Maybe you accidentally hit F to focus on a very far away object?
lol no i tried focusing on everything
and i tried playing, my player doesnt spawn either

position looks ok on things in the outliner though?
Since all your stuff is still there, it definitely sounds like a setting was bumped somewhere or something like that.
But the fact your player doesn't spawn when playing is odd.
i think its something to do with persistent levels
cuz i turned that on accidentally yesterday and its been causing problems
Just to check this is what I wrote in the credits is this alright?
Audio Files obtained by these Assets
- Footsteps Sounds with Blueprint Setup -by- Bartosz Kamol Kaminski
- Horror Engine -by- Bartosz tansuergene
cause the only assets I used when making the game was just some audio files from these 2 assets
sometimes all you need is a little perspective
๐
@sonic echo Yep, if those are all the third party or premade assets you used, then you're good.
Good, and was also had time to port the game to Android Phones (under 100mb), so basically the android version has been put up for the Tiny Award... though the Android version, the portals image behaves much different, might need to look into whats doing that, or maybe its not an issue cause that issue isn't in the Window's version which is the main game
@gleaming lagoon I've had 2 editor crashes since 4.25 that made my editor look like that. Do you playerstart and directional lighting billboards only face upwards? I solved it by deleted my binaries and config folders in my project. then when you launch it the editor will prompt you to rebuild modules (say yes). then it was back to normal, but I had to redo my config files
Woo! Just reduced the tree pack from 1.2 GB to 93 MB. ๐
is it a pack if it only has 1 tree?
I didn't remove any trees.
how did that happen? @civic dock
you nuke the textures?
I reduced all the textures from 4-8K to 1K and removed the high-poly trees (I only need the low poly ones).
@civic dock you could have just reduced the texture resolution for your textures in the engine?
I wanted to reduce the size of the assets in my project, too.
Like this?
Ohh in your project file
To save disk space?
When you change the compression it effects everything except project disk space.
Yes, and frankly I didn't want to commit the huge files to my repo.
Ah gotcha
Yeah, I wanted small all around, not just in the packaged game.
Thanks for sharing that tip, though! Another method I know of to do the same thing is changing the LOD bias.
For example, changing the LOD bias of those 8K textures from 0 to 3 set their effective resolution to 1K.
I completely restarted my game and I am almost finished.
I had a bit of a scare this morning when I first ran my game standalone and a bunch of stuff was busted
fixed now though ๐
@civic dock Yeah. ๐ I think I kind of forgot about that haha.
I just learned about it this weekend! ๐
at 165 mb, do I try and shrink? 125 w/o prereqs ๐ค
Hahah, probably not worth it unless you really want to go for the Tiny Award.
I will now also be in the tiny awards category now
I do have some easy wins like replacing the sky texture but yeah that last few mb would be painful
I'm down under 400 lol
I can probably get rid of another 100 but tiny isnt even a possibility for me this time lol
How much can you shave off by disabling plugins?
I should have built in 4.22. For some reason it packages smaller
@polar orbit sorry for the late response, i just migrated my whole game to another project and it seems to be working for now, if i run into the problem again i'll do that. Thanks man
np good luck
350MB ๐ค what shall we throw away next
After yet another crash of Unreal 4.25.1, I have just decided to stop struggling and fall out of this Jam. I was working to finish my game tonight and to get it uploaded, but I am done struggling. Good luck to everyone.
@elfin musk rough stuff, how close are you to finishing? Might feel good to get it finished later even if it's not in the jam timeframe, to feel like you got something done out of it all ๐
I finally got it down to 103 MB.... I'll try again next time lol
@elfin musk, maybe you can supply us with your crash stack and someone could help man
Just to recheck, I submitted my game for the Tiny Award, because while the PC version of my game is a little over 100mb, the Android version of the game is under 100mb, think that is alright?
that's.... a really good question
@tranquil matrix want to ask I submitted my game for the Tiny Award, because while the PC version of my game is a little over 100mb, the Android version of the game is under 100mb, is that alright?
Anybody know why GRASS would show up in editor, in "build game" editor, but not in Final Build?
To make sure, the 100mb limit needs to be with an unzipped game?
remember to use spell check for any text you put in a game, attention to details help
seeing lots of changing from winter to spring games. cool concept.
Guys, i forgot to add one more place i used from beforecreated assets
i forgot that i rigged the cahracters on mixamo
any way i can change in submission details ?
@glass fossil thankyouuuuuu i saw it
for Windows compile
I should put my blacklist txt in the Windows folder or WindowsNoEditor folder?
@hardy rune It usually needs to be in Win32 or Win64 folders depending on what you're building, you might need to create these yourself
You can check the log or the package (with unrealpak) to see if it was picked up
8 hours to go, still haven't finished ๐ฉ
that's a whole work day!
make sure to test packaging and maybe even submission sooner rather than later though
@hardy rune It usually needs to be in Win32 or Win64 folders depending on what you're building, you might need to create these yourself
@zenith gust Thanks man! The folder names aren't in any docs, so I just created a Windows name folder and was surprised when I took a look at the log and it wasn't calling the blacklist
Yeah it's pretty badly documented ๐
After this jam is over I'll try to write something about it
I've told myself that I'd write up stuff about it several times but never followed through, be better than me and people will be very happy ๐
Things that make you shite yourself
what website do you guys use for royaltyfree sounds?
I never could find any good ones for free. ๐
They have given some good stuff away on the monthly marketplace giveaway, but not much in sounds. Music yeah. Sounds no
is there any reason.... transition from a widget doesnt WORK..?
it works in editor mode
doesnt work in build mode
i am so confused....
Did u add them to your maps list in List of maps to package?
That is where I always screw up
... i have never had to do that before
is this new to 4.25?
i just saw that option
so silly....
If you click package only maps it has always been that way
i never did, maybe somebody else in the proejct did
coolio, that was the fix
you are my hero/heroin?
