@neon iris Heyyy, thanks for the heads up! I was wondering if they were still doing that since they did the online talks this week.

You can get a full refund

Supposedly

signal citrus

eh kinda in matheww's boat too. would rather let it ride

quiet narwhal

full refund and pay whatever price next year or no refund, get august for free, and next year is paid for

bronze axle

Everything's still up in the air. I'm surprised GDC announced the summer event so soon, but I'm sure they're well informed enough to know the feasibility of doing so.

hollow zephyr
#

I might be able to get back to you all within the week, but, as a personal suggestion, the outcome of corona and the impact it has on us in the next couple of months to a year is very much unknown

neon iris
#

Uh huh 😜

quiet narwhal
#

I think they kinda had to announce it since they commited to refunds. This is a way to keep part of that money still

bronze axle
#

What Victor said. Don't expect this to blow over in a few weeks.

quiet narwhal
#

yep with schools dead for the rest of this school year I am bracing for the worst

hollow zephyr
#

I'm going to run out of cheese and veggie sausages soon 😦

bronze axle

Even if the worst did somehow blow over in a few weeks, the lasting impact will linger for several months, and we could see more spikes in the future until a vaccine is developed.

signal citrus

well 6 months is probably as far as they could have pushed it

#

Holiday GDC would be cool tho

#

Why is there not a holiday gdc?

neon iris
#

For whatever the reason, meat produce have been bought out. Veggies are still fine though

hollow zephyr

Oh instead of winter celebrations? I'd take that every year over the traditional ones

I think most people are too busy with holiday traditions for a holiday conference to be feasible.

I saw a Twitter post from them about Paulo discussing localization tools. Was confused.

I'm sure they'll let us know when they're ready.

I hope you can reschedule the audio stream soon.

hollow zephyr

Yes, we should be able to do that one soon. I've had to toss around my schedule quite a bit.

Indeed. πŸ™‚

fathom wadi

I get that a lot with online casinos. Often the apps are utter crap. Slow and painful to use. So I always goto the web equivalent. Where its still crap because its on a mobile. Did I ever mention mobiles suck and I hate them?

pearl elk

fathom wadi

tulip orbit
#

grr... sent pre-alpha of my game to a friend this afternoon. Im having to pry the review out of him... dont know if thats a good sign or not

deep glen
#

friends generally arent the best reviewers

fathom wadi
#

dont worry about it. Be glad he's giving it the respect of even taking it. Hes probably sick to death of you talking about it already :p

tulip orbit
#

no, but he's one of two patrons I have. Its not even itch.io ready, so how do I get a few ppl to try it? Not like I can spam this channel looking for testers

fathom wadi
#

I worked on a game with a friend and I barely played it. When he released it, I played it for an hour out of respect. But yeah. Friends dont make the best reviewers, especially because they will either criticise you worse than online, because mates, or they will lie, because mates.

#

I couldn't really criticise the game I worked on because of the effort that went into getting to release with no money and only a few outsourced people. For all it's downsides, he shipped it with over 100 levels. The work involved was ridiculous, and he wasn't even a programmer

tulip orbit
#

I think i'd prefer rougher criticism than lying... I'm not going to improve by being told I'm already awesome

fathom wadi
#

yeah you can never hurt me with the truth. I need it to learn and get better. Perspective doesn't come from one's self in all cases. Often you must respect the perspective of another to enforce your belief in your own, or see it for it's flaws.

reading that back, it sounded a little zen tbh. Probably should get some sleep

alpine fern

videos almost look like people are floating now

signal citrus

pearl elk

the glory kills were harder to engage in the other one

this one you just smash the keyboard and you'll do one

#

It makes sense its abit more chaotic given the theme but this aint chess anymore

alpine fern
#

the last one was epic so I was hoping for more levels of exactly the same with better graphics

pearl elk
#

Ive only played about 10mins so far but its not more of the same

#

the weapons are all different, far larger spreads

#

take heaps more damage too, health is basically worthless cuz it drops so quick

#

glory kill and boop, health back up

#

they shoulda tweaked the drop rates not fuck with damages

signal citrus
#

too hard

pearl elk
#

too hard to make it so its not dropping rocket ammo for you when you still got a starter gun

