foggy path
#

I need to try that Subnautica DLC thing at some point

zinc matrix
#

there is no justification for eating meat.

foggy path
#

I wonder how far along are they with it now

light spruce
#

no idea

#

I know two things about it: the name, and that there isn't a grapple arm in it

#

and if I can't be Underwater Robot Spider-Man then I don't even care

foggy path
#

:D

#

I clearly need to add a grappling hook to my game

#

even though it would be 100% out of place to have one

light spruce
#

It's on the list of essential mechanics.

#

Every game needs a grappling hook. Every game needs double jumping. Every game needs a stake launcher.

#

Dubstep gun. Every game needs a dubstep gun.

#

Nah. Zombies aren't essential. Kinda like wall-running. A staple but not a requirement.

zinc matrix
#

Dubstep has been criminally underused as a weapon

#

I mean what else has that kind of offensive power.

foggy path
#

Biebergun

zinc matrix
#

See that is more of a status effect item

foggy path
#

lol

light spruce
#

It was unnecessarily powerful in Saints Row 4

foggy path
#

any of you play Moonwalker on Genesis?

#

You could do a special move in it where MJ would start dancing and all the enemies joined you

#

and at the end they'd just die

#

:D

light spruce
#

I'll do you one better. I also played the arcade one.

zinc matrix
#

Did it have a DDR style mat where you had to dance like MJ

foggy path
#

haha

#

did the Genesis even have a peripheral like that

light spruce
#

It's probably a good thing that it didn't.

foggy path
#

I guess you coulda done it on the nintendo activator mat thing?

zinc matrix
#

Seeing the time it was out in, I would not be surprised if it did

#

Peripherals back then were wild

foggy path
#

I don't think any games really used a DDR type pad until... DDR

light spruce
#

Power Pad. I believe the Activator was the name of that stupid ring thing for the Genesis

foggy path
#

ohh right that's what it was

#

I get the names mixed up

light spruce
#

The flip side of the Power Pad had something for a... I don't think it was a dance game exactly

foggy path
#

Track & Field?

#

:D

#

I actually saw a video recently about playing CSGO on a dance mat

light spruce
#

Dance Aerobics

foggy path
#

it seemed to work about as well as one might expect

light spruce
#

I've seen someone play it with a steering wheel

#

Dark Souls played with both a guitar controller and some drum pad thing

zinc matrix
#

Dark souls on a dance mat I have seen

#

I feel like that sentence is grammatically weird

light spruce
#

That's fucking stupid. Do you know how hard it is to throw a dance pad across the room?

zinc matrix
#

I don't, We don't have them here.

#

Or well I have never seen one in real life.

light spruce
#

A lot harder than a controller

#

"Released as Manhattan Police (マンハッタンポリス) in Japan,[16] Street Cop is a game where the player has to chase after criminals while jumping over things and using the club to apprehend the foes. The player has to step on the buttons corresponding to each of the cop's actions, such as moving, jumping and clubbing."

zinc matrix
#

I don't know, I have never seen a controller either, they do exist here, I have never seen them.

light spruce
#

do you just live inside an active volcano or something?

zinc matrix
#

I have used a PC all my life

#

which is not a very long life

light spruce
#

"Rai Rai! Kyonshis: Baby Kyonshi no Amida Daibōken (来来! キョンシーズ。 ベビーキョンシーのあみだ大冒険, Come come! Fallen Corpses: Baby Fallen Corpse's Amedia Great Adventure) is the tenth and final game released for the Family Trainer series by Bandai, and it was released only in Japan on January 26, 1989." What the fuck?

zinc matrix
#

Also here, you don't get stuff to game on.

#

You buy a pc for School and then get the games when sales make them cheap enough

light spruce
#

South Korea?

zinc matrix
#

India

light spruce
#

Practically the same thing.

#

Korea, India... same number of letters... both end in an A

zinc matrix
#

Except Gaming is or pretty big in South Korea

light spruce
#

I think they might still do the "go out and play video games somewhere else" thing

#

"rent PC time to play League of Legends that would run on your bathroom scale"

zinc matrix
#

Also for most of my gaming life, I had a potato pc, so I have played titles that people would not think an Indian guy who started gaming in 2016 would have played.

