Haha. What did it just devour? The unicorn?
That duck...
You know what's funny..after all the shit that guy got
He probably had the most "free press" from this release
or last release whatever
Scroll up sometimes 😉
lol
@oak thistle dahell... i have never heard of that plugin. You need to post that in as many more places as possible 0.o
I second the notion to get it up and running in 4.14/4.15 btw! Looks to be a very useful tool IMO
Yeah, I kinda didn't really try because it didn't feel quite ready and there was more I wanted to add. But then I didn't get time to work on it...
even with what it has included (based on the info on that page) you really should promote it... documentation is super time consuming, hell even if all it did was generate an empty table with the names in it it'd still be a great tool, and it does way more than that haha.
Yeah, it works well enough that I've used it for both my marketplace plugins.
I'll try to bring it up to date in the next few days.
You should talk to epic about getting it listed on the marketplace as a free plugin too... could promote some sort of standardised documentation among devs which would be amazing
though I dunno how much work plugin submission is lol
Perhaps. Although I already have one free plugin on the MP, not sure I have the time to provide support for another.
ah yeah... support is a bummer haha. Submit it under another name and don't ever check the account. Might I suggest "TotallyNotAllar" 😛
Haha. It's true, you are allowed to submit a different email address as the support address. Can't imagine they do any checking on whose address it actually is...
haha XD
tbh, free plugins should be provided as is and people shouldn't really expect support IMO... but I also understand how not doing so can lead to damaging your business on paid products so I can totally understand the hesitation to submit because of that.
Yeah. I asked Epic about it previously, from their point of view, they still expect you to provide support.
...derp. I guess I understand that from their point. But eh. Submit it with a $5 price tag 😛
You think people don't expect support when they pay $5? 😉
haha nah I know they do 😛 but at least it'd make you a little money and it'd keep out a certain group of people so it'd lower the support haha
True.
@plush pond Yeah was joking, was just funny cos it was basically all that had been discussed today 😃
Not the first time this has happened to me tho
Yeah, early marketing is not something i do for all our packs. It is extremely weird that they weren't aware of same-name assets, and that they release the same date.
@heady moth you were aware of his product and naming before you submitted yours though?
it's odd that two packs use exactly same name
yeah, that strikes me as odd too
it would be weird if both where "Ultra horror duck omega Z" names.
But since both are Photo Modes, and are basically well.. Photo Modes.. im not surprised the names are identical
any game I know calls it photo mode
id be more weird if both where called Digital Digital Camera mode :p
@quaint cedar Created it a few months ago (longer?) and I think I only sent one tweet. 😉
Been meaning to make an effort to be more active, but I'm just useless at that kind of thing to be honest.
Welp, I tweeted about the plugin now, as I didn't know about it either.
Tagged you in the post
Will try it out for my marketplace products. Can't hurt to have documentation API pages
Cheers. I'll get it updated soon, it won't take long.
@elfin plinth I know @heady moth definitely wasn't aware of his photo mode. I informed her of it not that long ago - after she had told me about hers and already been through submission and such.
All this aside... Epic are meant to have a rule about no generic names. That rule has definitely not been enforced for some time, what with all the inventory systems and radial dials having names that basically say that 😛 so it was only a matter of time until this happened haha
I can't really see the naming convention changing as long as their search works like it works
@elfin plinth agreed
ill laugh if the plugin release this week has a photo mode plugin
It all comes back to those base level issues the marketplace has lol... no one is going to name their photo mode something like "Digital Capture Suite" or anything when that is goign to result in no one ever being able to find it haha
but... they are fixing that soon at least.
yeah, I'm having really huge difficulties even finding the exact assets there, as none of the searches usually mach
they should have a tagging system where people could put tags that search would use as basis
yep. You also can't search by developer XD
They are implementing a tagging system this year sometime.
its the "sometime" that concerns me 😛
december 31st, 11:59pm in the latest timezone available worldwide confirmed XD
I wonder if the feature rotation is going to result in Michael Teusch Sound Design being featured all week because he submitted 25% of the marketplace content released this week XD
it would be nice if a marketplace seller had a Unique Identifier, such as a trademark/company name, that they could use on the marketplace to identify their products and therefore allow generic names that don't get in the way of each other.
ie. [Trademark/CompanyName]'s High Resolution Helicopter Model
it would also promote competition in certain areas to improve your version of generic such and such
Agreed. However there are some company names on the marketplace that really need to be adjusted then... for instance.. "Epic Stock Media" which, as far as I can tell, has absolutely no association with epic lol
ie. "who has the best radar system?" - "Oh thats [Trademark/CompanyName]'s radar system"
Also that seller that has a name that is like 10 words long would be hilarious 😛
yeah they would have to be properly organised like company house
no names like "fartknockers special surprise products"
hey, don't knock FKSSP... those guys make good assets 😛
"ass"ets
Am I right in recalling that I read ages ago some rule saying you can't use a product/trademark name when naming assets/blueprints/etc?
its about time we are allowed to add 5 - 10 tags to our content.
I mean your own name 😉
Because one thing I've been wondering about, is how Epic are going to prevent name clashes with assets and classes.
ahh maybe im jumping the shark then
As more and more people use marketplace Blueprint packs and plugins.
the only reason I had luos's in my pack names was so I could search on luos, but due to their search system being wonkey, it wont show up anything on "Luos" but it will on "Luos's"
thats one SQL statement adjustment to cover . tsk.
Haha, don't worry. I'm sure everyone searches for "Luos's" 😉
hehe
if your product was named "Flatulent Sounds" and your company was Fartknockers Special Surprise Products... then it could still be labelled as "Fartknockers Special Surprise Products' Flatulent Sounds" without violating tradmarks I think
I could change the name, all my packs are ..... Kit, but for something as obvious as photomode, i left it off
"Photomodekittemplatepackasset" #winning
im lucky in the respect I created a new word for my identifying business name. f00n. It's short for buffoon :p
medikit kit
lol @ medikit kit
by st taiku 😛
Don't forget the AAA in front of it
Gotta make sure it appears first on ordered lists
protip... call your company Amazin Asset Association that way Epic can't complain when all your packs start with AAA
your welcome
Tz, what an unfunny idea... runs off to setup a company
lol
I mean, looking at what weird things and situations the marketplace already produced during the past months, I'm amazed that no one actually tried that already
me too honestly 😛
well they already have "AAA" assets don't they? :p
I remember some characters from past
what about calling your company Every Person is crazy (aka epic)
yeah but they disallowed is now
Epic's modular caves
Some creators still list the packs as AAA on the forums. Iron belly usually does for instance.
Art Activated as well
Yeah
"every person is crazy and art addicted " epic aaa - gun
Latest Tech model, AAA quality.
The Art Activated Sci Fi Power Suit Soldier is a AAA quality character model that would make an excellent addition to any game development project.
^ yea that shouldnt be allowed
Lol yeah
who defines AAA quality though? Isn't AAA just a product that costs 10x usual because the budget allows?
I think they actually had the previous models names as AAA something
also, why is it still for sale? it stopped updating after 4.12 <_<
they've changed the names now to Art Activated
they definitely don't look like AAA-quality to me
Epic are super bad at sunsetting packs lol
ahh 0lento defines AAA quality, my bad :p
I couldn't tell tbh. Anything better than a sketchup model looks great to me
Ouch
which, knowing how much people 5 star assets, is really bad...
