#

flight passenger waiting sim

thin storm
#

sure that such games somtimes go wild because people think its funny.

zinc matrix
#

viral concept yes

north torrent
#

I've never flown across the Atlantic though... maybe someday.

zinc matrix
#

you have never been flown*

north torrent
#

No.

zinc matrix
#

huh

north torrent
#

You are wrong.

zinc matrix
#

you are a pilot?

north torrent
#

I am an English teacher.

zinc matrix
#

and you have made a flight passenger waiting sim?

#

ihave been flown to croatia

north torrent
#

I would mark you wrong on a test if you wrote it like that.

zinc matrix
#

oh i mean i was been flown

north torrent
#

Just making it worse now.

zinc matrix

thin storm
#

I smell beef. lol I bought a steak at store earlier and didnt look at the price. I looked after it on the price list. it costs me 8 bucks.

north torrent
#

Flying kind of sucks.

#

I guess depending on the size of the steak that could be a really good bargain or a really huge rip off.

thin storm
#

200g for 8 bucks

#

like one steak normal sized

north torrent
#

I was a bacon once.

zinc matrix

@north torrent i would not have eat you

I have 16 small humans I have to look after every day.

zinc matrix

Luckily I can send them home at 3:55 in the afternoon.

Reminds me of an age old saying

If in doubt, make an endless runner

tulip orbit

pearl elk
#

oh I dont even write that anymore cuz its a company design pillar, we use it on all our products ๐Ÿ˜›

#

Its all about persistence and connecting with your customer, you really want them tapping their phone on the toilet to get freebies

#

We even have the lick a toilet phone challenge

tulip orbit
#

๐Ÿคจ

#

also, why is my player health an integer?

pearl elk
#

because of the deadlights

#

0.003 health remaining... I got this

#

999.99999 health remaining... I should town portal and dump my inventory just incase

tulip orbit
#

either I change it to a float, or cast to float to get the percent for health bar

pearl elk
#

Technically not a float float though cuz normalized

#

Its a unit vector

tulip orbit
#

?

pearl elk
#

because its between 0 and 1 you can account for the position of the floating point as not to lose precision

tulip orbit
#

the percent? I'm still confused.

pearl elk
#

its not a percent its a decimal

tulip orbit
#

oh. ue is calling it a percent :p

pearl elk
#

I prefer to multiply rather than divide too ๐Ÿ™‚

zinc matrix
#

I PREFERMULTIPLE TOO

#

@pearl elk

#

@tulip orbit Never.. make MmO...

#

bad for ur health

pearl elk
#

Issue can be with using a percentage like that if you try to normalize a big number like a bosses max health

#

you'll have the same size bar and it'll move slowly, you'd probably want multiple bars

#

have like acouple of yellows then a red

zinc matrix
#

EAEAE

tulip orbit
#

if the bar is moving slowly, need to hit it harder

pearl elk

pearl elk
#

I think its just alittle more professional than numbers

tulip orbit
#

I had horizontal bars before, but it didnt look that great

pearl elk
#

so you did vertical orb bar thingos?

pearl elk
#

Yup thats very diablo alright

tulip orbit
#

it kinda bugs me doing such a close visual style to diablo, but I couldnt find good looking kits that werent based on diablo..

#

atleast, ones that fit my game.

pearl elk

Theres worse games to be copying UIs from ๐Ÿ™‚

this ones pretty cool ๐Ÿ™‚

#

@zinc matrix in how to lose weight discord

pearl elk
#

Im all about the photofeelism

zinc matrix
#

yes

fathom wadi
#

@zinc matrix you can do photorealism in VR right now. You just need the processing to back it up. Dont forget that we are using 2k screens with 2k processing just to normalise home use. But industry has way better. Military even more so. What we see now in the home is pathetic, drip-fed, marketable VR that took 3 years to normalise. Now it has, it's time to move forward in leaps and bounds. Get the 8K screen ready. Get the next gen dedicated VR GPU. Get the immersion back for those who are now normalised to the experience.

#

btw... I've been working with control rig and it's potentially awesome. It needs a few more interfaces/entry points to manage controlling it programmatically speaking, but you can work around those for now. Once the workflow is cleaned up, more control units are added and some optimisation is done, I see no reason to be animating externally for the broke indie dev.

pearl elk
#

Part of the appeal of the Marketplace for me is buying anims which work with the Epic skeleton, I usually only need to touch up existing animations rather than make new ones

fathom wadi
#

Im not a particular fan of that approach. I used to prefer it, not anymore. There is too much time spent with limitation, alterations, modifications and other "fications". Like when I use Blender and have to put up with Mr Mannequin, which is great when it works, and is a pain when it doesn't. So you add more layers of crap onto it. Being free to just move shit around. That appeals to me. Even if it means 6 hours of timeline work in sequencer

#

well thats where standalones come in. They are going to pick up the pace. Thats why I mentioned dedicated VR gpu. It's like the start of the console race again

#

but it does mean more dripfeeding. Thats capitalism for yer

pearl elk
#

Wouldnt you have 2 dedicated VR GPUs?

fathom wadi
#

no. Just have one render an offset whilst it's at it

pearl elk
#

sounds slow

fathom wadi
#

its about fast enough tho. Quest has its issues. But its good enough for what sells on that platform

pearl elk
#

Still not seeing people giving up their 4K LEDs for it

#

I guess thats why its more of an amusement ride rather than a game you play at home on your own rig

fathom wadi
#

I don't think I'll be happy until im at 16k per eye like Carmack said. I mean, chances are he has experienced that and he stated it should be the standard now if we could.

pearl elk
#

Carmack wears lenses bigger than Gear VR every day though ๐Ÿ™‚

fathom wadi
#

lol

#

I dont blame him for wanting to duck out of the VR scene now though. If its in drip feed mode, there is no reason for him to stay. May as well move to AI and keep pushing forward

pearl elk
#

Its possible VR and AI will overlap, look at DLSS, maybe theres value in being able to upscale for VR applications