#

Like Zelda, no one here in India knows Zelda.

light spruce
#

and here I was hoping it was going to be something like OG XCOM

zinc matrix
#

I have not played XCOM

#

I did play Fire emblem though

#

Which is like XCOM in a lot of aspects

ancient ingot
#

I like bunnie

#

s

light spruce
#

Just play nothing but old DOS games until you lose your mind.

#

Or for thirty minutes. Whichever happens first.

zinc matrix
#

I have finally started to play some newer games now, so no thank you.

#

I will use my not potato laptop to game

light spruce
#

my notebook is a 200 dollar chromebook running Linux.

zinc matrix
#

I am sad that I don't know if that is cheap or expensive

#

Rupees and dollars don't work well

light spruce
#

It's pretty cheap

zinc matrix
#

Okay I know we have different economies so it makes sense, but 200 dollars straight turned into rupees is a decent amount of money

#

Like that is the more than the average salary a graduate gets

light spruce
#

37% of a Glock 19 Gen 5. 40 cups of a small flavored latte at a local coffee shop. 2 353 extra large eggs. 238 liters of Coca-Cola.

foggy path
#

200 dollars is like less than half of my rent :P that kind of salary would really not work here

#

it's kind of interesting how that stuff happens tbh since the cost of things doesn't really change by region and yet in some countries it's a lot cheaper

#

but taxes and exchange rates and all sorts of things just affect it I guess

light spruce
#

I actually didn't realize how cheap eggs were.

foggy path
#

I don't even know how much eggs are :X

light spruce
#

I don't eat them very often. Ate too many of them on keto many moons ago... so most of the time I'd rather eat cardboard

foggy path
#

heh

#

I don't really know how much anything costs at the grocery store tbh

#

I don't really look at the price of food because I know I can afford it and it doesn't matter :P

solid aurora
#

well

#

I just look if it is bio or not ;p

#

which means I usually pay twice as much

foggy path
#

bio?

solid aurora
#

organic

foggy path
#

ah

solid aurora
#

idk how it is in english

foggy path
#

I think organic :)

solid aurora
#

unless I'm on the local market, where I known who sells what then it is cheap and organic : D

foggy path
#

I think there's two varieties of that when it comes to eggs

#

slightly more free chickens

#

and a lot more free chickens

#

:P

solid aurora
#

and chickens on free air eating whatever they want ;p

light spruce
#

"cage-free" eggs just mean "there's a billion chickens shitting everywhere in what amounts to an airplane hangar"

solid aurora
#

that's the one i buy

foggy path
#

there's a thing here nowadays where you can rent chickens to keep at your house

solid aurora
#

wait

#

if I have actuall house

#

I don't need to rent chickens

#

I just have them : D

foggy path
#

well it's kinda like people don't necessarily want to actually become chicken farmers so they might just rent chickens for a month or two during summer holidays or something

#

that's the idea from what I understand anyway

solid aurora
#

well yeah, I just never assumed keeping like 5-7 chickens is an issue

#

but then

#

my grandpartens had them and we had them for some time

#

so my idea might be skwed : D

light spruce
#

no farm animals for me

#

I'm pretty sure Josh from Let's Game It Out suffered some kind of traumatic brain injury

fringe sundial
#

its super slow couse its rendering all the splides and all of the objects moving on the belts

light spruce
#

okay, I thought that was crazy... I was wrong. He managed to build something that takes coal 3 hours to travel from the mining site to his base.

fringe sundial
#

it also shows something. Belts only calculate when you look at them

#

i would like to see satisfactory codebase,i wonder how exactly do the belts and machines work to achieve scalability

light spruce
#

all instanced and the objects on the belts aren't actually real, I think

fringe sundial
#

yeah, thats for sure

#

they dont exist if you dont look at them

#

thats important because unreal engine bottlenecks HARD on moving instanced meshes around

#

obviously each object type is likely not an actor, it would crap too much

#

maybe even each belt isnt an actor

light spruce
#

There's a fixed item rate for a particular belt type. There's a minimum of spacing between items. So you could just have it be an array with a timer. If your input rate is lower than the output rate, then you wind up with empty values in the array.