I think we should get Tony Hart or Rolf Harris to review the art section. "Have you guessed what it is yet?... that's right ! It's a copy and paste effort from Digital Homicide." /plays the wobbleboard and touches kids
@hollow falcon well, if sellers can define it, why can't customers?
absolutely. I wouldn't expect anything less from a marketplace that strives to keep QA to a high level
just making food and had the best idea for a marketplace pack fore someone else to make
a plugin that orders pizza, both directly from within the engine and in runtime. Every game jam, that baby is gonna sell like crazy
lol
Assuming within time limit of course. Otherwise, pizza lockout.
no more game delays ever XD
What about a roguelike plugin, where if your blueprint gets a compile error it deletes your entire project
oh god
you could make an entire gam jam around that one 😛 one with the most in tact project at the end wins XD
an asset flip plugin could be a hit just makes random game from your MP content and submits to greenlight
isn't that prett ymuch every asset? 😛
and every time Jim makes a video about it, you press the flip assets button, and it just replaces box1 with box2 etc.
haha
@delicate dove One fresh Kitatus Medikit Kitten Kit ™ coming right up
I've seen some people sell their stuff on gumroad and advertise those assets on the forums, what your view on this ?
Epic does not
5% is only on cooked games, not the assets, regardless where you publish them
Epic does not like you to publish assets that contain epic assets if you're not selling on the MP
Citating stefanie: "2) What if we make an asset for the engine and sell it outside of the Marketplace?
If you make anything for the engine and sell it on your own, you will need to pay the 5% royalties if you generate more than $3,000 of revenue. "
Ex. They don't like you selling an asset pack that contains a lot of infinity assets if you don't sell on mp
And @ebon leaf that might be incorrect, I talked to a legal worker at GDC and I was informed it was not falling under 5%
well, i don't particulary like buying a bunch of infinity assets either, be it from the MP or else
@heady moth Oh ok, thanks for that info
Pretty sure we've had this discussion like 10 times in here and gotten varying different answers straight from epic every time lol
Long story short, there's no clear answer or written anywhere so we're left in the dark. But also makes it hard for them to enforce a 5% cut on that.
That said - I don't know anyone making over 3k a quarter outside of the marketplace due to the fact that traffic in those marketplaces are so low haha
good point 😄
true dat
re: AAA Chars: I dont thing there is something like a general AAA Quality. AAA basically just means Highrisk, High budget Titles. IIRC its derived from economics / Venture Capitals. @elfin plinth @hollow falcon
I don't see an issue with people using third party marketplaces. I do it myself for some of my packs and it allows my customers to get a far better experience when it comes to updates and such, as they are available the moment I upload them, rather than the 1-day -> 1-month turnover for updates on the launcher, depending on how messed up things are at epic at the time you send it to them lol
But I think you'd be silly to ONLY sell on those marketplaces... the exposure on the UE4 marketplace is unmeasurably higher lol
and even that is still rather low exposure wise
Yep
so many people that never ever find out about the learning tab, let alone marketplace tab
I have customers that I have worked with closely for weeks on one of my packs, and then they are like "Oh... you have more than one pack?! I never knew..." lol
or having your own pack suggested to you by people XD
haha I haven't had that one just yet 😛 but tha twould be hilarious
"could you make something like this"
- "I made that"
"Oh, never knew"
haha XD
I had an idea for a pack, but i dont want to be the next yellow duck
Post it on the forums during development and ask for feedback if you are worried about how people will receive it 😃
someone will eventually find out i put a contant into the roughness channel
just hook it up to a MPC and use blueprints to randomise it every tick during runtime 😛 then you can tell them it's not a constant XD lol
😄
lol, that's kinda the scenario i imagined
hahahaha
That's accurate
<_<
tho i didnt want to point fingers 😄
haha
you win all my interwebcookies @ebon leaf
thats gonna go on my fb/twitter page
no worries, i dont hold many grudges
but you are first on my hitlist now, just fyi
yay! I'm first XD
@heady moth @ebon leaf if you read EULA, it definitely shouldn't fall under that 5%. But if you look at responses from marketplace staff in general, it's pretty clear that you can't trust their opinions on legal matters, they don't have training for that and they don't seem to consult their legal team before they answer.
I wish it wasn't so
but that's not actually all that uncommon for other places too, I've seen in past that Unity Asset Store support doesn't know even their own marketplace terms
Hey @elfin plinth, I think I can shed some light on why there is a bit of confusion here. Technically, both situations are true and it is asset specific. If an asset uses any product by epic to be made, it will have a 5% royalty on other sites. This is things like blueprints or code plugins that make use of Epic's code base. Other products, such as 3D models, do not have a royalty applied if they were not made with Epic software.
they would still be uassets, using the material editor O_o
@proven lily Actually that's not true either, you can't put anything Epics content on third party sites
your eula directly forbids that
well, you can put mannequin and template stuff
as they don't fall under the restricted part
if there is a question about a specific asset and whether it would or would not require a royalty, the best thing to do is to go to the legal and licensing answerhub here: https://answers.unrealengine.com/spaces/31/legal-licensing.html
@proven lily, I don't mean to disrespect but how can we be sure that that's the case? I have Epic employees that work around Legal tell me that that is not the case. Blueprints, and other packs are almost impossible to not contain one single Epic asset(Think of mannequin, cubes, basic materials), if those don't apply then where does the line get drawn. I much prefer to get an answer directly from Epic Legal team than a marketplace employee but as history has proven, every time this discussion has risen it turns out that it does not apply as it only applies to cooked games, not other content.
the individuals who answer on this portion of the answerhub are specifically from the legal team, and would be the best people to ask in cases where there is any confusion
your eula directly says that 5% applies only for what end user pays for the project, it can't cumulate on individual steps as that would break your own eula
also ```However, no royalty is owed on the following forms of revenue:
- Revenue from a Product which is only Distributed to Engine Licensees (such as through the Marketplace);```
In that case we should've been directed to that page directly, rather than hearing/reading a possible truth
^
That is a fair point @heady moth, I believe my understanding is correct, however, if there are any legal questions, it is best to direct them to the legal and licensing answerhub
Well this is where the discussion is based on, conflicting answers from non-legal team members. Unless the EULA changed since I talked to the legal person at GDC this has not been changed. Selling elswhere(going further on @elfin plinth), it is not falling under royalty if it's through licensees only, and taking that the files are .Uasset, they can only be accessed by licensees.
Again, if there is confusion, the best place to go is the legal and licensing answerhub. I am not on that team and am not equipped to answer the finer points you are posting here. Canon would be your best bet.
okay... but who at Epic do I talk to about fixing my toaster 😛
That would be Jerry in Toaster management and acquisitions, but his main office is at your local best buy 😉
"local" best buy? ah bugger... #Australia
my next mesh will be a duck headed unicorn...in the low poly stylized style
btw, that image of the duck in a horror setting is pretty horrifying
Editing marketplace pack information is now live!
