flat chest status symbol?
you mean rich status or poor status
also you mean male or female
oh, suspicious pfp..
It is a quote from Izumi Konata. 😛
And it refers to the fact that a flat chest on a girl or a woman is a source of adoration and power.
he was obviously lying. Big boobs are where it's at.
She
There is a limit. At some point size goes from being beautiful to being ugly. (Personal opinion)
true
omg are you all that bored you are talking about boobs? 😐
yeah and now a right tit turned up :p
...seems like most of the youtubers just gave in and start doing 'react' and 'i paid people on fiverr to..'
On creation of a person each one have the same amount of mass, means the % mass that isn't using at brain or other places must be placed somewhere
React? I paid people on fiverr? What even is fiverr?
fiverr caught on and started sponsoring youtubers to do these kinds of videos
fiverr is a way of undervaluing your work whilst being underbid by other people who have no self-respect.
Do you have an example that these refer to?
by the way in the past was the curvy types the ones that are source of adoration
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.
the day I end up on fiverr doing UE work is the day I admit I have a crack addiction
I actually know someone who is working for fiver...
I recognize the logo.
@median wraith Yes, it oscillates.
@fathom wadi Is there a way to say that the cylinder should go from A to B, or do I have to put it at B+(B-A)/2 and set the rotation to match Norm(B-A)?
With the length scaled to match the distance.
you have to do it manually yeah. Getting the direction first
Ok, library time!
you could also use a spline
Never used splines before. This will be fun!
yeah its good fun. enjoy
think of it as deciding to bang a brunette instead of a blonde 😉
at my age, all I bang is my head off a wall as the kids drive me utterly insane
🤣 yup that rings a bell 😉
gonna attempt a question in here because its Blender related, but worth a shot as nobody is answering in the blender discord.
I've got my Chemical Safety Suit now i can walk without fear lols 😄
pricks a hole it in and runs away
Duct tape cannot always fix a duct, so I think they should reduce the price
Im a sultana.
I just want to say.... FML.
Oh this is fabulous. A new online platform, Bookshop, has created a centralized online shopping platform for independent bookstores around the country. Quarantine doesn't mean you have to resort to Amazon. https://t.co/2FYQ9DW1z9

I created that 8 years ago
never put it out there because I thought Amazon and Kindle would make it useless.
I have had so many ideas over the years, that were either half finished, needed money or simply just passing ideas, that have made people millions. And here I sit, thumb up my ass, wondering wtf happened to my life.
Never give up you will get better. We should be happy we have health. Being Healthy most important treasure.
im 43. I don't have time to plod on, hoping my determinism gets me through. I've been doing that the past 10 years in game dev and im still a broke ass bitch.
they say hard work pays off. Bullshit. Luck and exploitation pays off
I aggree with you and wealth is not most important thing in this life. If you have a decent job, a house and a car you're better than most of the people living in this planet. If you have average western life than you are better than 60% of the humans in living conditions.
yeah Im one of those people who considers himself lucky to have what I do, but I have to leave behind something for my family when I die. At the current rate, they are going to be in debt buying me.
This world is hard place i wish you luck.
i have it easy. But in relative terms, Im struggling on a permanent basis and getting nowhere, like swimming against the tide.
I’m going give $10,000 to someone random who retweets this tweet because its Easter 🐣 (must be following me so I can dm you)

I dont know anything anymore. Depression strikes.
bet the can strike back
worst star wars movie ever?
episode 1
episode 1 was great
nope. The Bet Can Strike Back
episode 1 had some good bits, but it also had all the bits with the characters in, which sucked.
Good old Twitter, when you are trying to kick a depression, it knows and kicks you in the face.
well sod this. time to go waste some more life and play a game I won't enjoy.
can you please spoiler that?

What is the difference between a spline component and a spline mesh component?