fringe sundial
#

nope, timers arent enough

#

for the scalability the guys have

#

timers are cheap but not that much

#

maybe it does something similar to factorio with tryhrded data arrays

light spruce
#

You have to have timing somewhere or you'd never know when it gets there.

fringe sundial
#

yeah but it probably does it centralized

#

or maybe one system per "chain" of belts

#

so if you have a very long belt chain

#

it actually is only 1 "object"

#

and that calculates the scrolling on the stuff on it

light spruce
#

yeah, that's what I was talking about

fringe sundial
#

factorio goes even one step ahead. It only "scrolls" the first object in a chain of belts

#

and the other objects are not calculated every frame, just calculated as "offset" from the first

#

interesting thing, look at the belt weave vs the cone

#

belt weave doesnt nuke fps

#

cone does

#

i think its due to how bottlenecked unreal engine is when moving isntanced meshes

#

if you do some serious tryharding with niagara you can kinda skip those overheads

#

but generally its horribly slow because unreal only lets you update instanced meshes 1 at a time

light spruce
#

oh the belt weave definitely tanks fps with stuff on it

#

and the update rate on the visuals is absolutely distance dependent

fringe sundial
#

if i was to make it myself

#

each belt chain would be one "object"

#

which keeps an array of stuff in it, ordered

#

then that gets scrolled every game tick

#

and if its in view and needs rendering, it gets converted into instanced mesh positions

light spruce
#

That's what I'm thinking it does. It'd be interesting to see if it performed like total dogshit if you just kept making short belts and splitters.

fringe sundial
#

each belt section is likely 1 spline mesh, or a few of them

ancient ingot
#

stop reverse engineering it in real time you making me think im thick lol

light spruce
#

that's spelled with three c's

ancient ingot
#

😛

light spruce
#

At least this game doesn't make you deal with belt sides like Factorio

fringe sundial
#

but thats the fun part of factorio

#

everything is more detailed and complex

#

except you also have stuff like bots

#

to easily copypaste rigs

#

in satisfactory, making everything manual is super annoying

#

sometimes i just want to copy a rig i made for X and change recipes to Y

#

or i want to create a 20 long chain of smelters

zinc matrix
fringe sundial
#

but having to do everything individually is SUCH a huge pain

light spruce
#

last time I played, I used a mod that made the arms less dumb

#

Also made using train cars as buffer boxes slightly less irritating

fringe sundial
#

im playing with splace exploration

#

and krastorio

#

so i have new recipes on stuff and also send stuff to the moons and back

#

space stations with manufacturing and other fun stuff

fluid bloom
#

I'm disappointed if the 3000 series GPUs can't handle dynamic/vertex animated stuff in their RTX solver chip

fringe sundial
#

@fluid bloom not gonna happen

#

that would need hardware acceleration BVH building

#

it exists, but its still researchy and not good to plug in gpus

light spruce
#

never stopped nvidia before from cramming random expensive shit into cards

fluid bloom
#

<--- proud owner of the first GPU that had hardware transform and lighting

light spruce
#

I'm proud to have never owned a 3dfx product

solid aurora
#

3090 seems so overegineered this time that I see only two possibilities

#

production process is crap

#

RDNA2 is actually better than we think and nvidia want to make sure they stay on top

light spruce
#

or just "nvidia"

soft night
#

nvidia voodoo card owner right here

fluid bloom
#

oh look, amd stock is at 91 usd

#

good thing I sold at 51

xD

fluid bloom
#

indeed

#

where else would the others get their monies if not from me?

light spruce

get high and get low

stiff crystal
#

everyone prepared for more gigarays now?

ancient ingot
#

🍿

solid aurora
#

my credit card is ready

#

but for real

#

I'm also waiting to see RDNA2

#

it's pointless yo buy now if month later there will be AMD new gpu

cold heath
#

hi

fringe sundial
#

@solid aurora rumors of big navi put the flagship RDNA 2 gpu at basically the xbox series X but double the cores

#

such a thing would be an absolute unit of a gpu

#

given the xbox is around 2080 super level

solid aurora
#

yeah been looking at it for some time

#

it seems like RDNA2 might be really monstrous if they put it at 350w of TDP

#

the Xbox version is basically cut in half

#

and generate like what 150w ?