#

ammo max is fuckin shocking to start with, its like high noob slayer you didnt do shit last game

signal citrus
#

lol health button easier

pearl elk
#

Im sure its gonna be fun, just not as innovative and fresh

#

how to turn off this damn 30fps cap though

#

ahhah there it is, vsync

signal citrus
#

yeah idk, fresh is a good way of putting it. the 2016 one just kinda was like: your doom guy and your really mad and angry with your interactions on most everything

pearl elk
#

yeah it was a fresh take on Doom, not super innovative but it was in terms of pushing the franchise forward

signal citrus
#

felt a lot more like how people would explain doom being after hearing from a friend i think is what bothered me.

pearl elk
#

I felt like what they added really fit with the franchise, the mantle, double jump n stuff

#

and I played Doom straight out of the gate too, none of this nostalgia bubble stuff

#

We actually had modified DM maps pretty early on we played on LAN, the adults organised it and let us kids play most of the day

signal citrus
#

Yeah I dunno. Your probably right. Hard to say what they focused on in the first dooms kinda beyond just making something cool.

pearl elk
#

I feel like lots of people like Doom for the same reason so many people love 70s rock music, because theyre told to

#

I never had that, no one had to tell me to play Doom cuz its the dawn of a genre cuz I was there every step of the way πŸ™‚

#

Maybe Valve can use ID Tech to make a HL3 hehe

signal citrus
#

I think the thing that bugs me is that its dumber than doom was in a lot of ways.

#

Its more metal and not scary.

pearl elk
#

Doom was never really very scary tbh

#

I think Doom 3 took it too Resident Evil, it was always an action shooter

signal citrus
#

None of these had you using hands to pull things apart and feed them to itselve

pearl elk
#

They tried to make it scary I suppose but they did a better job of that in Quake

#

huh, hands

#

I mean really if Doom went full nightmare itd just get banned

#

Im not sure where this idea of dumbness comes from though, 2016 had far more Z axis play and challenged me more mentally. The originals were just obscure mazes I randomly found my way through, its not like they required more skill

#

Either game has the potential for high skill, you just dont need it to beat any of them

signal citrus
#

wasn't speaking towards skill really but just the comedic take on gruesome violence that brutal doom took seem to be the same route Bethesda designated.

#

it feels a lot more duke than doom to me i guess, but then its hell on mars etc

pearl elk
#

Yeah I suppose it is less serious than the original but I think that tone of comedy works good with the senseless violence, Dukes comedy is abit dated now though and comes across as misogynistic. Shadow Warriors humour some how dated better than Dukes

neon iris
#

Had to double check if it was sfw. Guess that speaks for itself 😜

signal citrus
#

Whole franchise is a dumpster fire lol

#

Just mentioned it because when duke nukem 3D came out right around when quake did, it was the first to really go for pure shock factor as feature. Doom 16 is just kinda orchestrated death after comically orchestrated death

@tulip orbit

Not really true (I mean yeah donating that much is just retarded) , from the stuff I watched she is one of the rare down to earth streamers. Not every female streamer needs to be "slutty" or whatever to be successful

50% of people watching her are 12yo but that's unavailable

I heard she used to be a cam model, I think i saw the pics once

guaranteed 90% of the people who send her money are cause she's hot

@deep glen happened to me with my first DVD burner. Bought it to backup 4 years of work. It managed to confuse something so bad, it made my hard disk drive arm shatter the disk. I still have it. It jingles when I shake it πŸ˜„

I have like 5 to 10 drives sitting around with probably 10 to 20 TB of stuff going back 20+ years I really need to do something about.

holy crap... zip drives

yeah it was the only way to use the college network to download and they had a 35mb line back when 28.8 was still normal

plucky pagoda

My dad had one of the first camcorders. It was two backpacks one for the battery and one for what was basically a vcr and then a cable that ran to the camera. He recorded every flight they would allow him to from like 1977 on.

plucky pagoda
#

I buy, but like to have backups in case

#

When I was younger maybe but today I only keep stuff I also have a legal copy I own. It was all the classes with people who make money from Copyrights though that made me change how I felt about it.