"Editing marketplace pack information is now live!"
fook yes, adding penisses everywhere!
i mean, great now I can tweak content!
lol 😛
thats a lot of editing hehe
They managed to get all forum links and social links removed from my threads
had to readd them
packs*
they removed them from the packs on purpose
they're supposed to be in your profile now, or something
I think they put too much faith in your average user to click on the author's name when they want to look for contact info
Well, forum thread links can not be on the profile
now that it seems the search keys in on words in the short description, time to tweak
here's my new short desc: A pack of high quality skull and bone props for adding atmosphere to any project (Luos Allar Epic Unreal AAA)
I keeed
don't forget "epic unity steam free"
lol
they've made it to the early 2000's...maybe soon they'll be at mid 2000's tech
well, not mid as in 2500 :/ you know what I mean
@ebon leaf "Cancel" button after you pressed "Edit" button also would be nice.
I agree
@viral zinc yeah man... that's what years of hard work gets you XD lol
haha
marketplace team goes wild, next feature online
@ebon leaf and what is that?
oh yeah just found it
it's a little hidden actually, if not announced I'd probably never noticed it 😄
nice start
Seems like the search algo has improved too, no?
Don't know why only certain stuff shows in auto-complete, but the results seem somewhat sane now anyway.
Its still blah
For example
Ah
You said what I was gonna say but differently and now I interpreted them correctly
So pretend I was never here
@proven lily Hey Adam, the thread you posted about asset description pages seems to be aimed purely at sellers, shouldn't it be in the Creators' subforum?
Also, what's the reasoning behind taking contact links off the asset page? I think not having them so obvious will lead to more people posting stuff in the comments that should really belong in an email.
[QUESTION] Does Marketplace license cover "Export" of the assets?
its allowed, since you are allowed to edit the content, as long as the end result is used in ue4
(afaik)
@delicate dove you can use marketplace content in any game engine, say for example in Unity. Only items that restrict that on marketplace are ones from Epic as they separately mention you can only use them on Unreal Engine based products
that wasnt a thing a while back though? afaicr
it's always been like that
same with Unity Asset Store, you can use their content just fine on Unreal
of course you have to port them to UE4
but for example, I use many audio packs from unity store in UE4
yea, mustve mixed it up with me telling people on answerhub over and over again they cant use the inf. blade content in unity :p
technically, you can even use Unity's tech demo content in UE4 as they don't forbid it, but some items on them have some limitations (which are limited on Unity as well, not just outside of Unity)
yeah, blade content is strictly UE4 only 😃
would be weird though to see someone print out 3d models from ue4 marketplace and put em into a blender
not blender, but a blender
a blender blending blenders made in blender, printed and put in a blender
@tender flame but yeah, I second what Luos said, you are free to modify the content you bought, it's in the EULA
if you make it look like trash, it might be polite to not credit the original asset provider for it though 😄
haha
@delicate dove @elfin plinth there's "UE-Only Content" in EULA, but only it's definition. Not mentioned anywhere.
“UE-Only Content” means Content that is designated in the Marketplace as usable only in conjunction with the Engine Code.
For UE-Only Content, you may exercise your rights under the License only if and to the extent that the UE-Only Content is utilized in combination with the Engine Code. For example, you may not develop or Distribute a Product that consists of or contains UE-Only Content but does not contain and require the Engine Code (including as modified by you under the License) for its use. The UE-Only Content is subject to all of the terms of this Agreement that apply to Content, as well as the additional limitations described in this paragraph. All references in this paragraph to UE-Only Content include modified versions thereof made by you under the License.
Also, I couldn't find any Marketplace related stuff in current EULA.
@tender flame "UE-Only Content" is exactly that mentioned Epics content
if you look at their marketplace pages, they clearly state that
@elfin plinth so, i have to define it myself?
I hope not, at least I would not pay a dime for UE-Only content some third party provider made
I'm not sure if Epic even allows it
@elfin plinth access to MP have any user that accepted EULA, but current version have no any statements about MP assets
it's there only to make sure the free content Epic gives to their users will not end up in games made with other engines
yeah, the eula is bit hard to read for marketplace stuff but stuff is there
I wish they had a separate EULA, like Unity does
@elfin plinth at least appendix
Well they have a seller agreement, which kind of explains some end user eula but that's for sellers and i don't think buyers have to agree to it
@heady moth SELLER, not BUYER
Well that's what i just said
But it explains something
I doubt they conflict so maybe there's some useful info in there
@heady moth my original question was Does Marketplace license cover "Export" of the assets?
I am aware
@heady moth ok 😃
@heady moth well Epic said the buyers have to accept the EULA too to use Epic content, aswell there are Epic friends etc that can jump over that at sell in outside stores content
Hey, @oak thistle, to answer your earlier question. We thought about placing this in the Creator's Hub. However, with the contact information being moved, we wanted to make sure we made an announcement so that the community could see where they could still get the support information. For the other question. The reason we have made this change is we are pushing to create a centralized hub for a content creator's products that they have more control over. We have some more stuff in the works in this regard, but we're not ready to announce anything as of yet.
@proven lily Thanks Adam. In that case, can I just suggest considering some way to make it clear to customers what the support channel is when they buy a pack? Perhaps there already is, it's a while since I bought one.
I just have found that people tend to post quetions on the product comments/youtube comments, rather than sending an email. Makes me thing it's perhaps not made obvious enough, and the recent move would only reduce chances of people being aware of it I think.
Otherwise, I like the idea of a seller's hub very much.
Having the same here, I keep forgetting to check product comments :p
I can definitely discuss this with the team
would be nice if we finally get an email when someone comments on the product :p
@proven lily Greetings! Could You comment an EULA discussion above? The "export" question.
Email could be more expensive to implement and support than making a simple notification tab with all new comments at Seller's Profile, which probably only requires to make simple UI for the web page and send a request to the database. Because I guess many of sellers checking their statistics once per day, it would be fine to see such notifications there and it's faster/cheaper to do (probably can be implemented in 1 working day).
https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/dream-apartments
I'm planning to purchase this. Is it possible to reuse (export) the models here to 3ds Max/Blender and create a derivative work from it?
Hi Alex, any EULA discussions, as mentioned yesterday, would be best served on the legal and licensing answerhub here: https://answers.unrealengine.com/spaces/31/legal-licensing.html
I can provide very general answers, but when you have specific questions, it is best to post there
http://i.imgur.com/VUwm500.png Oh nice new assets
oh Mouse King... nice... Now I have a playable character to use for my unicorn riding duckhunt game 😃
............
nice one
so, we are allowed to submit your first ever 3D models too?
I don't see it on my marketplace
I think it's photoshopped
I hope so
I can tell by the pixels
Yeah you can tell by the way they are
Nah it's there... it just doesn't show up for some reason... you have to go into the "memes" category...
lol
XD
Thanks 😃
Downloadable playable demo if you wanna give it a spin 😛 has a fun zombie killing game in it haha
that sounds interesting 😃
Links are on the marketplace page if you wanna give it a go 😃 Both win64 and mac versions haha.
It's nothing special 😛 btu a bit of dumb fun lol
This was interesting.
As an author of one of them, I can say that this is sad.
Tried to buy some assets on the Marketplace. Found that I can't do this due to some strange error. Wrote to Marketplace Support. They said that everything is fine and I should contact to the Payment Provider. Wrote to Payment Provider and they said that everything is fine and it's a problem on Marketplace side. Absurd. Looks like I will miss those sexy main menus...
What happened?
I don't know. Looks like bug in checkout process.