#

that's nothing for PC

#

and honestly I'd like to get AMD GPU this time around

#

because of linux drivers

fluid bloom
#

3090 memory amount is ridiculous

#

24 GB vram

#

xD

#

that is all I can say

solid aurora
#

it really titan equivalent

#

next year there will be something like 3080 super ti with the same amount of cores lower frequences and half memory

#

this time around

#

i'm cautiously optimistic

#

that AMD have something at least very close to actual nvidia flagship killer

#

especially since games on PC finally started to catch with AMD architecture

ancient ingot
#

can unreal safely handle a terrain that's 10x10km ?

ebon onyx
#

Visually, yes. That's playable? No. You run out of transform precision and start sacrificing accuracy after 2km.

#

But that'll be the case for almost any engine, at least for multiplayer

ancient ingot
#

well, the origin shifting should deal with that ?

#

?

ebon onyx
#

You can't shift the server, only the clients. Anything related to gameplay will still have issues

ancient ingot
#

hmm so i have to find a sweet spot above 2k that works reasonably well? that's gonna be way under a decent landscape size though

soft night

we are prepared for Unreal Rays

more and more I think we should cordon off USA from the rest of the world 😄

That's what the problem is

I was just going off the tangent here

Ah ok. Sorry that's my bad. I have trouble reading a situation sometimes

That 3080 though

proud pier

"This is flagship"

#

It would be sad if so

(But I guess technically it's true for current flagship)

tranquil sonnet

They usually announce the "ti" versions later I think

faint dock

yeah

proud pier
#

Nice presentation though

solid aurora
#

rumors were hot with 3090

faint dock

there's a hole between 3080 and 3090

proud pier

I doubt they will do 3090 this year though

especially from third party vendors

proud pier

If so

3090

that's 850 euro

I want to see the 3070ti though

Really impressed with these prices.

proud pier

I have a 1070ti

solid aurora
#

where is the true 1400$ high end ?

proud pier
#

boo, $499

faint dock
#

one more thing TM

proud pier
#

$499 used to be the XX80 series if you all remember

#

20-series they secretely switched pricing/model numbers 😉

faint dock
#

yeah prices are steeper than 20 series

tranquil sonnet
#

Did they have a new PSU connector too or was that some kind of rumor only?

faint dock

the psu adapter comes with the GPU

proud pier
#

I guess these are the new prices for xx70 and xx80 series

faint dock
#

that's what we said 2 years ago lol

proud pier
#

Aye, I skiped 20 series because of that

faint dock
#

same

fresh heath
#

Now it's time to upgrade my 1070

proud pier
#

Hoped 30-series would have came back down on prices

faint dock

didn't want to get 1st gen RT

It's decent pricing, but meh

solid aurora

there is no going back in prices

#

thanks miners

proud pier
#

Nope, it's over

faint dock
#

2nd gen looks way more like it

proud pier
#

I still don't know if I need RTX, so I'll just wait until next year

faint dock
#

did they mention VRAM size?

solid aurora
#

no

bronze axle
#

Now it's time to upgrade my 1070
@fresh heath Same here. Building a new machine for Black Friday. Since these are at the same price point as the 20 series equivalents, I'm probably going with a 30 series card (unless of course there are glaring issues at launch).

solid aurora
#

but it doesn't matter really

why

they are supporting DirectStorage

so did they drop the Ti system and just up the number? why not

I'll be sticking with a 3080 at most.

you gonna need that

along with threadripper

😄

but for real

Yeah, I mean, if you really need to get the best

#

get the 3080

solid aurora
#

the numbers are not that much different

proud pier
#

But, if you can wait a little

#

Might as well wait for Ti models

fresh heath

I wish AMD stepped up

solid aurora

meh I can wait all my life for new thing

#

And price drops 😉

solid aurora
#

upgrade from 1080ti is worth it now

soft night
#

if you want to titan level beast get RTX3090

faint dock
#

i also guess there;s limited availability at the start anyway

#

and price scalpers waited 2 years for this

fluid bloom
#

I might just get nvidia simply due to dlss, anything to get rid of TAA

solid aurora
#

you won't get rid of TAA

fluid bloom
#

lies and slander

solid aurora
#

you can make it sharper ;p

ancient hornet
#

the NVidia own RTX samples example teach you TAA in like a few steps after the start 😄

faint dock
#

where we are going, we don't need no TAA

bronze axle
#

The Ampere lineup looks great.