#

I have mixed feelings about piracy of intangibles. Like when I was younger and couldn't have afforded it, I don't begrudge people like that doing stuff. But today when I can afford to pay for stuff I feel like I should.

fathom wadi
#

I buy legit software for work, have to really. If I could avoid it, I would. More money for the kids to spend on toilet roll and facial masks.

IDK, I've stopped using Photoshop because I don't want to pay the monthly even though I could install CS6 and get away with it.

#

And it would make life easier for me to do that.

fathom wadi
#

yeah I do miss photoshop but I ain't buying any Adobe products again. Whoever I work for can pay for it.

plucky pagoda
#

Paid for a 3 license copy of office 2010 and still occasionally install it.

#

yeah. I really hate the whole subscription model. They were one of the first big dogs to make a push in that direction

#

even though it's become somewhat more reasonable I don't like it. If there's a perpetual option along side a subscription it doesn't bother me as much.

fathom wadi
#

I have a copy of Flash 7. Cost me Β£550, and 1 month later they released Flash 8, which enabled video support, which meant everyone had to upgrade because it was the start of modern video streaming on the net, even though they tried to sell it with a server (Flash Communications Server, or as I called it, pointless because it does nothing you can't do for free)

plucky pagoda
#

That's harsh.

#

At least now must companies let you upgrade if it's within a year.

fathom wadi
#

yeah they did offer to upgrade me for a Β£199 iirc. But I wasn't paying again, I was a broke student. So I just trialled it for a few years :p

#

To be fair, I am from the UK so I would ask a doctor to fix my spleen for free :p

plucky pagoda
#

It's amazing how all the things that seem like they have to be done now here were evil socialism last week.

#

They're forgiving student loan interest temporarily. Talking about forgiving 10k of loans per person.

#

Handing out cash to anyone with less than 70k annual income

#

We are under the 140k limit for married couples so getting 3,900 under the current plan.

fathom wadi
#

Yeah the new world is actually a socialist one, that hates itself because they know that in socialism they can have their true control system in place. Im a classic capitalist myself. Modern day neo-capitalism doesn't suit my morality

plucky pagoda
#

I don't think unhindered capitalism can work in the modern world. There has to be accountability and we have to make conscious decisions about what kind of world we want.

#

Like here, fracking is way out of control because there's no need to prove it's safe first.

#

It's causing earthquakes and threatening many of our aquifers.

fathom wadi
#

yeah thats why I say classic capitalism. The modern trickle down is too little and the greedy gits are scooping up any extra they can get at any opportunity, which makes socialism sound nicer by the moment, but there is truth in all ideologies, we just have to do a mash-up and get the best version

plucky pagoda
#

Something that can effect society on such a large scale should have to first prove it doesn't harm society.

We had a fight against fracking in my town. It caused earthquakes and after 2 years or so, they were forced to leave. But the amount of abuse I took for being anti-fracking was silly. Even though the companies hired private security, who then assaulted a woman in a wheelchair who was protesting. Cuadrilla are arseholes.

plucky pagoda
#

Yeah. It's kind of the natural progression though. Ultimately capitalism results in mergers and a consolidation of industries.

#

The fracking thing is nuts.

fathom wadi
#

Im fine with it if they do the correct safety procedures, but its a corporation. They care about profits, not safety.

plucky pagoda
#

Just how large scale it is

#

That's the big issue, scale. The scale is so large for so many things that it adds up. The city I live in depends on a few Aquifers.

#

Ohio has a big fracking problem but because of how large the state is and how much of it is just open fields it's out of sight for most people.

junior tide

solar nebula

@plucky pagoda You do have a point though, from my point of view - I'm fine with using any names for people, as long as they really commit to those names

#

E.g. less of a nickname and more of a psuedonym

#

Though that being said, I'm planning to normalize my legal name so I will just use what was my psuedonym for it xD

#

Then nobody will have an excuse to keep using my legal name outside of legal contexts

plucky pagoda
#

Yeah, I'm not saying that's bad. But if you did a kickstarter you should still put some kind of legal name or business entity name on it. It's cheap to register a fictitious name.