Here's how it's looks like. Meanwhile Xolla support (payment provider) told me that my account is not blocked and marketplace support also didn't find any problems on their side.
There's been a number of changes to the marketplace lately... I wonder if they forgot a comma somewhere or something
<_< also kind of.. well.. mentionable that someone 1-starred celestes photo mode.
That was me
I wonder why not merge ratings with reviews, like it done in Unity Asset Store / Android/iOS markets. At least sellers will be able to know the reasons why customers left negative rating...
That's planned afaik
@silent shoal Are you like in Iran or something?
@gaunt flicker Russia
@gaunt flicker Guys from Xsolla tried to reproduce error and they're successfully did it.
Sounds like you're gettin shitted on this week
Yep. It's a worst week in this year for me. And marketplace troubles is only a small piece of my problems...
Your 3 days old pack has already been featured longer than all my packs combined :S Things could be worse
You didn't lose a lot. Being featured won't affect sales too much. At least by my experience.
Actually I really don't know what kind of method will affect them with some guarantee.
Hmmm I don't have information about this from many creators but those all said the opposite
@ebon leaf Yes, I know. As I said, I'm talking about my experience. A year ago things were much better and I guess two years ago it was a heaven for sellers in terms of sales. But now I see that for the 3 first days I got 2 sales. Same thing with my few previous projects, which were also featured, but still got 0-1 sales per day in the first week. I guess now everything depends on projects, not marketing and if your project is impressive, then you really don't need to do any additional promotion.
we are all getting less sales over the last two years.
that's expected however
there's actually more items to buy nowadays
which is actually the normal situation
when marketplace was new, it was more like monopoly for sellers
which of course gave more money for the first sellers there as there was no competition
but that's not healthy situation
i totally understand that hehe
but to get back to current state of marketplace
do sellers get transaction ID's nowadays?
like IDs for reported sales, or do you still have to request that data?
or do you still have to fly blind and trust epic that their numbers are correct?
still have to request that
hope so
to me, them hiding the data sounds always fishy
i totally agree
if they have nothing to hide, why not generate that data in report?
and since we now only get one sales report a day, instead of close to real time..
and that change happened when people started to wonder about negative sales figures I think..
yea
of course sellers want to know why those are there, but now that they don't show in final report, they can't ask what happened
when the first big credit card fraud was found
sometimes it does when the sales say "0 sales" instead of not showing any sales for that pack
but not if you had i.e. 3 sales and one gets refunded.
so you see 2 sales, and will never know
stumbled across this on youtube; some guy is offering to give away marketplace assets in exchange for subscribers - should I report it to epic?
unless he's the author of the asset, definitely
he isnt the author, he has other videos offering assets from different authors. reporting now
Yeah definitely report. I'm going to as well
We need the authors of those packs to do dmcas don't we?
well, use the reporting system anyways. Copyright stuff is always "creator of or legal representative of creator" only -.-
lol wtf... 11 part tutorial series without voice over
yeah... i just wasn't gonna bring attention to it lol
emailed kubold... but they are closed on weekends lol
How can someone be that silly, I hope Epics legal department can do something here
I always love it when websites like youtube have no report reason "Piracy"
I mean, srsly?
I can report him for all kinds of stuff, but not for distributing stuff
You can report it for "this breaches my copyright" or something like that -.- that's it
I had a think about it, since he cannot legally give away what he's offering, doesnt that make it fraud? Is silly about the report though, only the authors can do anything about it
From what I can tell, in general, pretty much only the author, or the author's legal representatives, can ever do anything on any site -.-
Because youtube itself is not the distributor of content, only videos. Copyright infringement is as close to piracy, when it comes to videos.
Hence why the no "piracy" report reason. @quaint cedar @delicate dove
Oop, there's literally nothing anyone but the creator can do to report it 😦
Most we can do is report for fraud.
Basically if you want to report it;
Hope that helps, guys. I hate to see people doing this type of thing. Aside from me personally believing freedom is good, making someone starve because of it, is definitely not okay 😅
if it occurs in the US, and it crosses State boundaries, that ramps up the legalities of it a lot, bottom line is, it can go to the FBI at that point, and they have an online reporting mechanism
he's probably 10 years old
why would he make all those milestone subscriber videos with 22 subs
UWorks Demo - Freshly uploaded. Give it some time for 1080p
Demo contains: intercepting Steam chat in-game, browsing Steam servers, registering a server on Steam
10/10 @lean venture Would be very keen on getting my hands on UWorks
@dark smelt thanks! Let's hope it gets accepted!
O.o
jesus, thats quite a hit
No email i presume?
Nope.
I'd make a forum thread
or wait for the email to arrive once you mention in public you havent had one yet :p
Maybe it's from same buyer and they decided buying your affordable landscapes was a better deal? Heh
You keep putting out deformed planes floating in a void, and you wonder why people are refunding!
😹
Possibly someone bought all of them to see which they liked
And then concluded that the collective price was more than the pack
So they refunded everything and bought the pack
But honestly I didn't even know I could get refunds
Wish I'd known before xD
looks like one buyer bought a stack, then refunded the lot right away
I received an email.
Saying these 9 packages were refunded because of fraudulent purchases, while I see refunds on 8 packages only. Not sure where the 9th came from.
But that doesn't matter.
that sucks
that ain't no "dwelf", that's a hobbit: https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/dwelf
but I guess that's still under copyright
"Dwelf" makes me think of some LOTR Dwarf on Elf action.
That's what the short description says 😮
Dwelf makes me think of an elf who dwells way to much on his life decisions
A dwarf dong would break an elf! Unless we're talking about Rockseer Elves.
@wooden falcon could possibly be copyrighted still.
How much in advance do I need to ask for a sale again? @proven lily
2 weeks
.>
@proven lily Is there going to be a community pick poll this month? Usually it's up and running by now 😛
Yea I need to vote for the duck
lol we all need to vote for the duck. obey the duck. quack. quack. quack.
I am 100% voting duck only
Ducks are good and all... but everyone loves explosion, so why not consider vote [1] for BOOM! Explosions Toolkit, then [2] and [3] on duck 😉 lol
I know 😦 Very foolish of me. I underestimated his quackiness.
guys what you think
looks really nice! @thorny zenith
obviously the duck and the unicorn are going to be high on the list for community pick...or was the unicorn from last month? All time seems to be skewed around it
unicorn was last month
how is your expiriance with selling on store?
is it worth it?
i was think to start make items in my free time
if you offer a quality product, preferably duck or unicorn related, it's a nice experience
slaps @wooden falcon
lol, how do you mean unicorn related?
i was think to start byu make few music instruments
maybe later gas pumps
i dont know, some sofas, i wasnt think to make one, but maybe bundle, like 5 sofas...
is it worth, becouse i also have oportunity to work freelance
but i like idea of not have preasure whan will i finish, and just work whan i have time
just, let say, in few year, will that time repay?
and i am not beginer, i work advertise and movies mostrly, i am using, painter, mari... zbrush for long time, and i already work for 2 years on next gen game title, so i know PBR pipeline...
