or you just need to know their velocity actually
then you can calculate the speed they impact when you take your ships velocity into account
and fire impulse to bounce them off & another slow you down if the impact is not above some threshold

i was going to use splines a lot in this jam but didn't have any time to make anything. I had only just looked into how to use them though.

tech has been ages in the engine
it's just been exposed to blueprints
when stuff get out of experimental, do they make a test build for that feature?

That's probably the main reason I don't enter the ue4 jams- lack of a team.
Last time I teamed with someone 'random' it was a complete mess.
The level design didn't use the game's mechanics, and I didn't even get the level until the last day, and late into it as well.
Allar played it and couldn't understand the game at all.

I've actually seen a character artist try their hand at level work.
Not to say all character artists can't do LD.
But that one couldn't.

I didn't test enough was my problem. I got stuck in the "this is the right way to beat the level" and didn't even notice the ways to get stuck

she got to level 9 so not faulting her, i kinda "fixed" level 9 at the last minute and never really tested it
nah you were not supposed to go back up to the left, that caused you to fall thru, for example
@mint flint This is where you add in "dev cheat codes" for them to skip a level and say it in chat if you see them struggle
well yeah but it was a bug because I didn't test it right lol

yeah I did add in a cheat plus I was smart enough to have each level able to be skipped using console commands this time

but once i got the pipes in I knew the game was fucked anyways because of dead pipes

@ashen meadow tbh, you dont even need collision or physics engine for a game like that, although it can simplify the design if done properly
Tetris was one of the first games I did and I only used 2D arrays

though i've never been able to merge two themes yet ๐
@ashen meadow oh, I don't know if I used any common trick for it, just used few pieces of paper to figure out how the blocks would move in the play area then stored the playarea into 2D array and all blocks as well on their own small ones, then on each drop I just checked if the small array fit into that position on the playarea and did things accordingly
with physics engines collision detection, you could simplify that a lot
which I think you tried to do but there were some bugs left in the logic

From now on, every team participating in #ue4jam will have access to a FREE 5-user Online Perforce Server workspace on the Unofficial "UE4JAM" Assembla Server. How this will work is, you sign up on Assembla (www.assembla.com), and your team's lead, will message me all your usernames, from there, you will be given a workspace to work in. I will give each team a few days prior to get themselves situated on Assembla, be a point of contact for Questions/Issues that may arise, as well as keep the projects up for maybe a week or so afterwards, so they can continue working on it and seeing if they plan on turning it into a full project.

But yeah, what's nice about this deal...I have FULL CONTROL, so if teams wanted to work on the game post jam... I can work with them individually
And allow them to play around with it for a week or two and not have to worry about finding another SC for awhile