Is it only me or is there anybody else who thinks that Unreal Slacker is one of the worst things that happened to community around technical questions. It is really great for chatting about unreal but terrible when you want to ask something and let that thread be accessible for future searchers. Questions and answers are almost immediately lost when asked or answered.

solar nebula
#

I prefer realtime conversation strongly over slower forum based system

fathom wadi

you can search discord messages btw. they are all public. Its just theres bad search engines for it right now

solar nebula
#

But threads are not incompatible with realtime conversation

spring warren
#

Would it help if there was system like current forum, just with realtime replies?

#

Something like discord but channels would actually be individual questions

solar nebula
#

I'm going to answer questions in any format and in any media that permits me realtime freeform conversation

fathom wadi
#

linking answers to questions like stackoverflow would give it some searchability, with the ability to update in a threaded sense later on. But its just down to the search engine. It's coming, don't doubt that, but the amount of discord to traverse requires a hell of a search engine

solar nebula

We're doing worse than Italy. The numbers are going up faster than they did in Italy. Part of it is artificial since we weren't testing before and still are under testing but the curve is bad for the US. But today we surpassed where Italy was 5 days ago in number of confirmed cases.

Projections for the US were close to 2 million deaths a few weeks ago and that presumed a better situation than what we have today.

pearl elk
#

so a positive could turn to a negative or vice versa

plucky pagoda
#

I wish people would just stay home. We could still change what it's like 3 weeks from now.

pearl elk
#

my cousins probably gonna get it, she decided to go to the US on her trip and has been out and about sight seeing

#

but shes a flight attendant not a genius

plucky pagoda
#

My wife's work is making about 150k tests but they can only process 470 a day.

bronze axle
#

Razer is helping out too, believe it or not.

plucky pagoda
#

Nice.

bronze axle
#

A lot of people are trying to pitch in.

pearl elk
#

oh cool, Razer mask would be good for raves, might get some

plucky pagoda
#

Yeah. There's still a chance to turn it around.

bronze axle
#

Which is heartening to see. The more people take it seriously, the sooner we can get through the worst of it.

plucky pagoda
#

But not much time to do it.

pearl elk
#

are they RGB masks? πŸ˜›

bronze axle
#

lol

plucky pagoda
#

Yes!!!

#

We need that.

#

Make isolation cool again!

pearl elk
#

its all happenin on tiktok

bronze axle
#

The game industry will only continue to surge thanks to this.

plucky pagoda
#

For a little bit.

#

But then the economic hardship kicks in.

pearl elk
#

well once we have mapped coronavirus we can engineer a better one for the next surge πŸ™‚

plucky pagoda
#

The thing I'm must hopeful about is the antibody tests being produced now.

pearl elk
#

Im actually surprised the internets held up, was waiting for something to fall over in a big way

bronze axle
#

Streaming services are reducing quality across the board in Europe to keep from buckling.

plucky pagoda
#

wow.

#

"To increase access to reliable information, WHO has partnered with WhatsApp
and Facebook to launch a WHO Health Alert messaging service. This service
will provide the latest news and information on COVID-19, including details on
symptoms and how people can protect themselves. The Health Alert service is
now available in English and will be introduced in other languages next week.
To access it, send the word "hi" to the following number on WhatsApp: +41
798 931 892."

#

wow, about the reducing services. Sorry about the scroll.

pearl elk
#

I keep getting updates from some US senator, think its phishing but gah I dont care guy πŸ˜›

bronze axle
#

Honestly, I think the last thing any average citizen needs is a constant drip feed of the latest COVID-19 news. That's where panic and anxiety come from.

plucky pagoda
#

Yeah, you're right. I just wish everyone would take it seriously. I know I need to try and back off myself. I'm a news addict on a good day.

pearl elk
#

my Facebook feed is mostly virus

bronze axle
#

It's difficult to find the sweet spot, unfortunately. Many people are reacting in extremes; they either don't care at all or they're hysterical.

#

When really we should be somewhere in the middle. Preparation, not panic. Awareness, not hysteria.

plucky pagoda
#

Over isolation would be fine. I'd rather they over act by enforcing a nationwide shutdown to reduce the numbers than under act.

bronze axle
#

Listen to the experts, get out of there way, do what you can do help your community, hunker down, and take care of yourself and your loved ones.

#

A nationwide shutdown could be too drastic, depending on what that shutdown entails.

plucky pagoda
#

The thing is we don't know if it is or isn't without testing we don't have.

bronze axle
#

Especially because the needs are different across states.