#

$499.

fluid bloom
#

@faint dock no amount of pixels will help with aliasing

faint dock
#

your eyes want to have a word with you

fluid bloom
#

temporal aliasing? Duh 😛

#

specular flickering etc

faint dock
#

at some point you just don't see it anymore

fluid bloom
#

unless you can somehow do infinite samples and rasterize that

#

sure you will

faint dock
#

ok

bronze axle
#

I'll get a 3080 for my workstation and two 3090s for my workout.

fathom wadi
#

How many triangles do we even need to render these days? I mean, if UE5 heads up the pixel ratio rendering at 1:1 and we can scale up, do we really need a 3090? The answer is yes. Now give me all your money sound of gun cocking

bronze axle
#

Unless I start getting very demanding client work in the future, I can't imagine buying a 3090. So far out of my league.

faint dock
#

bling bling

fathom wadi
#

I don't want it for client work. I just have a fetish for powerful GPUs. My 1080ti is still rocking 4k games at 60hz so I ain't complaining tho.

#

OLED on the gpu is like putting flowers on the inside of a turd. You ain't ever gonna see it so what's the point?

#

First thing I did when I got my 1080ti, found out how to turn off all the lights. I mean, sure it's nice in a display case. But mine is under the desk being looked at by my feet

#

And now for something completely different....

#

Neural network in a weekend. Have fun.

fluid bloom
#

there's one problem with that

#

it's c++

ancient hornet
#

I don't see the problem

fluid bloom
#

can't wait for the module system

#

getting rid of header files will make it far more enjoyable to write 😄

fathom wadi
#

I don't see why headers are such an issue. I mean, the code has been using it for what 30 years? You would think if it was such a hinderance then it would have been dealt with by now :/

fluid bloom
#

I don't want to do the job of a compiler

fathom wadi
#

what it could use is some algorithmic system that finds missing headers and incorrect headers properly

fluid bloom
#

module system will make all that way better

fathom wadi
#

isn't that replacing one caveat with another?

fluid bloom
#

no?

fathom wadi
#

Modules still have to be loaded, in the right place, etc, just like headers.

broken sigil
#

Well if rtx 3090 is $1200, here it's gonna be around $2400...

For the rtx 2080 I payed around $1100 where I live, everything is super overpriced here 😐

fluid bloom
#

header includes in C/C++ aren't done with some sort of smart system

#

they're literally copy pastes of text

#

without any thought

#

the pre processor just searches the include dirs and then plops the content there

#

no modules or anything, just a copy paste from some file

fathom wadi
#

and what does it do with a module?

hmm think you may be right there

wet smelt

well ye

#

but h210 looks neat

#

but just a consideration tho

#

either that or the h1

#

now i have more options

north torrent
#

This is called the C24. It is slightly bigger.

#

Now this would actually fit an RTX 3090...

solid aurora
#

probabaly not

#

you would have hard time actually cooling it

#

without some custom water cooling which will sit outside of case

north torrent
#

I honestly think the idea that having a bunch of unused space is better than having direct airflow from a fan sitting next to a heatsink is kind of silly.

#

Empty space inside a case does not equal good thermals.

broken sigil
#

it generally does
More space means it takes longer to heat up all the air inside but it also means you need good airflow to be able to push all the hot air out, if you don't you will quickly get the same thermal performance as with a smaller case

north torrent
#

But a smaller case makes it much easier to move air in and out in exactly the way that is best for your configuration.

#

More space equals less air pressure from the fans.

broken sigil
#

but you have a much smaller volume of air available which means it will heat up much much quicker

north torrent
#

Not if it is out of the case...

