I see people working on games alone. Some of them look pretty cool and I want to help them out with 3D/animation. For free. Seriously. I just want to work on cool stuff with people that know what they are doing on their end.
I get that it's a huge bragging right to make a game by yourself. But I'll reach out to these people and before things even get to the portfolio or anything, they just say "no thanks I'm not looking for help"
What's the deal with that? How could people refuse without any further discussion someone offering free help? Again, it's a bragging right to do something by yourself. I get that. But it also 100% inefficient and doesn't look like they are able to handle working in even a two man team or like they have some kind of "mine mine mine all me mine" way of thinking.
I like doing things my way as much as the next guy but even I know how inefficient and completely unrealistic it is to do literally everything by myself.

Not just with making games but with everything in life, any time spent doing one thing is time spent not doing another thing. Unless you end up working with someone just completely inadequate, it's almost impossible that you wouldn't see a gain in productivity adding someone to help with even minor things.

@odd mortar I would prefer to work alone as well as others do. Not because to able to say "I did it all myself", but to be able to think "I walked this journey and completed my quest". Its hard to express a visual thing with words. It can be a challenge to accept the work of another as its potentielly different than what I have in mind (visually or code wise). "Free" help comes often at the cost of being very costly in time instead of money. And someone like you is more an exception to this than an avarage
I did take the leap of faith once, many years ago in a different kind of project, which ended up to bring way more problems and cost me so much time, I would rather avoid such situation again. Perhaps that also plays a part in the choice to prefer solo over a team. Of course, for some people I'm happy to make an exception and let them join my project. But it became a thing of "you have to earn a spot". Not out of arrogance, but out of fear of having to redo too many things. A nice way to find out how people work and what their capabilities are is a sweet game jam