#

Yeah, we need to sort out the testing situation for sure. South Korea is a tiny country and they were testing 10K citizens a day at one point. We're still in the hundreds last I checked.

#

But I've read about several efforts to accelerate that.

plucky pagoda
#

Yeah, the number is crazy small. In Ohio they only test health care workers or someone who is being admitted to the hospital right now.

#

If we can get antibody tests out in massive quantities we can test everyone and start isolating only the people we have to.

#

We'll also know for sure whose already been through it and is now likely immune.

bronze axle
#

In Oregon you need to match a variety of criteria. I've read at least one anecdote of a woman who's husband is immunocompromised, came down with a sudden fever, and they refused to test him. It's not the hospital's fault, unfortunately. They want to test people, but they don't yet have the resources. It sounds so frustrating for them.

plucky pagoda
#

YEah. They just don't have the tests or in some cases enough PPE.

bronze axle
#

Indeed.

#

I'm still heartened by the Italian spirit. I love watching videos of Italian people singing to each other from their balconies, having a blast in the face of adversity.

pearl elk
#

I saw one from Spain with a guy in a hazmat suit dancing to dnb

#

he's just out there in the square alone with everyone on the balconies watching cheering him on

bronze axle
#

Hah, wow.

#

It's crazy to think about this, but the data seems to indicate that the economic impact from the quarantines could be far worse than that of the virus itself.

#

That seems to be where the real, lasting damage lies.

pearl elk
#

That was my concern, unfortunately lots of governments are big bulky machines and not very agile

bronze axle
#

And that's not to make light of the virus at all, which puts things into perspective.

plucky pagoda
#

Yeah. It's going to hurt low wage earners and people who work for tips the most. Since a lot of them work under the table I have no idea how that affects their unemployment options.

pearl elk
#

I do agree with the sentiment about big business not needing bailouts, they surely could have afforded to make a rainy day fund but instead pay their upper management extravagant amounts.

plucky pagoda
#

bah, I need to get some work done.

bronze axle
#

Me too. πŸ˜…

#

Chugging away at some updates for Slackers while I hunker down.

deep glen
plucky pagoda
#

Wow seeing a Tokyo subway with that kind of space between people is mind bending.

#

But I'm kinda surprised by how crowded the streets are in that video.

novel latch
#

0.0008% in tokyo are affected πŸ€”

plucky pagoda
#

They probably have tests.

novel latch
#

they either know how to wash their hands or these numbers are fake

plucky pagoda
#

I mean I have no idea.

pearl elk
#

I kinda hope things stay abit more like this forever now hehe, I hate crowds

novel latch
#

in my small city, people are still ignorant and don't give cashiers their 2 meter space

pearl elk
#

I swear windows wants to update just to reset all my settings all the time. Real-time scanning, sticky keys grrr

#

Do not want!

#

Not even sure why I need their sandbox since I use approximately 2 apps from the MS store

plucky pagoda
#

The Carrion demo was a lot of fun.

#

Kinda reminded me of Dead Cells if you played as the cell the whole time though.

pearl elk
#

Im convinced ID is in a perfect position to do another Quake SP game

signal citrus
#

nah

#

oof i feel like i should stay out of these topics lol

#

did they bring snap map back with new doom 2?

pearl elk
#

yeah you should probably be enjoying their games to be commenting on what you'd like em to do πŸ™‚

#

Its weird this Doom actually reminds me abit of UT3

lusty elk
#

looked like a mobile game to me

signal citrus
#

Its super possible that the tech of their old games is what i liked about them

pearl elk
#

their tech is still pretty awesome, I think I prefer they are owned by Zenimax rather than Activision

signal citrus
#

mundane

pearl elk
#

Well it was one or the other, they couldnt afford to stay indie

signal citrus
#

i barely associate them with what they used to be now anyways

#

wasnt all bethesda though

#

doom 3 was boring, great tech and great mod sdk but didn't get much mod support because hl2 was so much better to work with

pearl elk
#

yeah well no company is what they used to be anymore

signal citrus
#

then they just gave up with rage on a mod community

pearl elk
#

the game didnt really do so well, not in comparison to what they needed it to be. Fallout 3 was far more popular

signal citrus
#

I think it had good timing to support a transfer of mod community though. They said the compute power required to do anything with all the mega texturing was the reason why but this is the case with every other new title from id

pearl elk
#

I was waiting 6 months post release to even play Rage without the megatexture glitch

signal citrus
#

bethesda knows fun for sure. they let you drive a horse up a mountain sideways

pearl elk
#

the ID tech games are less buggy for me than other Bethesda games so Im thankful about that