:0 ๐
now my menu is complete! โค๏ธ
tbh i usually add controls to my menus even in jams, this time i didnt even bother lol
yeah
we are doing a VO tutorial level
hope they go to the tutorial or they will be lost
๐
like for real
even with pretty signs telling them where to go
Does anyone have an answer on if its alright to put your game up for Tiny Award, because the Android version of your game is under 100mb, while the PC versions are over 100mb
if your going with android version as the version then id imagine so
but not 100% sure ngl
Yeah it would have to be judged on the android version then I imagine, and that's what you should submit
Mmm... maybe, the PC version is the main file and is the one I mostly want to be Judge for Army of One
just wish I can get a solid answer from one of the people that is running this Jam
lol
124mb, I'm satisfied with that haha
I could revisit all the assets but I'm not in the mood and haven't even finished the game
Falcon NW tweeted out a picture of the other side panel, I think this is one of the prettiest designs so far
Me Like and me want
just hope that I submitted my game correctly for the GameJam and such
It is definitely crawling on itch
oof @tulip viper you're hitting all the packaging bugs
๐ค just making sure I'm thorough here
@tulip viper if my experience from Anomaly says anything, no one is going to pay attention to the tutorial anyways lol
just ask @vernal stratus how it was watching streamers fail to pick up the primary mechanic item in the tutorial
If I am correct you don't have to list things that were included with starter project
yeah but the list is so short I might as well be thorough ๐คฃ
also isn't using the checkardboard texture not allowed in game
you're thinking of WorldDefault?GridMaterial
oh
checkerboard is literally a checkerboard
oof ponkkis, that puts the burden on them to figure out what was marketplace assets and what wasn't
at the very least something like "All models - Marketplace" would be helpful for the judges
that's all anyone can hope for ๐
this is all I put on my submission, cause the only asset I used was the audio files that I extracted from these assets
can anyone recommend a good way to record my game on my android device?
@polar orbit Simulate touch with mouse click and just record from launcher?
if you need gestures, I dunno
thanks but it's actually an Augmented reality game
https://adventuresinqa.com/2015/02/04/android-screen-recording-using-adb/ would this work for you?
You can do custom events to clean that up
Which you have and nice comment sections
I'll prototype in BP like that and then move over to C++
Okay submitting an update. I added only the most basic sound effects and music.
aint got no time for that lol
Most of the entries usually appear within the last hour or so
Wife says there's six hours left, plenty of time to make a new entry with the kids.
I learned a LOT of stuff this time. Advanced GUI things, and using a gamepad to navigate menu's. Some animation stuff, which I NEVER felt comfortable with until now.
the last hours
you shouldn't touch any code anymore, because you will break it and go insane trying to fix it
but you still do it anyway
Lmao
horde mode? yeah that sounds big ๐
Not to much new learned with the Jam itself i guess (other than much more reasonable scope/time management has improved), but I learned that using the 'horror' tag leads quite alot of exposure when uploading to itch.io lol
What do your analytics look like?
I think mine are around 250 views : 50 downloads
Should put in a yeti and add the horror tag ๐ค
oh boi
i think im nearing 100 downloads, and ive had like 6 lets plays or walkthroughs on youtube haha
there are other people besides we jammers who actually touch our games?
541 views lmao no way
much be as it went in the horror catagory
seems to be a big thing on itch
yeah horror games have typically been at the top of popular in several jams, I never realized it was because people were hunting them down via the tag ๐
yeah, looks like they go through most recent as well, must be an indie horror binge lol
Tbh, I would have thought given how many are out there, most horror games would get lost, but it seems like they all still get decent exposure
which is always good
what a long journey haha, finally submitted ๐
woah nice
that looks really good
aye it was, done that in about 3 days, about 2 hours of those were spent panicking over the theme haha
@mental walrus I read it too fast, didn't saw Pines at first glance ๐
im probably gonna sit down some point tommorow and play through some of the other submissions, should be fun @glass fossil
yo, we should play some multiplayer games if anybody was sane enough to do one
aye, always interesting, as youll get a mix of metaphorical takes and literal takes on it
I have had like 14 views and 0 downloads ๐ป
@rugged plaza ill give it a shot ๐
It's a story game. I'm not yet a veteran of gamedev
me neither, im still a student in it haha
I been learning as a hobby for about a year and a half. It is fun
honestly, recently doing some more gamejams, when they arent stressful, are really good practice, and ive found a good way to chat with other participants devs, learning new stuff ๐
I am trying my best to finish in time.
I have to finish the main menu and that is it
I learn my best during jams. It would probably help if ai didnt get sidetracked and spend hours messing with one thing and constantly playing with what I have done at any particular moment ๐
@static trellis keep focused and im sure youll be fine ๐ ๐
It feels like an actual accomplishment when you submit. Even if you win nothing you still win
What category are you guys in?
now time to make the cutscene
Solo
then your first jam already went better than my first, i had a large team and we got nothing handed in @static trellis lol
@glass fossil oh thank you
i think people will like the entry, assuming they stay long enough to play it
๐
guess we will know soon enough
@rugged plaza indeed, hitting the deadline is whats its generally about
I didnt make the 100Mb by about 200% haha
Wow
My game is about 100 MB
Mine is about 300 I think.
still wondering if it alright that I submitted my game to Army Of One when its only the android build of my game is less then 100mb and I view the PC version as the definitive version
87, after deleting some stuff, before it was like 130
98 models, and 665mb ๐
i got mine down to 220 mb
@sonic echo im sure its fine
I sucked last time more than the first time but I was working 70 hours weeks then
i wonder how you even managed to make a game with that amount of work
They didnt say 100MB on any one platform
They just said 100MB which means any platform under 100
wow, i just looked at the main game browser page....mine isnt too far down, that tag must be sacred lmao
guess so, man just have butterflys in my stomach
@bleak cairn barely. I made a lunar Lander knock off with a cat landing in a litter box. I had cat poopie but I took it out afraid someone would be upset
whens the result stream again?