I won
I lost
So whats the idea of the game, click all the Allars and no numbers?
lol wow these old UE4s are hilarious
@rose edge spline component is the spline. Spline Mesh Component is the mesh that goes on the spline component.
how do you continue from here
the numbers count the diagonals as well
yeah
both the bottom and the left of that has at least two possibilities how it could be
wait
go under the 1 on the right
I completely missed the 2 between there
(has the solution lol)
this is unexpectedly difficult
lol well I got hammered on my second pick so youre going well
am getting there
check this out https://unigine.com/products/community/advantages/
Your supposed to put flags in Zeb
how
Good question
submit bug to QA
how tf do I continue with this long row now
@placid thistle check out the pricing page.
Dear @late night, I enjoy this new game but how do we put flags in?
Thank you,
Politely Asking
lol those 2 lines are really bad
im waiting for the season pass tbh
@signal citrus go write discord
you have to buy the flags
Dear Discord, I enjoy Allar’s new game but cannot put flags in. Why?
Thank you,
Slightly Demanding
I solved it
spoiler alert
lol
anyone who is slower at this game than me needs spoilers
I clicked it and Allar's face appeared. I consider that a win
I thought that was the case too
you coulda just clicked em all, screenshot, close and reopen discord
I saw someone solve these at uni once and he we going like 1 click per second I was like wtf
||winning||
Real mine sweeper cheats the first click right?
I think it depends on the difficulty
Hm difficulty determines instant loss chance?
Go with a corner I guess
Corners: generally safer
minesweeper generally guarantees first click is not a mine i think
Thought so too
@fathom wadi free for indies (only took 10 years 🙄 )
yeah and if you want to actually sell anything you pay 150/month/person
gimped for indies
@alpine fern not if you have less that 100k funding
the free license is non-commercial
I was super hyped till I saw all the landscape tools are cut out of the pleb version
@alpine fern well, you can get crowdfunding and then release game for free 😛
crowdfunding will count towards that 100k
someone needs to make a counterstrike 2, cstrike2
I don't see why one would use Unigine for games.. But linked it here cuz it looks better than CryEngine 🙂
@placid thistle free stripped down version for indies though. What happens when they need a feature? £150/mo or £6000. Sounds like a setup to me
its got some great features tho
who knows they might revise that in the future
bet it comes with no source aswell
I just grabbed Skater XL and I looked all over the internet to see what engine it was before buying
They keep the fact that its unity pretty secret
Until you get that ugly startup splash configuration promotion unity games do
I dont what there is to hide. I thought Unity has a good rep these days for released content. Perhaps less amongst devs, but regular joes don't know that
well the game is in early access
so like most unity pc-only games, it'd be safe to say that a lot of these get out of early access or do so timely.
pc-only?
and hey its not letting me play, cause i've got a fighting stick plugged in
yeah as opposed to mobile games
was gonna say what Im readin here is its coming to current consoles as well
use the flight stick
PBR Viewport Fight! - Compare Unreal, 3DS Max, Blender, and Modo
Tested using Unreal 4.24.3, 3DS Max 2021, Blender 2.82a, and Modo 14v1
This is a personal study and not at all scientific. All tests use the same PBR textures with equivalent PBR material settings. No Post Proc...
choose your fighter
My assumption of fightstick getting in the way was wrong
you forgot to attach thumbs first?
are you trying to press A on the keyboard?
(Microsoft didnt think that one through entirely)
(XBOX 360 CONTROLLER) I fixed this problem by starting the game in windowed mode, and then pressing ALT + ENTER after starting the game to go fullscreen.
lol that doesn't work
going to steam settings?
yup
ye just tried, nothing
Id lend you one of my 3 non-xbox gamepads, bet those work fine 😛
maybe its one of those shit releases that is designed for a day 1 patch so the crack groups have to do twice the work?
only issue is you have to remember which buttons in which position 🙂
press A, which ones A again hmmm X
lies
Im gonna make all my future games only work with a Kempston Joystick
figured it out kind of
unity is calling my controller joystick 1
so i have to go through every bind and re-enter. ( i think )
Cool so we can blame Unity
i would, this is the only game i've had issues with lol
try playing guitar hero on an emulator. Makes you want to buy a real guitar I swear.
wouldn't recommend grabbing skater xl
refund
first time i've considered it because the information on the game out there is lacking
now you know why Unity wants nothing to do with them 😛
i think its the other way around
@fathom wadi Is there a way to scale the mesh used for the spline BEFORE it is used to generate the spline? All I get it the entire shape getting scaled, instead of the pipe itself becoming thinner.
information on the game is lacking, which is why i gave it a chance
Does anyone know of a tutorial for a lobby that displays your character before queuing into a game? I've seen stuff for it, being finished, but no tutorials.
You lied to me, @fathom wadi ! Splines are not easy. What is this BS?! It looks like shit!
Splines are great, its the tools UI which needs some work 😛
I am using BPs to create them.
I cant even get them to use the correct material. THey default to the base material.
They also dont cover every gap, and and and and.
Yeah its not really a tool its a set of pieces to create a tool ontop of
Theres quite alot Epic could do to get everyone onto a consistent interface in regards to working with Spline meshes
Why does the material I apply not show up on the meshes then?
@pearl elk https://mixer.com/NoobsDeSroobs
As you can see.
your mesh needs to be along the X axis by default
oh wow your stream looks odd lol its all UE4 tooltips
worked fine when you were ingame
I am restarting the editor, but I am not getting a connection to Epic so I cant start the epic launcher
you can boot it directly by double clicking the uproject in the folder
Yea, that is what I ended up doing.
launcher is so unresponsive, they made it alittle better but still crap
There!
That explains it! At least one part of it.
Still cant figure out why the meshes are missing and the material is not being applied
I think you have to select the material from the mesh and apply it to the spline mesh manually, it doesnt automagically use the meshes default material for whatever reason
Ive seen this issue before with multi-monitor setups and streaming UE4, it just goes nuts when the tooltips come up
oops
Is there a way I can show the spline visualisation ingame then?
That is exactly what I want.
I may have vastly underestimated the time needed to build a 1200km^2 tiled map in worldmachine. It might be a good time to go clean out the garage.
Have you ever seen anyone go to the toilet in TWD?
plenty of time for monologues just not time for the crapper
they eat so Id assume they would
you'll have to follow a zombie let us know
That's why Rick is missing for last 6 years, he is still looking for toilet paper @pearl elk
Either that or he's taking 10 seasons worth of shits back to back
just watch the first 1 and last 2 episodes of every season
the rest is filler
watch Mr.Robot. No filler in there.
they stick to that formula pretty much all the way through, you expect things to pick up but it never does
I lost interest in the same moment comic ended. Which was a while after rick in TV show disappear.
I mean, I lost interest earlier, but at that point it lost me completely. Seen maybe 1 episode of 10 season. Maybe 2 of second half of 9 season.
To be fair last season of Mr.Robot kinda lost me too. I watched it and while it was good, it really felt like this formula can go only so far.
Zero Zero Zero was good.
they lost me with Negan, I tried to keep watching but it just wasnt the same. It wasnt just that though earlier they had the whole town stealth bit where Carl got his eye messed up, that was lame AF
so much potential though but they piss most of it away on boring exposition, most of the guts of it is told through the actions not all the talk
Negan has the hugest plot armour though, he shoulda just walked around talking the zombies to death
Negan vs Drogon, Drogon dies of old age before he finishes his first monologue 😛
The problem I have with it is that the show relies entirely on the stupidity of every single character in the world. I mean we have machines that can tear down mountains. There might be a little chaos at first but in a few months at most it would be zombies hooked up to hamster wheels generating power and pulse monitors hooked up to an alarm system.
Most realistic zombie movie ever made. https://youtu.be/IDvIcCoXpMk

