagine some of these newer people that don't know how to recover from this sort of thing
Suddenly losing maybe months of work
Yup same concept...guy probably has it one directory up as a data folder install instead of content/mystuff
It would be nice if there was a button when you're about to install like "folder structure and content" that you could see the way they set up the folder structure and what you're about to install before you install it to your project
I would have caught that almost instantly
they can put any folder/file in and out of any root folder
Well... holy shits. Got the Mutant Zombie pack from Game-Ready Characters ยฃ11.79. Then I noticed their bundled pack was also 70% off, only twice the price. I emailed them to see if they'd be cool about okaying a refund as I was going to get the bundle... Today I checked the marketplace to see they had increased the price from ~~ยฃ22 to ยฃ137. ~~
Edit for clarification. Sale price was ยฃ22.15 vs ยฃ41.30
Sorry, but that is just a dick move. Totally out of order.
Yesterdays screenshot.
and today's
@onyx flower This is the kind of thing we can do without in the Marketplace.
yea, that seems like a no-no
that dirt should be removed from MP
Pretty sure that's against all the Marketplace rules, wonder how it passed inspection?
we can change the base price whenever, so someone is changing them during the sale
ah yea
Actually, no, I'm wrong
You are supposed to include a config folder in your project because it has to also be a working standalone project
In a structure like content/mystuff...not as a overwrite of a persons project
I kind of assumed the launcher would filter those out
This is from the official Marketplace guidelines
Right..we were talking about users doing everything an entire structure up
Slapping everything in your main data folder instead of my project/mystuff
Basically /data/config...instead of data/my project/config
I think I'm missing something, because that's exactly how they tell you to do it
...read carefully
Data/config...
And data/myproject/config....
Data/config belongs to the project you install to
Not your install
https://twitter.com/UnrealAlexander/status/1265301663604183045 related to price-increase during sale
@Luos_83 Fwding this. Please email the marketplace team to make them aware. Thank you for letting us know
Screenshot above is what a pack looks like following the Marketplace guidelines
All the project files are in the zip root
I've tried to make a fuss about bumped prices during/pre sale about 2 years ago, unsucesfully.. glad it's finally being addressed
Its tough to explain...the users we were talking about had it set up in a way that it overwrites the projects theyre installing to essential files... ๐
I understood that but I'm trying to wrap my ahead around how you could do that ๐
By including all the folders one structure up
@delicate dove I replied to your tweet ๐
Not just content
Things like Source and so on?
Yup
Because one of the things which is one folder is up "config", and you're supposed to include that
That's why I was confused
It literally is like dropping a bomb on someone elses work
Official guides are 1x project file, 1x config folder, 1x content folder
Though the rules are actually a bit vague, they just say you can't have anything under Content except for your project folder
And code plugins can obviously have even more things
Maybe they named their install zip data instead of thier project name
But if that was the case then you would think the marketplace would catch that immediately
Seems like it might be some kind of a bug with the launcher in that case
Just playing around with it a bit and it simply ignores the "config" folder when adding to a project
BUT it does include any other random files that might be in there
yea, the mp-team will want to hear about that too for sure.
You're meant to keep Epic sales secret
But I don't think there's anything saying you can't announce that you're going to have a sale on your product?
(Though you certainly shouldn't be allowed to say you're having a fake sale where you increase the price first)
๐ well whatever it is, it exist...the psa was about the importance of source control...i dont sell on mp so i have no clue about the inner workings of how its done
Source control is always good for sure
But you should definitely email the Marketplace team about that issue
@graceful arrow @ebon leaf could you dm me the names of the authors (and the packages in question) that increased prices during the sale?
read up, I've not been shy.
yeah, that`s one. but the other one?
Probably the same guy judging by the prices
In the UK the seller I referenced has broke the law.
** the previous price should have been the most recent price available for 28 consecutive days or more **
with previous price meaning the products full price.
imagine putting items in the cart for several days and prices changes during that period. when you hit pay, you'll pay more than you agreed on when you added the items to the cart.
this could've happend to you @graceful arrow if you weren't on top of it.
Indeed, although I always double check.
yeah, but what if you have 50 items in your cart, it's getting difficult
Although, it's not officially a transaction until you hit pay.
no, but when you add the items to your cart you add them at a certain price. when you hit pay and have multiple items, you lost track
if they changed price during that time, you're a victim ๐
edit- all this was a mistake by Epic and has been resolved
ah
Brushify asked for the change, as it was a mistake by Epic.
As the % varies throughout the market.
wait, what?
sale prices are changing mid-sale?
I'm not a fan of that at all
I don't know how I'd notice, to be honest
I'm definitely not going around tracking prices and price changes
Hey I have a question about the marketplace. How advanced does something have to be (Bp or C++ wise) to be able to put it on the marketplace? Or is there no such thing?
How many minutes did the guy miss out on the sale? ๐
not sure, but cant be more than a few hours tops
Not sure if this is the right channel, marketplace related. Anyone else find getting marketplace systems kind of useless for quick use? Some of the things i got require you to create a project and others are integrated into more than one place that to copy it out into your existing project is a nightmare. Am i wrong or does it seem to be that music, asset, effect type packs are the only really useful marketplace items?
don't buy them if you think they're useless. no one's forcing you
you dont really know till you do
some of them are good, some are bad... i believe they're good learning material
So if you buy a "system" you should expect to use it to learn really? Im just curious if im looking at this wrong. For example you can make something as a component like say an inventory system back end and then it can be attached to anything really or you can have all the logic sprawled through multiple graphs which to me is rough to deal with. Is there an easier way to deal with the marketplace systems that arent compartmentalized very well? or am i correct in the fact they are just going to be really hard to them put into your existing project?
I use marketplace for game ready assets since I am not a modeller etc, I just love making cinematics in unreal engine. It just gives me the convenience and to opportunity to learn blueprints etc, how the pros setup their materials etc.
Btw, I love the lighting tutorials on the online learning site. There are a lot of archiviz type furnitures, walls, windows, doors etc that I can use personally (not commercially).
good stuff from the resource sections of the several UE tutorials
i don't really buy any systems @plucky helm. I'm a dev myself, but that's what i can see it as. Either you learn from them, or you integrate them. No system would work with your project 100% percent without doing changes to it.
@hasty nexus Ive always made my own systems and avoided marketplace systems because of the difficulties ive had but some people are slamming games together fast with marketplace systems, so i thought maybe i was doing it wrong
Anyone know some "must have" plugins for unreal engine?
Using Blueprints (But I'm able to write c++ or c++ blueprints / interfaces for c++ plugins so they get exposed for blueprints)
Working on a low poly-ish stylish first person game
@graceful arrow those pictures you posted, one of them is a single asset the other is a collection
theyre different products
oh actually i see the collection in there too
You shouldn't bother about the red rings, that's unrelated. The prices I stated are correct @sinful rover
๐
did @onyx flower respond to all this price hiking stuff yet
i know people pinged him yesterday ๐
the marketplace team have been notified
There may not be much they can do. It's potentially a legal nightmare though as Epic has to comply with numerous countries laws, or maybe they don't. No idea.
They do have to, and I'm sure it's a pain
So their current solution is to just not comply ๐
Figures.