only thing i dont know, and i would like to learn, is how to make complex shader, i know in teaory
but in my company, programers are doing materials, and we only do id, color map, normal map, masks... and than put all of it in engine, and just twick parametars... so only what is still have to learn is how to make shader to do same as we have in studio
but i already work with nodes on designer so it should be easyer than someone who just start
just want to know, if i do quality items, can i expect some selling in next few years, or is it more for people who just finish school and want to spend some time doing something before real job come
Information for graphics programmers writing shaders.
yah, if you make good stuff, it'll probably be worth it FanARTic
i know that turbosquid is realy bad to start now, becouse your model dont even come in first page, no mater how good it is, becouse there is so many artists who doing that for 10 years full time, and thay get benifits for that
nah, the other marketplaces aren't worth it
unity to a certain degree, but it's overloaded
my friend, was try there, and he work in ILM as lead modeling artist, and still, get only 4 sales in 1 year...
cool
yah, I have a pack on unity...I only get a sale or two a month there
but as for UE4, certain types of packs tend to sell better, I think
there are some blueprint packs that sell extremely good...I think the music packs are the ones that sell poorly, at least the last time they released any info on it
environments are good sellers, I think
depends on the quality and the usefulness, of the pack
"I think the music packs are the ones that sell poorly, at least the last time they released any info on it" Not surprised
this was what I meant when I referenced the unicorn, btw: https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/fat-unicorn
That thing did not deserve its sales
lol
And it's precedent for other crap to be published
lol, one of the comments on that page: "My Modern apartment with 100 meshes doesn't get accepted and this does. You had one job, ONE JOB."
🙃
and then there's this: https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/little-yellow-duck
I'm not sure which would win in a fight to the death
cool, i get fealing like not to many artist make models for store... and for me, that look like good side earning on long time, without fighting with deadlines (last year i was work for 40 days on my full job, and freelancing on another project with only 5-7 hours of sleep per day)
thx for info guys, i will give store chance with 2-3 bundles and see how it go
Big launch day today, 2 new crossbows coming out and our first WW2 weapon. We've definitely reached the saturation point of weapons in the marketplace, so I'm keen to see how well this MP40 sells as it will inform us if we're going to make any more WW2 firearms, or anymore firearms at all for that matter
I wonder if I can upload a chemical weapon effect and sell it. I have this idea for an invisible gas. Pretty sure I can skip the PBR requirements too !
I am sure a lot of Syrians would appreciate it?
@real dust - Definitely not as much as I was hoping. We look at about a 16-20 month period before we break even on each weapon
I mean there's an argument to be made that we don't need to spend quite as much time making our guns look as good as they do, but our goal has always been to level the playing field for Indies so they can pump games out that are on par, visually, with AAA games. In which case we might be seeing a shorter breakeven period but we're in it for the long haul
Damn :/
Speaking of assets though, are there issues with todays updates, usually the new content is up by now
Hey there. I was just wondering if I could get your opinion of what the marketplace needs in terms of audio assets, specifically when it comes to voice overs. Is there anything that you're like "Why doesn't the marketplace have puking spider sounds?!" Or like, whatever. I'm a VO guy by trade, and I ran a game locatization company for years, and have access to a bunch of actors.
hmm, not sure how well that sort of stuff sells
I'm sure monster noises would be cool
@wooden falcon yeah, you're probably right. Every game has it's own unique requirements for audio. What about a bunch of standard lines? LIke a countdown, "match begin" etc. Probably too generic though.
Hey everyone, sorry for the delay in release. Released content is out now, we'll have the community poll up as soon as possible.
Lol... There's basically an Octodad template on the marketplace.
Well, the more generic the better, Jezza, I'd think
Epic doesn't really release information on what sells (they gave us a general idea once, so we'd stop sending rock packs)
(rock packs secretly sell the most)
The Community Interest Poll is ready for everyone! https://forums.unrealengine.com/showthread.php?141608-Community-Interest-Poll-March-2017
Excellent. Everyone vote for the duck first, and my BOOM! pack second. I don't mind playing second fiddle to great art XD
I'm working on a "German" VO asset pack. I say "German" because it's in English with a strong German accent with the occasional German phrase. Perfect for any WWII FPS or RTS. what do you think? Hot....or not?
sorry, it seems we missed a pack or two, we're going to update and re-add the poll in a bit.
Hmm, do those who have already voted have to vote again?
it'll be up by tomorrow morning after we've double checked to ensure it is ready to go!
yes, sadly the votes won't be counted to provide fairness to all of the packs
No worries.
so anybody who voted and is not in this chat will also be notified of them having to revote?
Yes, I am writing up a post now
for the forums
We hadn't had a chance to move it to featured before the error was caught, so posting there will be unnecessary
ah alright
how bout a German art house voice over? "The player reflected on ze futility of life and said to the monster: 'End it now, for God is dead...'"
@wooden falcon Ha! Classic! Add some "Hans und Franz" in there, and you got a deal.
just watch a heap of Sniper Elite and copy their shit. People in let's plays seem to love that 😛
@ebon leaf good call.
VOTE DUCK

I won't reward that Duck
lol... so I guess our votes stay? Cause I'm getting the same message as @delicate dove
BOOM gets my 1st place vote
Allar, trying to rig the voting because reasons :p
@wooden falcon thank you sir XD much appreciated!
yea, but why the duck O_o
I'd vote crates if possible
some people just want to watch the world burn
so back to my point :p
game scene idea...duck walking away from BOOM explosions in slow mo

Easier to highlight issues when more people can see them

lol omg. Someone please make it
well.. i was saying that in poor english :p
ah, it did keep the original votes afterall. I'll let the team know so we're aware of this in the future. Thanks for the heads up, Luos!
All hail duck
Duck FTW
hmm... but... look at that sweet explosion in the background

perhaps BOOM! for number two? 😉

lol um... thanks? XD
LOVE ME
but... You haven't even shown me your roughness map yet 😛
its for sale on the marketplace
"101 roughness map values"
basic materials with 101 variations between 0-1 values
I just... I don't PBR on the first hug. I'm just not that kinda material.
Can we specular first? 😛
Woot! I accept cookies for this conversation 😛
Probably going to release the pack I teased with this soon- https://soundcloud.com/phantumus/hell-hath-a-new-king similar aggressive 80s horrorcore inspired tracks
I make scary electro music and original soundtracks.
@timid elm woah. Feels like I'm in a teenie 90's horror movie set in a rave.
Is there some information available on how popular each engine version is atm? I'm wondering how far backwards I should provide compatible versions of my package. How many people are still using 4.12, 4.13, 4.14?
Based on my customers, most people only ever use the current and one version back. But if you can easily do it, support as many as you are happy to (for instance, I don't understand why model submissions WOULDN'T go back a long way) as it looks better on the marketplace product page to some people 😃
I messed up and developed my project on a custom 4.16 build. Migrating the assets back to a previous version doesn't work, so I might as well just redo it in an older version than 4.15.
Depending on what it is, yeah. If it's blueprints, if you utilise certain functionality, then there are some versions that are a lot more difficult to simply step up from 😛 for instance, projects making heavy use of timers will be a lot more work from 4.12 -> 4.13 because of the changes made there (not the best example, but easy one that came to mind lol)
I only have material functions. I know an arctan node was added in 4.15, which is not available in 4.14. But I can add that, no problem. Other than that, no idea what changes from 4.10 to 4.14, which specifically affects my project. But based on your info, I'll probably just go back to 4.13 or maybe 4.12.