Month I think
man that Mega Jam was a mess with me, jumping teams and projects, glad this time I was able to create a game and even completed a day before the jam ends
May be longer this time because corona and rioting
man the time till they judge which game is the winner will be grooling
@sonic echo i "finished" also one day earlier but today i looked for some bugs and i found tons of them. Okay not tons but like 4 including the main menu button not working
honestly, i reckon its always gonna be close with results
@bleak cairn I dove off the deep end this jam and implemented gamepad navigation. Isn't as hard as I though but I still made some mistakes I had to fix. Reuploaded 4 times before submitting
it's a good skill to learn
@bleak cairn luckily I didn't seen to much bugs in mine, only issue is the game is very simple including the puzzles. the theme fit for a puzzle, but not much of a puzzle creator
but hot damn do I hate implementing gamepad navigation
Widget switches are FN amazing BTW
i hat gamepad navigation aswell. I only implement it when i have really toooo much time
Decided to create a better cover for project. It was really fun modelling father just to get him in image ๐
wait guys we can record sounds from youtube and use them right
like owl noises and stuff
@glass fossil yep ๐ with hard tweaking, substance after that - really don't like fuse texture quality
Only if you own the youtube video yourself
@gleaming lagoon could be a copyright issue probably
yeah for base for sure, it rocks
@crude ether the thumbnail looks much better than your previous one...
Thank you!
Lovely, finished my game. Now time to package it
*praying for no packaging errors*
Welp... I failed this jam. OTL
is there any chance they'd extend the submissions just a little bit?
my internet is so bad, i won't be able to upload the game in time...
what should be average build time?
depends on platform and game
Stick it on your cell phone or a lap top and head to McDonalds parking lot haha
They seriously have amazing wifi
project files are 1.21 GB, platform is windows
I hope I'll make it in time
year ago my build failed just before the deadline
@still osprey always build during.
@still osprey if it your first build I don't think it's gonna be bigger than 30-60min depending on specs of your PC
I build about every 4 hours just to make sure lol
Omg, I am actually proud of what I did
Only takes like 2 minutes
my rebuild is taking about 10 minutes to complete
Rip package errors killin posibilities
Rebuilding def takes longer
Hey I got one download lol
Think, this game is disqualified
what... what is this O_o
So I really can't go for the tiny category? This is frustrating ๐
they probably just post it every jam since 2017 hoping that nobody will notice
or trying to get easy exposure
@fiery stone looks under 100 to me
@fiery stone have you tried porting the game to android game, my games android build is under 100mb
Okay time to start making the game.
https://media.tenor.com/images/44819cab5c551c9f9a9344226a63c405/tenor.gif
No touch controls, so not that helpful really :p
you could add in simple touch controls
@cedar spindle I'm with ya! 4 hrs is plenty!
Sure.
I see you play jams on ultra nightmare difficulty? ๐
Hopefully I can make the last 30 hours of work worth it haha
Yeah I once submitted with 13 seconds left
I don't recommend my scheduling
lol
lucky
I havent planned my work too so I don't even have main menu and now I am finishing last level + adding sounds
so we all here to wither and cry ๐ฆ
I am so happy, my Packaging is going well for now
I am so proud. This is the first jam that I am in. No matter if I win or not, I am proud of what I did.
Rivet seems like a top contender for solo dev game.
Packaging done! ๐
How does my 5 material game have thousands of shaders and how do I prevent the engine from compiling so much stuff the game doesn't actually need?
is it appeared on game build?
or just when you opened project?
it is normal that unreal takes 1000-2000 shaders on actual game packaging
When I'm building the game and once when I had to reload the project. It's a pixel game and the only shader I use is the DefaultSpriteShader
try excluding the editor content while packaging
https://docs.unrealengine.com/en-US/Engine/Performance/ReducingPackageSize/index.html
Section excluding editor content
How to reduce the size of your packaged game.
Thank you @bleak cairn . I couldn't find an answer when doing a web search, so I really appreciate the link.
ofcourse UE crashes over 9000 times today....
and when packaging don't forget to disable the steam vr plugin wich comes enabled by default because its anoying when your headset starts every time when you open up a game :)
and i allmost made something ๐
Google Drive is a free way to keep your files backed up and easy to reach from any phone, tablet, or computer. Start with 15GB of Google storage โ free.
Now submitting my game
how is it called
where do i add the names and emails of my team? on the itch.io page? or put it as file into the zip?
I have to wait for my gameplay to load on youtube
Crap, my level got corrupted, shit
Any ideas?
Had to take a 6 hour old backup for it to work, but lost tons of work
Update on what?
I'm still trying to complete my final level, couldn't recover my 2nd one, so had to have it with like 3-4 hours less work ๐ญ
yeah that sucks
i know the feeling
during megajam we had a game breaking bug 1hr prior
we could never fix it in time ๐ฆ
4 min after we fixed it, but was too late
I am submitting in a sec.
Solo Dev here, so especially stressful when these things happen. Still haven't done my gameplay trailer
I was stressed this morning when I completely restarted.
3 hours left, lemme just do the most difficult puzzle level in my game ๐
I've changed the settings to exclude editor content and it's still processing thousands of shaders. ๐ I think I'm done. Game isn't even playable anyway. It's only my compulsive need to turn something in that makes me want to try.
Alright, 2 hour game done, time to submit
@glass fossil try to reduce features until it works. Rather put something with little features in than no game at all....
@carmine kindle didn't you win once with a game done in 1 day?
Nah
lol
I made a game in a day before for a jam, but I didn't win with that one
my entire game is difficult ๐
worst part that i bring to the team, 0 understanding of game mechanics
๐
but i sure can art though ๐
@bleak cairn No features, just a character falling sideways through the void of space.
And apparently walking. I guess I could get rid of the walking animation.
Ermm.. so I submited my game.. and then when I try to download it, it gives me that. Any reasons?
0 errors.
Like it happens on itch.io
Do I need to zip my file or something?
Check your AV isn't quarantining it, had that issue a few times.
I got no warnings..
And where do I check my AV
I submitted my game but now it takes sooooooo much time to upload my zip file
Ye.
My connection is bad this week
Waiting is sooooo annoying
So how long does it usually take to build and package a game?
for android uploads to itchio, do i only need the armv7.apk and armv7.bat?