#

theres also adaptive resolution, combined with foveal rendering. You can optimise pretty far and with newer wifi/bluetooth you can get better interface speeds but

#

its still the same VR experience and if the price doesnt get lower, if theres still alot of friction

#

look at the smart phone for example, the UIs are pretty similar now but VR platform has so many different controllers just setting them all in UE4 takes a week ๐Ÿ˜›

dim ruin
#

I fucking hate Dell PCs and I also hate Windows 10 Updates. Rant over

fathom wadi
#

I once had windows update start whilst I was compiling. I've never liked it since. I didn't even have it set to auto update. It just did it. Which then prompted me to switch auto-updates on so I could manage the time they happen.

dim ruin
#

thats what pisses me off about windows 10 updates. My personal PC is fine but by profession I'm a system/network/database admin for a large retailer and our IT head moved our stores all over to Dell hardware and windows 10. Its been a fucking nightmare. we use system center for most configuration and even between that and policies we just can't get these fucking updates under control

#

Regarding Dell, I love their server blades but their PCs are dogshit. Cheapest hardware I've ever seen

fathom wadi
#

the whole network sharing of updates seemed like a nice idea at the time until it drops your network speeds on two pc's or more also. Im guessing it needs a decent setup that I dont have in the home :/

dim ruin
#

we have optiplex 3050s and 3070s in stores and even the damn usb ports are always dying. the headers fry in under a year in most cases it seems

#

but I absolutely love the blades we run at head office

fathom wadi
#

something I never trusted about contract network computers. What incentive is there for them to actually work? I mean, they make a business out of hiring the computers, and fixing them when hardware fails (because usual recourse is just send it back). Worked at a place with a company called Trust Computers once. Fuck that. Never trust them in my experience :p

I decided I am going to send my students to Mars.

mossy nexus
#

Mars bar factory?

north torrent
#

No, the planet.

#

The red one.

#

Next to Earth.

mossy nexus
#

Hmm. It's actually mainly brown coloured. Venus on the other hand is probably closer to red due to the burning sulphur etc

north torrent
mossy nexus
#

it would be something to write home about, that's for sure

north torrent
#

No corona-virus on Mars.

#

Well, the final week of the project really is about writing letters between Earth and Mars.

mossy nexus
#

Mail delivery would be problematic.

zinc matrix
#

@mossy nexus you dont like gays?

north torrent
#

Well, I am an English teacher. I am more worried about their grammar than how they manage to send the letters.

sage tendon
#

What do you need grammer for if none reads it

#

We dont need no education

mossy nexus
#

so that means you do, that means you need education ๐Ÿ˜„

#

go on say it again.. ๐Ÿ™‚

north torrent
#

The first week is about Organizations. So I am setting the class up into 5 different corporations.

Each corporation specializes in one thing, atmosphere, water, plants, animals, and homes. They will have to make plans on how to make Mars livable for 1,000 people.

The second week is about Ecosystems and how we are going to terraform Mars.

The third week is about communication. We will start with communication between Earth and Mars. Half the students are going to be left on Earth and they have to communicate with each other.

sage tendon
#

@zinc matrix got the reference ๐Ÿ˜…

mossy nexus
#

so did I, but I was being pedantic ๐Ÿ˜„

#

Surely communication should be first, as it's probably more important. Otherwise for 3 weeks half your class can't talk to the other half?

zinc matrix
#

make them learn what veganism is

north torrent
#

Well, that's not the way that the Units are taught, so I just have to go with the order I'm told.

The Mars stuff is all my idea, but I have to follow the Units from the book, which go Organizations, Ecosystems, and Communication.

#

Though we probably won't actually send any students into space until the 3rd week anyways.

mossy nexus
#

Give them time to prepare. Good idea

north torrent
#

The first week we will form our corporations and the second week we will be building our ships to transport what we need.

mossy nexus
#

Big ships, I'd imagine.

#

Maybe take 3D printers with them to build things

north torrent
#

Depends on the size of the paper I give them, and whether or not they try to bring all the water needed with them...

mossy nexus
#

Hmm, they might burn up on entry.

north torrent
#

Mars doesn't have enough atmosphere.

mossy nexus
#

That's why there are never any good parties there

north torrent
#

Well... unless they send stuff first to produce an atmosphere, forget to calculate in the fact that they just added an atmosphere, and then kill themselves...

mossy nexus
#

Problems problems lol

north torrent
#

I'm also going to have the nonverbally communicate with aliens once they get to Mars.

#

Have them decide if they want to be peaceful or shoot the aliens.

mossy nexus
#

What if the aliens have no eyes or ears?

north torrent
#

They will, because I will make them.

#

What doesn't make him mad?

#

He is so insecure almost everything sets him off.

mossy nexus
#

Oh God!

north torrent
#

Maybe I'll send a black man with the Chinese students.

#

Hmmm... now I'm debating on making an alien team...

mossy nexus
#

Black Chinese students ideally

north torrent
#

My class has no diversity. They are all ethnically Chinese.

mossy nexus
#

Ah. Shame.

north torrent
#

My old school had one white student.

mossy nexus
#

China should consider encouraging diversification to just to really annoy Trump

north torrent
#

We have black teachers.

#

Shanghai is rather diverse, just not the children.

Non-Chinese children usually end up in International Schools. I don't think they can go to the regular school without being a citizen.

#

And the chances of a white or black person being a citizen of China is very rare.

mossy nexus
#

I can imagine.

north torrent
#

If you don't at least have a grandparent from China then I don't know any possible way to become a citizen.