Fido (2006) Official Trailer #1 - Zombie Comedy ...
what I don't get is why didn't they just give them mobile phones. I mean the world is full of zombies on social media that are under control
Going to try building this 35km^2 map again without erosion just to have something to test with.
Oh, wow yeah it's already done.
Some people... I mean... sigh
Yeah, it seems like it's more and more often lately too.
I report those kinds of posts right away. Facebook has a long history of banning groups that don't come down hard on piracy
Alexander has been working on that for years. Pisses me off to think he would get ripped off even with one sale.
lol your reply
yeah, half tempted to actually send him a trojan but I don't have a server setup for one to connect to anymore.
I saw this too. I happened to be walking around at around 1am and saw this orange light, it split into 3 parts. I thought something had blown up.
I assume half the posts like that are trolls though
you should see the Blender group im in. Its troll city
OpenVFX?
no Blender World
without erosion 32km^2
I'm going to have to mess with the erosion a bit and see if I can cut down the time it takes because I'm not waiting 3 days for a map to build.
I should build it on mine, I haven't done anything productive in a couple of weeks. I keep starting up Blender then shutting it down
I built a physics flyer and got it working fairly decent but then bought a couple off the market to compare methods. Man this one asset is so well done. https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/en-US/product/aerocomp
It should be required to look over his plugin or one with as much detail to documentation before submitting a plugin.
I'm sick of buying code plugins without a single comment or tooltip.
I made a plugin and it was so convoluted compered to the PR version, im tempted to do my first PR
There was another one I bought last night to check out and not one comment in the entire c++ code or BPs and not one tooltip.
I didn't think they would get accepted if they didn't have the required comments and things
thats part of why I hate making marketplace stuff. Too much tidy work
I don't think I can post the code here but not a single comment
At least it's formatted right :/
yeah, I mean I can follow it. That's the best one too it is easy enough to read. I know enough about flight sim to know what each thing does too but I'm not the typical target for the plugin.
But there should be at least some documentation somewhere
with out having to watch a couple hours of the guys Youtube videos
But that other asset, I'm just impressed by how well it's put together to adjust to whatever you need. I also like that he took all the math functions and put them in a separate library file so you can use them in your own stuff.
cool
Cleaned the garage out a little, took the old kitchen cabinets to the curb and got out the kids dune buggy and jeeps to charge them.
My landlord decided he wanted to cut down all the trees and bushes in my garden, then left all the branches everywhere, said he would get someone to come around to remove it. That was in September.
so no garden for me
My 8yr has this drivable red car from the Cars movie. It had a restictor in it that I took out and the thing flys down the sidewalk.
wow, that sucks
I'm about to buy some more giant shrubs to block out my neighbor.
Does that mean we have to murder a Jew? I don't get it.... what about other religions?
o_0
I thought easter spirit was a giant bunny that had a rooster "friend"?
No idea anymore. I stopped putting ash on my forehead decades ago
It bugs me when religion comes into play in a scientific war. Prayers dont do shit. I know, I've been praying for years to get the hell out of this place, and it never happens.
Oh, so origin rebasing is in world settings ? Was it always there?
yeah
The tooltip implies it's automatic, I was under the impression you had to call it. I also don't see a setting for distance.
I worked on a VR space game that was realworld scale. So it had space stations that were literally 3km in size. Thats when I learned about the rebasing stuff. But we never used it because it wasn't my decision to make as Technical Director ¬_¬
yeah, I'm finding 64km^2 is too small to be fun with really fast flyers
I was once tasked to try fix the floating point issues and I came back with the rebasing options, and was pretty much ignored.
it got fixed eventually when everything was scaled down. Over 120 levels worth of stuff....
There's a double precision fork but it's on like 4.17 or something
Yeah, I'm combining a changed scale and rebasing
I did mention the double precision stuff but it was so entrenched in the core mechanics that it would have taken an engine mod to do it.
you can use the std::setprecision stuff for small cases in scoped functionality, but not engine wide
Yeah and I'm working with physics
this was too
I'm sure it will be dealt with at some point either 4.978 or 5.55
One of my fave bugs was the precision collision errors. If you went too fast, and you were too far from origin, collision just stopped working because you were already inside the object by the time it ticked through the physics update. So I had to write a workaround that "bounced" you back out of the object :/
Yeah, CCD seems to work with that. If I find it doesn't I'll just have to use some traces and fake it.
I should have started making something like this a while back. I love flight stuff. I mean I grew up flying sims on base and watching my dad design aircraft and missiles. I even worked on base during college. There was an actual predator drone suspended from the ceiling above my desk in the hangar.
Idk though, I've learned a lot the past two years it wouldn't have been as easy until now.
indeed. I wouldn't mind doing a space shooter/trading game.
I made a zero G flyer a while back that was fun. I think one of my channels has a video of it.
Isn't it bad enough the humans have shot up the Earth? Now you want to shoot up space too?
It was fun flying form one station to the other and landing in the hangars.
I would like an ultra-realistic game trying to simulate what it would be like flying in space 100 years from now.
X4 had a really nice gameplay flow, I keep meaning to get back into that
No like far sci-fi where it is easy to fly a space ship.
I don't see it up anywhere. But anyway it was fun. I gave each station a mild gravity.
About to see how bad this map looks without erosion. But it will at least give me a large world to start messing with.
What erosion tool are you using?
I use WorldMachine. It just takes a long time to build a big map with it.
I haven't tried making terrain for a large world yet.
I've got a pretty good set of macros I use in it. It builds the world and outputs weight maps for material layers.
I know if I do end up making my game larger I am going to use the oldschool loading screen method though.
I use RoomMachine. But I can only make my room, and I can't leave it. Help.
It took a while to get it setup but it's fast now, at least it's fast to make a layout. Building is slow if you want quaility
I think that is called purgatory, Mr. Rogerson.
feels like it.
thats what my entire life feels like. I've always said, I ain't going to hell, Im already here 🙂
I should stop sounding so depressed tho
its not good for anyone
I need to find a new VPN it's getting way too slow. It's jsut hard to give up being grandfathered in at $5/month
I haven't used a VPN in years. Used to use them to simulate lan for old school multiplayer games
I was working on exporting different data maps for Gaea to combine with my Unreal Terrain Material to tell Unreal where certain trees should grow or where river beds run or where the snow would pile up.
All just me experimenting with what could be done with outputting things like flow maps to Unreal.
pretty soon you will be able to use Blender to import cities from Google maps. I started making the same thing back in 2014 but I ran into an engine issue that halted it, but I always wanted to redo it
Yeah, I've done that too. I tend to use different weight maps to add some detail. Flow and deposition maps work well. Then I'll use procedrual foilage volumes to place things like rocks, stones, tress etc and use the weight of the layers to help get a good feel.
I had a test map with the route that Ghost Rider took from Umea to Stockholm, and had UE4 build the road for a game I planned on making. But when the issue hit, I had to move on
sorry Uppsala not Umea
got a friend who lived there, confused me for a momeny
The famous Uppsala run. I deshaked that video in 2007, so I thought: Why not uploading it here? Average speed of that run: 273 km/h.
The original Video is SHAKY as HELL. Look at 0:17 as example: In the original video the numbers are stable, and the video around the numbers is ...
Yeah, the landscape and procedural tools are fun to work with. There's a lot of ways to use it that aren't really what it was intended for.
Idk why I've been avoiding procedural generation so much with UE it's one of my stronger areas.
Back before Unity had 2d tilemaps I wrote a tool that created a mesh and layered textures on the UVs using nosie generation then it would do a bitwise calculation to choose the right tiles to make everything layered and seamless.
I love doing stuff like that
This map is taking forever to import
someone in the unreal engine chan just made the best message I've ever seen in this discord 😄
Think he'll help me get this game done?
ask them when they come back in a week with an issue they can't solve 😄
"If you strike me down, I will become more powerful than..... wait a minute... Accessed None? WTF?"
I assume anyone posting who I've not seen post a dozen times at least is possibly a troll and treat everything they post with skepticism.
Once this map gets done I'm going to make some over the top spaceship guns and missiles and some stuff to blow up. A few ground turrets.
Might be a good time to try out chaos when 4.25 hits.
Im not even sure what im doing right now. I have Fighting Films talking to me about a Judo VR game for practicing with, half a dozen half finished prototypes that need money and people, 3 marketplace items that need the final work done to them, and no motivation to do any of it.
What's your skillset? Idk that I've ever really seen any of your work. I know you're way beyond me on the C++ stuff.
I don't have a budget right now but wouldn't mind finding something to work on together at some point. I've got an insane library of assets.
my skillset is complaining about my own procrastination apparently. But usually UI work, debugging, coding, blueprints of course, plugins, editor/engine mods, and a bit of everything else. Some modelling with Blender.
Maybe I should do some level design with the assets I do have. But then I think, whats the point? If its not for a game, its just wasting time
I'm getting antsy about the Xbox dev kits I asked for they've never taken this long to get back to me about something.
Yeah, I spent a ton of time on that sidescroller just because I had the tools to make it. I just never liked it. I don't really play those type of games. It's pretty much a finished game at this point just needs to be slapped together.
I like making the tools to build stuff but then get bored.
yeah I like making tools for stuff. My Widget Theme Plugin would be awesome if I finished it. It's working, but I have more to do on it. Its one of those projects I wish I hadn't started though. I could make the same thing inside the engine source, directly, in way less code and more optimal.
Steam release
You want to see my level design?
I assign the elements of the game a number and then roll a die or use a random number generator and piece them together on graph paper
Im glad to see im not the only 1 suffering of starting too many projects
Paper is good, i was working on my ai for hours last night and meanwhile i forgotwhat the fuck i even wanted to do... wrote it down on paper woke up today and did it in 30 minutes
I just got a lot of bratwurst in the mail.
That does look cool. I think I looked at it before too.
Maybe thats my problem Rei. I need to stop getting 3/4 of the way in, then coming up with better ideas. I should just put out some crap stuff and see what floats.
Something to keep in mind for the future.
Thats why im back to my first project
First project ever, get it done enough
Move on with life
I'm just going to try and make something that's fun for me. I can fly around and blow stuff up all day.
I really like working with physics too
I could show you my first project that I never finished. I recently updated it with new code because I started it with 4.2
So you did have fun transitioning to iwyu :)
I literally started it from scratch again. No way I was recycling the old code
First game I ever shared was a marble maze for android that worked by tilting the phone. I made it for my kid to play.
Err no that's wrong it was a thing that played sounds from random buttons
it was back when the C++ initialisation code was the "old way"
most of the games I've made have been for my kids to play
Cube 2: Hypercube. Its meant for VR really but I have Manny in there for testing world comp
I like the look of that
reminds me of that horror movie where they have to move from room to room
do you mean Cube ?
the one with the rooms with each wall being a square of the same size
Idk, maybe I think there's a word for it
compressed spheres?
thats a screen of the original. Mines the sequel and there was a third as a prequel
I worked in Unreal 3, Unity, Cryengine, and much more back in the early 2010s. But then I retired for about 5 years.
