I have a question - I've been learning quite a bit about UE4, have worked through several tutorials, including this Udemy one I'm halfway through (on lesson 117). The issue is, however, what I would like to build in UE4 isn't exactly a "game" as such, it's more of a "menu". It's to be used internally for some people in my work group. Basically, I'd like to have a top navigation to where different categories can be selected, and then based on the selection, different options to select appear in the main window. Fairly simplistic, really.
Can anyone point me towards a proper tutorial for that type of project? I've done a couple "build a menu for your game" tutorials in UE4 I found on YouTube but they were only loosely relevant.

I think part of designing good outdoor environments is having an understanding of geology and biomes. I don't think you can just fake it and randomly place things down where they look pretty. I think you have to take into account how rocks affect the water flow and why certain trees grow here while other plants grow there.

I wonder how youd do that with motion controls, sounds slow and clunky

theres mice with extra axis on em too, at one stage I had a 7 axis gamepad
I really loved that cuz it had like a remote control car throttle on it, was so easy to drive
slider had a whole lot more range to it because up and down were seperated
analog buttons are a thing we just typically design for the lowest common denominator, well in the non VR space we do
pretty sure most games are designed for 2 or 3 button mice even though its common to have 5 or more

Yeah. Any game that has stuff bound to the arrow keys I have bound to the 4 buttons at the bottom back, so G15, G16, G18 and G19. I had actually mapped all 12 side keys in Overwatch to activate each spray, voice line and emote at one point, then I changed some around and tend to make G9 crouch in most games

Ive got the g500s so I have 3 on the side, barely use em though cuz I roll with default binds most the time

I have it setup to switch between perspectives in Unreal and have Ctrl and Alt mapped as well for easy one handed blueprint editing

Thing is if I remap g for grenade in one game guaranteed someone puts in on left ctrl, f or somethin else in another
be nice if we had some sort of function mapping so we could say grenade is always this on my setup

I map middle mouse click to the ring finger button and use that as melee in games
If I ever want to use G-shift I'll map it to G8 and only use it for more obscure things that aren't too important. I actually have the perspectives in Unreal setup this way
It's just really convenient and I can't see myself using a mouse with less buttons after having used this for a few years now
It's also great for any game where you could use a macro to speed things up or to prevent you from repeating a ton of tasks. Lots of buttons to put macros on

just looking at my bindings atm, for some reason g14 is Shift+W. And I just discovered that pressing the middle scrollwheel sideways is a back/forward

issue I have on xbox one controller is that my hands are too close to all triggers and buttons
have to bend fingers in weird positions
I use shoulder buttons at the first/middle part of my finger as using it with fingertips would be awkward

Using the third button as middle mouse, I use it probably more than right click outside of games
I'll often use it to scroll instead of the scroll wheel
There's just so much stuff middle mouse button does which makes it worth having it on a ring finger button. Like opening links in a new tab and even closing tabs without needing to click on the little x

@rose edge I tend to use the log alot if I want to debug construction script, can drag an actor into the map and just drag it to run it. Crashes though umm, not easy, perhaps dont create a crash bug ๐