#

Fallout 3 was a mess to me but zomg open world everyone loved it

signal citrus
#

well i'd prefer fun over less buggy but id has this special place where i don't expect gameplay from them haha

#

i expect some kind of new expression or something

pearl elk
#

their guns are still some of the best in the biz IMO, they feel weighty

signal citrus
#

whos?

pearl elk
#

ID

signal citrus
#

have you tried quake champions?

pearl elk
#

theyve always had this knack for weapons even if they arnt balanced perfectly to 0.0000001

#

I cant play it, theres no offline mode

signal citrus
#

yeah i mean give id a multiplayer connection and expect something fun, unless its doom 3

#

with doom 16 it was halo

pearl elk
#

I actually liked Doom 3s MP, it was small but the lighting made it fun

signal citrus
#

it was fun still

pearl elk
#

people just out grew DM

signal citrus
#

see i've played doom 3's mp like 4 times maybe

#

4 player flashlight party was their way of saying: wow look at our lighting

#

quake champions nails everything

#

the only thing that would make it feel more like an id game is if it had less fanfare and progressions systems etc / character powerups

pearl elk
#

remember the end level screen in Doom?

signal citrus
#

yeah

pearl elk
#

its still there now, theyve added to it but its still similar to the old one

#

I just feel like with what theyve done thematically in this Doom they could easily do a Q2/4 sequel

signal citrus
#

though

#

I mean they could

#

would it not just end up being more glory kills and angry interactions with the world / usb drives

pearl elk
#

berserk was always a Doom thing so I dont think so, Quake could go a different direction

signal citrus
#

Would like to see a real attempt at quake 1

#

slipgate stuff

pearl elk
#

Quake 1 would be closer to QC thematically so I suppose they could do it, Ranger is in there

signal citrus
#

quake 2 is well represented in qc too

#

strog is there, female grunt

pearl elk
#

Yeah I dunno I feel like Doom is closer to Q2

#

its metal gothic not all clay gothic

#

different palettes, Q1 was pretty limited by the tech though thats why

signal citrus
#

you need nine inch nails to do a proper quake reboot

#

q1 was limited by a lot more than pallet lol

pearl elk
#

but the palette in Q1 was more browns and dark greens, less greys

signal citrus
#

"in this room there is a stairway with buttons"

pearl elk
#

yes well you could copy all the shocking UV mapping cuz there was like 0 tools for it

signal citrus
#

Q2 wasn't much different

pearl elk
#

Q2 atleast could use a full 256 though

signal citrus
#

they both did

pearl elk
#

well it must come down more to the art style itself then because they are completely different games

signal citrus
pearl elk
#

yeah I thought it was a larger set of colours

#

same palette just some tricky

signal citrus
#

ye

#

when you think of half life

#

"lets take this quake thing, bring it to c++, then local color pallets, oh and computer voices"

pearl elk
#

skeletal animation

signal citrus
#

given it took awhile, can't think of what the equivilant to that would look like today

#

not till hl2

#

well

#

your right

pearl elk
#

yeah I know what you mean

signal citrus
#

its just not vertex skinned to skeleton lol

#

haha yeah lol

#

the skeleton animations are there, but they aren't what you see

#

its a weird way to think about it

#

but yeah guns in hands

pearl elk
#

its because skinning was still in its infancy

signal citrus
#

yeah

#

it was smart too

#

tbh thinking about it now

#

i wonder how hitboxes worked in quake

#

in hl1 it uses the calculated skeleton

#

i bet quake its just a single box

pearl elk
#

I hate collision boxes, so janky

#

thats why when you play Q4 alot of things are curved

#

its to stop people getting hung up on sharp edges

signal citrus
#

I couldn't go through with quake 4 lol

pearl elk
#

I hated the raycast on the turning wheels in UT3, it screwed the vehicle physics pretty hard