#

Because of the out-take fan...

mossy nexus
#

if you are expelling the air, the volume of air is not relevant. Well it is as the larger the volume the greater the fan power needed.

broken sigil
#

yeah if you have enough air pressure to move the air out of the case fast enough you will get much better performance with bigger volume
I moved from a midi case to full tower a few months ago and the overall max temps dropped by around 20 degrees

#

C

mossy nexus
#

I'd argue that it's not the volume of air that did that, more the improved air flow.

#

Better designed cases are great

north torrent
#

Generally a GPU sitting next to some sort of grill so it can bring in outside air is going to be much better than the GPU just bringing in air from inside the case.

broken sigil
#

air volume definitely plays a huge role

mossy nexus
#

only if you have shit fans or poor case design.

north torrent
#

I don't believe that air volume is even a minor positive in most circumstances.

mossy nexus
#

^

broken sigil
#

well that's your opinion not a fact

north torrent
#

With only owning a few computers and having seen other people on YouTube benchmark stuff, it certainly is not a fact. But it is a hypothesis based on data.

mossy nexus
#

The greater the volume of air, the more fan power required to move it. Smaller volumes of air are easier to move, which is a fact. Therefore sufficient fan power + smaller volume of air = better. Fact.

broken sigil
#

not true
it's a pretty simple fact that more air volume means that it will take longer for the air inside to heat up, you will only get the benefit of more air volume if you have sufficient air pressure
If you have components that produce a lot of heat a small volume of air can heat up before the air can even escape the case, having more volume gives you a "reserve" of "fresh" air, simple really

north torrent
#

Sounds like what people have been assuming for the past decade, yes.

#

But I don't think it is true.

#

My hypothesis is that outside air is always better than inside air.

light spruce
#

It's true, but given the speed at which the temperature change occurs and the small volume of air you're dealing with, it's completely irrelevant.

#

and the best case is a test bench

north torrent
#

A perfect air tunnel might be better than a test bench... just theoretically.

light spruce
#

I don't know what a perfect air tunnel would be

north torrent
#

Giant fan on one end, giant fan on the other end, air goes in one end, air goes out the other.

light spruce
#

so a test bench... but in an HVAC duct

north torrent
#

Yes.

zinc matrix
light spruce
#

I'd like to start my own case line called "a box for your fucking computer parts"

zinc matrix

If I'm gonna build a PC that is not in mini case, it will be custom case, wall mounted. With glass in front, and vacuum inside.

light spruce

being in a vacuum is not thermally efficient

You assume now that you can release on EGS

it is not open platform to sell on like steam, only limited amount of games get through

light spruce

And what game was it where they got offered an exclusive, declined, and then Epic said, "Well, we really don't want it on the store at all then"?

But getting game on EGS itself is the bigger challenge

light spruce

But I can't remember what it was, probably because it wasn't something that I would ever play.

stiff crystal
#

You probably cant find a single new indie game on egs that would have had day one release on steam too

#

They only seem to make exceptions for some bigger publishers and games

#

So even if they dont publicly admit they have this limitation, it obviously is there

light spruce
#

I find it kind of interesting that your options would wind up being "If you release it on EGS, you'll have a bunch of people who won't buy it (and probably wouldn't have) because it's not on Steam. Or, you release it on Steam and it's immediately buried under a pile of rotting food and diapers and all those people who will only buy stuff on Steam never see it."

stiff crystal
#

Yeah it sucks :/

#

But egs exclusivity is apparently always timed, so ypu could still release on steam year later etc

#

For some games, year is too long

light spruce
#

That's the great benefit of Steam being like, "Yeah, sure, we'll sell anything and no one will find any of it because you're just sorting through a sea of trash"

Well kinda. But if you have a niche genre there really isnt all that much other offerings to hide your game

I like steams recommendations, it is a clever system

light spruce
#

Well someone somewhere needs to see it

stiff crystal
#

Like it tells what my friends have been playing, what they've wishlisted etc

foggy path
#

yeah that's a good system but it doesn't really build on the store browsing imo

light spruce
#

I'm not a good judge here though because I don't work like other people do. And also my tastes for things are so wide that any kind of recommendation system fails catastrophically.

