sometimes when a sound-source turns off, the speakers will output insane static

what you might need to consider, is actually attaching the thing to the COLLISION thing and NOT to the mesh
if you attach it to the mesh, then you might get no overlap
at least thats what comes to my mind alternative as problem
but.. somehow i think i am wrong and there is one still cause of the collission being attached to the mesh
in general, i never had any problem in the small amounts of time i tried to do things with that, the problem is more often that its called TOO OFTEN ;-)

But i cant even get the event, if i get the component (box collision) i can get a context sensitive custom even on begin overlap, but that now what he has in the tutorial. I don't really know what he has tbh : )

use the event that works for you, do not get crazy on the tutorials
a) it could be version specific thing that already faded out and b) some people havee somethings there already done that they dont show and then those details can be confusing
in the end its not THAT relevant how an event is triggered if its in the way that fits for you, event is event, the code behind stays the same, so even if you wanna "fix" it later, its easy to be done
so dont worry too much
at least thats what i would do ;)

You can make any sort of alpha in photoshop that you can use in painter, i'm more into substance designer myself. But there are a lot of good tutorials on youtube, Allegorithmic has it's on channel too @meager sorrel

Designer is good for tiling textures, where you don't have to consider uv's etc. Think landscape textures. Painter is for any meshes you create in your 3D software that has uv's, but in both you have full control of all your maps. You can use designer for painter materials too, UE4 has a substance plugin you can activate and assign variables in designer that you can edit in UE

but they left the bypass channel thingy open on the heat recovery element
and the motors stop for a while if the heat recovery element gets too cold
