I don't expect my game to ever make money, but I would like to someday gain enough popularity to get an animator to work with me on a project.
So much in a conversation can be told without words, I think if I had a quality animator to work with I could do a lot more with trying to tell a story with as minimal dialogue as possible.

animation has always been a hurdle for my larger ideas too, I can code alot in terms of gameplay but without the animations to match it just wont work. I do have some ideas on how to get around it but ultimately it would be nice to have a cast of characters with a range of emotions

For now I will just work with what I can do myself, so it will be more word heavy. But even without an animator I can do some basic body language and I can do a lot with how the actors are placed and move around the scene.
Blocking a scene with where the actors stand in comparison to the environment is a very powerful tool.

The ones that try to be 'cinematic' throw in the kind of camera angles you would see in movies... but it seems like they just do it at random because "well... movies have cuts so we should too if we want to be cinematic" and not because they are using it to tell the story.
There are certainly exceptions however.

I would much prefer a smaller more vibrant world than a large sparse one. The difference is obvious from say the original NFS Most Wanted game through to NFS Heat, the world became less and less populated, larger but less to do
the same happens to TV shows when they have too many lead characters to follow around. You end up with sparse bits of story they have to try to force together rather than focusing on scenes with most of the lead characters present
kinda like the difference between a TV show and a movie in a way. Having to be concise can be better, if you can fit something into 2x2hr parts to make a miniseries its probably a better idea than using filler to make it a 5x1.5hr series

Obviously as a solo dev I keep my scope super, super small. But I think even if I had a large team I would still stay as small as possible.
I find a lot of the newer movies I watch try to cram too much into 2 hours... I find the pacing to be a bit to hectic for my taste. Sometimes a story needs time to breath.

yeah I can certainly see that myself, lots of fast cuts, cameras bouncing around everywhere left and right. When you go back to just 90s the suspense and build up is far more prevalent in the movies, it was less of the instagratification
There are some modern exceptions but it used to be the other way around
Its actually one thing I liked the Bourne movies for, its not the best movies but the camera during the action is less shaky so you actually get a good view of things

My current project is built around using 21:9 cinematic widescreen for all my compositions.
I think I will use black bars by default for 16:9 screens, but have a 16:9 option in the main menu.

Overall I like cinematic widescreen best, but I think both have their own interesting elements than can be used best in certain kinds of environments and stories.
For my game set in a small village in the vast mountains the ultrawide frames the scale of the scene much better.
For the one I plan to make in the future, it is set in one single house where the furthers you can go is outside in the courtyard. Both the setting and the plot make you feel a bit trapped in the small space, and I think 4:3 really helps push that.
For that game I plan to have it locked to 4:3 regardless of your monitor. I'm thinking about having it slowly open up into a wider aspect ration as you get more clues and understand the situation better.
I was also thinking about having the characters or items in the house slowly regain color as you learn more about them. Starting out super desaturated but eventually getting to about a 50% saturation level. That would be the max..

dvorak is supposed to place the letters and combinations used most often so they have the least amount of finger movement. I saw faster typing speeds when I used it, but I still didn't like it since I had to switch back and forth. I like the kinesis advantage keyboards. Once you setup some macros on it , it's pretty fast to get things done.

Well, the Editor Apply Spline node doesn't seem to work if you have the new landscape layers enabled. I would just use the new Landmass stuff since it's more flexible, but that doesn't work with tiled landscapes yet. Heck, man

@fluid bloom in my case then: there was no common area heating, the cleaners did a 5 euro job (only swoop mever mob or proper clearning, dust balls and webs everywhere), garbage is done by the city themself, not the building owner, the maintrnance of the outside building was less than 5k per 5 years as they only did the bare minimum to avoid law suits
Those housemilkers are the worst, never go for an appartment in the netherlands :E

NavWalking is not supported client side, but if clientside has a navmesh, it sent the ai into Falling mode for a frame, then back out to Navwalking

Two new dooms seem more like a sequel to brutal doom mod, Idk. When you go up that stairway and can see out the window slime pit and all that in second level of doom, with all the flashing lights and buttons, they kind of missed that aspect of it.

I liked Doom 2016 a lot, but Doom Eternal doesn't really excite me as much for some reason.. Too over the top maybe.. Haven't figured it out yet