You'll be fine if you go back to 4.14 or 4.15, but if you are happy to do the work for 4.12 or 4.13 I think it's beneficial shrugs again, just based on my customer base
I know a number of people who like, even on new products, seeing that "backdated" support simply because they take it as a indication of the sellers thoroughness (which is inaccurate IMO, but it is what it is lol)
K, thanks for the info. Much appreciated.
No worries 😃
Hey @proven lily , might want to fix the link in here on the marketlpace page for the poll..
Also, if you click on the 'free' bit it goes to try and buy the poll (for free)... wouldn't it be better for it to be rigged up as an external link in the same way that some plugins are?
Thanks! and that should be linking to the poll as well. I'll take a look and see what is going on
No worries.
alright, should be good to go now, the links decided to give me a bit of a run 😉
Yep all sorted 😃
Hey guys, its maybe stupid alittle but when payout is happens from marketplcae?
You’ll be paid monthly within 45 days following the end of any month where the cumulative payment due to you is at least $100. Any accumulated account balance under $100 will be paid within one calendar year.```
That's actually incorrect if you read the actual license
They always pay 45 days later, never really earlier except by a few days
Thanks
It may be incorrect but it's what's on their site
@gaunt flicker your recent video really has opened my eyes on the best game design method within the engine. Thank you sir. Have you considered making this a marketplace plugin? 😛
that face when you notice you got two sales on your birthday: 😃
that face when you notice the next day that they were made with fraudulent charges and reversed: 😦
aww, happy birthday for yesterday 😛
@ebon leaf Sort of a test of new content for my new blog setup
This is a common question asked when people are new to Unreal Engine. This question is a good way to spark a tired debate. If you aren't able to make this decision for yourself I have created an easy to use guide. This guide is also helpful when you find
Ah. Very helpful lol.
Well, to be fair, it is. People should be holding the opinion you put forward in your very carefully constructed video.
I look forward to seeing the dislikes grow rapidly though lol
aye
lol... it already has one /facepalm
thx poison
I don't have time to be concerned with likes/dislikes, otherwise I'd never have any content
haha yeah I agree with that outlook. They are a good metric of stupidity though 😛
unity's doing a sale this month
i look forward to a random rush of asset flips on greenlight before it dies 😛
hehe
you have to have updated or gotten your pack on the store within the last 6 months, so I'm hoping I can beat the rush with a quick update
maybe I'll get a sale this month :/
@ebon leaf Which video? Interested in workflow-y things 😃
@idle token I was referring to this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flEtQBPtBTc though it may not be exactly what you are looking for 😛
ahh lol okay 😄
We didn't get emailed that we can now edit our product listing? 😦
There was a forum sticky made about it.
as well as an announcement in here.
But no, no emails
Is there any event sale planned for easter ?
Sure as heck hope not, honestly
All the sales are decreasing value of the assets
It's like people waiting for sales on Steam nowadays because people know something will be on sale
i dunno steam sales obviously work
Submitted to the Marketplace: https://forums.unrealengine.com/showthread.php?141926-TwitchPlugin-Everything-you-need-for-Twitch-in-UE4-well-Almost!
If anyone wants to Test it let me know i`ll drop ya a Zip file with the Plugin ❤
That plugin sounds very useful 😃 I don't twitch at all 😛 but it's definitely a big audience that does so nice work
Also... It would appear that Epic have made a stealthy improvement to the marketplace suggestive search... As little as about 1 week ago, if you typed in "map" in the search, it only suggested a single result... now...
@proven lily we always hound you guys for bad things 😛 so... nice work on that (see above) XD
minimap still doesn't show mini map xD
I wonder how incremental progress is being achieved here, because dropping in a fuzzy search algo isn't incremental xD
lol @ minimap not showing that... but not surprised. It's also only searching through the titles, not taking any of the short description or anything it seems 😛 so... yeah
yeah i found some stuff i didnt find while searching
you can chalk two missed sales from me on count of poor search
but... at least you don't need to type "Luos's" now XD
@harsh coral lol yeah... I think there's probably a lot of that tbh. But it's nice to see improvements being made, even if they are very minute and slow 😛
Anyone know if MP code plugins have the same license as other types of packs (shareable amongst team), or if they are per-user?
If the former, is there some procedure to getting it installed under multiple accounts?
They are shareable among teams. In order to do it you need to put the plugin into the project folder, under a folder called Plugin.
So you install the plugin tot he project, rather than the engine for the project, if that makes sense
@oak thistle just saw the post by techlord - I assume you are responding to that now or should I? 😛
Haha all good. Just didn't see the point in doubling up with info 😛
So I guess that means unfortunately there's no way to do it that lets each team member keep the pack up-to-date via the launcher?
No there isn't. But, to be fair, there's not for any othe rpack type either 😛 You have to update the files to have an update. Same process for the plugin.
also, disclaimer - this is all just based on my own experimentation 😛 i've not seen anything covering it anywhere beyond discussion of the licensing anyways
TBH - plugins make working in teams difficult in general from my experience. You are better off installing them to the project if you are going to work in a team. When we tried using a plugin with perforce that we both owned, the project had a whinge when we both went with it installed to the engine lol
Yeah, although in my experience, it's often Perforce that makes things difficult 😉
perhaps, though i've never had any issues with it otherwise 😛 but installing the plugin to the project worked like a charm haha, so we just do that now, regardless of who owns what lol
our situation is a bit more complex than most though, as I'm working on PC and my dev partner works on Mac
Okay yeah that would complicate things a bit more I guess. Though if the engine plugin has all binaries built it should work anyway.
My main contract project uses a lot of plugins, some I've written, some from the MP. Most are at project level, but some stable ones we each install at engine level to keep the project and source control streamlined, and haven't had any major headaches.
If plugins are installed at the engine level and the engine is on sc, no issues
Mixing and matching means issues
@oak thistle @ebon leaf I wouldnt be so sure about that, they changed eula few versions back to cover code based assets that are licenced for single user.. TBH the whole EULA / marketplace licensing is a complete mess atm. They should really take example of unity asset store here as they have clear terms
As buyer, I dont atm know if that code plugin limitation applies to all code plugins or just ones that state that (and I havent seen any asset to mention that separately)
@elfin plinth Yeah that's why I asked, I thought I'd read something about per-seat licensing.
But this suggests otherwise: https://publish.unrealengine.com/faq
Any link you know of to official info on what you mentioned?
@oak thistle ue4 eula
changelog has this ```EULA version 10:
Introduces per-seat paid plug-in licensing to the Marketplace, as well as the concept of pass-through Marketplace licensing (where content is displayed on and linked from the Marketplace, but purchasing and licensing occurs directly with the seller).
eula itself has this ```4. Paid Content
Epic may make Paid Content available to you for a fee. Your License to Paid Content is subject to your payment of the associated fee. In addition, your Paid Plug-in Users’ use of any Paid Plug-in under the License is subject to your payment of the associated fee for each Paid Plug-in User for that Paid Plug-in.```
but in the nutshell, this is a complete mess and buyer doesn't truly know what is being bought
it's totally unacceptable IMO but they still keep running business like this
we shouldn't need a lawyer to know what their terms are
they should be available on marketplace as human readable text that clearly states the terms
IMO, original UE4 eula was good and clear
it got all messed up when they started adding marketplace and launcher things into it
and now it's a huge mess that nobody can fully understand
there's a simple solution to all this, and it's to separate the launcher/marketplace license from UE4 EULA
but for some reason they never did it
also
if you look at marketplace on launcher or https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/
there's no link to the terms anywhere there
so people just have to know it's under UE4 EULA
even if you look at official FAQ / EULA link, it doesn't tell anything where the marketplace terms are when you click "marketplace" on the FAQ
also about that paid plug-in thing, they silently added that change on EULA, there's no mention of it anywhere but in the eula changelog
Yeah thanks for the link, going through it and it's ridiculously unclear.
