^yeah imgur is so much simpler... and uhhh finally submited this was a fun one.. i was worried just last week recovered from a fried HDD and just had a random BSOD when i first tried packaging the game.. Thankfully it looks like it wasnt anything and second go around had no issues.

I'm having some issues with 4.14 physx too
but they could have just changed the ue4 functions I use to run only on tick which would cause the issues I'm having atm with it

the spawn gets activated after 1st score and is on timer. a bit too fast i guess, but i hate hour long score games ๐
and the music i made in beepbox, exported all segments as wav, and it goes from triplets to normal when u grab a box, and a single beat when in air
that killed the loop w/o gettin total random
and i changed the song a lil in triplets B4 getting the wavs , combined it gave a lot of variation

Hi, how ue4Jams really works?
A single person or a team up to 5* make a game in a period of time, I thought 3 days*. THe game has to somehow be related to the theme they announce on the stream the Thursday before.

but yeah, pretty much what @arctic widget wrote
team size 1-5, 3.5 days, make a game using UE4 (!) that fits the theme they announce on livestream when the jam starts
you can use sourced assets (bought/assets made prior to jam) but if you do so, you must disclose them from your entry by mentioning what sourced assets you used when you post the final game description and dl link to the forums
that way judges know not to give points for the work you didn't do during the game jam

Epic MegaJam was our biggest jam ever, the next month was our second smallest ever
But that's consistent
Every few months there is a spike, then it goes down, then a spike
It correlated to quarterly spiking and therefor quarterly interest
It was either that or bi-monthly, which Celeste suggested to me if this doesn't get people more interested
This is bad for those with heavy work schedules
I thought the bigger problem was that only a very very small percentage of the community is even aware that game jams exist
But, as I said on the stream, I'm a guy you know and can talk to and tell him he's wrong
Every unreal dev event I go to with 30-50 people, maybe 1 has even heard of the game jams /shrug

Students aren't coming in for many of the jams anyway, but the Epic MegaJam gets all the schools interested. In fact, educators care about that one and don't care about the other jams
So if I turn all the noisy little jams into 4 big ones where I collaborate with schools every time, then it actually gets exposed

The Epic MegaJam is the only thing that students seem to be paying attention to. In the UK, we have many universities that reach out to us and get involved. They do that only for the MegaJam and no others. That's why we get a huge spike as well as the prizes
The only jam SCAD promotes is GGJ
hmm with the megajam i tried a team, and didnt really work out so month after did something solo and was a lot better

The problem I found with the Dev battles was timing
Since I was dealing with devs around the world
It was hard to get them all together at the same time.

Do you think Thursday until Sunday midnight is still a good timeframe for jams or should they be shorter like Lundum Dare?
Like, to me, if people work, then it's more fair to start on Friday
Then everyone has the same amount of time.
But, obviously, regular game jams start Thursday at the end of stream
So should the time frame change to fit more accordingly to other game jams as well as give those who work more of a fair chance at the jam?
I would say that for me personally starting on Friday would improve the chances of me participating. For epic jams I take off Friday from work but for a jam that is still growing from the ground up I would be less inclined to miss work for it.

At the University of Washington I'd often try to not have Friday classes or would end up coming in for just one class

here in australia the current jam timeframe is the best as its 5-6am frday morning here when theme is announced so you have during the day friday to think about it before usually starting friday evening, im sure theres not many aust participants though.....although i think if the theme wasnt announced on the stream you would lose participants to a certian degree as people watching the stream and seeing theme might be inspired to enter and perhaps only hardcore jammers would bother to check for theme announce if it was a day later

For those who competed or at least tried to compete on a monthly basis, this is a pretty sad outcome. Epic's official #ue4jams will be held (until further notice) in March, June, September (Megajam) and finally December.
But, just because Epic is no longer holding it officially, it does not mean the community cannot come together and hold their own

Yeah, I didn't put the actual reasons there, but it doesn't really matter at this point
I'll say as someone who's tried to participate in every jam in 2016 (i thnk i did 8/12), It's kinda sad to see it go since we've enjoyed our share of shirt / goodies, and it was definitely a good portfolio builder as a student with no real world experience.
I am looking forward to the new prizes though and hopefully a more thorough judging and submission process since this one now is prone to cheating. I'd definitely participate in an unofficial jam if you do host one victor.

about starting up a website dedicated for ue4jams
I'd say leave an hour or two post-jam (especially because it's just for fun) for uploading and building problems.
If the discord chat for whatever reason is not good for the majority, I'll look into that idea again
as far as pre-made assets go. Your best bet is probably just using common sense on what's possible within a jam given team size, but yeah that's probably not enforcable in online-jams
Well, if I can get some kind of external sponsorship, having some prizes would be nice. I'm still thinking about what to do, if I want to come out of pocket for prizes though.

Because 40+ games a month is not something small
It was still a long ass stream for me
And I think it was one of the best months for a game jam

Also, jam after last megajam was first that removed raffles, although I kinda doubt that had much to do with people attending

If there is a crazy amount of entries, I will just have to divide it up for the week
As cheaters are not always the types who plan ahead unless they have a motive
But I have a good feeling now of how long it would take me on average to get through them
And if things get too crazy still, I will just limit my time on each entry to a certain max

There will always be those who use game jam to extend their existing project though

yeah, I can say that in Finland, that schedule was always nice, we got the theme around 10pm and then could go to sleep and digest the theme, deadline was at 7 AM on Monday here
although that usually means that you don't sleep until you finish on Sunday-Monday night