The current situation with people changing their prices so that their sales appear more impressive is massively illegal
Even if it isn't in the US, Epic has to comply with the laws of any country it sells in as digital storefront
I refer you to the chap above who said.. :
So their current solution is to just not comply ๐
๐
Oh yeah that was me, I was just elaborating
Yeah, I got that ๐ ๐
To that I say... eh?
yeah, the response is a bit funny
it still falls foul of the law in certain countries, whether they 'feel' it's intentional abuse or not
you could get away with that argument in the UK (potentially, you can still be challenged), but in France that just doesn't fly
So the guy decreased the base price of his product instead of putting it on sale, the first time?
seems like it, then when the sale came along he put it right up again
or just leaving the price as is and not putting it on sale
still if the product was a lower price all that time, and he's now claiming its on sale
despite it being a higher price
thats extremely deceitful
and should simply not be possible
this article i was reading lists this exact scenario:
Well, we'll see what response I get to my reply to that email.
it shouldnt be acceptable whether it was done intentionally or not
Yup . i got proof of another Guy who did the same thing and used the same excuse as what @delicate dove posted. He had it for sale for 400 , then it went on sale for 200 before the sale started. Once the sell started and the seller realized epic had added another 50% making the product now 99.99 , he went ahead and up the price back to the original 400 , making it 200 again with the epic sale. So yeah , these dudes fishy. Wont be buying from anyone who gets caught up in this now or ever.
That article @sinful rover isn't correct as far as I'm aware. At least the company directors of my last job were under the impression the 28 day rule still applied. They were rather particular about ensuring all advertised prices were accurate and complied with the letter of the law.
I actually ccalled him on it in the discord and this was his reply " it stated on the product page that 50 off, but 50 off on what? on its original price 400... so when there is "no official discount sale from epic happening", I directly apply that on the price! when the epic official discount sale begin, I switch to use the official sale.... There is no cheating here, no matter the official or the unofficial sale time, it is always 50 off its original price."
well i think thats what this article is refering to, scenarios where the new regulations 'dissapoint'
@unreal eagle that's... words fail me.
I wonder if Epic simply don't care, as if the price goes up they are still making a higher profit that if it had remained the same.
The seller is MasterHiPoly and the product is Next Gen Modular City V2 50
yup and thats my problem. They are making MORE money by doing this and its at both epics and our expense
oh that product
reminds me of that outrageously priced interactive water product that they removed all the comments from
Yeah i wont be buying it now. Ill just stick to doing them one by one. Couldnt cutomize those the way i needed anyway. So thanks for being greedy and saving me more money !
sheet he actually said it
Sellers: do you usually see an increased number of sales during marketplace sales, even if your products are still full price?
Well idk ๐
I did have a small spike in sales on the 25
I guess I'll see if the trend continues during the sale, or if it was just a one off
shame you're not participating, that thing is definitely on my wishlist ๐
Hehe
may i know your product @north stirrup hehe
is there a wishlist function? I would assume it would be a hassle to use the shopping cart as a wishlist, especially if it times out and resets after some time. Does anyone know if the cart resets?
Even if I could use the cart as a wishlist I would need to empty it to actually buy something lol
Is there a plugin to organize my vault?
Pretty sure there isn't a wishlist
There is not
It's all very barebones ๐
As with EGS
They're losing millions because of this blunder.
I don't think people are spending millions on the Marketplace. For Epic to be losing millions at 12% they'd have to be losing 17 million of sales at minimum
I just keep interesting things in tabs in a separate tab group
Not a huge deal IMO
@safe stump @real dust http://www.unrealsales.io ๐
I need some help about the marketplace....
Say if someone brought an asset from the marketplace, and asked me to build a level for them with the asset, how could they legally give it to me so I can build them a level?
Do i have to buy that asset aswell, and if so how do I send it back to them?
@ebon leaf you should be fine. Imagine if a game company hired someone and then told them they need to purchase all the assets the company purchased. If you do plan to use the asset for your own projects, then go ahead and buy it.
So how would I do it. (I dont plan to use the asset myself)
Should they just send me the files to the asset?
@eager kestrel
In this case, yes, they probably should
@real dust Should send the files?
Yeah
@real dust And then when I am done, I should just send them the whole project files?
For instance
they would normally give you access to the project files via version control
@modern perch Upload the project files to dropbox....
dropbox will kinda work, but version control is a lot more sensible
Is version control free?
usually, but the server to run it on usually is not
but using version control will avoid all kinds of issues with data changes, etc
Yeah I'm assuming that there isn't any VC Vanilla ๐
Because if there was he'd have been told to use it by the client
the client should really do something about that ๐
just asking for trouble by not using it and relying on people to manually copy/paste files around
@viral crow Do you know if it has any issues with forgetting wishlist items or losing track of them, or can't track some categories, or can it track games too?
Look at these questions! https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/en-US/product/rpg-user-interface-kit/questions
Its quite silly.
I don't think I've had issues yet @safe stump
Those questions are a bit silly. If he had used identical icons then maybe they might have a point but using SkyUI for inspiration isn't wrong.
@graceful arrow Thanks for your opinion. I'm the author actually. What makes them silly for me is that if Epic thought I was breaking the law they would have rejected it at the submission stage anyway but these guys don't realise this.
@spring swallow Bit of a Karen...
@ebon leaf lol indeed
@spring swallow Did the person who posed the 'Question'/ statement make SkyUI?
@ebon leaf I haven't asked but I think I will.
@spring swallow Because if not, then that is really odd...
Ha. How do you know that? eh? ๐
you made the rpg-user-interface @spring swallow ?
@fickle basin they obviously forgot to include:
if (Stolen) { Application.Decline() };
if you cant use the same lay-out as other games/kits then 90% of all software can go in the trashcan
as long as the art itself is "unique" and self made should be fine
yeah but you cant reuse their assets tho
yeah but the author said all art is made by him
he's just using the same layout it seems
myeah thats hardly anything to get upset about i suppose
this already happens on a meta-level on the marketplace, which sellers copying other unreal market place assets lol
notably the synty content has a bunch of people copying them
hehe yeah, low ball the price, add a bit of extra bling and see if you're lucky
even in presentation
but ofc that will happen, i mean presentation/look/feel it's how the world works..not many people re-invent the wheel hehe
also logical tbh, otherwise you wouldnt be able to make antyhing..rush and get as much stuff out and cry wolf when any1 dares to approach your style
as long as the art is unique it should be fine imo
The slogan on there is probably going too far
yeah for sure, was just kidding but its nothing liek that haha
even if it was, for the purposes of demonstration it would probably be fine as long you could change something like that
didnt pubg have to take their fake redbull out tho
@spring swallow 'Well, I guess we are asking them to reassess, then. At the point your mod was submitted, I am sure they rubber stamped everything. It means nothing.'
Oh god...
@spring swallow The creator of SkyUI username is 'schlangster' not Dark-Dominion or Zanderat. They could have changed their name for UE and Nexus, but it seems unlikely...
@spring swallow They said 'Don't worry, we'll be back.' I called it.. I did... KAREN!
Hi, does anyone know where i could get statues for free, I've looked everywhere on the unreal marketplace but to no luck
for example:
Hmm there are some Roman statues on quixel but none are like warriors
I was thinking if it's absolutely impossible I might have to create my own but I have no clue how to do that either
At the end of the day, it's a lot of work making art so most artists aren't willing to give their work away for free
@plucky karma Is something like this okay? if so Quixel is 100% your best bet, for free
@delicate dove @unreal eagle Sorry about my late reply regarding this, I just saw your posts. Vlad banned me from his discord a week ago or so for calling him out on where he violated the marketplace guidelines and the sellers agreement then talking about how he can do whatever he wants with a UT fork. I sent a ticket to the mp team about UWorks regarding his behavior to customers, his lack of support for the product, and violating the marketplace agreement/guidelines in a few places.