#

But I guess you don't need a passport on Mars.

tulip orbit

dim ruin
#

I feel very fortunate that I've been working from home since 2017. The city where the head office of the company I work for is in the hardest hit city in Canada by COVID-19 and I used public transit when I lived there so I'm sure things wouldn't have gone very well for me if I was still stuck there

north torrent
#

The hardest hit city in Canadia is still probably better than the least hardest hit city in your southern neighbors...

#

But here we have gone through the whole cycle of corona-virus and haven't had any new outbreaks in ages.

They are still being very careful and strict about stuff, and there are about 8 different plans for any possible scenario if a child at school comes down with corona-virus.

So I'm really not worried about that. It is just physically a big change to go from being lazy all day for 3 months to now being on my feet most of the day chasing around small humans.

dim ruin
#

Definitely possible. The U.S. is a complete shitshow right now

#

I'm uncomfortable even being within a few hours driving distance of the Canada/U.S. border right now lmao

But right now... sigh... I just don't get it...

dim ruin

#

although I do worry about what may happen with new COVID-19 infection rates after these massive protests/riots

north torrent
#

But what do you think the numbers will be like 10 days from now? When all those people out in large gatherings, shoulder to shoulder where there is no room to stand without touching, with people shouting their spit everywhere...

Every place I've found so far is only able to be serviced by either satellite internet service or by radio internet service. Both are terrible and I wouldn't be able to do my work from home

#

omg, I can't imagine trying to download a new UE4 version over radio internet haha

mossy nexus

north torrent
#

Since the 2008 recession in the US, the only economic recovery has been in the major cities. All the rural areas were hit with the job losses and never recovered even one little bit.

The statistics say that the US eventually recovered, but that isn't true for any small cities and towns.

Everyone is being forced into the major cities with overpriced real estate in order to have an opportunity at a decent paying job.

The US economy was total shit before corona-virus and the virus just made the problems visible.

dim ruin
#

the US economy was artificially inflated. I warned many people and no one listened. Trump takes his economic advice from a "board" of his billionaire friends who advise him what they feel would boost the stock market. Every economic decision involving the US market by him has been based on their word lol

#

it was pretty obvious what was going to happen for anyone that was paying attention

#

I had professional account managers telling me I'm wrong and the market is strong... I'm like yeah, well make sure you buy real deep then! lol

north torrent

It is all fake.

is that Poland?

#

Ah! Good guess

zinc matrix
#

no its indonesia

#

why you dont know this mighty flag?

tough sierra
#

You all can't possibly tell me.

#

That this doesn't look cool as fuck ๐Ÿ˜›

#

Hell this is why I use custom FlatBuffer and FlatFlaggedBuffer templated containers, to avoid dynamic memory as much as possible.

#

This looks way cooler than the conventional approach which would not even get 100th of the units on screen.

#

This doesn't just allow one to multithread in the conventional sense where you have one thread per task, that's actually not ideal when your dealing with large object counts, what you want to do instead is multithread a single task, and get it done a lot quicker. Since everything's on a linear buffer this is super easy to do and predict for. Should have less mutexes at that to. We badly need an API for this stuff.

soft night
#

tough sierra

Should allow for less useless data, and avoid copied data.

The heck is that?

soft night

Yeah, though that won't be out for a long time.

soft night

all seems to be going this ECS thing approach

Now I need to find documentation on this.

Google's not bringing up anything on ue4 implementing their own ECS for the engine.

what you think chaos is doing?

tough sierra
#

I thought we were still using Physicx

#

Says destruction for chaos is supported, i take it then that one has to manually enable chaos to test this stuff.

#

Aaaaand there might be a bunch of custom API stuff no clue.

#

Nothing mentioned about ECS though.

#

A physics engine wouldn't really want something like that internally, it'd need something a bit more custom to really squeeze out that extra bang per buck.

#

We could really use something like dots for ue4.

#

The video i've seen showcasing how to get started with it, made it seem super easy to get a scene up with 100k MOVING sprites ONSCREEN.

#

And that barely took any time at all.

dim ruin
#

whats this NativeArray<T> shit? Is that something Unity added for ECS?

tough sierra
#

It is.

#

@dim ruin It's supposed to be a perfectly flat buffer, you know, like how you can do in C but normally not so well in C#.

#

I think it's outside GC or some other stuff but it's highly recommended to be used with ECS when dealing with plain data.

dim ruin
#

Yeah, you can alloc unmanaged memory which gc cannot touch. Only catches are you have to perform your own memory alignment and cleanup.

tough sierra
#

That's really a catch? ๐Ÿ˜›

dim ruin
#

You can do some fun stuff with it though;)

#

You can do lots of dangerous fun high perf stuff with it.

tough sierra
#

I'm used to it in the C world i'd hardly call it dangerous.

#

But i usually deal with flat non dynamic buffers.

dim ruin
#

Its dangerous in managed stack lol easy to break shit if you don't know what you're doing.

tough sierra
#

There any upsides to using C# aside from memory management? Seems it usually get s in the way at least for engine dev or deving in games which need the extra performance.

#

Thank god for native array though

dim ruin
#

Iteration times are stupid fast, code base is smaller and more readable, the syntax is more consistent, and it doesn't feel like you're writing code in the stone age.

#

C# all the way, all day

tough sierra
#

I'm not sure about iteration time but to be fair i've not given it a solid try.

dim ruin
#

100% guarantee its faster iteration times than c or c++

tough sierra
#

Even considering templates and unique_ptr and other C++17 features?

#

Though to be honest, I don't touch OOP much.

#

I rather dispose it for engine work or game dev, maybe not so much for desktop app dev though.

dim ruin
#

And actually, you might be surprised by this but it will most likely outperform most native code and has benchmarks to back that up. AOT and JIT compilers are WAY better at optimizing that what most native devs are. To make native code run that fast, you REALLY need to know your shit when it comes to optimizations and compiler options

tough sierra
#

Which i kinda do.