this was my first project, I started using UE about a month or so before this :https://youtu.be/biECQdCajw4
I first made my Cube 2 prototype in Havok Engine, but I've used Crytek, Hammer, UDK, ue4 over the years
I hate the Hammer editor...
me too thats why I ended up with UT2004 editor and eventually into UDK
I started with the Unreal Tournament 3 editor before the UDK was released.
I started with GFA Basic but used mostly Java based engines after that.
I was just experimenting with getting the pool balls to have some serious momentum without flying off the sides of the pool table.
Then trying to figure out how to allow the player to hit the pool ball, but then have the pool balls run over the player if you don't get out of the way.
The real challenge of the game was meant to be running away from the pool balls you just hit.
The only video I have is in an early state before I added in the player getting run over.
ship it!
I was tasked with a Marble Madness type game thing once. I had to make a custom camera in UDK that gave you a top down view, you but you could tilt the camera and effect the speed of a physics based ball around a maze. Took me 3 months to get it perfect as I didn't know Calculus or anything about quaternions.
thats where blueprints come into play
does this work
no
how about this
still no
after like 100 different nodes
eventually
you'll get something working
yeah try that with kismet 1.0 :p
I made the camera with unrealscript though... which taught me a lot about unreal engine code. Came in useful for UE4
I swear if this editor crashes before finishing this map import I'm going to burn a UE logo into a piece of toast and feed it to wild ducks on a rampage.
I like ducks.
My temp is always 99.
I got over mine. Not sure if it was covid or not, as we still dont do mass testing for it
is it too early to start making money on "I survived Covid-19" tshirts
"I might have survived Covid-19" or "First Wave 2020 alumni"
Yeah, imported and saved all
If only this read "finishing your lame C++ code the right way douche".
hahah whilst it was loading up Visual Studio, and I was pasting that and typing, it gave visual studio the modal focus and now I have extra "code" :p
I might be able to get my computer on Monday. Or at least have someone ship it to me on Monday.
think its time to go eat chocolate and watch something. Otherwise im gonna end up going through all my old projects with some kind of nostalgia trip.
I need to read up on managing a huge world again.
yeah im trying to get as much gamemplay done before the red wine kicks in
what you have problems with?
getting things to line up?
working with other people has always helped me with UMg because i always learn a different way that people do things, and everyone has a different way of doing it
combined together to form a super solution to UMG
Maybe I should have waited for the shaders to compile before trying to load the maps
The simple stuff is easy, but I want to do more complex menus. Primarily radial menus.
I have several marketplace projects I am deconstructing to see how they make radial menus.
Then I have to get my dialogue trees to feed into the radial menus.
So I am testing several different ways to manage the game dialogue and dialogue variables and how to best have that called in the UMG.
So it is nothing all that crazy, I just need to work at it a bit more to figure out what is the most efficient way for me to do this all.
yeah those feel really alive
That's what I will do for my main menu.
But currently I am just trying to design the dialogue user interface that overlays over the screen when the player talks to an npc.
Ah,
Like this kind of thing.
I have some dialogue tree tools that I got from Epics free stuff on the marketplace, and another one I bought.
But I need to
A. Figure out how to plug that dialogue tree tool, or the one I made myself, into the radial UMG I am designing
B. Modify the dialogue system I end up choosing to have short answer on the dialogue and then longer responses in the captioning for the speaking.
Eventually the goal is to have multiple dialogue wheels for multiple kinds of choices. So the dialogue blueprint for the NPC will have to be able to send out a variable that tells the UMG script which UMG dialogue wheel to bring up before populating the actual dialogue into that dialogue wheel.
i think theres been at least 3 free dialogue assets ever since they started giving away stuff
I have all of them.
i think 1 of these is in the permanently free collection
All need to be highly customized to work for what I want to do. So I am just in the process of testing and seeing which will fit best.
yeah thats with almost every marketplace asset for sure
on construct you can generate widgets, so you'd just need a radial widget that can expand depending on the case... but yeah it can get complex depending on the dialogue trees i imagine
It's not too hard overall, but UMG is not my normal area of work.
But once I finish this, I can do a lot of really cool things with it.
I'm trying to understand better how the game reads the angle at which the player is pointing in the radial menu.
From there I want to make some small mini games involving that. But until I can wrap my head around how the interface recognizes a 'collision' so to say, I can't do that.
are you going to "pause" the game when a dialogue like that pops up?
do you have advanced locomotion system? the reason i ask is, in the system he translates gamepad input in cardinal directions so ultimately you can have 8 directions
you could do something like that
take those 8 cardinal directions to point at a widget (or the closest widget to that direction)
Well, the dialogue will take away the control of one of your analog joysticks, so that is certainly something to consider.
I am debating on how much control in the world I want the player to have while in dialogue.
One of the things I want to avoid is having the player using the interface to select something like 'pick up the hammer' when that is something that the player could perfectly well do on his/her own without needing an interface for it.
So if the interface is up, but the player can use something in the world in the middle of the interface, I want to make room for that.
I use the Advanced Locomotion System as my primary player character in my prototype.
if you have some time dig into this
just look up cardinal in the als base character
you could add an additional return
with a branch like, is widget on screen?
and then return the cardinal direction
But I also wanted to design some conversations in a way that you can choose to re-position your player closer, further, or different body language type things to influence the mood of the conversation. Like for example if you are having a conversation and there just so happens to be a gun on the table, how you stand compared to that gun would effect the conversation and how nervous the npc got.
yo someone come help me on the unreal engine channel
haha thats interesting Mao
npc: "why is your base aim rotation pointing to the gun Mr. Player?
That might be a good route to take, Mr. Games, putting the controls for the UMG primarily in the player character and sending it to the UMG as opposed to trying to figure it out in the UMG.
Might make things more manageable later on when I start trying to add more functionality with the player during conversations.
Have you ever been in a room with a cat that did not know you, Mr. Games?
My point is simply that cats are both predator and prey. A big part of how a cat views the world is through knowing where it is safe.
So a cat will always scope out a room and know how many doorways there are to escape.
So if you are in a room with only one doorway, and you block that doorway, the cat will get nervous.
If you move 1 meter to the left and the cat still has access to an escape, it will feel less nervous.
this is going to be an interesting dialogue system
I want to add things like this later on.
You block the way out, people get nervous. You move closer to them, it changes the context as well. If you move away from the gun on the table they feel less threatened.
it would breathe more life into those type of scenarios for sure
I hate it when dialogue interfaces just give you a 'do the right thing' or 'do the wrong thing' option and take the puzzle away from you.
That's like stepping into a boss fight and having the game ask you in an interface 'beat the boss' or 'lose to the boss'...
I think dialogue can be a boss fight or a puzzle if done right.
yeah its an interesting take for sure, but since you are only 1 person, you'd need to figure out a way, as you know, to get this done as procedurally as possible, so that you can punch in your dialogues through data tables and have UMG do the layout work for you... or else its gonna take too long for 1 person
So I want the decisions you make to be
a. predictable
but
b. relative to context
So you don't get to choose 'be the good guy' or 'be the bad guy'. You have to figure out what action would be good or bad in that moment.
Is being aggressive in this situation good or bad? I don't know, that's up to you as the player to judge the situation and find out.
make things as generic and re-usable as possible would be your friend in this game you are talking about, so "threat actors" for example, that measure you proximity to them and change the dialogue accordingly
you probably know all this
im just stepping into it for the first time
As far as my first game goes, the scale is so small that it might end up being better to just enter it all in manually as a proof of concept, as opposed to trying to create an entire procedural system.
I'm not totally sure at this point though, I will probably end up somewhere in the middle.
The idea is just to have 3 conversations that are my 'boss battles' so to say, while the other conversations in the game don't need the complexity.
In the end if people like my small slice, I would end up doing something much more procedural, that's for sure.
yeah you could certaintly make it a prequel
The core gameplay is looking for clues through interacting with objects and people.
The two core mechanics I am focusing on are making it fun to interact with object and making it fun to talk to npcs.
sherlock holmes is free this week btw, you just reminded me...
I got it. Not sure if I can run it on my laptop.
I didn't look at the required specs.
The idea for my small slice of a game was to focus on just one small area of what people like about games, and this time it was how exploring and dialogue allow a player to interact with the story.
If I make more games I will slowly introduce more pieces one at a time. Trying for quality of each individual piece over having quantity.
So I would add in platforming and really focus on that for one game.
I wouldn't try to add in platforming, combat, item crafting, a level up system, and ranged weapons all in the same game.
Probably.
yet
I even disabled the ability to jump.
I had to allow the player to walk though... sigh...
Couldn't explore the village without walking...
i think its more in the context of the game though, like some games you are this badass solider etc. etc.
that cant jump
it just
doesnt feel right
Assassin's Creed not having a jump button...
I don't see much reason for a journalist to be running around a small village jumping up and down while he writes notes in his notebook.
its more of a time thing though, like my adult life is hard enough, when games give me too much work without rewards of just having fun i turn away from them very fast
I do let him jog though, because people have places to go and slow walking is boring.
well if hes a journalist runing from that saudi princeking
might turn into mirrors edge
In a latter game when he gets mixed up with the mafia I will add in more athletic controls for the journalist.
lol
But the mood of this game is to be relaxing.
thats what they said about animal crossing
and i find it the opposite
just questing about
i relax shooting shit up for some reason
Mao's Rei's psychiatry session
Well, that's why there are different types of games.
true , yeah , different people like different things
I'm trying to go for a more niche genre that has less options for people to play.
it sounds like a good plan as well, that way you can finish and focus
Not all the stuff I have planned is going to be that way. This is just the mood I chose to go for 1st.
If I make a second project it will likely have a different mood.
But for my first project I figured I should assess my own skills and assets at my disposal. And it seemed appropriate for the type of stories I write, the type of music I can write for the game, my access to voice actors, and what my skills in Unreal are.
The one thing that sticks out from that formula is the emphasis on UMG which is not part of what I am already comfortable with.
But you could say that about any of my other ideas as well, they all had one or more challenging aspects.
But I didn't want to end up choosing a story for my game that required me to rely on a large amount of voice actors and have to have someone else help me with the music and require a large amount of animations that I simply don't have.
YEah i hear you, 4 years into game dev with 1 project "almost" released on steam, i hear you lol.... everything is do-able alone, it just takes time... but i hear you being smart about it and super realistic , small is the best way to go.. now... ship it!
I was part of enough failed teams and companies to have learned a lot of stuff the hard way.
No thanks.