@plucky karma Is something like this okay? if so Quixel is 100% your best bet, for free
@ebon leaf yeah I saw that one, honestly might just go for it even if it's missing a head and a weapon lmao
But if it's not too hard to make a simple model myself I might try to learn how
@plucky karma they have heads separately, which you could probably just attach on to the body in UE.
Oh true didn't think of that, thank you!
@plucky karma check the Infinity Blade assets in the free category. a bit lower quality, might be able to find decent placeholder at least.
or find a free rigged character, pose him and bake out a static mesh
any idea why there is no option to sort by popularity on the marketplace? i think it's always kinda hard to find something that looks good
epic hates ux
@sturdy granite You went on a witch hunt on me with false accusations. You had around 10 points or more, which I proved wrong completely, by quoting the EULA, except for one: I had not provided a valid e-mail address. I have now provided an e-mail address, which I "actively monitor", according to the EULA, where I will never reply to anyone, simply because it's in my right to do so. No seller has even been obligated to provide support or updates, which is very clear in the EULA.
I specifically banned you for creating drama, by presenting yourself as a victim and spreading misinformation, just like you're doing here now. Except, on my server, after you created drama, you continued to be disrespectful and I'm not allowing that anymore. You're free to complain to Epic about me. Luos may be a moderator, but he has nothing to do with my marketplace stuff.
And yea, with a UT fork, you can do whatever you want. Read the license. Besides, that's my problem, not yours, is it?
I know what you mean, i end up wasting so much time working through sales, i could be saved hours every sale if epic would put a week of work into the ux
check the Infinity Blade assets in the free category. a bit lower quality, might be able to find decent placeholder at least.
@candid rivet hmm i checked these but its not supported for UE 4.25
Hello there!! Is everyone having a good load time in the marketplace?
I'm strugling with page loading, taking 10 sec. to load 1 image of 3MB
*having a 300mbps internet connection
@dull rampart using a browser or the launcher? I'm all good on both fronts. If it is your launcher, possibly it is doing other things as well (downloading updates or something).
first it was the launcher, so trying to discard any problem with the launcher went directly to the webpage and still the same issue
most of the time its freezes my launcher, and trying to zoom a marketplace image freezes about 10/15 seconds the launcher..
in the webpage most of the times the large images are not loaded
I get that same freezing issue on images. Usually need to minimize the launcher to get it to work.
yeah, seems the webkit inside the launcher goes unresponsive when DOM and images isn't fully loaded
I've around 280 items in my marketplace library and each time I want to see details of any of them its and horrible experience
@lean venture Your response is exactly why I submitted a ticket to the marketplace team. This isn't about me it's about you, I am not a victim because I don't need your plugin but there are others who depend on it and don't have the skill to fix it or to know whether or not they are being ripped off.
Marketplace Guidelines 3.1.a:
3.1.a Publishers must ensure all their published products function as advertised, as well as assist customers who report issues using their products in Supported Engine Versions on Supported Platforms.
You are literally admitting to willfully breaking section 3.1, I called you out on it because the plugin did not function as advertised for over a year and you banned people for fixing the plugin and posting the solution (not the entire plugin) while you kept claiming you were updating it.
The only difference now is you are admitting it where the UE4 community staff (@onyx flower, @shadow inlet ) can see and confirm to the marketplace investigators that you are intentionally breaking the agreements and the law (see my message where I said you were breaking the UT license if you didn't delete it).
No, you're just barfing information that you interpret as correct once again. I haven't had a bug report in my plugin in 2 years or so. That's what issue means.
"I bought product X and now I'm screwed because the developer doesn't update it." Does not mean X is broken. It means the customer is inept, whoever that is.
The people you're tagging will surely prove your crusade right.
to be objective, which content are we talking? and which "bug" is bothering?
lets try to keep the channel fun and not dramatic, drama ruin stuff
It's a plugin called UWorks. People have posted the full source code (not partial fixed) and "demanded" updates and also a plugin that has copied 70% of it is now being resold on the Marketplace (see my screenshot from a few days ago).
I feel like this channel can be used a kind of watchlist for marketplace developers you should avoid dealing with
@merry field Completely agree. I will never buy anything from @lean venture just because every time he posts here, it's to argue or belittle people
not everyone is meant for public facing work I guess
I've had a handful of customers with zero skills and ability to read targetting me for ages now. I have people complaining about me changing prices from 160 to 5 USD, as if that's a violation of the EULA.
Yea, definitely let me know you won't buy me from me.
I was looking at UWorks earlier, and as someone who has been breaking his head over how to implement steam in C++ for the last few weeks, it seems like a pretty solid plugin. What is the problem again? xD
I agree with @merry field, but from what I read in the marketplace page about this, I get the price went down probably because Epic now offer this in their Online Services..
There's no technical problem. You can buy it and you'll have all the functions in BP. But I'm not obligated to offer you support just because you buy it. If you ask me something respectfully, I'll reply. But if you want me to spend hours holding your hand, I won't. And people don't understand that.
either way, 55 votes of 4/5.. looks solid, not always life its going to be pink.. what I CAN say is.. you posted a note saying the following "The presentation is outdated and not in line with the 4.24 and 4.25 versions. It will be updated soon.", so I think you should remove those versions from the Supported Engine Versions..
ahh, gotcha. One of those issues.
No. I lowered my price for a multitude of reasons, none being the now in-engine Steam support, which, as far as I know, doesn't even compete with my product.
It is supported in 4.24 and 4.25
oh, I missread
Sellers don't set that kind of notes
I meant the pictures had fallen behind
Epic sets that kind of notes, with Supported Versions, based on whether the products have passed their checks or not. Mine have.
"3.1.a Publishers must ensure all their published products function as advertised, as well as assist customers who report issues using their products in Supported Engine Versions on Supported Platforms."
ASSIST, not implement for them. If a consumer is incapable of even understanding the basics of UE4, it is not up to the marketplace developers to educate them.
Just wanted to point that out, hehe.
Thank you for that emphasis!
Lots of newbies are downloading UE4 and buying assets thinking they can instantly start making a game, but have no clue what they are doing. It happens in all aspects of life and sooner or later they will either learn or quit.
I think most old marketplace sellers now have a plethora of "where are the logs" and "where is the Make-A-Game button" stories. I just stopped trying to make mine "go away" and let them be.
Unfortunately, there are also a lot of sellers who give in to this kind of pressure and effectively let the customers get the idea that they are entitled to everything and anything - sellers who are entering slavery willingly just for a good review or comment.
I see.. so, I dont see any problem then.. its like @eager kestrel said.. "assist customers who report issues using their products", if they reported issues, it might be related to skills or poor documentation, eitherway.. everyone is free to do or undo in their manner.. so, if people dont want to buy, fine.. and if they do, also fine..
I do understand those saying "I paid $250 and now its $5", but newsflash, people buy video cards at $600/$700 or even more.. and whe hype is over, they drop to $300.. so, it may happen sometimes..
when*
The thing about that price drop though.... the old price was 160 USD base (+ VAT for which I am not responsible). Between the 160 price and the 5 USD price, there were almost 3 full months with no sales at all.
Now, imagine that particular customer was the last customer who paid 160.
He then used my product for 3 months and got pissed that I dropped the price.
For 160 USD, you got it then. Not now.
And that's literally the best case scenario
I have PMs from that customer from 2018. I doubt he bought it in February 2020.