My game is a bit over 1GB. Can I upload multiple .zips or do I have to try to reduce the filesize even further
You can use butler https://itch.io/docs/butler/
There's also another thing that is just a GUI for butler. https://blendogames.itch.io/blendo-itch-uploader
thanks
That's time enough to add one more particle effect
I added sounds
But really I need to rewatch a bunch of training on colliders
Video now with sounds - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jejQB1d0qHE
Look at that number, entries 160 ๐ Decent!
just added HORDE mode, so fun to kill them snow gobos
๐ time for a few last sfx
How did you pack all that audio into 3 seconds?
that's called compression beb
Look at that number, entries 160 ๐ Decent!
@tepid flower I suppose that total count would be around 200 ๐
well it would be interesting to see final number ๐
finished my game! super happy with it. https://mahalis.itch.io/blossom
and also super happy to finally be done, this has been a ton of work
okay done with this, man that was a lot of work. good luck to everyone.
can't wait to play all your crazy shit tomorrow
and/or watch shadowriver suffer through it all
Iยดm not playing everything but I saw a lot of interesting games I might try.
We haven't uploaded yet (just about to) but we made a survival walking town game
that's great, very mortal engine
yeah finally put my old prototype of replicating movement across navmeshes to use!
popped out one final gameplay trailer now that I have actual ski meshes and somewhat balanced audio lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnvFzpar0Yw

Hi, After Package Project my foliage paint missing texture and used grid texture instead Did anybody know how to fix this?
oh noes, I forgot we have to record gameplay before deadline ๐ฎ
guess I won't add feature x ๐ฆ
200 entry mark
@hollow silo I had this issue, go to your packaging settings and select the Full Rebuild checkbox
seems to have fixed it completely for me, haven't had a build with missing foliage textures since
Thank You!
Final build, just in time, didn't get to implement all mechanics though :/
Another thing I still have no Idea how to record gameplay Nvidia Shadow doesn't work
I use Windows game bar thingy
Well, I'm out. 37 minutes until the jam closes and I've got so much more to make. Fell way behind unfortunately.
๐ฆ
I want to finish the game outside the jam, though. Really really want to realize this idea.
I'll share a quick video tonight of walking around in the snow. I'm really happy with the snow material and the sound I've got in so far.
guys
i'm uploading the game now to my account, after that it will appear to be available for submission?
I'm also unfortunately not going to make it I don't think. It was a really cool idea. I'll (maybe) finish it this week and post it? Otherwise screenshots or something at some point.
@hollow silo is Shadow the Geforce Experience overlay thing? that worked for me, even for a VR game
Murder myster set in one of the character's memories.
@dawn lily After you upload your game, fill out the submission form. The game will be available there to select.
I forgot to check the file size before uploading, it's uploading but the zip is 1.01 gb... will it work?
@civic dock, if i want to reupload, do it automatically reflect in my submission or do i need to perform another submission process?
why do we have to have footage.....
annoying ๐
could have used that time to do other things
whew
finished the submission
Our existential horror 3D platformer submissionf or the Unreal Spring Jam 2020. Created in 5 days.
@dawn lily I think they only judge the last build uploaded before the deadline.
@proper charm that looks fun! I love grappling hooks in games
happy to hear that :D you can play here https://itch.io/jam/2020-unreal-spring-jam/rate/667527
I donโt see a download link on that page, is it not up yet?
investigating
๐ค
..apparently one of ours is uploading a minor fix right now
I swear Imma beat his ass if the submission fails due to thiss
do i upload the exe to itch? i cant seem to upload the whole thing
zip it first
jeez, 12 mins left
if its too big (> 1 GB) you need to use the butler tool
@rigid fog it needs to be published i believe
Oh god no, I got that bug again where after effects won't render my video :/
@glad wing downloadable again
packed the project, turned out to be 1.3 GB :(
ah gotta love those bugs that appear after you have submitted xD
@ancient delta, sorry man :/
I was also not able to make the deadline....however it was my first experience of Unreal outside of making a ball roll. So I'm pretty proud of what I've learned.
@dark timber as much as that sucks to hear, the experience is gonna bring you a lot. I think most people here have experienced something like that
@proper charm I get stuck on this one:
What do I do? Cant render video and have to put a link on submission
like I grapple up to it and then run into it and fall again
You'd think after several years of jams I'd get better at planning so I actually finish. ๐
am I being foolish or is that a bug
๐
@glad wing try letting go of the grapple before you reach the target point
you gotta use the velocity
Prob have to restart computer to get my video rendered :/
https://rh2.itch.io/thaw yaaaa
Phew, 1 min before. Gotta replace my vimeo video though when I restart computer
๐ ๐
oh well, I forgot where obs saved my gameplay trailer, couldn't make it in time :/
Ooh, my gameplay video is rendering, yeeey
really i saw, in the last 5 minutes more then 20 games were submitted
Barley made it
second last to submit .. ๐
no way to submit now?
Nope!
seem like my Submission didn't go into the Jam section I upload like 30 mins ago
And I told myself I would just stay until like 01 am, here I am at 05 am nosleep and work starting in like 3 hours :/
Screw it, going to take the halfday of and sleep-in, I've deserved it ๐
we made it with only few seconds to spare ๐
happy jamming everyone
wondering why my entry isn't on the submissions page :\
damn ๐ glad to hear it archmage
๐ฅณ
you guys dont know the streas when i fixing stuff in lesy m,p,emt
ROFLsauce. I shouldn't have gone to bed last night
๐ฅณ
ninjin.. did you submit?
Otsukare everyone
@gaunt copper , what's your channel?
@solid abyss yes sir! โค๏ธ
๐
Shadowriver streams live on Twitch! Check out their videos, sign up to chat, and join their community.
Pfiou I hit the upload project button at the end so I needed to Redo all the form, 1min in time! I started alone 2days ago so no sound and minor graphical bug but i'm proud of it, not a covid friendly game tho (only local coop) https://youtu.be/PbcxjHDH0Bk https://sutivu.itch.io/buried
I just upload my file but the drive not accept I can't submit my project
I just realized I haven't done a full playthrough of my game yet, and never tested my final level...
can any mod message me we are based out of florida and had issues uploading @tall isle @random parcel @summer urchin
lol used houdini engine, so the build is trash
apparently need to disable the plugin before packaging
good to know
I made an multiplayer game and never tested more than one player (me), hoping that this not bug too much haha
Is it fine if the video is over 60sec? or do I need to trim it?