#

I get why they were trying to optimise it but it really hurts things because youre expecting your wheels to dig in and catch when they dont so you compensate naturally then get screwed

signal citrus
#

I didn't have good enough computer for UT3

#

When i got one, there was like no one playing it

#

so i'm not sure what you mean by that

pearl elk
#

you can still give it a go, play with shitty bots πŸ˜›

#

the raycast collision is basically a solid version of the vehicle so the turning wheels collision dont turn they just collide in their default pose

signal citrus
#

lol weird

pearl elk
#

yeah it is, the handling feels abit odd but Epic made those vehicles crazy arcade like anyway

#

no where near as bad as vehicles in Q4 and Quake Wars though omg lol

#

mind you the jumpjets were alright once you got used to em, I used to clean up with those

signal citrus
#

Lol

pearl elk
#

must admit thats one of my favourite parts of Doom 2016 is that its so unapologetically FPS

#

its not like oh here we feel sorry for you, have a rest, have a turret section

#

none of that creepy past the guards shit either

signal citrus
#

Eh I lost interest in it pretty quick

#

Multiplayer was fun though

pearl elk
#

I cant even play the original Doom anymore so its nice to have one to play πŸ˜›

#

I like the z axis in the 2016 MP, I do get where ID was coming from in saying that it was disconnected to the SP

#

it had some issues too with the monster modes with being able to lock down the map

zinc matrix
#

Nice

carmine frigate
#

yea, how bizar becomes the new normal real fast

pearl elk
#

Do you mean bizarre?

novel latch
#

(why am I in jojo reference mood lately)

zinc matrix
#

i feel like the new console gens are better than my 3700x, 2070s, 32gb ram, 500w pus COMPUTER - please help my mind

glad parrot
fathom wadi
#

@zinc matrix they are. But consoles always project tech like this. Then by the time they are released, PC has caught up and they look kind of crap in comparison

zinc matrix
#

@fathom wadi my pc won't catch up.

#

how would it catch up?

carmine frigate
#

ehm next console still needs to catch up

#

its not here yet

pearl elk
#

no need to buy the Xbox theres nothing it'll have you cant get elsewhere

carmine frigate
#

ur kinda stupid to get a ps5 when the ps6 is also on the way

pearl elk
#

well both have said they'll have mid gen upgrades again like previous gen

#

so theyre more like upgrades

#

trade in your PS4 Pro or XBOX and get x amount off our next thing which is only a few teraflops faster than our last thing

fathom wadi
#

@zinc matrix you upgrade obviously.

carmine frigate
#

and they dont have a 3700x

#

so thats gunna last another gen

fringe sundial
#

this time is a bit different

soft night
#

no need to get playstation there is nothng interesting

fringe sundial
#

when ps4 was released, it was at the level of medium range pcs

#

and on cpu wise, it was at the range of low end pcs

#

this time, xbox series x is faster than 99% of gaming pcs

soft night
#

seems ps5 got small boost from ps4

fringe sundial
#

and there literally arent any pcs with the SSD performance of either xbox or ps5

#

because they have hardware decompression and stuff

pearl elk
#

The new PCIE 4 drives are pretty damn fast

fringe sundial
#

yes, but you dont have the hardware decompressors

carmine frigate
#

we have raid πŸ˜›

fringe sundial
#

and then you peg your cpu cores to loading

#

another issue is driver and windows having much more overhead

soft night
#

ps5 have that internal drive smaller than 1TB

fringe sundial
#

on the xbox, 7 cores are for the game, at 100%

pearl elk
#

main thing turning me off the new Xbox is the memory and the proprietary drives. The PS5 seems to offer better while being slightly slower graphics

fringe sundial
#

not the case on pc

#

look at how far ps4 is taken with such a garbage cpu

carmine frigate
#

mweh overhead on windows ...