#

But that's part of my domain.

dim ruin
#

.NET core will kick the shit out of anything most devs will do. I mean exceptionally fast

tough sierra
#

Without a doubt, most programmers are too into OOP stuff and it's horrible for performance.

#

And are way into using over the top abstractions where it's not necessary.

dim ruin
#

Big part is not knowing how to correctly optimize compiler options

#

Have you heard of the game engine Xenko?

tough sierra
#

Testing, profiling, throwing on O3, profiling again, avoiding dynamic memory as much as possible, avoiding indirection as much as possible. Helping the compiler know your intentions properly.

#

Honestly no it sounds interesting.

dim ruin
#

Its .net based, not even on .net core. And it outperforms UE4s rendering lol

tough sierra
#

Honestly i've never given just the raw rendering bit a solid try.

#

It's a bit annoying to get passed the UObjects.

#

I've tried Unigine and it's pretty light weight compared.

dim ruin
#

(Xenko) Its the fastest benchmarked rendering for game engines so far. Sadly, the main dev left for Unity. Hence why Unity has so much low level stuff being added to compliment ECS and burst now

tough sierra
#

Which is surprisingly impressive.

#

C++ access is super nice and all but it won't mean anything without sufficient low level access.

#

Though i guess i could just try Ogre3D... I think it's iteration 2.1 now.

#

Where they supposedly went more into the DOD side of things.

dim ruin
#

I love UE4, don't get me wrong... but what a gigantic convoluted code base

tough sierra
#

Personally i attribute that to design, and over reliance on blueprints.

dim ruin
#

I've spent way more time combing over engine source than I care to disclose and omg it gets ugly in UE4

tough sierra
#

It makes a boss level editor though, honestly maybe that's what we mostly need, a really well maintained rendering and level editor, at least for those of us that need to peel back abstractions.

dim ruin
#

and I'm sorry for anyone's feelings hurt by this, but UE4's approach to reflection is dogshit. It took them almost 20 years to implement TMap replication because its that fucked up

#

but at the end of the day, the rendering pipeline is top notch and I like their material system lol

tough sierra
#

The material system is dope yeah.

#

I don't like programming shaders >.<

#

Though personally am trying to learn vulkan from scratch and maybe get a solid foundation on 3D graphics programming.

dim ruin
#

I don't mind opengl shaders (sort of), I like the runtime aspect

#

I haven't done anything with vulkan but spir-v is a nice idea

tough sierra
#

It's just that till recently never found an easy way to learn the stuff is all, doesn't seem horrible.

dim ruin
#

opengl's extensions can be a real pain in the ass though

tough sierra
#

From what i'm reading and watching it seems to give an insane amount of control over the hardware, which personally I like as a low level programmer.

dim ruin
#

yeah same with dx 12. all about low level fence control etc

tough sierra
#

I suspect it's even lower level than that but not the experience to declare such, but it's advertised as such.

dim ruin
#

brb I'm being demanded to make strawberry sundaes lol

tough sierra
#

Something about manual management of ques and buffers.

#

Have fun o/

tough sierra
#

Ok this makes sense.

#

I discovered something similar in python, installing and testing out libs is sooooo fucking fast... At least unless you are following a tutorial that's out of date but in python and duck typed langs in general it's hard to know the args of functions and such.

#

So it seems harder to use for larger projects. C# though i've never fully given a fair handshake. Java i hated for being too forced into objects for everything.

#

The OOP nature of a java built game engine I was helping work on for someone's game project had some issues related to the forced in OOP. He had to pass a "Game" reference everywhere because he needed some way to reach back into global scope.

#

Which is sometimes, actually nearly always needed in engine dev.

#

Maybe i need to give it a full dive though.

#

I'm pointing this all out because I want to quickly experience the best possible pros of using C# for testing, in a way that gets me over the previous bad taste in my mouth from other langs, especially as far as productivity cause i found it pretty lacking in most other places.

#

I've mostly tried java, typescript, crystal, bit of python, a bunch of other stuff I can't remember. I would say typescript was the best so far but it had no macros or templates and no way to create nice flat buffers of objects. Though the style was nice. So i've mostly stuck with low level langs for the past 8 years.

dim ruin
#

c# is OOP-oriented too but its by far the most powerful of all managed languages. It exposes quite a bit of low level access and native interop options if you choose to use it, its just not the standard route. You typically only see it really used in game/graphics stuff. The option is definitely there though. .NET Core has made performance and low-level a high priority (finally) too which is a game changer

#

Development times are definitely faster though. The syntax is clearly c/c++-based so it will be familiar to you and easy to pick up but the fast dev times I feel come from the robust framework that comes out of the box and the syntax is definitely stream-lined and very consistent

tough sierra
#

So basically libraries.

dim ruin
#

I'm actually really excited to see the first real commercial game engine attempt to come from modern .NET Core

tough sierra
#

Which is still a very strong and valid reason.

dim ruin
#

yea the libs aspect helps a lot. Its all out of the box so its fast to just jump in and go

#

I never liked Java much either personally and I love c#

tough sierra
#

Had that experience with processing and openFrameworks for 2D stuff.

#

That good strong set of libs work really well in getting a prototype done, and you might be lucky enough to not need to replace them with anything custom later on.

#

Messing about web servers or web scraping or 3D engines, yeah it's friggin painful to do that in C++ with all the cross platform hell that makes it take forever to install libs, with pages and pages of instructions to read and guesswork on the dependencies.

dim ruin
#

ugh I can't imagine c++ for web. god that would be painful

tough sierra
#

I've tried.

#

Honestly.

dim ruin
#

lol

tough sierra
#

I found that node.js with a C++ backend makes for a perfect combo for a game server, if you use something like p5.js for client side graphics and make your custom engine heavy into using indexes for stuff like physics bodies.