๐ฆ
can't we get just extra 30 mins ?
butler was uploading the build and disconnecting alot
sucks to be living in africa ๐ฆ
Sadly, that's what the whole point of a deadline is
I would be sad had I missed it, but I also made sure to give myself a little bit of time to submit
Ooh, hey @gaunt copper I remember you playing my black & White detective game last/or before that jam ๐
can we re upload the video . my video is missing the audio. just realised it.. did at the last minute
yes krish
Good luck everyone!
^^
@sharp terrace I think you can edit your submission with link, vimeo you can switch game and keep link though
Haha like allways
Solo dev this time though, had 4 artists last times ๐
Honestly didn't know game jams were this stressful
Well gj everyone, time to get some sleepy sleep
I wish I had more time but meh, 48h is enough
I need help, I upload my submission through "https://itch.io/jam/2020-unreal-spring-jam" before a deadline But it doesn't submit to Unreal Spring Jam for some reason can I still do anything about this?? (My sub https://please-mercy.itch.io/wild-fox-and-snowwhite)
I uploaded my file in 9:20 but it could not upload
thank you... but if i change anything in the submission feed post deadline... will the game be disqualified... just to know.. this is my first game jam
I forgot to disclose some third party assets that I used, is there a way to edit the description now?
Btwe you can edit submission forms in submission page
like the 3rd party assets etc
oh yea this is our entry
If my video is 1:50 should I trim it down to 60sec or will I be fine?
thanks, I edited my description
wow, I am actually hallucinating from sleep deprivation right now
that was a fun jam
no more horror games for a while, had to skip working on the scary parts during the night ๐ฆ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQoMbrTcR5Q&feature=youtu.be
Built a spooky game for the UE4 Spring Jam 2020.
Play here: https://bioxide.itch.io/linger
oh wait, I could still upload a gameplay trailer ๐ค
her behavior is randomized and she just happen to pop next to me, it scared the crap out of me lol
Congrats to everyone who successfully completed and submitted a game! ๐ฅณ
alright, it's not a big deal i guess
i've learned alot, my first game to be released
i'll work on it a bit more in the coming days, polish it and update it
and that's about it sadly
Congrats on finishing your first game. ๐
thank you
btw
butler is useless
the only build that i could upload, it was via the website directly
butler backstabbed me ๐ฆ
Yeah I tried to use butler and it immediately threw a null reference exception - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLHL75H_VEM
Just Bret Hart doing some code review.
anyone still up to play some vIdEo GaMeZ?
my case was that it was pretending to upload
1% to 4% then back to 1%
with lots of errors
@civic dock so for people with errors, are we screwed?
You mean errors uploading a build with butler?
We had issues from the storms in Florida.
I'm not sure. I think you'll have to ask Victor tomorrow.
ok, thank you^^
That's a bummer, though. This is why it's usually best to leave plenty of time on the last day for building and submitting. It takes time and you never know what comes up.
I had issues too, my last upload stopped half way through. Luckily I already had a fairly stable build up.
When do the results come out? In a week?
Looking forward to seeing the mash up video
I wish that rules about branding would be highlighted on jams page also, not being hidden in docs linked, ugh. I used megascans logo...
that's surprising, I'd imagine most people would work up until the last minute.
@civic dock this map is 2000x2000, 5 distinct regions and all
you can't simply leave some time for upload xP
if there is still a chance for those who had butler errors, please ping me out "Tomorrow"
it's 5:40AM I haven't slept now in 36 hours or smth
I haven't slept 46 hours, who more? ๐
yโall must be young, I havenโt been able to do that since I was like 22
I'm actually 26
recently diagnosed with Mania
this is the second project I complete in a very very very long time
well to be more precise Mixed Mania
this game i made, is a proof to myself that I can get things done now, and a proof of how competent my therapist is
when I update the game with some credits scene, i'll be sure to include her ๐
without her i wouldn't even be here
@hoary trout , good job man, wishing you success moving forward ๐
any playthrough streams active now/planned?
I think shadow tomorrow
which means, he will go sleep soon, then wake up, then stream
yes i be streaming when i wak up and prepare some stuff
270 is fine number thank got not 450 or else i would not survive that again probably
you need some sleep buddy
17sec before deadline dude
woah
you have no idea how much i screamed
that's some insane clutch upload
I set the stupid butler to upload 18 mins before deadline, and went on working on stuff to update later on
come back deadline has passed, butler was fooling around, and i'm here smiling like an idiot
I've realized I need to figure out how to make cut scenes bc they a lot to a game it seems.
yeee nice oyu got entry Victor
This is what I get for not going all ham this time.
i hope oyu gonna watch my stream... you know i got rateing system now right? xd
I slept too much, and worked too much
You can thank unreal
Most of that 100MB is just music/sound FX
i made a 2000x2000 map (maybe more)
5 different packs of low poly stuff from Synty
Music, vocalization, lots of animations
and its 250mb
i'm sorry, i'm not judging or anything
i'm just seriously curious about optimizing 1bit graphics
Nice, grats. Sadly, I didn't do some of the sound FX and any of the music, everything else was done by me.
Not sure how much those soundFX/Music could have been more optimized though.
Regardless, I learned a lot (first time ever doing pixel art seriously). I forgot how both crappy and cool Paper2D was
never touched Paper2D
I still prefer Godot to anything when it comes to 2D
so wait
how are they expecting 100mb games ? O_O
I didn't finish my game, but here's a little tease of what I made.
Thanks. ๐
There will definitely be some jump scares, but they'll be rare. It's going to be a slow, psychological kind of horror.
Definitely going to finish it.
Hello folks, here is my entry!

Managed to hit all three modifiers, using several pre-made assets ๐
Had lots of fun in this jam. Hope you guys enjoy: https://youtu.be/4x6Vr9vYKiI

Aim made this game for the 2020 Unreal Spring Game Jam.