And I mark their reviews as technically inaccurate or harassment, Epic removes them, because they are both, and yet "the developer is now removing reviews".
Almost nobody ever reviews what they bought for what it is.
The marketplace has become one of the most toxic environments I've seen.
its ok, no need to explain to me.. I'm nobody.. I just tried to calm down the heat to make this place more friendly..
So much Drama over a plugin from 2017 0_o
Now if every single customer is complaining, then maybe there is a problem on the developers part, but if most are having no issues, then obviously the asset works as intended.
I was just saying, in general. I keep my involvement to a minimum in the UE community nowadays but since I got mentioned here and this came up, I thought some information needed to come out, as other sellers may find it useful somehown
Speaking generally now, not just about @lean venture's asset.
To be fair, Epic introducing that "review graph" was a really smart move. Now you can see if the reviews are at the extremes 1-5 or spread between somehow. When everyone rates something 5 stars except a handful few, that says quite a lot.
@eager kestrel Yea, I understand. I'd be ok if it was about my work as well, so long as it was technically accurate.
Exactly. Most of the time those 1-star reviews are done in spite. I bought a product and it was broken when I received it and now you get 1-star even though you replaced it free of charge. lol.
Yea. I have no idea what happened since 2017, but this marketplace has seriously degraded, despite all the new features.
I think I hate the markeplace in the launcher..
We were thinking about putting a couple of our procedural systems of our still unannounced game on the Marketplace. But is it even worth it? I see nothing but bad things about the MP from both buyers and sellers :/
viewing 1 assets detail over 30 sec to load..
There's even a full thread in the private Creators' Forum about customers holding ratings as "hostages" until the sellers give in to their demands.
@dull rampart my images are working in my launcher now, no clue what changed, haha. Next time it loads up the problem will probably return.
after 30 secs, 3/4 images loaded..
I tend to read the questions more than the reviews.
@hoary ferry I've had 4 products almost ready (one of which I even submitted) for over a year now. Given how much the income has fallen and the amount of new and unreasonable customers I've seen, I haven't been able to find any desire to push any of them.
I would advise you to go ahead, but carefully!
@hoary ferry did you say procedural? Let me buy them!!
And it might be worth disabling your PMs first thing because you'd get assaulted otherwise, even if you had a public Discord server or something.
Hmm that bad huh? I've been getting that vibe over the last few months aswell.
@hoary ferry not following @eager kestrel, let me leech them! HAHA
Test the hell out them before releasing them and as long as you stupify the documentation and test it out on a few friends of differing intelligence and ue4 experience, all should go smooth (hopefully)
Hey, we are all grabbing the epic free stuff xD
Collecting monthly freebies, duh
I did spend roughly $750 when the sale hit though. Been watching those assets too long to pass on them.
Yeahhhh, it was more meant as a "We as a studio worked on this for months and we'd like to give back to the community while making a little extra money. Let's strip our IP and throw it on the MP"
We arent feeling like spending lots of Dev Hours stupifying the system if those hours can be better spend on our game.
I live in a 3rd world country, can't afford that.. so I keep the freebies
buying marketplace assets is my sad addiction
^
S-same
to be honest, I still keep $20 from the $30 refund when Unreal was selled..
if that doesn't tell how picky am I to spend money.. lol
Just to give a different perspective on that
I'm only a very small seller
But I've had basically no trouble with buyers
@merry field I think it might be related to content complexity..
People just buy occasionally, maybe every couple of months someone will post a question or send me an email
Agree
I'd say integration complexity, especially
newbies (like myself, ofc) tend to understand only basics, so Blueprint/C++ plugins and stuff might be harderd
If it's a mostly stand-alone thing that you can configure easily through properties, people won't ask as many questions
Yeah, ease of integration will produce less angry customers, hehe
few weeks ago, I bough the doors asset and It didnt fill my need
Hehe, yeah ours would def fall under the "Complicated AF" section
I wanted to open the door from the side the player was so it doesnt hit your face..
@merry field what are you selling on the marketplace? If you don't mind. Someone probably already asked too.
and went some debug and did exactly dad
That luxury doesn't come with plugins, though. No matter their size or complexity, they'll require very minimal C++ knowledge to update on your own. That's where hell breaks loose.
@eager kestrel I have two things, but only one of them actually sells, a blueprint system for handling splinemeshes
@hoary ferry you need good documentation to avoid the "AF" part..
The other one, I failed with properly selling what it does, never got around to going back to improve the marketplace page
Whats the name of the spline thingy? Bet it aint nameless right?
"NV Spline Tools"
I thinked once to make something usefull and make some earnings, but still too newbie to develop something meaning..
lol, its "Nameless Workshop"
Heh, yeah, I'll admit I just typed something into the "shop name" box without thinking too hard
@merry field nice! the Random generator is actually more interesting to me xD
@merry field I actually like that random generator too
I picked up a competitor for the spline meshes though
But yes, I had the same idea, I made the spline system for myself originally, then decided to clean it up and make it a product
Took me maybe a week of work to "productise" it
The random one is the one that I think undersold
It needs more screenshots and a video showing how to use it
I was about to say. with some vid showing it off and how to use it, I might buy it xD
I've also been a bit worried that it's very "theoretical". I haven't heard from anyone actually using it if it's actually useful for specific purposes
today I tried to start making a "minecraft" sandbox, did the cube blueprint and suddenly my 1080 TI dropped from 120fps to 16fps when it was 2300 cubes in the viewport.. smart enough I did my diligent googling after debugging GPU and found out it was because the box had dynamic shadows.. fixed that, and then freezed because I reached a point noticing I need to make levels in a procedural manner and I dont know how, yet..
Probably want to use instanced static meshes for that
We are working on a "game" based on TableTopRPGs, somethign were true randomness is king. but sometimes you want to give your GMs a bit more "Control". stuff like this would be very usefull for that ๐
It was mostly things like hit and crit chances that I had in mind when making it
@merry field in the shufflebag numbers option of NV Random, can each number's chance be adjusted individually?
@dull rampart Minecraft wasnt made by spawning boxes. If you wanna know how to make a "Minecraft like" game. Look at the free version of @north stirrup's voxel plugin.
DnD indeed ๐
@hoary ferry which plugin is that?
@merry field the images show an equal amount of each number, but I'd assume I could manually add the numbers and then randomize it. Like put in 300 1s and 100 2s and 50 3s, etc.
@dull rampart https://voxelplugin.com
btw, I have almost 6 projects created, none of them more than 10% done.. I have so many assets and still unable to think a "simplistic" game idea, lol
only 6 new projects...amateur
yeah, I tend to reuse them HAH
@eager kestrel No, you'd have to wrap that on top of the output yourself
My SSD cries everytime I click that big oll Launch UE4 button xD
It has an even chance of each output
But you could e.g. put a range of 1-450 and then map the output
The weighting that it has is more for adjusting the weights based on occurrence
Hit 450 and win the epic prize
So that e.g. each time you roll a '1', the chance of another '1' goes down
But that is for the adjusted-random algorithm, not for the shufflebag which works differently
@hoary ferry I moved the UE and Projects to my HDD, no even my 1TB SSD can handle my sickness
A good way to make the launcher cry is to have lots of versions of UE4 installed
And if you make things on the Marketplace, you need to have lots of versions of UE4 installed...
Because you need to keep whatever version your product was made in
I have only 4.25 and the one is crying is me.. I hate browsing assets is so bad
My splines were done in 4.20 so I need to keep that installed. I tried to use 4.16 for everything after that (including the random), so need to keep that.