#

But fully C++...... Na

#

Best i found for socket programming in C++ often disregarded dealing with HTTP connections in such a way that web browsers might not be able to connect (i'm not sure)

#

Then again.

#

I'm not that great with web technologies.

#

And don't fully understand the protocells used.

dim ruin
#

my networking weakness is god damned NAT traversal. I dream of the day when IPv6 is fully accepted and commonplace

tough sierra
#

I somewhat dread that but after the growing pains maybe not so much.

#

A lot of libs don't play nice with IPv6

#

sdl_net being one.

dim ruin
#

people in general are so paranoid of it. They have no idea just how much metadata is aggregated from your system/browser already. IPv6 should be the least of their concern lol

#

Even a browser's font cache is used in "fingerprinting" a system to the point that when combined with other metadata collected via browser, some sites are able to maintain user sessions without cookies! lol thats kinda wild

tough sierra
#

You mean like gpu or other hardware data.

#

It'd be less a problem if you could easily reset your ip every time you reset the modem, which my old isp let me do.

dim ruin
#

I don't recall if a browser can get any info off gpu, probably though, some can render with it. But definitely other hardware info is available to the browsers environment

tough sierra
#

I heard about the gpu one years ago.

#

Ever since html5 I think.

#

That's hearsay though.

#

A big IP range would make it harder for bots to find you.

dim ruin
#

people are just paranoid of anything they don't understand these days

tough sierra
#

I um, may have done a port scan test, i think it takes less than 100 scans to find any random IP with an open port.

dim ruin
#

IPv6 is fine (and important)

tough sierra
#

The paranoia I think is somew3hat justified.

dim ruin
#

We should be having an open discussion or dialing at least form a professional's perspective.

#

dim ruin
#

tough sierra
#

Wasn't looking for anything specific more was testing a port scanner + ip generator combo to see how fast it'd take to gather IPs with open ports. Found one for a printer one time I think. Dropped it forever ago though. Made me realize that any ports you have open, are always vuln.

dim ruin
#

originally intended for server management etc

tough sierra
#

I got scanned a few times personally for... I think it was iss.

#

More than a few.

dim ruin
#

eternal blue, eternal sunshine, wannacry all use SMB

tough sierra
#

Even caught strange behavior on some servers i put up, regardless of the random port I picked.

dim ruin
#

they scan the internet at random IPs testing SMB ports for vulnerabililty and then slam it

tough sierra
#

Oh wow so it's probably an old exploit.

#

Sounds like a honey pot nowadays.

dim ruin
#

its patched now but lots of systems still haven't applied it

#

a few years ago our corporate network got infiltrated by a monero mining bot network that used part of that as its way in. was some wild shit. definitely the most advanced I have ever seen. Was impressive really.
It used the SMB exploit to get in, then it fucking patched it itself so no other exploits would interrupt it LOL

#

It wasn't a destructive exploit thankfully, or else we would have been fucked. It was in there for a few months before I found it

tough sierra
#

Smart, you don't want competition.

#

The idea of malware fighting each other is pretty funny.

#

I find security fun to study but i've avoided sinking massive time into it, I know that it won't pay for itself unless I actually go ham into that kind of career, but then again, maybe engine dev won't pan out for me either.

dim ruin
#

it even used steganography embedded into a taylor swift image to perform its own version check. There was sooo much we found in this thing, it was really impressive

tough sierra
#

Holy wow.

#

Speaking of fun, i'd avoid touching wav files for a while.

#

Was informed a while ago that they allow for custom codecs which have a few very nasty vulns in them.

#

Can even be patched to where one doesn't hear a difference in the audio quality.

That one friggin surprised the hell out of me.

What's the best software for creating documentation in for designers? Including screenshots and text. You can do it in word, but sometimes it's finicky. For example, I create a class, and they need to go in and create child classes and put in all the specific stuff to each child class, assign the skeletal meshes, materials, animations, set variables and configure each one. I'd like to make a quick little document that they can refer to so that they know what they need to set on each one and where everything is. I was just wondering if there was anything out there better than word for doing that.

dim ruin
#

powerpoint

#

visio maybe? not sure about that one, I don't use it

tough sierra
#

There's doc gens.

#

I bet you could use that and write in your own notes as well.

#

Processing and openframeworks uses html pages.

#

Which honestly maybe that's how I should do mine.

#

I've been meaning to organize documentation, seems pretty fun.

static cosmos
#

what's doc gens?

tough sierra
#

I've seen software that creates documentation based off your code, it'll include your comments and such.

#

Makes a nice GUI thing for it all.

#

doxgen maybe?

static cosmos
#

Ah, I see. Doxygen seems to be the name

tough sierra
#

Really that should be "mostly" sufficient so long as you properly write your code out to be easily readable.

fathom wadi
#

doxgen is nice but you are essentially writing your docs as you comment, so its not doing anything you didn't do yourself anyway :p

tough sierra
#

Yup that's the one.

#

Correct.

static cosmos
#

Might not help me unless I convert this to C++ I took over this project part way through and it's already done in blueprint.

fathom wadi
#

I saw a blueprint doc gen once. Didn't see how far it progressed but that was a good idea

tough sierra
#

We could use something like that yeah, that stuff is a mess to organize.

#

How goes life?

dim ruin
#

Oh I thought you mean you wanted to make like, a step by step guide lol yeah don't use powerpoint for code docs

static cosmos
#

Yes I do want to make a step by step guide.

#

mostly. I just want to detail all the various variables they need to fill out as well as a couple functions that might have to override depending on the class (some classes use a looping animation, some don't, so if they create one without it, they need to just override the function that would set the animation)

#

I could turn that into a bool that they could tag actually

#

I might do that.

tough sierra
#

That's where you'd want tutorials and examples of how to use stuff like what processing has.