The goal is to collect eggs to advance to the next map. The main gameplay is sledding.
did all of our team members have to submit the game?
lmao
i thought only one of us did now my name doesn't show up on the submitted list ๐
nice wind sound effect haha
First jam Iโve ever completed... theme was tricky and honestly I had no ideas for it
Annoying that I do now that itโs over :p
Theme was a tricky one!
I try to start streaming around 5-7PM CET, maybe even later
@prime turret you have to ask your uploader to assign you guys admin status and then check "list as contributor"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdxYZfaT-40
I had so much fun on this project. Hope everyone else did too
I guess there is no way to change the zip name after the fact? Kinda forgot the team name :(
you can change the display name of the zip file on itch but i dont think it would update the zip files name
maybe that would be enough
It doesn't update it, and I feel that change alone would make it more harmful than helpful.
unlucky i guess
@fiery stone , i guess if you wrote it in the description at least, that's good, apart from the actual filename i mean
Yeh. I was solo so coming up with the team name was kind of a last minute thing :'D
what's your game?
nice 8bit sounds dude xD
:p thanks
Hey I publish the project but could not sumbit the jam drive can't support make a error for upload file but then I publish our project but not in submit list
I really enjoyed this jam! As always, I learnt a lot and had fun along the way. This time I made the game and everything in it, from the animations to the music, all by my self in the 5 days, which posed a new challenge, since I've never composed music before!
If you would like to check my game out, here's the link: https://cp-dimensions.itch.io/rivet
Download for free: https://cp-dimensions.itch.io/rivet
This game and everything in it, from the animations to the music, was made by one person in 5 days for the 2020 Unreal Spring Jam.
Game Description:
Explore an atmospheric, snowy world as Rivet, a cute steampunk robot, a...
@gaunt copper I'll be watching!
Is there any support contact for jam purposes? or where should write if I have a quite a big problem?
I wrote private message to @tranquil matrix on discord, but he's not responding, guess he's quite busy with playing all the games
eeech, I just tried the version i uploaded on dropbox
it has some game breaking bugs as well ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
well, i'll update sometime tomorrow
and add a proper trailer and other stuff etc...
Great. I forgot to put my team name in zip file name
Yeah we were supposed to
eh, doesn't matter to me i guess
i passed the deadline anyway
an "open world" immersive "stealth" game
the map is quite large and rich
but the build i sent is broken early build
as well as the build i uploaded to dropbox
but you can get a sweet taste of the game,
Need some pics and video
I know I know
here is an early image of the map
if I remember correctly, the map is 2000x2000
it's a very large game, i was hoping for a complete immersive experience
but 5 days isn't enough
this is my first game, i've learned alot and i'm thankful for this jam to happen
I've been doing gamedev as a hobby for about 1 and 1/2 years. I always learn the best stuff during jams.
This jam I learned to make gamepad navigable menu's and finally understand animation blueprints
i've been "hobbying" around in and out for many years
nothing serious, never could finish a project, let alone a game
this is my first released game ๐
This is my 4th whole demo lol
I did a kids math challenge infinite runner, a SHMUP, a lunar lander knockoff and now a sidescroller/shmup mashup ๐ป
oh, now I get it, you can still upload gameplay footage, but it's not displayed on your submission preview... yikes ๐ฌ
anyone here with video editing experience?
I'm want to know the keyword for a specific editing technique
a character walking and the view in front of him changes
I actually use these names when I program camera stuff
that's interesting thank you
but what i am looking for is more specific
say there is a camera behind my character
who is walking in the snow
then the environment changes into spring while he is still walking, the it changes to summer etc..
Like a timelapse?
humm you could say so
i've seen this thing in trailers before but i can't remember what they are
Continuity is the only word that comes to mind
Continuity editing is where one long shot serves to show a linear flow of time or space
oh i remember
there are videos of those holding girlfriend hand
and while she walks the places changes seamlessly
That is continuity
Continuity editing is the process, in film and video creation, of combining more-or-less related shots, or different components cut from a single shot, into a sequence to direct the viewer's attention to a pre-existing consistency of story across both time and physical locatio...
It doesnt have to be both. It can be both
Nice ummm hand ๐
yeah i removed the thumbnail just in case
Lmao
Anyone taken a look and spotted anything super cool in the submissions yet?
my submission is super cool ๐
I promise, it's really good, i'll keep working on it polish it within this week and release a perfect final build
What's it called then?
for now it's a good experience, to add weight to my words, i'm working on an awesome trailer
Heaven's Ire: https://safad.itch.io/heavens-ire
there are no screenshots, nor video at the moment, I know its a gamble to download 250mb game, but i recommend you do ๐
Is it supposed to be all black with just the health bar there?
black ?, i don't get you
This is all I see when I start the game
So I realized I had some bugs in my game, does the submitted games get downloaded automatically to epic games or can I try to fix it? Or does that disqualify my entry? Or will they just play the V1 and I can have a V1.1 on my itch.io? Don't want to ruin the submission/rules
oh
you downloaded the version from itch
no the actual build is on the dropbox link
So I realized I had some bugs in my game, does the submitted games get downloaded automatically to epic games or can I try to fix it? Or does that disqualify my entry? Or will they just play the V1 and I can have a V1.1 on my itch.io? Don't want to ruin the submission/rules
@turbid timber I think you can't fix anything at the moment, the only way to update your game is to upload it somewhere and provide links in the description
that's what I did anyway
They'll play the submission you have on itch, the submission game files should be locked on itch, so you can't change them after the deadline.
@carmine kindle https://www.dropbox.com/s/9wlpdhite9o3o58/Heaven's Ire.zip?dl=0
Yeah, I found it now
here is the proper version to play, it still has game breaking issues
Ah okay, thanks. But I can update it so friends etc could play a less buggier version then? If they just have my itch link and not the submission link?
but the initial experience is good
I don't think you can upload new builds for your game to itch, but you could upload new versions somewhere else and put a link to it in your game's description.
Yeah. Only the locked itch file will be considered for the jam.
I always play my game after building and record the gameplay footage even if I dont edit it just to make sure all is well
I do the playthrough while the zip file is uploading. This go, I uploaded 4 times before submitting because I kept finding bugs lok
well i'm trying to make a cool trailer
but the editor keeps crashing when building light
@turbid timber - you can upload new versions to Itch after the Jam is over, but until then it's locked
I usually polish quite a bit after the deadline and upload it when judging is over.