my daughter as a 4 yr old watches more advanced things on her ipad than i did when i was in 6th grade

well
we'll know the outcome 10 years from now
stay tuned
i think humans enjoy learning

I think when children can learn a lot more by simply enjoying reading, listening to, or watching something than when they actually try studying something and memorizing it for a test or whatever.
as an adult as well studying C# and sql interview questions i feel the same way as a child then
that sounds like a serious issue mike
howd they mess that 1 up
7000 developers later...
I got the 40km^2 map working but if I try and shift the origin the render thread crashes. YEah it's good news that it's a bug that's already fixed though.
It's still playable with out it just gets rough flying past 20km
That's a lot of kilometers...
Idk, havent checked yet
ive always wondered myself why flying in games isnt faster
What if you just make the airplane 2cm?
I've already reduced scale as far as I'm comfortable with.
Combining a reduction in scale with origin shifting and world comp to get huge maps
nah yeah i mean, i get it you want to travel actual large distances, 4.25 is close
Are there going to be dinosaurs in your flying game?
Yeah, I mean honestly that's about as good as it gets to find a bug and see a fix is that close
0.2 km /sec
That's not bad some jets do .89 km/s
It is cold outside...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4MHTbwt-Xw because you said it's cold, you reminded me of this
taken from the record "Scenes from the Second Storey"
-1993-
The God Machine was a rock band active in the first half of the 1990s. Its members were all from San Diego, California, U.S., but they all lived and performed mainly in the United Kingdom. Subsequently, they were...
Is that cold?
Dont you love it when you check out a song and scroll the comments, and there you are back in time.
I was expecting this when I read the title...
Music from Fallout 4’s in-game radio station, Diamond City Radio.
Song: It's All Over But The Crying
Artists: The Ink Spots
Single: I'll Make Up For Everything / It's All Over But The Crying
Year: 1948
All material belongs to its rightful owners.
I do have to say, I really like that guitar solo in the song you posted.
I can;t let myself listen to The God Machine often, its supremely soul destroying music. Hits me in the feels.
yeah I learned that solo immediately upon hearing the album
I like really subtle and slow guitar solos though.
I learned the entire album to tell you the truth
Lyrics:
If you are the dealer, I'm out of the game
If you are the healer, it means I'm broken and lame
If thine is the glory then mine must be the shame
You want it darker

Once I was sat up all night learning bits of the song "Seven" and my girlfriend woke up and said "will you turn it off its been playing for hours". Thats when I knew she wasn't for me.