Couldn't you just remove support for a lower version if you wanted to?
@merry field see? the advantage of having no products, is I can use just 1 version xD hahha
I could, but it potentially reduces sales
True
Because they are not backwards compatible
On the MP we're only allowed to have 3 versions right
That's only for plugins
Ah
For assets, you can have as many as you want
Generally a good idea to make it for the oldest version where it works
Well that makes sense
4.16 is a good version because it has most features in it but is ancient
I only support the latest 3 releases
@phy you made the voxel plugin?
@north stirrup is there any differene in buying voxel pro on the marketplace or from your website?
I sure did rgenen
Seems like its atleast 4. versions for plugins
You sure?
@eager kestrel Buying on gumroad is cheaper, but you'll have to build from source yourself
I still have the UWorks tab open, and it lists 4 versions
I had problems with another product I was working on because I kept wanting to use new features because I needed editor widgets to customise it. Ended up with it needing 4.24, which seems like a lot of complaints waiting to happen
Interesting
@north stirrup looks amazing, but having no project and no budget seems like too much money to add to my library, the bad side of not having USD income..
dw, free will be on the MP soon enough
Man a long time ago I was gonna buy the voxel plugin pro version when it was a 150, but that project fell apart. I keep hitting myself on the head everytime I see the current price of it xD
lmao
@dull rampart the free version is great too. I've been playing around with it for a while now.
hopefully not too great ๐ฌ
@north stirrup nice!!
haha
Pro is still worth it
@eager kestrel yeah, but I have that "itch" in my head seeing amazing features in the PRO version and seems the Free one not good enough..
I was waiting for it to go on sale, but I will probably buy it regardless.
Man I'd love to add it to our game, and give users the ability to sculpt their own map. But as far as I know, Multiplayer has some erm... limitations. atleast the last time I asked (Prob a year or so ago)
Then might as well bite, haha.
Oh? ๐
@north stirrup it would be Epic and Unreal if the Pro version be launched as June freebies.. if you know what I mean.. ๐
Haha, I dont think even epics fortnite money could affort that xD
anyone from Unreal reading this? god damnit
Voxel Graphs, Voxel Spawners, Voxel Physics, Importers. Gimme them all!
Buying it now, not gonna hold out for 5%, haha.
yay ๐
But hey, that Multiplayer news is interesting, might give the free version a shot after our "Publisher hunting season" is over!
@north stirrup btw, whats the difference from "Basic" multiplayer to "TCP Socket" ? I mean, technically, I get the TCP may be more performant..
It's complicated ๐ฌ
@north stirrup see, I gave u a sale.. where is my reward? hahah
You have 2 main approaches to multiplayer: syncing the actions (eg, add sphere here), or syncing the voxels (add all these voxels, remove all these)
To sync the actions you just need to send a bunch of RPCs
that's available in Free, and works relatively well
I think I'll grab voxel pro from the marketplace. Then I can leave a ton of nasty reviews ๐
To sync voxels, you can't use the unreal networking layer (it just dies under the load), so you need to use a custom socket
@north stirrup yeah, that was I was thinking about..
Just to reference previous discussions, haha
the unreal networking seems like for small stuff
it can be for big stuff too
as long as it's small "actions"
like add huge sphere
yeah, got it..
the really tricky part is sending an initial save on join
going back to my game idea.. I feel overwhelm of thinking in anything..
How is multiplayer performance atm @north stirrup?
We are working on a Map editor for our Game Masters, and we'd love to give them the ability to sculpt maps for their players. They would do this in the in-game map editor, but before all other players connect. During play sessions I dont think much of the map would change other than maybe some possible explosions (You know how much players like those)
Would this work with the Voxel Plugin? The Data might be big, but it would also be a one time download untill there are big map changes right?
I want to start small, and feel frustrated seeing I cant do something looking so simple..
tbh I haven't tried it in a while Blue
The Data might be big, but it would also be a one time download untill there are big map changes right
that's correct
@dull rampart if you cant finish a game, finish a mechanic ๐
saves are also a lot smaller now than they used to be
But even sending something as small as 10MB through RPCs can take a while
i think that for that stuff, TCP sockets is better..
Ideally you'd have the game masters upload the map to some kind of hosting service
maybe you can mix them?
to make a tcp wrapper to map downloads
Since the sizes are very small, the game hosting might not even be that expensive
Yeah it would be more of a "Download before the game starts" kind of thing
We are using Amazon's gamedev web services to store data, so yeah, the GM could upload them there with the rest of the session data
That would work great
just what I tough..
it's exactly what we are doing in Core
So it's a well supported workflow, already used in production ๐
Wait, do you mean this core? "https://twitter.com/CoreGames"
you are working on that? thats pretty cool!
yup that's my day job now ๐
Nice!
nice!
Am I correct that its kind of similar to Dreams? atleast in the sense that it makes Simple gamedev easier for people looking to get into gamedev? Havent looked tooo much into it
yup, similar in concept to Dream/Roblox
Nice, its always great to see projects that try to make gamedev easier to get into ^_^
Especially if they are using voxels ๐
Which of amazons services are you uploading the maps too?
We are using Redacted for our Database, but idk if thats the right one for Voxel maps xD
We're using Azure, and I think that's all I'm allowed to tell you ๐
@north stirrup you can never have enough voxels!! (Says the young minecraft player that is still somewhere deep inside me)
#notfortnite
Gotcha, NDAs are the biggest party poopers in the entire world xD
well, it's also about security here
what the ip address
this is a public chat after all ๐
Good point ๐
But hey, if core uses Voxel plugin for their terrains, I'm preeeeetty sure we'll be alright aswell
So many questions from people wanting to make minecraft
hehe, I'll just have to make a minecraft tutorial then!
haha, maybe you should start planning that one, its almost a given with the new popularity surge xD
there will also be the obligatory "does it work in vr?"
oof
good thing it does ๐
great, forgot to ask that one myself xD
"Can you port to Unreal Engine v4.10?"
"Will this be on UE5?"
haha, only had that one 4 or 5 times
i saw a comment earlier that said "this is too expensive, can you cut the price in half?"
"With unlimmited voxels plzzz?"
People don't think how much it would cost to develop something like that themselves, or to pay someone to do so
they obviously didnt think long about that comment in any sort of way
he should have mentioned easy voxels tho
which is a much better comparison
he just compared a matchbox car with a lamborghini
"Google it" / "ADVANCED questions" lmao
one of them will actually drive you to your location
haha fair
yeah, Rocco is an old friend of mine ๐
so I wasn't too surprised by his comment
Lol judging from that comment, you guys arent friends anymore
There's also another 5-star product called UIWS (if I recall correctly) which does water simulation really well and it was also 300+ at release (I don't know about now). The gentleman got spammed with "this price is too high" right from day one.
i mean the pricing of that is kinda questionable though imo
but i guess its whatever people think is worth it
there will also be the obligatory "does it work in vr?"
@sinful rover its funny because VR cost a kidney or so..
they couldnt remove the comments fast enough on that one ๐
With covid it's more like 2 kidneys last I checked
Ok yeah, never saw that plugin before, and its verry expensive, but atleast the water looks amazing!
@lean venture Actually the pricing of UIWS is what convinced me to set the price on mine so high
If the price is too expensive, you can do something crazy and.... not buy it.
The author made a nice post about the cost of marketplace assets
If youโve ever purchased a premium asset from the unreal engine marketplace, chances are youโve seen the comments that go something like โLooks good but Iโd only pay $10 for thisโ or in more extreme cases โthis price is insaneโ. As professional developers we read these and r...