foggy path
#

how many games etc. have you wishlisted and played based on just browsing steam randomly

#

for me it's pretty close to 0 :P

stiff crystal
#

When my steam friends play same genre games mostly, those give me quite relevant discovery

#

I've discovered bunch myself

light spruce
#

Easy example is that my autogenerated YouTube music playlist will have eight songs in a row from widely different genres. It's some schizophrenic shit

stiff crystal
#

Also even if I already knew about the game, having it pop up on these will make me wishlist it asap I see it on the recommendations etc

#

Without that I might totally miss it

#

This is something I feel other stores miss the most when comparing to steam

light spruce
#

I've had a few things that have come up randomly that I've picked up. Fuck knows if I could tell you what games those were.

stiff crystal
#

That + game specific forums

light spruce
#

And I don't have friends anymore for recommendations.

fallow finch
#

Guys after this long disciussions

#

Its not allowed to release a game on egs

foggy path
#

what the fuck

#

this has to be a joke lol

#

stream Chrome from a server to make it faster? seriously...

wheat narwhal
#

To be fair. Over 85% of the stuff I've seen on Steam feel more like someone's pet project that they thought was fantastic and decided to try and publish as a game. Usually bad UI, unintuitive controls, three different art directions, etc and topped off with a bad PR manager that gives you the impression that it's never going to get better. That stuff that gets hidden is usually buried for a reason.

fluid bloom
#

the game, not the theme that is

@foggy path wha

#

what

#

thats

#

wack

light spruce
#

Makes perfect sense to me. I mean, how else would you make it faster?

foggy path
#

@fluid bloom of Minebombers? There is one on Steam

fluid bloom
#

is there?

#

da fuq

foggy path
#

it's called Gun Bombers

fluid bloom
#

cool 😄

foggy path
#

how about a remake of the DBTL game from Skitso Productions lol

ancient hornet
#

the game, not the theme that is
I used to play that in local with my brother 😄 it was pretty neat indeed

light spruce
#

counter proposal: listening to the Fallout 4 theme for four hours

thorny dock
#

i'd personally rather listen to you stadium sell me beer and booster card packs for four hours

light spruce
#

The Fallout 4 theme is excellent

wind oyster
#

It's the best part of the game

light spruce
#

Pretty definitely. As a second best though, I really did like the laser musket. Not so much the having to hit reload six times to fully crank it for one shot, but it sounded awesome. And with the slow time while aiming legendary, it was pretty great blowing people's heads off with it.

#

epic should also allow exclusives to sell on itch, no1 buys there anyways, its under 30% and now no1 can say its exclusive 😛

ancient hornet
#

a lot of the exclusives were available on the xbox subscription thing no?

carmine frigate
#

i have no idea i dont play a lot of games 😛

lucid walrus
#

so when is this coming to Unreal?

light spruce
#

I don't know; I don't follow soccer

wet smelt
#

i read a lil something

#

epic may not be able to prove antitrust breach vs apple

ancient hornet
#

I don't know, Epic has good lawyers experienced in that kind of cases, they probably saw a lot coming

#

what did you even read anyway?

north torrent
#

If the new iPad doesn't have an RTX 3090, does it even matter what Apple does?

wet smelt
#

here's an excerpt:

"If iOS mobile devices constitute the market, Epic will have a much easier time establishing that Apple engages in "anticompetitive conduct" and "monopolizes" the market for three reasons: (1) Apple prevents other companies from setting up their own app stores; (2) Apple prevents other companies from providing their own "payment processing" services in the market; and, of course, (3) Apple imposes an arguably unreasonably high fee upon sales in the market (30%), to the detriment of consumers."

and another one:

"However, if the market consists of all mobile devices, Epic may not be able to prove that Apple has a monopoly. The FTC states that, in antitrust cases, "Courts look at the firm's market share, but typically do not find monopoly power if the firm (or a group of firms acting in concert) has less than 50 percent of the sales of a particular product or service within a certain geographic area. Some courts have required much higher percentages.""

