I'm currently working on adjusting my NPC spawning logic
It's complicated because the spawn rate needs to change based on time of day, but it also needs to be able to simulate what the npc's would have done if you're sleeping

yeah that's the part of it which is not complex
but it can't just constantly spawn the same amount of npc's, it needs randomness to it
and the npc's come with random tasks they can perform
so when you sleep and you skip say 12 hours of game time, it has to simulate the results of what the npc's spawned during that 12 hours would have done
well, I mean it doesn't have to do that.. but it's better when it does :P

yes it's a SDK helping make something crossplay compatible
I'd suggest using that instead of most of Steamworks even if your goal is only the PC platform
just so that your Steam/GoG/Epic/other users can play multiplayer together