#

Like in that link.

static cosmos
#

Thanks, I'll look into that one.

tough sierra
#

Just for ideas i'm not sure that's the best.

#

As a beginner i found this very helpful even though others might see it as hand holdy.

static cosmos
#

It mostly will be a text document, but there will probably be some screenshots, and I didn't really like the way you put screenshots in word, so I wondered if there might be a better program for putting those together. I don't think powerpoint is right either. looking up stuff in PP is a bit annoying.

tough sierra
#

I'd use an html doc if you got the patience for it then.

#

You could even use hyperlinks and such.

#

Might take a while to make it look pretty.

static cosmos
#

Yeah that might be more effort than this needs, but I'll add it to the list of maybes ๐Ÿ˜‰

What is the point they stop fighting back and start trying to save their own lives through change? Revolution always came about through a complete lack of options for a government other than mass genocide of it's own people, and that would get evreyone else attacking them, bad for business. Won't happen. But send a few cops to bust some skulls first seems to be enough to stop most revolutions. At some point the tide will break. any day is a good day to die??

tough sierra
#

Most my family is older than me, i'd rather them go first, me being this young, they'd be torn apart especially ma. Might even potentially cause another death.

pearl elk
#

A day without battle risks all of our souls

sage tendon
#

after a few deaths, that feeling will dissapear

tough sierra
#

Morality of that aside, (not sure i'd feel the same now) there was for sure a better response to the situation once fear of death was removed from that moment.

#

Or at least lessoned.

sage tendon
#

death should be celebrated not mourned

pearl elk
#

so should first blood

tough sierra
#

Hmm you all got me questioning my stance on it though thank you ^-^

sage tendon
#

I've had 2 deaths in my family in March, and another is just around the corner

#

mourning sucks and doesnt do any good

tough sierra
#

Maybe it shouldn't be avoided, while they are still alive though, you should give them good moments. At least that's what the person would want.

sage tendon
#

celebrate life, the momories, share them, and keep them close to the hearth, but dont be sad because there is nothing to be changed

tough sierra
#

I try to deal with it by attempting to remind myself to "honor their memory". That's about all anyone can do.

sage tendon
#

memories is what gives value to life

#

it all comes down to those in the end

tough sierra
#

Gives a legacy which is passed down.

sage tendon
#

aye

pearl elk
#

Oh that sucks, I hope they lived long lives

sage tendon
#

my aunt was around 50 (cancer), my grandfather was 86 (old age), and my grandmother (acute leukemia) 82,

YOUr battle never ends..

#

attak enemy

tough sierra
#

Have work to go to, hope you all take care. Am just a former type A personality that has grown toward being type C and am really lost on what's the best response to life situations.

sage tendon
#

breath, continue with life

#

thats it

#

nothing else you can do

pearl elk
#

pardon the french but fuck cancer

tough sierra
#

Optimizing one's own decisions does go a long way.

sage tendon
#

if you're emotional, never make choices

pearl elk
#

Too many lives cut short by that shit

sage tendon
#

@pearl elk it does seem getting worse

tough sierra
#

I'm not really into anima (my pic might say otherwise but that's actually a character based off a game series) one exception however is a work called "parasyte maxum" you all might be interested in. Has a very interesting story where it pins the perspective of humanity against that of animals, what if one of them ended up more intelligent but without as many emotions kind of thing.

#

And posed a threat.

sage tendon
#

I think that animals can be over emotional just as humans, look for example at elephants

#

they can mourn a death for years

tough sierra
#

Some yeah.

pearl elk
#

Yeah I hope it will get better over time now we have removed many of the causes. Unfortunately people in their 50s and older got it bad cuz smoking was allowed inside for the longest time

sage tendon
#

I'm a smoker for 23 years now ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

zinc matrix
#

never case honor remco

#

your smoker for my whole lifetime

sage tendon
#

1 pack went from 6.50 to 7.70 overnight ๐Ÿ˜

zinc matrix
#

total COPE

pearl elk
#

Im an ex-smoker, I smoked for umm maybe 10 years

sage tendon
#

how did you quit?

pearl elk
#

I just said fuck it, this tastes like shit

zinc matrix
#

he smoke different things now

#

muhahaha

sage tendon
#

problem is, i love the smell and taste of smoke

#

i know, im weird at that

#

i tried detox 2 times, didn't help at all

tough sierra
#

Cya all o/

pearl elk
#

Catcha

sage tendon
#

also 1 social worker, but that was as helpful as a kid saying "smoking is bad for you"

#

like i didnt know already

pearl elk
#

You should see the price of smokes here its insane, a carton of 40s costs like almost $300

sage tendon
#

its getting out of hand here too

#

but finance is not a strong motivator to stop as its a external one

pearl elk
#

Its because of the strain it causes on the public healthcare system, least thats why they said they were doing it.

zinc matrix
#

muhaha remko

sage tendon
#

I'm in doubt to have me tested on the gene of addiction

zinc matrix
#

muuhu

pearl elk
#

I did get sick of being shoved off to the side, finding a place to smoke was tricky, you were out in the cold so I get less flus

sage tendon
#

That was a problem at first, until I noticed how it reduces stress by leaving the workplace every hour ๐Ÿ˜„

#

same at home

#

escaping wife and kids ๐Ÿ˜›

pearl elk
#

Yeah I didnt quit while I was working, I took the opportunity to do it between jobs cuz I knew how snappy I would be for awhile

sage tendon
#

Someone: Hey Mons, whats up?
Mons: Do you have a death wish?

pearl elk
#

lol my temper can be bad at the best of times

sage tendon
#

I found some medication that numbs the neurons in the brain so that you cant get the "Yes! this is the spot" feeling when you smoke (removing the "awards" of smoking)

#

only experimantel and heathcare doesnt pay for it

pearl elk
#

Yeah I never used patches or medication, I have seen that work for some

#

there is the old cigarette butts in water trick

sage tendon
#

what? how does that work?

pearl elk
#

what you do is make an ashtray out of an old jar, then when you get a few in there you fill it with water and put the lid on the jar. Then whenever you feel like a smoke you open the jar and sniff

sage tendon
#

then would just make you smell the ashes??