And it obviously contradicts to a degree what is said at https://publish.unrealengine.com/faq
Have you bought any MP plugins yourself? I haven't so I'm not sure, but from what I can see there is no option given to purchase multiple seat licenses. Not on all plugins anyway.
it's not needed
because every users would need to have own ue4 account anyway
although, you'd probably want to handle the purchase from one account
it's just that marketplaces like these like to tie up the accounts into persons
Unity does the same
and that becomes an issue when the said person doesn't work in the company anymore
although, I think unity's store allows you to buy more seats from one account
Yeah so that seems to be why this paid plugin user stuff is so convoluted - they want to allow someone/a company to buy multiple licenses which allows them to give it to current employees, rather than have the employee get their own license.
But if that isn't even exposed on the marketplace interface, there's zero chance anyone is going to do that, and I'd imagine most people just assume they can buy it once and share it with team members, like all other MP content.
and yeah, I dont see option to buy more seats either
Hi,
I need help with something and have been waiting for well over a month for a reply from the marketplace team via email.
I have a project on the marketplace called the gallery, I just launched it in 4.15 and everything is working fine, I'm not sure If I should give you the new 4.15 version or just update the description to read compatible with 4.15
anyone able to answere this?
Hey LiquidJoy, either is acceptable. If the pack is 4.15 compatible and you aren't updating anything new, you can just mark it as 4.15 compatible through your Seller Portal
thanks for that
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RmY_A08qRo upcoming marketplace pack that hopped onto my youtube suggested page.
Looks rather cool, though them beards/mustaches.. hehe
I like how the duck has a completely black texture for metallic instead of using a const of 0
lol, you bought the duck?
does he have a black texture in the metallic slot? rather than just putting a 0 constant?
lol
oh, lol
you know, I didn't even notice your comment right above the image 😉
but interesting how that's the first thing that jumps out when you see the image
@real dust What counts as PBR? I'm confused now
what if you had a procedural mask that doesnt use any textures for the metallic channel
would that not count?
Well, afaik you need to be fully PBR
So that means you need spec/gloss, metallic/rough
Or any combination of those
Because otherwise it isn't really PBR
May just be me having read stuff wrong though
pastebin.com/Z1AficKB for those who wanna read up on pbr
I thought PBR was just the way of rendering materials, a way that has at least base color, roughness and metallic. And if for instance the base color is green without a texture it would still count as pbr
@wooden falcon @plush pond yeah, I commented about the black texture a while ago in this channel. But, you don't even need to wire in const 0, it's 0 by default when you leave it unconnected
PBR is a way of rendering materials @plush pond
But the maths behind it get correct results based on the roughness/spec/gloss/met maps
So if you don't have those baked properly
There's no point in using PBR
Because you're not supplying the calculations with the data needed to actually be a proper simulation of a material
SO you end up with guesswork
Meaning you might as well use a less costly shitty non-PBR shader
😛
..which we don't have on ue4
and you can stop talking about spec/gloss on ue4 context as that doesn't apply here
we have spec on materials but it's not same thing on this context
Oh, did you make that thing?
nope, but I've read their documentation ;p
What is their reasoning by not having a proper texture for it? xD
proper texture for what?
The metallic
Yeah
You mean the other way?
Ducks materials are a sloppy job and wouldn't belong to marketplace IMO
I was referring to UE4 not using Spec/Gloss and that we don't have nonPBR shader
UE4 does use spec
..
Different
yeah, I said that it's not the same thing
[10:09 PM] 0lento: we have spec on materials but it's not same thing on this context
Who?
And that the reason for Epic's requirement for it is to make sure stuff is on-par with the engine's rendering
The duck?
Yeah
duck is cartoony model anyway
How?
So that duck really shouldn't have gotten through 😛
It bugs me out that that thing made it in
Yeah, but what does it have to do with PBR
in the nutshell, what people usually consider PBR correct is that color channel doesn't have shadows, colors have right intensity and tint for the surface they try to represent, anything else and it can be defined by artist
😄
sure some things are rough or smooth in the nature
but you can polish or make surfaces rough for any human made things
so roughness map is usually artist driven map even in PBR
Also one thing that bothers me, why isnt the duck using subsurface scattering
Could make it look less scary
Because it's relatively heavy on performance
it would require more work + it's heavier to render
And the thing's done poorly anyway
the duck is the embodyment of everything that is currently wrong with how the marketplace is working.
probably the correct answer is that they didn't have subsurface channel on stock Unity 4 shader
But at least the Unicorn seemed decent in terms of engine-prep
I'd be surprized if that's not an Unity port
Yeah
Is the duck at unity asset store?
Checking
Seems like it isn't
Or it's been hidden due to being outdated or something xD
Only thing I can find there is this
xD
huh, I was totally expecting it to be from unity, concidering the asset originally only had color and normal maps
😛

new rules
Wellp, there go my arguments
May I ask
Why the heck do they have the specular node if they don't want people using it?
All my assets use Specular
because?
Started that way when I moved to UE4 from Unity
Never changed it because I didn't see why
it adds to overall instructions
sure spec shouldn't be used in forward renderer projects right?
should be fine either way
all the spec map does it tighten or widen the spec hilight on shiney objects
in ue4
I just thought because Epic recommends you making materials for Forward Renderer to avoid specular stuff that it makes sense not to include it
then people can choose
and apparently it has no effect on metallic objects
"The Specular input should not be connected and left as its default value of 0.5 for most cases. It is value between 0 and 1 and is used to scale the current amount of specularity on non-metallic surfaces. It has no effect on metals"
hmm: "Assets must be modular in design, purpose, and function."
ok I will upload them in 1byte chunks :p
while I believe most things should be modular, that seems restrictive on creativity
a hero prop can still be modular :p you place it here, place it there, or on top of that building
so dont worry :p
If you're using the duck for your low bar, you clearly missed the obvious asset we should be measuring by
the duck (among a few things) is why the rules are now changed
(Haven't been too active in the UE4 community in the past)
to try and make sure crap like that isnt within the rules and therefore accepted
well I guess at this point its just subjective but if the rules have changed that's probably for the best
Hello,
I had this problem before with people leaving fake reviews.
@heady moth had a similar issue recently as well.
It's happened to me again.
A while ago someone has left a fake comment on this product. While I wasn't aware of it, someone else has already made a reply to it.
I think that has sold maybe 50-60 units so far but unfortunately none of the people come back to rate the product, but the person leaving a fake comment rates it 1 star, making it look bad in public eyes.
https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/grasshills-landscape
This time I'm not gonna ask the staff to remove the comment or fix the rating. I've spent time on creating that package, that comment and rating is gonna hurt my sales, but I take it.