LEONARD COHEN - Waiting For The Miracle
I really regret not going to see him when I had the chance
I like Assassin's Creed Origins, even if just for wandering around and exploring Egypt.
Some of the boss fights and stuff were just dumb...
yeah he was always so cool
@north torrent I really liked the water shader in that game. Impressive
I had a roommate once that had read all his books and had no idea he was a musician
I had never read his books
I traded him some tapes for some books
It is one of my favorite times in history, so the chance to see Roman, Greek, and Egyptian architecture all at once was great.
My first girl friend introduced me to him with famous blue raincoat
At the top of my list ever since.
He played at a place not far from here right when my 8 year old was born and I didn't want to leave her with anyone at that age. I had no idea it would be the last chance. Still wouldn't have gone though
I used to emulate Cohen when I wanted to do some deep throaty sounds when singing. I can get pretty low vocally but I can also switch it up a couple of octaves and sound high pitched.
My biggest music regret was not seeing Frank Zappa. His last tour in the UK was 1988 and I was only 12 so my parents wouldn't let me goto London alone, nor would they come with me. So I thought fair enough I'll go when I leave school. So I left school, went to college and was hoping to do well enough that my parents would spot me the cash to go to the next tour. And he died of cancer in 1993. That was my "Cobain" moment.
I ain't never heard a horse sing a song. ~Louis Armstrong~
Now Im in the mood to do some kind of music video thing in UE. Maybe a fake claymation video or something weird like Bruce Bickford did.
Nietzche used to talk to his horse.
I heard that all the great animators time their animations to music.
Not sure if that is true.
check this out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjXiEqxvfqI
Baby Snakes is a movie which includes footage from Frank Zappa's 1977 Halloween concert at New York City's Palladium Theater, backstage antics from the crew, and stop motion clay animation from award-winning animator Bruce Bickford.
pre-computer animation 😄
I think world comp has gotten a lot better since the last time I messed with it.
I hadn't even touched LODs yet and the 40km^2 map is running ok
Generating them now and the auto lod seems decent enough
need to fix some seams a little
have a function ready for accuracy testing. Another good method is a secondary camera that calculates its path. You will see it shaking slightly when it gets innacurate.
Yeah origin rebase is broken in 4.24 but supposed to be fixed in 4.25. It gets rough at about 10km
I'll jsut make it storm
lol
dammit
yeah I read there was some improvement coming but I thought it was for the multiplayer side
adding Lods triggered the same crash I was getting from origin rebasing
my kid just woke up crying and I thought he needed feeding. But he half rolled over, farted, and went back to sleep. He's definitely mine.
I can relate to that.
Idk, it was either a one time crash or adding LOds to all the levels fixed it.
Some wierd hitches it didn't have before adding them though. I may need to break the tiles up even more.
The more I think about this, the more I think its a good idea.
Isn't Super Mario Bros. a game about kidnapping too?
yeah kinda. The truth is, the princess was banging Bowser on the side and Mario couldn't take the hint, thats why she always moved when she heard he was coming.
So it's actually a game about a stalker
wow, Mario is a real creep
I mean he kept breaking in to one place after another
I censored myself then. I had a quote from a movie, but it was out of place here 😄
I really like how this looks using the post from that map that was free this month.
thank the lord, as my wife wont let me on PS4 anymore.
it was known since like annoucment ?
i willl wait for all parts to be released
to play glorius 250 fps
I'd wait but its gonna drag out for years. I'd rather just keep up with the Joneses on this one.
nothing worse tho than coming back to an RPG after some time, especially when you open your inventory and think "what the hell did I keep this for?"
Illuminati confirmed.
I've been loading up the various landscapes I have and flying around them. It's pretty clear the lods were not setup with flying around at .2km/s in mind
That's 720km/h?
an F18 has a cruising speed of 1000 km/h so it's not that ridiculous
Well I did that speeds you just have to know how to setup
Don't spect to have big details on ground
I know. I'm setting up a map to work with it and testing out variations.
I have a 40km^2 testing map setup.
You know some of the people on my facebook make me want to smash my head against a wall.
they should be locked up if they dont take it. Spreaders.
I say that with jest. I mean if they dont want to fine, but keep them away from the public.
Is it that any and every vaccine is bad?
Are bats bad?
Bats good
I might get my computer sent to me on Monday.
You've probably heard of fishing bats... but what about when the fish does the hunting? Fishing bats in Belize might snatch and eat up to 30 fish in one night. But they had better watch out — because sometimes, it's the fish that catches the bat!

Not so sure about the Ultrawide.
Too wide?
Too ultrawide.
Thought so
Have you ever seen the box for one of those things?
Can’t say that I have
When I bought it and my computer guy brought the box to me I was shocked...
Makes sense
It isn't like the cheap monitors I have that are really light weight and easy to carry around.
This 50 inch 4k tv I am using weighs less and is easier to move.
I’d use that over a ultra wide really
But I imagine if it’s the 150$ one it might be lacking ?
Lets unbox a sick new Benq EX3501R curved monitor!

I can't output to 4k from my laptop, so we will see how 4k looks on this thing if I get my computer.
The slightly broken 4k is certainly not a bad temporary option for the next month or so, but it isn't the quality of the Benq. No 100hz, no HDR, not very accurate colors.
This 50 inch is slightly wider than the ultrawide, and considerable taller.
Neither of which are all that beneficial for my work.
And it is slightly broken, which isn't as noticeable when I am working in different windows and such, but sometime when watching movies and playing games the broken spot is right in an annoying spot.