#

oh i see

#

changing the association

pearl elk
#

yup putrid smell vs reward for thinking about it

sage tendon
#

Not sure, I worked some time ago for a pharmaceutical company, where one of the lung specialists told me about it after she found out I'm a heavy smoker

#

looks like it yes

#
Varenicline is a prescription medication that can help reduce cravings for tobacco and control nicotine withdrawal symptoms. It also blocks nicotine receptors in your brain, which decreases the pleasurable effects of smoking. It takes several days for varenicline to reach effective levels in the blood.
#

Bupropion this one

#

she told me about Bupropion

#

Bupropion, sold under the brand names Wellbutrin and Zyban among others, is a medication primarily used to treat major depressive disorder and to support stopping smoking. It is a moderately effective antidepressant on its own, but it is also used as an add-on medication in ca...

#
Bupropion is prescribed as an aid for smoking cessation.[32][33] Bupropion reduces the severity of nicotine cravings and withdrawal symptoms.[34] The effectiveness of bupropion for maintaining abstinence from smoking decreases over time, with 20% of persons remaining abstinent from smoking at one year.[35] Bupropion increases the likelihood of quitting smoking by approximately 1.6 fold.[36][needs update] The effectiveness of bupropion is comparable to nicotine replacement therapy, but less effective than varenicline.[34]```
#

So, from that I get that varenicline is better aimed at smokers than bupropion

tulip orbit
#

I lasted 3 weeks

sage tendon
#

longest I managed was 7 hours

tulip orbit
#

I need to quit again

pearl elk
#

Wish they would legalise weed here so I wouldnt get in trouble when I drive stoned ๐Ÿ˜›

sage tendon
#

even when legalised, you shouldnt drive stoned

tulip orbit
#

its legal here, still cant drive stoned.

sage tendon
#

you can, but when you get cought... ๐Ÿ˜„

pearl elk
#

olympic comittee considers weed performance enhancing, Id trust them over the revenue raisers

tulip orbit
#

counts as under the influence

sage tendon
#

yes but only when cought ๐Ÿ˜„

pearl elk
#

Its not illegal here just decriminalised, you cant sell it and yeah operating a car stoned gets you in big trouble

#

infact its the same offense as driving while methed up

#

not sure how they figure that one

sage tendon
#

none users always think they have all the awnsers

#

someone who gets stoned for the first time must get the same high as a long-term user

pearl elk
#

Infact that reminds me of that recent post by SA police, they said and I quote

#

please wait 24hrs after doing meth before you drive

#

even though doing meth is illegal lol

sage tendon
#

well, here in the netherlands, some cities have to many coffeeshops while others have none

#

those that have none, have illegal sellers (from their house)

#

and the police knowns about them, but they dont do anything about it

#

as it makes the scene invisible

#

better to regulate and give actual helpful info than just bashing everyones head in

#

forcing it to get on the street, giving more problems

pearl elk
#

exactly, if we worked together we'd get alot further as we can reach a middle ground which works for everyone

sage tendon
#

a friend of mine is a seller like that, last weekend people broke in to his house

#

steeling all the weed and money

#

he hesitated the call the police

#

but once he did and they told him they already knew a very long time

#

they were actually very helpful

pearl elk
#

Proper police are good, they are after real criminals, the career kind

sage tendon
#

aye

#

dont fight symptoms, get the disease

#

(people love to get high, all living creatures do.. so... dont fight nature, its alost battle from the start)

pearl elk
#

Trying some ganja should be standard training for police hehe

sage tendon
#

a big blunt is a great way to simulate sitatuons while "being extremely tired" ๐Ÿ˜›

pearl elk
#

In my experience alcohol is the bad one, kinda wish we had that age limit of 21 too sometimes

austere garden
#

hey guys i know is not quite the place. but does anyone got a thermaltake lvl 20 XT? and have you flown with it? did you had any airline issues?

sage tendon
#

uff, some time ago we had a trend of coma drinkers

#

12 year olds drinking themself into a coma

pearl elk
#

amazing how young some people start

sage tendon
#

its our modern time that makes it strange, I believe

#

people used to live up to 30-40 years old, you were a senior at that age

#

if middle age is 20, then 12 is adult ๐Ÿ˜›

#

but since we halted physical evolution, its shifted to mental evolution (wisdom, knowledge, philosophy etc)

#

we're in a very weird era

sage tendon
#

the wierdest part of this

#

is how its being flown over to europe

#

even in the netherlands, we're suddenly all racist, people going to protest with 1000's of people

#

while we're still in a lockdown for corona

#

like... where did the intelligence go?