In all seriousness now, thinking of you and Elliot (UIWS) made me have second thoughts about lowering the price of mine, as I knew I'd indirectly be working against your efforts.
@lean venture you cheap bastard >.> haha
Yea, I read that. Knowing the guy and being a seller myself, I've watched the reactions to UIWS closely for a while and it was even bugging me too to see all those empty comments.
jk, lower pricing even more so I can buy stuff hahah
@dull rampart Yea, I know. I just couldn't take it anymore. It was time to move on for me.
you did the steamworks api @lean venture ?
Yes
right now, our USD rate is 1/90..
how is that only 5 bucks right now wtf
But there was q really nice discussion about voxels here going on, that I accidentally interrupted so I'd like to go back to that, as I was lurking and reading it before
so, how much did you say? $250? its more than I pay for my rental..
I dont event know what a voxel is guys.. nk, I'm that newbie..
Dang, that right there, should be on every page in the Marketplace
you don't have to buy it if you don't know what it is or can't afford it
im curious though going from one of the higher prices to such a low one @lean venture, did you end up making a lot more sales going down the way?
i think i picked it up at like a 100 or so
@hasty nexus i know.. needless to say..
now its 5 bucks and i never even used it lol
i'm joking around, some truth, some not
Hold up, UWorks went from $500 to $5?
@sinful rover Scroll up
did i miss something
Vlad's been over it several times already ๐
I'm not interrupting Phy again, sorry
my bad
Anyway, Guess we're gonna try out the Voxel plugin at some point ^_^
The kind of discussion Blue and Phy were having is the kind that should be here more often
And Ngenen ^^
I did feel a bit like advertisement though ๐
@north stirrup That bad comment mentioned that there was n o navigation, is there a solution to that?
ok, so I figured out that I'm "newbier" than I tough and hour ago.. HAHA
tried the @hoary ferry approach of doing a mechanic
trying to do a "passcode" blueprint
and then figured that inside blueprints its all static meshes, so I need to make the 3d model for the PAD and import it to use, which leads me to a new problem, how do I split buttons from the PAD? should I do them by separate?
@north stirrup well glad those questions are cleared up xD
Last question before I stop! (I think.....)
Can users have influence over world generation parameters in game? or are those all editor only
most of my writing is retorical, I mean, I'm looking for guidance and I dont at the same time.. more like a "you could.. blah"
@dull rampart Glad you've found something interesting to work on, but maybe this is more of a #blueprint thing? ๐
@hoary ferry are you in there? dont take away my friends! HAHAH
Everything is runtime friendly Blue
the only thing that's editor only is editing voxel graphs
because that's using unreal editor code
Great! this thing is sounding better and better xD
Anyway, time for catching ZZZZzzzz's
Thanks for answering all my questions!
np! Thanks for asking them ๐
I think a big thing with the pricing is that there are totally different ranges of people using the Marketplace
@merry field totally
And what's cheap for a studio is expensive for a solo dev and seems insane to a hobbyist
@hoary ferry good night buddy
speaking of experience, there are many hobbyist for who $350 is not that expensive
Before I got my Dreamworks mentor I might have been the same? You really start to value time a lot more once a Pro spends some of his valuable time on you.
It's like "They could have spend their valuable time on anything, but they chose to spend it on this"
The ranges of people on the marketplace go from "I don't know anything" to "I am a professional myself and can judge this for what it is". That's what's causing the problems.
I've seen professionals living in 3rd world countries who never begged for a dime.
That's the classic "a little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing"
And I routinely see I-installed-UE-at-noon guys begging as hard as they can.
A guy who complains about my former 250 AUD price (also has _AU in his name) has been pestering me since forever with "I missed the sale, can I get it cheaper?"
That's how much more impactful ignorance is, over finances.
ugh
And say what you will, 250 AUD is cheap in Australia.
Minimum salary in Romania is around 500 EUR, just to give you a figure. And I've had Romanian customers who never complained about the price simply because they actually understood what Unreal Engine was.
It's not a "the poorer they are, the worse customers they make". It's "the dumber they are, the worse customers they make".
Hmm, you bring up another point about pricing - people in "cheaper" countries can sell better assets for less, leading to price disparity
Yea and unfortunately, I, for one, can't think of any suggestion to deal or partially deal with either of those problems.
Vlad 500 gross before taxes
Indeed!
The only improvement I can think of is better and swifter moderation. For example, I flag improper reviews, but until I sent them an e-mail, nothing gets done.
But other than that, I don't see any way to prevent or slow down this ongoing downfall of the marketplace as a whole.
some quality control on the market wouldnt hurt either
Better searching/filtering would help too
In defense of Epic, there used to be quality control in the earlier days.
i remember flagging this product before, which was essentially 6 cubes and circles being sold for 25$
no textures
not to scale
Since then, though.... the things I've seen...
Feels like Epic have.... stopped being as thorough in a lot of areas in the last few years
I'd imagine they just don't have enough people to handle the workload
Wish they'd hire more
So from what I'm gathering from all the convos here, the general tip is to "Sell the item for what it's worth, and ignore the Newbies demanding handholding with advanced systems" ?
maybe they believe it's publisher's job to met client's expectations. Getting bad reviews will doom that product.
from the times i've been through the checklists with my submissions, it seems they just check the boxes but dont actually care about the product
True. I'm beginning to think they're regarding the marketplace more as a "this is cool" type of endeavour rather than "this is a decent source of income".
hence no one will ever buy it
Sounds like good advice, though "how much it's worth" is a really difficult question
i mean all this nonsense on the marketplace will decrease the sales because your product will just dissapear in this big pile of junk
nobody is gonna buy your product if they cant find it lol
There's already insane amounts of things coming out every week
Though some of it looks quite nice to be fair
yeah music pack 1, music pack 2, music pack3, music pack 4, house music pack 1, house music pack 2
that drives me nuts honestly
I don't get the music/sound stuff tbh
Why are you selling that on Unreal Marketplace?
guys, listen, the only thing that can bring up fairness is if you can sort by quality when you do a search.
The answer is probably because there is no downside to try to sell music here as well.
But I see your point.
Come to think of it, I think it would help a lot if you could filter out things you don't care about
There are far more specialized platforms out there.
For example, suppose you are working on a "realistic" game, so you could filter out heavily stylised assets because they don't fit your theme
Or working on 3D so you don't care about 2D assets, or just generally don't care about music
every online marketplace can sort by ratings
Since the introduction of "search by tags" I haven't looked as discoverability as such a large problem.
The same way you can filter out tags on Steam to have it not really suggest games with those
I think also depends
If you are looking for a specific thing, vs just browsing
then, publishers will have the incentive to provide high quality products to get good ratings, and buyers will be able to find quality products.
the 'new' page is being drown out though, you get a ton of sales through it. and if some guy decided to release his 20 different audio packs (with 5 files each....) your product is gone
would be great if they bundled that type of stuff
What if there was some sort of "like" system like FB has? No attached reviews, no dislikes, just a simple way to "push" assets that you consider to be good, out of the gutter.
but then people will abuse with bots and so on
You can easily prevent bots though, by locking one upvote to one account.
Require 2FA
100 emails
What's wrong with reviews?
