Yesterday I updated my drivers to Game Ready 580.88, after that any time I launch a steam game within 10 minutes or so both of my monitors will blackout and say No Signal, I can still hear all audio from discord and some audio from the game that was open at the time but it seems like the mouse/keyboard are not recognized either (e.g. I can spam press keys and I'll eventually hear the Windows ding sound but nothing will fix the black screen). The only way to get out of that is to power cycle the PC.

I tried rolling back to the previous driver version and the issue now persists. I've tried Game Ready and Studio Drivers going back to December 2024 using DDU to do clean installs and it will still blackout after a few minutes in game.

I have a linux drive on this machine and the issue occurs there too (with the added headache that powercycling leads Ubuntu to no longer recognize the GPU and the only fix is to boot an older kernel version then purge and reinstall the nvidia drivers and reboot)

Here are my specs:

GPU: RTX 3090Ti 24GB VRAM, no overclock

CPU: Intel i9-12900KS, no overclock

Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z-690A GAMING WIFI D4, latest BIOS verions 4301

RAM: G Skill 64GB (2 x 32GB) DDR 2666MHz, no overclock, XMP disabled

PSU: EVGA Supernova 1000 P2 80+ Platinum, 1000W

Operating System & Version: Windows 11 24H2 & Ubuntu 24.04 clean installs for both

GPU Drivers: Windows: Game Ready 566.36 (DDU/clean install) Ubuntu: 570.169 (DKMS version, clean install)

I don't have a spare PC or GPU to swap in/out at the moment but with the issue occuring across both OSs and after rolling back to older driver versions what is the likelihood that my GPU is sadly cooked and will need to be replaced (warranty expired 2 months ago ofc lol)

Last addition: there was a very brief period last night where the issue was resolved and was just after I updated the BIOS to the newest version however when I came back to my PC an hour or so later the black screen happened on wake-up and after the subsequent power cycle the issue returned

Update:

OCCT tests of 3D Adaptive on variable rate, steady (extreme) load, and switching between low/high rate all ran for 10-15 mins without error or blackout.
The same goes for VRAM, Power, and CPU

When attempting a combined test of CPU+RAM, 3D Adaptive and VRAM the blackout happened again but no logs or anything showed up on OCCT after power cycling

Running benchmarks/tests with FurMark and Unigine Superposition both completed without crashing and the performance was about as I expected and issue seems to be gone (for Linux) with no changes 🤔