#

The biggest point, in my country, we have like no racism... Its in the constition, many laws, and frankly, if its here, is very - very invisible

#

created a binary group, saying whites are out killing non-whites

#

and poof, shit started to roll

#

hes most known for the group "Kick out Zwarte Piet

#

He's the one who made it a racist party, calling them black faces, not reading anything about the lore or whatever

#

Then we have this piece of Art, a "politician" that follows Jerry Airfryer without any fact checking. For example, a year ago some bloke pulled a "Suicide by Police" (with succes). This woman started to tell in the goverment that black people are now afraid of just getting shot due to this incident (she didnt even check that the guy was white)

#

so we have a problem here: Racism is being called out while there is no racism, resulting in to groups such as "Black Panthers", "Kick Out Zwarte Pit", "Black Lives Matters", fighting for something which is already there, resulting to unbalancing the balance - giving netto a reverse middle age

#

Perhaps its valid accross the ocean, but here... no

pearl elk
#

Its different here, we are similar to the US just not as bad. Aboriginals here have a nasty habit of dying while in police custody

sage tendon
#

we've only had 1 incident in the netherlands, 5 years ago

pearl elk
#

Even teenage Aboriginals are being abused, now I know sometimes a teenager needs a good kick up the arse but Gitmo style torture aint on

sage tendon
#

but since he was a colored person, he got reduced to just his color by those groups, how ironic

#

and now his name is being misused for goals which doesnt even apply

#

sickening tbh

#

even this is so fucking ironic, trying to ban black persons from a party as it would be racism... what do you think thats left after that? right, a white party.. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

pearl elk
#

Yeah it can be twisted, I see it all the time with Eminem, he gets reduced to being a white rapper.. and can only be compared to other white rappers because apparently the music is black

#

I get why that happens, I can see why people would be upset but its misdirected. Every year we have to put up with protests on Australia day because of something that happened well over 200 years ago

sage tendon
#

its just dumb, move on or something

#

staying the past will make the past stay as well

pearl elk
#

Theres not even many people alive today directly related to those back then, so we get blamed simply for being born here

#

Im all for giving people a leg up, promoting equity n all that but the blood feud needs to die

#

then everyone gets what they want, Aboriginals can mourn, we can celebrate and we can all be Australians

sage tendon
#

Imho, there should be a law that forbids people from speaking about racism, simple as that

pearl elk
#

They will never get rid of the whites from this country no matter how bad they want it

sage tendon
#

Racisms problem isnt racism anymore, its the void of racism that activists keep filling with racism

#

you cant fight racism while saying "You whites...."

pearl elk
#

They gotta stop feeding this bullshit that reverse racism isnt a thing

sage tendon
#

take away the racism card and see whats left of their argument (its none)

pearl elk
#

I get discriminated against because of the colour of my skin every Australia day like I said. Im not related to anyone who hurt any Aboriginals

#

It sucks it happened, Id do my best to help now but whats done is done

sage tendon
#

several years ago someone wanted something from me and to get my attention he called "Ey, hollander!"

#

which was very weird to me, as he was speaking dutch, being a passport holder, effecitly being dutch as well

#

i will never forget that

pearl elk
#

lol

#

I guess oi whitey doesnt go down as well

sage tendon
#

its a mentality position that those people take and use it to remain distant

#

why the hell are you moving to a country if you're not planning to intergrate, what was the motivation or reason to migrate?

#

it just so weird...

pearl elk
#

Yeah we get that here too and honestly that causes problems because people bring beef from other countries here and then it plays out on our streets

sage tendon
#

thats correct

#

we had pim fortuyn, a politician that was murdered in 2002

#

he said that

#

"we should stop immigration as they're brining their problems to our country. It will hurt our civilization"

pearl elk
#

worst racist rant Ive seen was actually by an Aboriginal women abusing a African woman on the bus, boy did she rip into her over being black

sage tendon
#

this week, due to those stupid protests, his statue got graffiti saying "RACIST"

#

with the regards of "Black lives matters"

#

the guy is dead, he fought for his country

#

how is that racist?

pearl elk
#

Im not really against immigration as I wouldnt be in Australia without it but it sure needs to changed so that people do integrate better or by better selecting people who will integrate.

sage tendon
#

look at that video

#

we're in corona people...

pearl elk
#

I understand people dont want to stay in a war torn country but some never make an effort, they only come here for the good conditions not because they want to be a part of the culture.

#

A country is more than a plot of land, thats what the Aboriginals never understood, they wernt a sovereign nation as much as they claim to be

#

Some of the far northern tribes couldnt even communicate with the southern tribes because they spoke different languages

sage tendon
#

People forget that when they have it good, how it used to be

#

Biggest example is in Africa where the white farmers were butchered, resulting in a hunger period because there werent enough left that know how to farm...

pearl elk
#

I mean the main one everyone misses, we call the Aboriginals the traditional owners of the land but the word Aboriginal refers to any indigenous people, their people have many names for the different tribes like Native Americans. They dont even have their own name for Australia, there was no self awareness of a nation

#

I consider this agenda to be racist and not equitable, it doesnt help Australians at all but it does keep us divided similar to the US

sage tendon
#

Hopefully the alien invasions comes soon, forcing everyone to understand that we're all part of mankind

pearl elk
#

Yeah thatd be awesome but no doubt the US will want to fight all on their own Hollywood style ๐Ÿ˜›

sage tendon
#

Trump already wants a Space Force ๐Ÿ˜›

pearl elk
#

Space Farce

#

Thats my best southie accent ๐Ÿ™‚

sage tendon
#

corona is still for many people a unseen thing, so natrually they'll just ignore it (like the west acted any different while Syrie was taken by ISIS)

#

but the alien invasion will be noticable for everyone ๐Ÿ˜›

#

UFO's everywhere etc

#

huge tripods making weird dubstep sounds

pearl elk
#

One thing I actually found out over the past few days is that the US doesnt recognize the ICC (court not the cricket)

sage tendon
#

I hope they will find a fix for bacteria, because how to did it in "War of Worlds" was just pathetic

#

Trump is pulling out of a lot of things that he shouldnt pull out of

#

its not like they are just another model hes banging

pearl elk
#

lol thats what she said

#

plus his wifey aint a model shes just KGB regular

#

best soviet snipers always been women

sage tendon
#

I thought she was just a trophy

#

always looks like she regrets choices in her life

pearl elk
#

I dunno why I have a soft spot for Ivanka, I think its pitty for having a father like Trump lol

#

some of the weird sleazy shit he's said with her by his side shudders

sage tendon
#

damn, she looks a bit like our Queen

#

(left Queen Maxima)