Technically doable, but I doubt it because it because it wouldn't be worth the effort
That's starting to make it very hard, especially if it's phone or OATH 2fa
Can't just create 100 phones
actually you can
no, the rating system is fine, just make it so people can use the ratings as a filter
You can also hire out phone farms, they use them for testing phone apps
isnt it like already required nowadays to have 2FA when you sell/buy stuff
then you'll see improvement
But it's starting to get a bit complicated
It has to be a smart sort on ratings though
I like reviews. I didn't propose "likes" as a replacemenr, but as an additional feature, that wouldn't require you to purchase/review that asset. You find something you consider good, you "like" it so others may have a better chance of seeing it on the front page or wherever, without you necessarily buying it.
no "1x 5-star is greater than 99x 5-stars and 1x 1-star"
yeah if filter by rating you're just gonna get all the products that were once free lol
Similar to how YT and FB algorithms work
But then wouldn't you be rating the marketing rather than the actual product
Might be
But even if you end rating the marketing, you and others would still be able to see the reviews and questions and decide for themselves
Maybe not just likes then. Both "likes" and "dislikes"
YT proved it works fairly well
but then people that wanna bury your product will dislike you to death
Yea, but apart from a few hateful customers, most people aren't vindictive
thats why you make them pay a ton, so they essentially have to like it!
or live with the burden of having paid so much for nothing
Even I, having recently said I'm sick of the MP, acknowledge that the vast majority of people aren't bad or unreasonable
It's the fact that those few who are, are very vocal and pestering, that's unbearable
one is enough to destroy your work if he has the tools
But we are all greedy SOBs, muahahahahaa
its a bit of a free for all out there for sure
probably due to people being allowed to say and do whatever
you wouldnt talk like that to people in real life lol
especially as a professional haha
in real life
What's that
:))
its the next generation
*previous
that's the internet man, people tend to forget that pain hurts :D:D:D
People tend to forget that other people actually exist alongside them.
so does spending 400 bucks on a product that doesnt work as well as you thought it did haha
"As well as you thought" and "as advertised" are different things though
I wonder if anyone bought that ocean pack when it was at 700 bucks
I'm not saying it about you. I'm saying it in general
imagine working 3 years on a product, selling it physically in a MP and then comes some guy "this is worthless, it doesn't worth that much. i'll give 30 bucks. :D"
From my experience, people don't get that
oh, 30 bucks, come here in the back to show you something
i wasnt calling anyone out or anything lol
Oh people do that in real life in real shops too
Yea, I didn't mean to sound as if I was calling anyone out either heh
Best one is people who go into charity shops, who are selling things very cheap to make money for charity, and demand they cut the price

the shore line that didnt extend any futher @north stirrup ?
Is there still a spreadsheet around with the marketplace assets?
like all of them?
it probably exploded if it ever did exist
There used to be https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Xi8lX7IThJ9VWPSV-_w5CQIqpC6GhfovviVdQjnrim8/edit#gid=0

@sturdy granite yup. I knew what he was about from the first time he spoke. Just stay clear of bad sellers. Sorry you had to deal with it.
@unreal eagle I didn't when I purchased the plugin around when it first was released (2017ish) but oh well, mistakes were made.
Hey guys,
I wanted to clarify, there was a bug that lead to Brushify going on sale for 70% across the marketplace in the first hours of the sale.
I had originally requested only 50% sale in my email request to Epic. I contacted unreal marketplace support and they fixed the issue.
It was also a shock for me to see my stuff going for those low prices! but these things happen. Thankfuly Epic responded swiftly and professionally.
Sorry for the confusion caused by that and cheers to the lucky ones that grabbed it at 70%!
Cheers,
Joe
Still a bargain for the most part, i picked up the country roads. Great score!
@zealous spire don't worry. That's understandable. You've changed the discount percentage. The problem is with people keeping the discount percentage but increasing the base price. ๐ Awesome products btw.
@north stirrup That spreadsheet would be awesome if it were updated. Everything is generated by javascript so simple google sheets importxml won't work. Can get everything using a program like scrapestorm (running it now to build a new spreadsheet).
Does the marketplace have any other sales like this, or is the Spring Sale the biggest sale of the year?
Holiday sales
Are they also big 70% off sales like this, or do less sellers participate?
If you google "unreal marketplace sale" you can see some of their previous sales. Some advertise up to 90% off.
Sounds good. I'm saving up to buy a bunch although right now I'm not sure what I want or need since I'm a bit new to development.
Unreal tries to find a reason to do a sale near the end of the year (anniversary sale, black friday sale, holiday sale, etc.)
If a marketplace seller doesn't update their product is it ever the case that you're screwed if it doesn't work with the latest version, or can you fix it yourself? Are there any marketplace products that don't reveal the underlying mechanics?
no, even code plugins come with source code
although you can use precompiled dlls
@safe stump - You can always use old projects with newer engine versions. I show how you do that here https://youtu.be/tC9PAU9ChZ0?t=111
Brushify is an asset library and toolset for UE4 that lets you create HUGE playable open worlds.

for example, when i was recording that video I hadn't officially updated my packs to 4.25 yet. But i just force it to install the 4.24 version. ๐
For art assets there are very few things that can go wrong with new versions. Especially if good workflows and conventions were used.
Have plugins broke in the past despite force installing? I know the ChaosDestructionDemo demo project showcasing UE4's destruction ability requires additional code from github in order to run for example, so perhaps some plugins are the same way, and could break?
@north stirrup I'm not sure I understand the implications of precompiled dlls.
code is different to assets, has to be compiled per engine version unfortunately
Do you know what exactly is different that has to be compiled per engine version? Is it a general issue that could be one line of code or something more drastic?
Also I'm not sure if anything like this exists yet in UE4 or the marketplace but I have an interest in AI like GAN's, stylistic transfer, AI that can turn photos into 3D models, AI that can turn text descriptions into photos, and other ML typically done in Python although it is technically possible I think to do much of Python/Tensorflow style ML in C++ with a little work. I'd be in the market for a plugin that would allow for the use of stylistic transfer inside of UE4, and my assumption would be that it would somehow package Python within it or perhaps the dev would need to convert the code to C++ for maximum efficiency. Do you know if anything like this exists that incorporates ML that can be run in either realtime or as a parallel process?
Thank you for submitting your product to the Unreal Engine Marketplace. However...
@safe stump The whole plugin needs to be recompiled for each engine version, even if no changes are needed. If you don't, newer versions won't even try to load them. It's a built-in safeguard to ensure someone or some script verifies compatibility.
TensorFlow has a C/C++ library. If you are to use TF in UE, integrating the Python library is both bad and more time-consuming, as you'd really be writing code that goes from C++ to Python and then back to C++.
I created my account under the older system, but it looks like it's showing blue -> could be an auto-completed field. I have no clue how the form works internally, but make sure you clear the field and type it in manually; if all else fails, try force-reloading (crtl+shift+R) the page or using another browser @ebon leaf
I think this is a "know issue". People asking for stuff outside of the scope of what they bought
people wanting to expand something that was just made for an Overview map to look cool, or something like "hey I just bought your 3D asset, How do I program anything to work the way I want" Oh, you can't do it? fine, I will give your asset one little star ๐
Whats the refund policy if you buy something on the Epic store? Can you return it if you don't like it?
No, the marketplace where you buy plugins.
The epic games store does refunds for up to 14 days as I recall.
Yea no worries .
they won't refund unless there's something actually wrong with the product
So ... I would guess you cannot get a refund. As you would be able to get the content and effectively steal the intellectual property from plugins. I would guess this is one of the problems with selling plugins. Unless you show good video content of what the plugin can do then people might be a bit unhappy about it.