This is the first time I am actually proud of my game.
What did you make? Link it
Nice, comes with a free fbx of the ue4 mannequin ๐
? What do u mean?
In the zip, there's a fbx called "exportfromblender"
just outside the main folder
Dunno how that got there
ู ุฎู
lol
i'm downloading your game
how about you @carmine kindle what did you make ?
I was using that to study UE4<->Blender epic skeleton
I made just a little joke game that I started a few hours before the jam deadline https://bohrium.itch.io/melty-snow
That was cool Clickety, I like the ice shader thing when stuff got killed.
i don't know how i'll update the game
if the editor keeps crashing when building lighting
Just do fully dynamic lighting, unless you're struggling with performance
I'm gonna try to make my game run on android
@carmine kindle UMG problem?
With what?
Idk
when is the gamejam stream for closing?
Hey guys, in the end I decided to step out of the jam
but thanks a lot for the critique, help and advices
best of luck for the ones that submited entries and I can't wait for the next one
This is what my pixelated RPG became:
An ARPG I did solo for #UnrealJam. I haven't submitted it 'cuz I thought it wasn't going to stand out.
Always good to participate in jams and learn a thing or two about @UnrealEngine
Full video here: https://t.co/wzvcSw4Pk4

full video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4EgBRbiFvk
My "submission" for the Unreal Spring Jam 2020.
I haven't submitted it because I'm very critique about my work and didn't think it would stand out. I aimed for a zelda-like RPG and of course, it was made with Unreal Engine (4.24).
Everything in the video was done in 3 day by ...
Sweet jesus it actually runs with Post Process off. Need 2 buttons
Runs smooth on phone. I could rewrite all the materials and toon shade at the material level and it might be a neat game for google play
@hardy rune , looks great man, good luck next time :)
@rugged plaza if you need any help with Android, Google Play Services, and Mobile in general, contact me
I'll help with what i can ๐
@hoary trout thanks I have been mostly developing for Android though I already implemented full touch controls. I just would have to remake all the materials to skip post processing
Outline shaders directly in the materials are easy but I dunno how to do color banding stuff. I guess that is my next learning path
Well i'm not speaking about the game development itself, i'm here to help you with publishing etc..
Oh OK. I already paid for google play account. Just never posted anything yet so I will give you a call out
you can say I have an expert opinion, atleast my title is "Information Systems Expert Consultant" in places where I work
just DM me if you need anything ๐
also I'll review your game after the dota2 tournament finishes this day
For our second gamejam, we at Slappy Inc. had a great time this jam! Everything went way smoother than the megajam.
And we're happy we got it under 1GB ๐
Hope you guys have a blast playing it: https://slappy-inc.itch.io/aztlan-uncovered
This is my first ue4 gamejam, although my client will kill me if i miss the deadline i had to participate in it ๐ . This i made in around 20 working hours. https://itch.io/jam/2020-unreal-spring-jam/rate/667180
I hope you like it!
I see you as well are a man of taste
Synty Polygon
Definitely gonna play and rate this later in the evening
Thank you. I'm a guy who thinks all graphic style are good just you need to fit them to the whole ambient.
Synty is amazing
https://4eons.itch.io/left-in-the-snow
This is the game we made for the epic gamejam 2020. Hope you enjoy it๐
https://youtu.be/GQdGhuDY1qs
And this is a short gameplay trailer for the game
This game was made for the Epic GameJam 2020 by a group of four people.
We are a bunch of friends that met through our shared passion for Gaming, Animation and Art. We wanted to test our skills by putting together a game and tried out Unreal Game Jam as a team. The whole expe...
is @gaunt copper s stream starting soonish or am I bad at timezones
So many entries. Iโd love to play more but Iโm tapped out at trying 5
My connection sucks :p
Iโm disappointed at how some of the better games donโt fit the theme at all :/
such as?
It happens
to be fair, thats why the scoring has a thing based on that
I always try to tie in the theme in multiple ways just to make sure
probs what i would do better next time upon reflection
Accounting mayhem , aztlan uncovered, farm and seek
it ties in, but its only really blatant at one monent, its present but its metaphorical
I quite liked busy bees :3
Theme was a weird one. Shame to do something tied to a weather condition.
I know, but thatโs the obvious interpretation
The black lives matter game is an odd entry. Itโs barely a game, I guess the dev was just trying to be supportive which is cool
@minor hemlock thats kind of teh way i went with it, took it as saying of truth being inevitable despite being hidden etc
also, because i had no idea what to do with snow aspect at time to make it match theme well lol
The thawing element was tricky. I originally wanted to do a puzzle game in space where youโre a ships AI preventing frozen people thawing out due to malfunction
Was gonna call the ai snow
But the team couldnโt see the game
That's a cool concept.
I spy some space cat entries
(pun very much intended)
Lol
my scripting at times can be hit and mess, which is why i didnt go with some weather / thawing mechanic, but thats a pretty good concept
My game had a space cat in it but he didnโt make it into the game so heโs just an unused character mesh :p
which game is yours/your teams? @frozen wharf
With that AI concept, it would've been cool to interpret the theme as "the AI has a secret that will be revealed if one of the passengers thaws"
Or something like that.
Laika
so like some sort of quiz show lol
Hidden in snow = the AI called "Snow" harbors a secret. ๐
I love weird sci fi though, so yeah.
Definitely looking forward to playing some of your entries today, folks. There's quite a few!
@frozen wharf nioce gonna play it now
that looks good ๐
aye, those look really well done
Making a survival strategy game was a bit toooooo ambitious
Honestly suprised the game is playable and has a win condition
well, bout to play it now, heres goes ๐
woah thats a big file lol
good job getting it down 1GB
woah, i can see why its big, looks great
gonna give it a good play through, ill post a comment/review on submission place if you want ๐
Ah yeah would be fun to hear. My boyfriends been mumbling all day โI wish we fixed this. Or improved this..โ
And Iโm just like... itโs gamejam!?!