For the sake of stopping it to continue happening to everyone else, please do something about this commenting/rating system.
that sucks
O_o wtf

no way to do that
as we dont have any info on who purchased the packs
so you have to hope they see your tweet, forum thread, etc
which barely has any influence
haha
i think that might be more effective
if you notice a gamebreaking bug in your pack, no way to tell your costumers to update
besides maybe hoping someone from the mp team wants to send an email
'-'
They should just let you send notifications or something
Nothing incredibly intrusive
But something
and putting contact links in a separate page is only going to confuse things even more
so if we re-add contacts to our page, will they remove them?
resists urge to comment about glasses
heh
I'm currently working on a skull wall material to add to one of my existing packs, but now I'm really wanting to do a duck skull wall...
not sure the duck bills would work well with tessellation though
lol
@silver moat you sure it's a fake review? maybe the customer is genuinely not satisfied on the product
I'd be really worried if marketplace staff started removing legit ratings
Did you read his comment?
It says the package contains background meshes only.
Which is a lie.
how can you tell it's his review?
I mean, it looks likely
btw, can I see as user what assets I have rated?
I know I've low starred some, but I've also had good reasons for that
I'd be really annoyed if marketplace staff just removed them because they lowered the score
"Dont buy is not landscape just background"
Sounds like "Dont buy, there's no landscape, just background meshes", which is a lie, which makes the 1 start rating not fair since it's based on a lie. But do I care. I can't stop it.
well, did you reach out for the said person?
it's possible he couldn't open the asset properly for some reason
He hasn't contacted me through any channels. First thing he has done was to ask for a refund, then leave that comment.
Btw he has asked for a refund from Epic, not me.
seems sort of like the time somebody got a refund because it was just a floating deformed plane
I dunno, to me it looks like there's been an issue with the asset or confusion about what he's buying, in latter case, he shouldn't get refund but would still be good to know what was the original issue
Gotta send actual land to customers man
my point here is that people may genuinely have bad experiences, it might not be something that you can control even
but it doesn't make the review automatically fake

Marketplace doesn't oblige angry customers to ask for help from the seller on the support thread when they have an issue with a product. They are allowed to straight up attack the product page in public, leave a negative feedback based on nothing and that negative feedback or lie or false accusation in case of @heady moth stays there just because it hasn't broken any of the forum rules.
-
Happy customers aren't obliged to give a rate. Angry ones do rate and even if you have 60 happy customers and 1 angry, that 1 start rating convinces every buyer they'll be unhappy if they buy it.
-
There's no possible way to reach the angry customer and offer help in hopes of them removing their comment and fixing their rating. Offering help to such people on the comments section only helps implying yes there is something wrong or we doubt our work.
We as sellers, are taking hit from every direction week after week, month after month, year after year. We do complain about the situation, and we do feel, "we do feel", that we don't receive the same amount of attention and compassion from Epic staff because of our complaints towards issues regarding marketplace and that only adds to the hit we take.
I for one do not care about the problems that occur for me regarding marketplace anymore. I can close my eyes on such comments and ratings, I can close my eyes on products being rejected for no valid reason, I can also close my eyes on people getting refunds because they didn't know how to use the content, because complaining about these issues which happen very often, is only making us and staff more and more divided, to a point where when talk to them on the forums, pm or email, they read but they refuse to reply to my concerns. I do not want that. I'll be quite so we can have a more peaceful relationship.
I'm sorry for the rant, well, not quite a rant. Call it words from the heart. It's not only me and these aren't my words. We're quite a bunch of sellers sharing the exact same thoughts and emotions. To all of us honestly it seems like we're the last ones Epic would want to care about in every single aspect, and it's sad, but it's going. And I hope it's gonna be fine. I hope you understand that comment on my product isn't really all the reason for me being here writing this.
I hope things get better and we (Sellers, Customers and Epic Staff) live happily ever after.
and just to fine point:
Harassment and/or abusive language will not be tolerated.
All Forum Rules must be followed.
Any official communication with UE Marketplace must be through official Epic Games channels.
Sellers must maintain a high level of professionalism and be courteous, approachable, responsive, and respectful toward others.
Providing information about content through forums, comments, or other Epic channels is considered official representation and must be accurate and maintained as part of seller’s support for their product.```
At this point I would hope Epic wants to make Discord (this place) AN OFFICIAL PLACE cause right now, this is NOT OFFICIAL. As per the terms they just laid out
@silver moat You've got a ton of stuff on the MP... and... your ratings are good. If I was going to purchase your product I would look at all your stuff and come to the conclusion that the dude was an idtiot. Trust the consumers a little more..... The dude who left that review sounds like a dork.
@cinder sable to be fair, whilst I think that there are a lot of savvy consumers, there are also a lot who are never even aware that you have more than a single product until you drop it in a conversation (based on numerous times that customers of mine were not aware I had more than the Survival Game Template) so there are definitely some customers who don't investigate the seller at all. That said... I haven't read all the stuff above so apologies if this is off the mark :p
Nah, you are on the mark... point is valid.
Even still... He has a -6 on his review (I just did a minus myself!), so I would dismiss it....and... look at other reviews below his. Not sure how Epic can deal with this.
Yeah. -6 on a comment should raise some flags to other users lol
hopefully......
@ebon leaf @cinder sable I appreciate your support, but that's not my concern really.
Last time this happened to me Adam got it sorted out (thanks to him), but it happened again. And will happen again. I'm "not" upset about the fact that right now that false 1 star rating is keeping a lot of people to just skip clicking on the product and see it's pictures, description and user comments. I can afford to lose that package and it won't cripple me or make any changes in my life. It's the constant repeat of these many issues. It's the loop that's been going on for a very long time that gets us to write something here.
@silver moat As I said, haven't read the stuff above 😛 woke up about half hour ago and haven't even had breakfast or coffee yet 😛 But you know where I stand on all this stuff, which it to say I agree with your concerns. Was just responding to the comment by @cinder sable because I had something to include with it haha
Yeah that's cool.
I just sit behind my PC and think how many years would it take to create a website where comments need manual approval, or to have a website where the seller can engage their customer base independently, send updates and such. Or even simpler, to add another rule stating customers are obliged to contact the seller and ask for help regarding their issue before they leave negative feedback in public to destroy someone's reputation. There are many simple, easy steps that can be taken, which collectively create a very peaceful and healthy environment for us all but something somewhere has slowed down the gears too much.
Anyway, need some rest. Have a great night.
I dunno, I still feel pretty strongly against all kinds of censorship. If anything, I'd wish people would try to solve what's the customers issue even if it feels like someone is trolling
I don't think that attitude will help to prevent these cases in the future either, if you just say people like these are fake or liers (you don't say that to your customers btw, hint), it will not get anything resolved
Also, while people put unfair ratings occasionally, many 5 star ratings are given for completely wrong reasons too (which is why I don't even believe on the whole rating system on whole)
but you don't go removing those "false" 5 star ratings if someone requests that either
also, making reviewing harder is guaranteed way to make it 10x worse
people will not rate if it's not easy
which actually is whole thing what is wrong on current community pick voting system
that just means, results are even more biased
on one way or another
so what I'm trying to say here, instead of accusing people who have issues with the assets, try to solve what is the real issue :p