Yeah, thats what I would expect and think to be fair. Buyer beware. Seller have great media that explains what your product does. Simples .
Do epic delete abusive "questions" on product if the author flags them?
How long do they typically take to respond to a flagging?
Thanks I guess I'll just have to wait.
@graceful arrow "After further review, the product has been removed from the sale. While we don't think there was an intent to mislead customers, we recognize that this could be interpreted in that way. We've notified the seller and explained the concern and the reason we took action. "
Yeah, I got that notification.
? (afk, dinner)
Can he just change the base price back down even though its removed from the sale or is there a cooldown before you can alter it again?
No idea.
I'd like to also say, that previously I had remarked on the % change in the Brushify pack during the sale. I've been chatting to Joe, the creator of Brushify and he explained it was an error on Epics part. I've edited by previous comments based on that. I'd also like to publicly apologize to Joe for those comments.
@delicate dove i got the same email ๐
I made a new google spreadsheet to list all the assets with prices, discounts, categories, etc. Data is scraped using parsehub and the spreadsheet will check for updates from parsehub every hour (though has to be manually ran on parsehub for now). Will share the link when parsehub finishes the first full scan.
Parsehub also stores results for 14 days with free accounts, so I plan to add a history to it.
I'm thinking
If you sell assets in marketplace, they can only be used in Unreal Engine
What if you sell
buyers can use it in any engine
well, except for official epic content, or affiliated with epic content.
if you want to convert a blueprint to whatever works for that engine you theoretically are allowed to do so
Though I think that that point you're using it as a guide and creating your own content
That makes so much sense now
Guys, i was recieved a pdf from Eric Games with changes which i need to make, and one of them are: Materials meant for use with mobile platforms must fully render in the mobile preview mode of the editor.
But where i can change that? My material are generally doesnt supported on mobile ๐คทโโ๏ธ
then dont check the box that says "works with mobile"
because thats why they tell you it isnt working on mobile
Oh! iOS! Looks like i forget to uncheck this. I guess that cause my problem, right?
yuz
Thank you Luos ๐
@eager kestrel nice!
I think it'd be super interesting to have a long pricing history
Do you know if it's possible to export the data from parse hub?
Yes, it is definitely possible to download the json or csv file. 14 days to grab it before parsehub removes it.
Scanning all the pages does take longer than they advertise for free accounts. 200 pages in 40 minutes, but I have done 60 pages in 60 minutes.
Yeah, after javascript loads.
Can't you query the marketplace api directly
Wasn't sure how to access it.
Check the requests the page is making
There's an API returning a nice json with all the products
Much cheaper to use that I bet :)
Hehe
Hehe
such an odd number
I think it is the home page
There they are, but only 100 at a time
Otherwise you get "{"status":"Error","errorCode":"errors.com.epicgames.validation.validation_failed","args":null}"
Basically the same thing parsehub is already doing. 117 pages of assets to load through.
But that can be done much faster now.
Sounds right
Parsehub finished. Putting together a new spreadsheet to work without parsehub.
RAW
NAME,URL,CATEGORY,PRICE,SALE,DISCOUNT,STARS,VOTES,RATING,CREATOR,DESCRIPTION
Low poly Sedan 1960 (Classic USSR),https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/en-US/product/low-poly-sedan-1960-classic...
Nope, costs money to setup scheduling with parsehub. The next one will be automated.
The next one?
Making one to just work directly off the marketplace api. That was just the parsehub finished scan that took over 2 hours, haha.
oh haha
What I think would be really useful is making a json dump every day
that way we could have price histories for assets
I'm going to have it do that as well. Save them to a google drive.
You seem to have all that well under control, but lmk if you need any help ๐
Will do. You already pointed me in the right direction.
hehe, I did that parsing a while ago too
although I did it with a dumb python script
only to realize someone already had a spreadsheet showing the same data ๐ข
The JSON files are so large, so I started by pulling out what I specifically need and remaking the JSON file with all assets in one instead of 117 separate files.
The single master JSON file with only the pertinent info is smaller than one of the 100 item JSON files, haha
I think it'd still be useful to store the raw dump, in case we need them later ๐ค
Storage's so cheap nowadays ๐
Yep, all those will be in their separated files, the 117 of them or however many it makes depending on number of assets
Just thought it might be easier to read from 1 file to display in the spreadsheet, hehe
true true
I wonder if one could make a chrome/ff extension to show the price history of the marketplace asset you're on
or if it'd even be worth the time to do so
or if it'd even be legal
I've never messed with making extensions before, but that would be cool.
If google is allowed to cache webpages, then why can't we? hehe
yup, I guess you're right
although it might be different if you're a seller/customer of the marketplace
I did notice that this api does give out info it shouldn't. Some info is only shown to people after they bought the asset or are logged in.
But it shows everything, from what I can tell.
what kind of info?
seller info
Not a big deal since most sellers expect people to get that info
But odd that it would be hidden when not owned, but available to all, even not logged in, when grabbing through the api.
heh
There are browser extensions already which modify pages like this
Steam Enhanced for Steam which adds info like DRM, lowest sales prices, critic review scores, etc., to the pages
So should be possible to do that here too
๐
Man that would be great!
btw, I can't help but notice I'm the 5-stars plugin with the most votes ๐
Giving the plugin for free to get nice ratings sure feels like cheating ๐ค
if i also get it for free, you'll have 49 5 star votes. deal? ๐ค
Fixed the ratings for that spreadsheet. Forgot to copy the formula for the additional 11000 assets from my previous scan, haha.
How many assets are on the MP right now 0_o
11653 or so
Daaaang
omg
"total":11641 could have sworn that was 11650 something the last time I looked.
I thought I knew about most great things on the MP, and then yesterday you guys dropped that water pack and Im like "HOW did I not know about that??"
Which pack?
The one from Eliott?
UIWS
ยฏ\_(ใ)_/ยฏ
Now I cant stop wondering how many other wonderfull things I've missed
perhaps you missed 'fluid interaction tool'
wait what
Has anyone here used the shadersource tools yet?
Havent heard of any of these either, but then again Im usually searching for things that are either useful for programming, or impressive things. Like the voxel plugin, or the stuff S. Krezel does.
Slavq is really good at what he does ๐
Ah so I was right on his name! I just used the MP name because I wasnt a 100% sure xD
His assets are so good!
also a tad insane
I picked up almost all of his assets already. Any asset generator is a must have. To turn 1 into infinite, how can you pass it up?
did he make those trees that like explode and what not
what are some other great marketplace packs you should pick up during sale?
He made 2 big tree things. Idk aboit exploding
there was this really cool tree pack that you could cut up and explode, dont remember the name of it
Interactive Tree Creator can take care of pretty much all your tree needs.
I picked up logic driver pro https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/en-US/product/logic-driver-state-machine-blueprint-editor
yeah that thing looks pretty rad
This tool allows for fast and easy generation of dynamic trees & plants with intuitive drag & drop workflow and many generation parameters.
Now on Marketplace: https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/dynamic-tree-plant-generator
see you can cut them up
i thought that was the coolest thing like
Yeah!
I picked up the challenge of seeing how much of that procedural asset creator I can move to in-game
any opinions on brushify? im thinking about getting two or three packs.
solid quality, good price
hard to go wrong with it
depending on your needs
the stuff performs as well, which is something thats undervalued a lot
need those landscape brushes, im too lazy for a terresculptor => heightmap => unreal => handsculpting workflow
i found this awesome brush pack yesterday
i really like the variation in these
i have one of those, and they seem rather bland in the details