fringe sundial
#

cpu on consoles tends to be about x2 of what it should be

#

due to no overheads + fixed cores, allowing more advanced multithreading on engines

pearl elk
#

yeah MS does purposefully gimp Windows to make Xbox look better

fringe sundial
#

the thing is.... there isnt anything in the market that is x2 of the xbox or ps5

#

in number of cores, yes

#

the 16 core ryzen

#

but not in singlecore

soft night
#

well thing is that xbox and windows have same core

carmine frigate
#

yea but they aint out yet πŸ˜›

pearl elk
#

fixed hardware, lets face it beta testing consoles is cheaper

fringe sundial
#

@soft night the xbox doesnt run background apps

#

it has 1 core for OS stuff

#

and 7 cores are 100% for the devs

#

absolute 100%, the OS will never touch them

#

in windows it will give power to background apps

#

like spotify, discord, or chrome

#

and will move your threads a lot

pearl elk
#

dont forget hardware audio

fringe sundial
#

yeah on ps5

#

but thats not that much of a problem i think

#

problem is the loading part, and cpu

pearl elk
#

not a problem its a boost to performance when CPU load can make your sound all choppy

fringe sundial
#

the hardware audio on ps5 is about lots of sounds + hrtf

#

you can just do... less concurrent sounds

#

and no hrtf

#

its not hard to scale it

#

on this gen of consoles, i expect the "proper" next gen games to leave PC behind

#

for a while

#

until pc catches up as allways

pearl elk
#

is on PC when you got 50 apps all trying to access your audio device at once πŸ˜›

soft night
#

50apps well you can configure it

fringe sundial
#

another problem is that on console you can use mesh shaders and vrs as "default" path

#

and those give some sweet gains

carmine frigate
#

anything other than windows update never drops my frames

soft night
#

DirectX 12 Ultimate is awesome

zinc matrix
#

@fathom wadi i already upgraded?!

fringe sundial
#

@carmine frigate because current games are designed around console cpus

#

so PCs are hilariously over-specced

#

PC cpu has x3-x4 power of the ps4 cpu

#

(as in, some decent gaming cpu)

carmine frigate
#

i duuno, i often load up all my cores πŸ˜›

fathom wadi
#

@zinc matrix I dont get it. You are complaining about buying tech previous to more advanced tech, and it not being as good ?

pearl elk
#

you could have a PC which is way overpowered but the game wont use it efficiently

fringe sundial
#

like monster hunter world

zinc matrix
#

@fathom wadi did you read what system i have?

fathom wadi
#

yeah Division 2 in DX12 mode

fringe sundial
#

which cant 60 fps even on a crazy powerful machine (mine)

zinc matrix
#

why people hate shovelware?

#

except code and character and weapons, all my assets will be someone's

fathom wadi
#

@zinc matrix thats irrelevant. If you want to surpass the current tech, you upgrade past that tech, you dont expect your previous tech to just catch up. You upgrade it

pearl elk
#

Im actually surprised the console ports are getting better in general but its still pretty obvious that some games are just tuned for them more than PC

solid aurora
#

so because of PC I Can't count on unreal DX12 path to be optmized yet ? -;-

fringe sundial
#

turns out Unreal DX12 on console works far better

solid aurora
#

to use the new fancy stuff like perh meshlet culling

fringe sundial
#

@solid aurora no mesh shaders yet on unreal, but they are pretty ready for them

#

i expect it to be wip or even done now

#

thats what the next gen talk was probably about, but gotta see wtf is it

solid aurora
#

no I wonder if we even see those talks lol

fringe sundial
#

rtx is already in unreal

#

VRS is too, on a Vive branch XD, for foveated rendering

zinc matrix
#

@fathom wadi but i dont know if my system is better than next gen

fathom wadi
#

its not. thats the point

#

how can it be?

fringe sundial
#

@zinc matrix next gen is 2080 RTX + Ryzen or intel 8-core + high end NVM ssd

solid aurora
#

Yeah I've seen on UDN that they want to bring VRS to main

#

but it is no priority right now

fringe sundial
#

and wel. i expect series X to perform a bit closer to a 2080 ti

#

due to console-optimizations

solid aurora
#

probabaly not worth it yet for say "normal" hardware

carmine frigate
#

this wont make ur pc any less good tho

solid aurora
#

it will

#

you guys

#

seem

#

do not remember times

#

where each generation of consoles was actually more power full than PC hardware

#

for like 6-12 months

carmine frigate
#

atari

fringe sundial
#

ps3/xbox 360

solid aurora
#

simply becauise they had more power full optimized hardware