@median wraith beware that Karol doesnt see it
For some reason 60hz on this looks worse than 60hz on my ultrawide. Not sure why.
Anyone here have a problem with PMs on the forums? About half the messages I get are blank (even though there is preview text in my e-mail notification)
Taller is good for code I guess I can see how ultra wide would be better for not code but idk I like getting close the screen
But that also might be my laptop... so I guess I can't really judge at the moment with that large variable.
@signal citrus you can get the monitor and put it in vertical I bet
did it back in the time
The ultrawide at my desk uses pretty much the entire usable area of my eyesight without me moving my head or turning my chair.
Yea I think mons does that. The 42inch takes up full field of view with how close I sit to it though
I could turn the 4k vertical next to the Ultrawide...It came with a free wall mount, but I don't know if wall mounts mount vertical.
I do most gaming on a 1080p next to it
Ewwww... 1080p...
Ye tho 240hz is nice
Would you get fireflies active in the day, in a rainforest environment?
I intentionally don't want to train my brain to like higher hz...
Not until the technology catches up and I can play Red Dead 2 at 3440 x 1440 on 240hz.
If you think of your sight being open and closed at intervals the your not seeing any more number of frames but you are being bombarded with more perceived motion
And yeah that’s the struggle with 4K
360hz is a thing now
I don't understand the science of it, but I just know that over time we get spoiled by new technology and it is hard to turn back.
There was a day when 1080p gaming looked amazing.
I just don't want to get accustomed to something that is ahead of the times, so that I have to make sacrifices in quality in other areas to achieve my new level of awesome perception of the digital world.
Maybe when I make my RTX 3090ti Super XL Omega Rig.
For game dev they help me see the physics smoother
Really is that what they are calling it?
I heard they might drop the ti and replace it with an RTX 3090. But I am not sure, just a rumor I heard.
I think 27" 2560x1440 hits the sweet spot
So they might not have all the extra names... who knows.
I don't see myself getting a new 1080p monitor
3440 x 1440...
I think its fine playing at 60hz in 2K and I've had 4K for years. Often if a game is badly optimised for 4K, you get more enjoyment out of it in 2K. Case in point, The Division. It runs like arse in 4K, but 2K its just about fine.
Broken monitor was 1080p at 120hz was cool, but I won't pay the prices of the new 140hz here for 1440p are absurd
Long as VSync/gsync is off at 60hz it’s not horrible
I don't want bigger than 1440p but no lower, 1080p desktop from now looks like designed for kids
S-PVA panel so the colours are pretty good
I dont really have issues with it on at 60hz. It helps when framerates dip a little in badly optimised games
the gsync I mean
my posture has greatly improved since getting 32-inch monitors... now I lean waay back instead of forward 😄
Gsync is still syncing though
I am going to really piss off the people who play my game though. A lot of people will probably turn it off and ask for a refund immediately.
My game is going to be designed to 21:9 resolution and by default have black bars of 16:9 monitors.
You can easily turn that off in the settings, but I know it will piss people off.
Just like you can't jump by default, but I will also have a button to allow you to jump in the settings, for those people who feel claustrophobic not being able to jump in games.
I'm fine with 60hz monitor right now, if you don't play mega competitive games its fine, and for singleplayer games don't really need more
It stops the game from processing physics
no?
yeah but it does help. 42fps without gsync looks choppier than with it
all it does is that the GPU tells the screen to do a vertical blank
instead of GPU waiting for the screen to do it
it doesn't stop physics at all
that makes no sense
It won’t let the game run any faster than the refresh rate unless you have a game which somehow decouples display and physics
surely that would depends on if the drivers limit framerate to help, which wouldn't surprise me with Nvidia, they do lie and deceive quite often 🙂
@signal citrus any simulator decouples display and physics... unreal doesn't do this by default?
you can enable physics sub-stepping if you want
I don't think you can truly decouple them at all
unless you want multiple frames of lag
The game is still being paused which means chunkier physicis
Gsync is garbage this way
so you want tearing instead, got it
It only makes sense if you can’t keep up with the frame rate
There are active published games on Steam that don't even execute if you're monitor its over 60hz
Featuring every old resident evil
not even editing the config
No you just display the last finished frame jonimake like always
I usually leave my 100hz monitor at 60hz.
That’s how cs runs at 300fps
I like having the option if I do want 100hz though.
Tearing is a process of showing half finished frames
@signal citrus how do you display the last frame if the game ticks at 200 fps when you display only at 60 fps?
do you queue them up infinitely?
no, it just drops the frames between
yes it does unless you do v-sync
There is double and triple buffering available. Every time I’ve heard of tearing it is from showing unfinished frames to keep the frame rate perceivably high
that introduces input lag
That is where gsync comes in, when you can’t keep up
yes, what was your point again? 😄
@fluid bloom how can it show the ones that cannot be shown? That defeats the laws of physics.
I have old person lag.
Input lag is from holding the frame open like VSync or gsync do
Which is why pro players don’t use either
Oh, that reminds me, I need to add 'lag' into the vocab for my students this week. Very important word for them to learn in this time of online teaching.
It doesn't eliminate the lag. It just covers it up
how on earth can it lag when the display only refreshes when the GPU tells it to after it has finished rendering the frame?
you still have the same framerate
There is a world where the computer works faster than the display and a world where the computer is just under the rate of display
When the rate is under gsync serves purpose
Otherwise it is VSync
so get a 144 Hz display?
My 4k framerate in GTAV was 35-52fps on a 970. I had to use gsync because vsync didn't cut it. But when it was over 41fps, it looked like 60fps regardless. I didn't care how it worked, I just enjoyed the smooth image with no tearing.
If your game runs at 300+FPS then your giving up cycles that could be polling input more frequently
OS should handle the input polling under the hood and the game reads the buffer once it starts ticking the frame, no?
At 144hz and above gsync still only makes sense when you can’t reach the display rate
Unless you want VSync
past 144 FPS the frame time is a mere 6.9 ms which should be acceptable
Introduces lag still
@fluid bloom that's what you'd think, just as physics should run under the hood at the same rate regardless of fps as well, but a lot of sim racers say that input lag is a thing on anything under around 100fps (amazing amounts of arguments on this in simracing forums) 😄
You substep physics so that it's not framerate dependent.
Sub stepping is real bad though imo
why?
I thought it was for accuracy in low framerate scenarios
I'm curious how Assetto Corsa Competizione works now that they've switched to Unreal... I think their physics engine in their first title ran at 300hz
Why?
Mushy
lol what
lol
decreasing the delta T for physics increases the stability and accuracy of the numerical integration methods used in games
T as in time
If you try to add forces strongly or have a spike you cannot do this with sub stepping because it linearly interpolates the forces
T as in tuberculosis
You should never have framerate dependent physics.
All it really offers is stabilization by neutralization of forces
Underwater physics for example jonimake it depends on how far you are submerses to calculate the force
I wonder if its possible to simulate the physics of that diving bell accident where the guy got sucked through the hole in it.
With sub stepping you calculate th force based on position and apply 2+ times by halving or more the force over two or more substeps and it mushes things out because it’s no longer relevant to buoyancy but instead it’s just stable and blah
physics dubstepping. Sounds like the best new music around !
Lol damn phone
😄
I should totally be sleeping
me too. Allnighter so the wife can get some rest
Far too complicated for me. I'll just stick with 24 frames per second hand drawn animations...
Allergies been making breathing not proper lol
I have a memory leak after reading the posts from stupid people on my facebook
Summary
Chemist Mickey concocts a super strength potion, called the "Courage Builder", that turns a fly into a fighter, a mouse into a super-mouse, a cat into a ferocious feline, Pluto into an attack dog, and a fire hydrant into a living hydrant.
Mickey Mouse cartoons.
@fathom wadi same, I don't even use facebook
I find it odd that Mickey Mouse has a pet cat that is chasing an a actual mouse in his house...
funny that Whatsapp its from facebook ?
they recommend me people from my phone numbers inside my facebook account and never linked them
Facebook is good if you want to communicate with old people.
it's funny... Facebook was so difficult to cancel the account on, until GDPR... I hadn't logged in for a year after that, and when I did, it just asked "do you accept us ignoring GDPR" and I just clicked no and my account was immediately cancelled 😄
so yay for governments that actually work for the people
The old people that use facebook don't even know how communicate
back to monitors: has anyone moved from S-PVA panel to an IPS? Just wondering about the image quality differences 🤔
I met my wife on facebook so im not gonna complain about it.
I wouldn't want to spend 600 euros on a display and then find out it's shitty compared to my old one 😄
yeah more people told me they meet the current wife of bf or gf at facebook
idk how thats possible but
sure you don't want to replicate it on Twitter lmao
@fluid bloom IPS all day every day. I went the other way around. Used IPS for years but when I went 4K I couldn't find an IPS panel, but deciding that needed 4k and I was gonna sit right in front of the screen, its not been so bad. But I would still replace this monitor for a 4K IPS panel any day
I'm mostly scared about the IPS glow thingy on dark content
doesn't really happen with S-PVA
Cant say I noticed it. But what I do notice is when I am at a slight angle (maybe 30 degrees) and there are obvious colour changes.
okay
I like my VA.
Not sure its that important for game dev but in web dev, it seemed the correct approach to use IPS
I have a VA and an IPS... can't see much difference either
everything else glows once you get an OLED TV 😄
I don't have a clue what type of panel this cheap tv is using.
bedtime for bonzo. have a happy chocolate coffin day folks.
but then again, it took me quite a while to see the difference between 144hz and 60hz too...
If only my CRT had a VGA port... sigh...
@lucid walrus yea I have an LG B7V oled tv next to my desk and it is in its own league really
After buying a CRT monitor for his retro PC, John started to play modern PC games on it... and things escalated from there, culminating in Rich purchasing the classic Sony FW900 - which some say is the best CRT for gaming of all-time. The bottom line here is that modern games ...
I really don't miss the headaches caused by CRTs nor the space requirements 😄
Can't play modern games on my CRT without a VGA port...
I'm going to get an OLED laptop someday.
In Fallout 76: Wastelanders, people are now coming back to West Virginia. Two vying factions are struggling to gain the upper hand as the secrets of West Virginia are revealed. The Settlers have come to find a new home, and the Raiders have come to exploit them. Embark on a ne...