#

it looks at phones as a whole

#

not phones from apple or android

#

so they can't argue apple breaches antitrust in the smartphone market as a whole when there are other markets; amazon's and play store

#

they could argue it, vs apple if the market is only focused on iOS

light spruce
#

I'm looking forward to continually hearing about it for the next several years.

wet smelt
#

yh

ancient hornet
#

Apple does have more than 50% marketshare in the US though

wet smelt
#

globally no

ancient hornet
#

isn't the US what matters mostly for a US court?

#

Apple has more than 50% of the App Store marketshare in spending too

wet smelt
#

not really because not all non-americans don't buy in app purchases

#

While Apple's US market share is around 50%, its global market share is only around 35%.

ancient hornet
#

I'm sure Epic knows about those details already anyway, it's pretty "basic"

wet smelt
#

stolen from an article:

"An interesting parallel can be made to the Department of Justice's antitrust suit against Microsoft for its anti-competitive practices. The court defined the market as "operating systems software for IBM-compatible personal computers." Based on that definition, Microsoft's market share was above 90% and, at times, even higher than 95%. The court therefore determined that Microsoft held a monopoly position."

ancient hornet
#

the spending marketshare is a lot more important and meaningful than the install base spending

#

heck, the world is full of super low spec androids in poor countries, androids that could never play Fortnite anyway

wet smelt
#

and then there's china

#

assume 500 million people have speedy androids that could run fortnite

#

i'd put it around 200-300

#

but 500 for the sake of argument

ancient hornet
#

Fortnite doesn't release in China so not sure it matters

wet smelt
#

ah

ancient hornet
#

Fortnite is 2019’s top-grossing game despite making no money in China
Tencent is still waiting for the Chinese government’s permission to monetize the two-year-old battle royale shooter

#

such ties to CCP Epic has 😄

wet smelt
#

ccp is some party

#

"best party"
vs non-existent parties

#

but then there's the esports nations; japan, south korea, russia, half of europe, parts of SEA

ancient hornet
#

anyway, Apple has more than 50% of the App Store marketshare in spendings 😛

#

globally

wet smelt
#

yea

#

epic games hasn't said much else aside from "we're suing apple for antitrust"

ancient hornet
#

in the judge Zoom conf for the restraining order

#

it was mentioned how the Apple lawyers did as much as they could to completely avoid the monopoly topic/idea

#

they are scared of that notion no doubt

wet smelt
#

we could only hope that they're targeting apple for antitrust in the iOS market, which is totally not owned by apple
not the smartphone market as a whole

#

it was mentioned how the Apple lawyers did as much as they could to completely avoid the monopoly topic/idea
oh wut? dang nice one

#

well tbf, "50% of the app store"

ancient hornet
#

and that one seems to be something Apple will focus on?

#

showing that "people switch all the time"

wet smelt
#

well tbf, they own like the entire platform; although i agree they could add in other stores

#

judge got a point doe

#

but what does judge mean by:

How is the consumer benefiting at all?

light spruce
#

really wish there was a totally separate channel for "pointless legal discussions"

wet smelt
#

this is lounge

#

"off-topic discussions"

light spruce

That doesn't change my opinion.

wet smelt
#

well, i was warned of opinions in the lounge description lmfao

ancient hornet

really wish there was a totally separate channel for "pointless legal discussions"
look at it as an opportunity to get work done instead of procastinating in #lounge like us 😛

lucid walrus

I've seen the idea that Apple has a monopoly on revenue being floated... which is interesting

there are no connectors for the GPU

Tbh Nvidia always move just on the new consoles release

that isn't Nvidia is it ?

ancient ingot
#

ill stick with my 2070 for a while

fluid bloom

it looks like a 3080 will be something like a 3x-4x jump from my gtx 970

north torrent

That is an RTX 2070 itx length.

fluid bloom

I find that hard to believe

median wraith

well

a 970 vs 2070

isn't even a x2

at all

so maybe the 970 to 3080 is a x3

Who gets a 3080 though? Go big or go home.

median wraith

it just cost x3 times more than what I paid

north torrent

RTX 3090 life.

1400 euros for a GPU 🤔