Who cares XD
How many was in your team btw? and also yeah, tbf, i think all people get fixated/frustrated at times during/post gamejams, even me haha
- There was some tag team with the art though as some could only work the weekend and others could only work Monday and Friday
@glass fossil considering i think there were less participants than last time but more submissions, reckon quite a few
Our team is all industry professionals though >_>. Bit of an unfair advantage over students and indies
For all game jam submission related conversations, please email community@unrealengine.com - We do not accept late submissions for the contest, but we do allow you to submit the game to the jam page. Details will be provided through email. Thanks everyone for participating, we're excited to play your games!
Ubisoft tech designer, render programmer from rare. 3 artists from wardog collective
aye, ngl, i can kind of tell haha
Cathartic to make something so small and quickly and not worry over every small thing for a change XD
aye, attention to detail on larger projects can drive any1 insane lol
@frozen wharf hehe a professional team swept the last megajam ๐ it happens
I think thereโs better games than ours tho. The downside is we all have jobs so not as much time to spend on it
(I'm surprised it doesn't happen more considering the prizes on the line, those licenses/equipment could go a long way for bootstrapping a small indie studio)
great ROI for a long weekend project
Yeah tbh we didnโt enter for the prizes as thereโs nothing there we really need or want. We just love using unreal over proprietary engines
Though my boyfriend is hype at the idea of a Houdini license as heโs been learning that a while
hell yeah
The prizes are really indie focused
Anyone else think of Letterkenny when someone says "to be fair"?
Though marketplace cash is always good. Always fun stuff to play around with and learn from on there
I can agree with play with, but learn from? ๐ค
I'd be using the prize to buy the weird assets left and right
Yeah always interesting to see how others build blueprints n stuff
I've learned things from some of the Marketplace assets. Sometimes what not to do, yes, but plenty of times I learned a new approach to something that I hadn't considered.
allar's stuff is where I learn all the poorly documented blueprint shortcuts like validated getters ๐
Hah, I bet.
Deffently wish I could do more, but really glad how this Jam went for me compared to the others I have done https://olinkalex.itch.io/a-door-between-seasons
@frozen wharf btw for getting resources in the game, do i need to press anything on screen?
never mind, just completed it lol
I'm starting my traditional UE4 gamejam playthrough marathon stream, playing all 273 entries, hop in and rate them together with me! https://www.twitch.tv/shadowriver
Wish we knew what we were doing with resources before finishing :p our programmer did the balance pass to make it playable
lol ive just posted a comment on it now, was very good overall, was surprised how long i spent on it as well, i ended up just using the tower to request new resources once energy was high enough
One of the team is real good at strategy games and he ended up with so many dogs XD
Then they all starved to death :p
The ui is a bit clunky at times but itโs the sort of thing you canโt really solve in a short amount of time. But I think we made some good quality of life choices Iโm happy with
Like the paw prints :3 I love those
The whole was great thing considering the short time, its really well done, also one thing i found really useful was the thermal view, infact i think at times I forgot to switch it off lol (i think in the end I had like 7K food)
Hah I havnt actually used thermal view at all
I forgot it was a thing as it was made while I was asleep
Our team is split between Asia and Europe so sometimes we couldnโt work together
When thunder got added it scared the sht out of me XD
How many One Man Army entries are there ?
don't think there is a filter to help
that would be useful. I had to click through a bunch of them to figure out how many other VR games there were. looks likeโฆ about four
(on a related note: play my VR game! http://mahalis.itch.io/blossom )
Quick question.. what's the general game jam etiquette on going back and updating Itch.io documentation/adding screen shots/gameplay videos to the project/submission page after the contest ends? Is that sort of stuff expected, or would it be frowned on?
You can't change your uploaded game until the judging is done
Oh yea sure, not anything in the game itself
editing screenshots and information should be fine
The game we developed for the jam, fully made in these 5 days.
Would like to know how everyone feels about the game.
It was kind of my first game jam with unreal engine
During the jam, I had some fun times getting data back out of Niagara to spawn a sound based on particle collisions. https://jrkhan.itch.io/persephones-party/devlog/153417/creating-sound-for-particle-collisions-with-niagara
@crude ether We just watched a playthrough of your game. Good job! ๐
@distant ibex Thank you! But where? ๐
working further, adding actual player body to game ๐ https://i.gyazo.com/6eea043936045cfeb954b0a6dd50ffb8.mp4
Shadowriver is doing playthroughs again on Twitch
I hope they are recorded
They are recorded
ROFL watching the play for my demo. He keeps dropping the eggs and missing the nest. ROFL
Cracking up - https://www.twitch.tv/videos/647091141?t=6h17m <-- This is where Egg Graup starts
Now I wish I moved the nest or had some logic that moved the nest to get super hard on 50
Laughing so hard I'm crying on 51/50
Meh for the win. Worth it just to watch the playthrough
its amazing
just amazing how when you want to update and polish your broken jam entry
the entire project causes the editor to crash
Deleting Intermediate and saved folders in the project folder could solve the crash
Though I can't promise it won't break anything else:D
https://youtu.be/9t20zx8ach0
Made a trailer for my jam entry! Spent way too much time on syncing clipsm with the beat
This is a small game made for Unreal Engine Spring Jam 2020.
i think i be streaming after ps5 event, now people watch ue4 stream ether way
or maybe i be hoping on ps5 event and we can watch it toghter ;p
playstation website btw looks down with too many redirects, or am I such lucky one only? ๐
Seems fine to me. Btw, #industry-chat is probably a good place to chat about the PS5 event when it comes on. I'll probably be in there.
@edgy fulcrum That looks super cute and Thatgamecompany-esque !
going to see if I can make mountain carvers society into a Steam viable product this next week ๐ค
@minor hemlock Exciting! I'm planning the same with my game. I didn't finish it for the jam, but I really like it and want to keep pursuing it.
hey everyone
I have some extra appids because of a misclick, so it'd be nice to get something shoved out for once ๐
and not spend months (or longer) only to drop it
I'm sorry to interrupt you guys but I just wanted to share the game that my team and I did
Please do.
games
I love to see what people made for the jam.