Another Fallout ?
Expansion pack for Fallout 76. Same game.
@north torrent I'm kind of apprehensive of getting an OLED for desktop use 🤔
well is listed as a new game wtf
I haven't seen any 1440 x 3440 OLED monitors.
Maybe in a few years.
I actually would really like a 27 inch 1440 x 1920 4:3 OLED monitor... But something like that will probably never exist.
that looks like my first one
I with there were more aspect ratios for modern monitors...
But I guess I am looking at it more as my artistic canvas than for practical reasons...
But I found a laptop with OLED and HDR, so I will probably just go with that as my next purchase.

Watch out Grandma... here comes a lawnmower !
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Remastered Veteran Walkthrough - Mission 1 - Team Player
"Team Player" is the first mission in Modern Warfare 2 Remastered and follows Private Allen in Afghanistan
A song about lawnmowers and pensioners by the finest band on the planet, Lawnmower Deth..
It's like adobe wants to drive people to piracy. Creative Cloud makes it hard to give them money. Thing is a virus. I've disabled autostartup everywhere I can, set all its services to manual or disabled and still it launches in the background. It keeps causing stutters in UE
there is people still using Adobe ?
I have to keep disabling real-time scanning on Win 10 antivirus cuz it causes stutters on my audio when UE4 is open
I've been using photoshop since before it was photoshop. It's hard to get use to anything else
I use portable versions from ages ago, they probably tried to make that illegal somehow but meh they deserve it
@plucky pagoda see if you can uninstall the akamai stuff if its still there. That was the culprit for me.
I've been using CS6 forever but was wanting some of the features from CC
I used Paint Shop Pro before PSD 😄
It's crazy it still starts up after all I've done.
Autodesk is almost as bad. I like Maya for animating but all the validation stuff it installs makes it a pita.
They're like Hetfield and Ulrich
I'm about unlock a life challenge: Make and release alone a game and engine changes while in world quarantine.
Im actually okay with a service model if its not a big squeeze and at the cost of the softwares quality. It'd be great if that extra money went into making things better but generally speaking the software quality gets worse after they realise running a service model costs more than they expected.
inserts a Bob Rock to mellow it out
If they maybe realised letting people opt out of the service model is a better way to reduce overheads than cutting budgets.
I care less about the model than all the drm that comes with it especially when it interferes with the performance of other programs
Someone pirating it gets a better running copy, that's not good for anyone.
//end rant
I think most people feel that way, they just want the optimal experience and being railroaded into running a specific background service is hardly ideal. Way I see it is its my computer and I should be able to choose what I run on it, if you were leasing me hardware thats alittle different.
I have similar feelings. I hate where things have gone with software and especially how fast it happened. Windows is another example where it's now a "service" If there's one place that model is problematic it's with an OS
They used fear to control people, as more people got switched on it was easy to exploit the masses with fake fear over hackers, viruses etc
When the truth of it is very few individuals are worth a hackers time, scammers are more likely and they just blast the area from orbit so its hardly targeted most of the time.
Like really, what you gonna do reset my solitare scores, shakin in my boots over here
I have really enjoyed windows 10 tbh. I haven't had any of the problems other people have, but perhaps that it because I legit bought it and didn't use the free upgrade from the dodgy copy of win7 I used to run
Nah, I saw guys in the headends back in the day scanning the entire net for exploits and installing bots. Everyone's at risk with as many people there are out there running scanners and scripts.
Torrenting probably did more to curb the number of people running bot nets than anything else since most of them were running IRC bots with pirated movies and music.
I dont touch Win10 anymore, if you try to turn off defender and windows store entirely it breaks. Its not a bad OS apart from that crap, if I wanted a sandbox Id ask for one, all it does is slow everything down
UAC is fine, scanning my downloads folder is fine but separating shit out into different memory on the fly is how you fragment memory
I'm okay with UAC. I do dislike that you have to buy pro for some of the group policy editing when the defaults are problematic. People should have more control over what their OS does.
I have 32gb ram that doesn't get utilized fully, so fragmented memory isn't my main concern. I turned off Cortana and some of that deep search stuff and its been fine
I've done the same. They don't make it easy though
At least not until recent updates. I think you can turn off Cortana without editing group policy now.
I have 32GB of RAM and it doesnt get used but fragmentation can still slow you down well before youre at max
ok quick topic switch as its trending a little, but #RIPFortnite is the new "im entitled and im gonna complain" meme hitting the internet. Apparently the pro nerds are complaining because noobs beat them now or something. They want a competitive sport out of it, but look at the game... its all about who builds the best, and they want all this crap like shield bubbles and whatnot. So they say the game is dead now. I mean... is it true? Is the free money train from these peons really over for Epic? 😮
I get why they are trying to help but there does need to be an opt out for home users especially. I mean the amount of data I send out to the cloud is more vulnerable than any exploit you find on my PC
lol do they know a noob can beat you in most competitive sports through natural talent
The main reason I never played it much was seeing all the crazy fast building button combos or macros they used. But the few times I played it I made it to the top without it.
They want every sport to be chess but that aint happenin
I don't have time for something that you have to play 8 hours a day to get to the top. I've been there and not going back.
yeah I played my share of fortnite and never felt it was competition worthy. Its too exploitable. I mean, you can look around corners and into houses in third person for starters, and whoever builds first wins.
thing I dont like is all you have to do is train the current winning meta, thats why they dont like it when the meta changes
exactly. They dont like to adapt
I prefer to play games which allow a combination of strategies
It happens alot with sequels too, people want the new game to be the same as the last one so they dont have to learn anything new which goes counter to the point of having a new product IMO
Nice. All it took was getting some sleep. Got the big map running smooth with no pops and LODs all working
I remember when Fortnite was all shotguns. It was so overpowered that if you didn't have one, you automatically lost a fight against someone who did.
computer needed a rest 😛
Every game that has rockets and shotguns... people complain about both
Is there a way to make the spline become visible? I tried to set the visibility to true and the hidden in game to false, but no luck.
Its because the sniper and pistol aim meta isnt as strong when those weapons are in the mix, so they complain until they get nerfed beyond useful
People dont seem to understand a close range blast from a shotty is OP but so is camping up on a hill with a sniper
IF you can hit with the sniper rifle.
@rose edge its not meant to be visible. It has a visualizer in the editor.
Or the sniper you are camping with can hit with his rifle.
Its why snipers are so valuable in war, they can take out entire squads, typical K:D for a good sniper is much higher than your guys with trenchguns, theyre fodder
There's an option to show it in game. It might be called debug draw or something. I'd have to look.
Yes, but it is exactly what I wanted. The splines are shit/
no you are using them in a shit manner
they could use some work on forking but aside from that, they are just what they are supposed to be
No, they cant even use custom materials and they all twist and turn all weirdly.
check out Zak's spline road tool
Is the mesh youre using along the spline tilted at an odd angle by default?
I followed this thingØ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKIiWa19EMI
We continue to look at splines and their many uses in this episode. Spline meshes allow you to procedurally create meshes such as pipes, wires, and roads easily in engine. We look at two types here: ones with a flexible section length, and ones with fixed length sections.
Sup...
It was, but I fixed that.
Still no material applied.
ahh cool, yeah it needs to be an extrusion profile
And some of the spline mesh components didnt materialize.
I think you might need to cache the spline mesh components into an array, then set the material on those cached versions
Very happy now. If I can get a map this size working fine that should mean I can scale it up quite a bit without issue.
I can try that, @pearl elk
